It's been an absolute joy working with Bill and Sue on replacing a few retaining walls and cracked concrete on my property. They are honest, open, communicative, and work like crazy to get the job done! Bill does really high quality work - he always explains in detail how he's tackling the job and sends a ton of photos so you can see what he and his team are doing at every step. One of my retaining walls (see photos) is in a really precarious location on a public sidewalk next to a busy street, but Bill and his team were able to handle it like true professionals. He estimated the work would take a few weeks, but after assessing the situation he decided that they needed to get the sidewalk cleared as quickly as possible so that people could walk by, so he brought in reinforcements and finished this wall in three days. Three days!!! No exaggeration - the "before" photo was taken on a Thursday, and the "after" photo was taken on Saturday! Update: the paint on our driveway chipped about a year and a half after we got this done and the whole thing looks pretty bad. I wish I would have done a clear sealing of our concrete. I hired best in concrete services in August 2023 through Samisoni Havili according to him a family business he runs with his family member. I paid 25k for concrete and paths around my home as well as steps to the entry ways. Job was not received finished and there is a lot of error in the work. Poor work ethic and unreliable people. I did not have them do a job. Some reviews said they do significant add-on cost after starting. The estimator arrived in a uniform for another business which made me wonder if they have to moonlight or if this job is the moonlight. The estimate was done very hastily with few measurements being taken and a number was written on paper; no details, no work description. This made me suspicious about the risk of add-on costs. Wow- what else can I say about Best in Concrete except they are AWESOME! We added 22sq ft to our kitchen which needed a foundation. We had an architect draw up the plans, which we found to be incomplete. Emili worked with the (difficult) architect to fill in the details, and get the wall build on schedule. If an earthquake were to hit Portland, I'm sure this new foundation would be the only thing left standing! LOL. Emili was immediately prompt to our request for a quote and exceptionally friendly and courteous upon the arrival. He was very knowledgeable and sent photos of color options and design options the same day. The quote came right away and was reasonable. Although, based on the our encounter with him and how quickly he communicated, we were so impressed we wanted to hire him simply based on that. They were able to start the project almost immediately. The speed at which they completed the project was impressive and no corners were cut in the process. The crew was professional, respectful, friendly, and efficient. We were updated at every part of the project and were in the loop the entire time. He knew we were unsure of the color, relying on photos where the colors change with the light was tricky. But he was very patient with us and sent lots of additional images to evaluate. In the end he was able to help us choose our colors based on the description of what we wanted and the results are perfect. SHADY, ILLEGAL company - they cashed our check, tore up our yard then disappeared. Our yard is in shambles including our fence line destroyed and our animals area completely displaced. The owner Continuously pretended they did not speak English until we threatened a lawsuit a month in to the delay, then all of a sudden he spoke and understood English perfect well - interesting how that came about. The guy calls himself "David" but his real name is Tevita. His entire family works this illegal business so when you can them they pretend they don't speak English and hang up on you. He asked us to pay the project all upfront and in cash. We refused. When we asked what their contractors license was they refused to provide. They broke our fence line and never fixed it, even tried to get more money out of us stating "we need more money for the supplies to put down cement" then claimed he spent our thousands of dollars we provided on one day of work provided by his workers. He on the other hand sits in the car with his wife on-site and never helps in the work. We later found out these are also illegal workers working under the table. We ended up reporting their illegal company to the state, better business bureau and labor business bureau, an investigation is currently active and we have also filed a lawsuit to recoup the money we lost. our home is still destroyed and the project was never finished. When I asked "where in portland did he live" he responded "Oregon" so I said "Oregon city?" He said "I live Oregon" if that gives you any idea of who you're dealing with. They were a cheap quote and for a good reason, they're not only unethical they are illegal. We looked them up on the state website, they don't even have a business or contractors license nor do they carry General contracting insurance. Our children can't enjoy our yard and now we have to pay double for another company to fix everything they did as we found out they skipped steps and did the demolition incorrectly/ We had to hire another company to fix everything they tore up. Loni came by my home last night around 8pm and asked that I update this review so here goes. Within about 24 hours of my original review, Loni called and said he would come out and fix the concrete wall. He did fix one of the two walls and it looks better (see photo). Repairing concrete never looks as good as it would done right the first time, but I appreciate that they came out and tried their best. This repair was to the smaller retaining wall. Okay, we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this company. We had work done by them a few years back and loved that they were not only on time with the schedule that they told us, but EARLY!?! Is that even possible? I've never had such a great experience with contracted work. Their price and communication is great too! Bill sent us documentation about what our project would include and quotes via text as we talked through the details. A few years ago we had them pour two pads of concrete, one for a hot tub and one for a barbecue. We also had them do a tiny bit of sidewalk repair in that project. They took out tree roots and made sure that the sidewalk would hold up for years to come. Well, guess what! Not only has the sidewalk held up for a few years so far, it also inspired us to do more work on some of the cracks. We were so excited to see Bill come back out and give us a quote on the weekend. Then not 3 days later he was back out here with his team to begin the prep work They finished all of the prep work in one day! (my mind was blown!) And they had the final day of work happen right when they said it would happen, just two days later. Pretty disappointed in my experience given the positive ratings. I received a prompt response to my request for a quote, and was surprised at the $75 fee for a quote given that I have had other contractors give me a quote for free, but i paid the fee because of the good reviews on here. My project is large, about 200 ft of new sidewalk, and the estimator said it would take time to research permit requirements, etc. understandable, however - it took almost 2 weeks to get a number as a quote, and even then, the number was only verbal and he gave me a range with $10,000 between the lower and upper numbers. Even then, the lower number was 33% higher than a free quote that I've received since that, in writing. I'm glad I've pursued multiple quotes, and perhaps my job was just too big for this company. If I had known that before, I would not have spent $75 for an estimate. read more

My old driveway way overdue to be replaced, he actually showed up when he said he would and the work was completed on schedule. I was a little concerned as I was going out of town while the job was talking place. I had a texted photo every step of the way. First, ripped the old concrete out in a matter of minutes. This guy was like a large-scale surgeon -- breaking up old concrete, yanking out grass and rocks with a 6 man crew, then deftly separating everything Then they got to work by prepping the ground, setting up the forms, and finishing the poured concrete expertly, even killed some bees that were coming out of a crawl space near the foundation of the driveway. Bill's work is outstanding, he went beyond the scope of work add some extra under surprises that exceeded my expectations. Best in Concrete was amazing! They removed old, improperly poured concrete completed by the prior homeowner in our side yard. The project was tricky because the old concrete was right on top of water pipes, and right next to our neighbor's and our houses' foundations. It had to be hand removed with specialized tools. Bill did a beautiful job with the removal. I thought it would take all day to remove the concrete, but the job was over in only 3 hours. My pups are excited to have a new, functional yard that is ready to plant. I cannot thank Bill, Sue, and the Best in Concrete team enough for fixing this old eyesore at our house. read more
