Went to a UNR basketball game for the first time as part of a birthday celebration. Seemed pretty easy finding free parking at the Wayland parking structure. Was worried about their clear bag policy, making sure it was the right size and what to not bring but when we walked through it was seamless. They just glanced at the bags quickly and scanned tickets right after, no metal detectors or extensive security checks. Once in the arena, it was easy to figure out what area we were seated at. Nice and clean seating and the game wasn't crowded. We were in the upper section and it was still a great view of the court. I didn't go to the concession but friends who did were quickly back to seats so probably not a ton of lines. Exiting the game was quick after waiting for the crowd to clear. The only hold up, which is typical for events, was exiting the parking structure. But they did have security directing traffic to make things easier. Fun times getting to watch a game with friends and sitting nearby the UNR band. read more

We have been lucky to have been in attendance for so many UNR basketball games here, I have lost count. We always have a good time! And we have our fabulous neighbors to thank for letting us use their season tickets when they can't use them. But the Lawlor Events Center has seen better days and could really use a facelift. Last night was a little unsettling as there were 3 or 4 bats flying around throughout the whole game, swooping down to the court floor. Some players had to brush them aside as they tried to play! I wondered how the bats got inside and so I did a little digging around online. It turns out that this has happened in the past here! Yikes! We all know bats are a protected species so I hope the Lawlor Events Center looks into how they are getting in and do something about it. And maybe spruce up other aspects of the center while they're at it! read more

A wonderful Event Center. I have been here for graduations, games, concerts, and comedians. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. Of course, there are closer seats which normally cost more. There is an abundance of restrooms and food and drink choices. Many may not be aware that there are banquet rooms above the stage floor and seating area. The venue is huge and also has catering ability for staff. I have attended weddings here years ago. It's been a bizillion years since I was a college student. Boy... my state college didn't have an event center as nice as University of Nevada Reno (UNR). Come to think of it, we didn't even have an arena. We had a gymnasium. Oh well. But what an awesome arena for a college campus. Color me impressed. I digress, but back to the Lawlor Event Center. It is a 11,500 seat multipurpose arena. It was built in 1983 and named for Jake Lawlor, a former UNR basketball coach. The arena is home to the UNR Wolfpack basketball team. The men's team had a pretty wild ride the past few seasons. Go Wolfpack! Unfortunately I never got to a basketball game. A college graduation brought me here. Due to unanticipated inclement weather, UNR staff scrambled to arrange an indoor graduation ceremony in the Lawlor. The sound system was great. And get this.... the concession stands were open. Of course, the concession had typical higher end arena pricing. Ouch. But the pretzels were good. Crisp exterior with sprinkled rock salt and fluffy moist interior. Served warm. Popcorn was not bad tasting. Nachos were typical chips served with melted cheese. No complaints. Bottled water was chilled. Things to note for folks with mobility issues or dragging about young kids/toddlers. In the arena, the height of the interior steps, near the seats, were not all even and several steps had steep drops. From the front arena doors (off Virginia Street) facing the fitness center, there is a whole heck of a lot of stairs to get to the entry doors. If stairs aren't your deal, keep walking around the arena to get to the easy walking ramp. read more

Lawlor Events center is Reno's biggest arena mostly used for Athletic events and graduations...at least that's what I usually go for. Since the seating capacity is on the lower end of a traditional arena, the view from the "nose bleed" seats are not bad. I've seen a couple concerts and many basketball games here and the seats were really good. For what ever reason the Reno area doesn't see many concerts at this venue but it would be great to see more well-known artists with a decent view. read more

Got to go here for the first time to watch the University of Nevada vs University of New Mexico. The venue is small but has a cozy feel to it. When you approach, each entrance has a ticket window, not a row of ticket windows like other places. When you enter, the walkway before you enter is a lot more narrow than others I have been in and you almost feel like it is more like a hallway. We seated in section 1 and I think it's on the south side? Even though we were seated in the upper section, the view was great and we could see all the action of the game. The thing I noticed was that there were no ushers in the stands and we had ask someone who was affiliated with the basketball program if they could help us find our seats. The biggest disappointment was the sound system. It sounded like the announcer was turned away from us and the people seated opposite from us could hear loud and clear. Most of what was announced I had to either strain to hear or missed it. I'm sure I will be back but now I know what to expect. The big plus to the night was the Wolfpack won 97-94 in double overtime! read more

I went here for a UNR basketball game on New Years Day. Schools not in session so the campus was mostly dead aside from all the folks looking for parking for the game. Never being here before, I was waved into the parking garage and happily pulled in. A grumpy old man asked if I had a pass, in which I replied no. Didn't know I needed one, I just assumed it would be pay as you park. Nope! I asked him where I could park and he shrugged and pointed to the exit where I had to leave. I pulled out of the garage into an adjoining lot and there were two other guys with reflective vests so I asked where I could park. Well, right there in this empty lot. For free. Perfect. I had an extra 2 min walk from the garage and none of the extra hassle getting back out after the game! Once at the stadium, which was a quick 5 min walk from the car, we got in through the ticket lines pretty quick. The seats were pretty easy to find and get to. The leg room was sufficient, even for my 6'2" son. We were Center court nosebleed section but I thought the view was still good. The only thing you miss out on from there (section 4 row 39) was when the guys would throw t-shirts into the audience. The game itself was pretty fun to watch, it went quick, they do a lot of little activities during the half time and time outs to keep you entertained. I didn't get up at half time but after the game, there were some decent lines for the bathrooms. Once the game was done, it was fairly easy to get back to the car. We walked through the parking garage which was lined with cars trying to exit. Glad I wasn't stuck in there. It still took us 10 min or so to get out of the parking lot. read more

Great venue for basketball. Nice selection of food. I recommend the nachos. They are a meal in and of themselves and shareable fit two. They are also customizable with chicken or beef, beans, jalapeño peppers, cheese (quest n shredded), sour cream, olives, and salsa. Yummy! I tried the "healthy" Renown booth for their pulled pork wrap today because I saw their ad on TV. A disappointment. Pork was dry and the condiment on it tasted like antiseptic. Also bought my nephew a kid bag with a turkey n cheese wrap, applesauce, juice, and granola bar. The lunch bag was very cute and we will reuse it. He ate the applesauce and granola bar but opted for nachos n popcorn! read more

The low score is for the extremely poor marketing here. We came for a graduation and no where does it mention the clear bag/small bag policy. Not on the tickets and not when you are waiting in the very long line to get in. Once we got to the front, I saw ALOT of people being turned back. What a waste and so easy for Lawlor to fix. Just terrible customer service due to a complete lack of communication and necessary. read more

Go Pack! Great venue for Wolfpack basketball games. Yah building is a little old and not everything is in perfect shape but it gets the job done for the time being. The security staff is always pleasant to deal with and the concessions while over-priced like everywhere are tasty! read more

This is a really cool, intimate setting with virtually no viewing obstructions. It is basically circular with good views from all over. It was a bummer that the bottled water was all served at room temperature especially when you are at a venue where they charge a premium for bottled water. $4 for 20oz of warm bottled water seems excessive. Good thing it was Aquafina, that is all my wife will drink. Good thing they also have some microbrews although $9 for one would likely buy a 6 pack anywhere else. The spacing of the steps going up at the start of the upper level are not consistent. Based on experience that may not comply with OSHA. The stadium itself could definitely use some updating and safety modifications. The game was fun and the wolf pack did a great job against San Diego state. The university police also do a great job before and after the game directing traffic and pedestrians. Overall a good experience and lots of fun! read more

I've attended numerous events at Lawlor Events Center throughout the years. Everything from playing in the orchestra for high school graduations, my own high school graduation, basketball games, and even concerts. The building itself is beautiful, but the inside is somewhat dated. This review is for the venue while it was being utilized for a Nevada Men's Basketball game. I am extremely impressed with the brand new court and brand new video screens. It was so great to see the place looking so fresh and high tech. The speakers inside Lawlor seemed to be better than the previous season as well. A lot of the upgrades have to do with having a great coach making progress with the team! I hope the team continues growing, because there are still some improvements that need to be made. The restrooms are not gross by any means, but a nice facelift would be pleasant! Maybe some Dyson hand dryers!! And the concessions could team up with some local breweries/restaurants and offer more options. The concessions are way too basic, especially if this team keeps getting better! Which they will. Ha! Go Pack! read more

I went to the Zac Brown Band Concert last night at this event center. The sound quality in this place was good, they had the stage set up on one end with projectors and lights. Parking was good. I arrived a half an hour early and got a spot in the parking garage. People who arrived late had to park up and far away. Parking was also free which was a good bonus. Food and Drink: The beers were 7.50 and mix drinks were 9 bucks each. This place was a little on the steep side for drinks, I would recommend pre-parting somewhere else for cheaper. The only downside to this place was it was cold inside of the concert. It was 60 degrees outside and it was probably about 50 degrees inside of the event center, probably the coldest concert I have ever been to. They had the AC cranking and everyone seemed to be a little bit chilled. read more

You feel the energy and makes for a great experience when you are at the game! Snacks are good, a bit pricey, but good. I like the different vendors they now have besides the concession stands. The arena needs modernizing but the bones are solid. Plans to remodel the seating and update the concourse fell through with the recession but it's still a great place to watch a basketball game. The acoustics for basketball are great, for concerts, not so much. As far as on-campus arena's go though, Lawlor is a nice place to watch a game. read more

I was there with my husband for recent Tiesto show. It felt like it was arranged at the last minute. 1. I came and bought tickets in person and wasn't informed about two different types of tickets and zones for public. I would never thought that events center would have such a joke as arena tickets and bowl tickets. In arena, you are hanging out between chairs or listening to the DJ sitting. Bowl is a separate area with security check points, great sound and visual effects. So, cashier assumed that I don't mind sitting and listening to a crappy sound and visuals, and didn't provide me with choices. 2. When we came to see the show it was a line of drunk, under influence, almost naked young people. It felt unreal. The fact that we are from DC area with different club rules for face control, substance control, and dress code made its difference. 3. When we came through the check point and went inside, we asked security person where we can leave our coats. The answered shocked us. There was no place for coats. It was 15 degrees outside, remote parking lot, long waiting line and expectancy from center employees that we either have to carry our jackets around or come without them. It explained all drunk, under influence and almost naked people in the center. 4. After that, we tried to get inside of the arena and we've been told, that tickets we bought aren't for bowl with the normal dance floor, but for the arena - a dance floor among chairs and steps. It was something. 5. The first thing we've noticed, when we found our sits, was a smoke. A lot of people were smoking, because Events Center didn't care about security coverage for arena part. There were nobody to to stop it. People were smoking pot as well. I have an allergy and shortly after the show started we had to leave, because the venue had poor ventilation. So, we didn't get to see much of the show, the sound was terrible, because we sited above it, we didn't get to see any effects for the same reason, we had to hold our jackets for the whole time, because checking room wasn't offered, and we had to leave earlier, because event personal didn't care about people who might have problem with smoking. read more

Good venue for sports, but for concerts sound quality is lacking.

I'm not sure if this is a knock on the university or the facility or both but.....lower the ticket prices to the basketball games and maybe there would be some fans in the crowd. It's so pathetic to see the stadium in clips on the news empty....I'm guessing that's not a big selling point for prospects! $40 for myself, my wife, and our 2 year old in the nose bleeds, at least the beers are cheap......HA!!!! read more

While the building and center itself look nice the staff is absolutely horrible. I've never dealt with a group of people who were all collectively rude to their guest but it's baffling in a place where there should be a high level of customer service. I would never come here for another event based on that alone. read more
