It was a very pleasant experience at this eye clinic. I wanted to get my eyes checked since I do it atleast once a year. I looked them online on my insurance's website. They were able to schedule an appointment as per my schedule. The staff was very helpful and attentive. They were super friendly amd made me comfortable in the clinic. My doctor was Lawrence S conducted my eye exam. He explained me everything im detail and performed the eye check exam properly. He gave me some extra tips on how to take care of the eyes. I also wanted to get a new pair of glasses. I felt they don't much variety pertaining to different frames and also they were very expensive. I know it's Manhattan but still they were a tad expensive when it came to glasses. So i ended up getting glasses from a different place. read more

Surprised by the low rating for Forgacs. I'm a pretty anal chooser of my medical services, and Forgacs is one of the best optometrists I have had. He gets my scripts right for glasses, when others may have screwed it up. He is EXTREMELY thorough. I tried to get contacts from him and he spent hours with me to get it right. He is old school thorough. I had my daughters eyes checked by him and my wife goes here as well. I've not had issues with late appointments or waiting. He does give holistic advice (eat more fish/drink more water as my eyes are a little dry) which is a positive, not a negative. Depends what you want I guess.. read more

THIS IS DEFINITELY AN EXPERIENCE! I came in for an annual check-up(my first) visit mid-October. I received a bill that has been ruled diagnostic exams and not part of preventative in November. I call the office to offer insight and the office tells me that the billing associate and the doctor will look into that. My insurance is still telling me to pay the $400+ to this doctor when my blue Cross Blue Shield covers my annual eye exam. After charging my insurance, I am still being billed for extra exams. If this is my first visit, how are you telling me that this visit is a diagnostic visit and not a preventative/annual check-up? I have not heard back from them as they have claimed. I submit a complaint to Blue Cross Blue Shield about this and the office contends that it had billed correctly for diagnostic exams and made no errors with the billing codes. I am not coming back here as this is absolutely absurd that I have to pay $400 more on exams that they claimed were done when I was in for an annual and nothing extra was said to me about extras during that visit. Not to buy mention, the doctor gave me a packet on websites with links to buy some fish supplements. read more

Dr. Forgacs is the best eye doctor I've ever had and I've been wearing glasses and contacts for almost 30 years. I have sent several coworkers his way and they are also recurring patients. STAY AWAY!!! Not only is his staff extremely rude but they are incompetent and so apathetic about offering good customer service. Additionally, Dr. Forgacs himself is so outdated in his methods, has a very displeasing demeaner, and charges exorbitantly for things that should not be charged! I was really offended by my whole interaction with him and his office, and after two appointments, I immediately switched to a MUCH better optometrist who makes me feel like a valuable patient (Dr. Clinton Ho - he's wonderful!). I have no idea how Dr. Forgacs is still in business with this appalling type of service, but I will definitely do all I can to dissuade others to make the same mistake of going to him as I did. It's sad that there are such bad doctors/doctors offices here in New York... P.S. I tried to get my files transferred to my new optometrist and 1) they charged for each page transferred (wtf), 2) staff was really rude as usual. I called them out on it and instead of apologizing, they just got even more defiant, 3) Dr. Forgacs had to "review" my file before he sent it to my new optometrist (I asked what the purpose of this was, and they could not give me a straight answer. Let's just say I'm very suspicious of the accuracy of what will be transferred to my new optometrist), 4) the staff completely disregarded the time-sensitive nature of this and in fact blatantly said that they would not try to do anything to make sure that I got the files transferred by the end of the day!! I'm sitting in the office as I write this, waiting for Dr. Forgacs. I've been here for over 90 minutes and have spent the majority of that time waiting. Last time I was here, Dr. Forgacs gave me unsolicited and odd advice that had nothing to do with my eyes. Thanks, Dr, but I am a healthy adult and already know that it's good to eat well, drink water, and exercise. Very condescending and patronizing, and gave me a prescription for transition lenses even though I told him I didn't want them. I will not be returning! read more

I have seen Dr. Forgacs for around 30 years. I would not entrust my eye care to anyone else. He is thorough and well informed. What I especially like is his holistic approach to eye health and its connection to the general health of the heart and blood vessels. When I started seeing him I was in my 30s, transitioning from gas permeable contacts to toric soft contacts. Subsequently, I had Lasik, and Dr. Forgacs was part of that care team. Eventually, I will have cataract surgery when needed, again with Dr. Forgacs as part of the team. My late father was an optometrist, and I'm fussy about docs, so a recommendation from me is pretty serious. Yes, there is sometimes a long wait, and sometimes his staff is cranky -- but the quality care is well worth it. read more

I have been to lots of eye doctors and I did not know what I was missing until I received Dr. Forgacs' attention and prescriptions. He prescribed contacts that were right for me and my headaches and eye strain stopped after years of using the incorrectly prescribed lenses. He also recommended Maxivision Whole Body formula vitamins, etc and those work great. He takes a holistic approach and recommends a healthy diet, the 20/20/20 eye rule for computer use, and daily cardio exercise for my vision health. He explained aspects of eye care in a way that no one else ever has. It's clear that he has passion for what he does and there's no substitute for that. I'm really glad I found him. Don't judge the services by the look of the office; choose a qualified doctor over "bells and whisles." I have to agree that some of the front desk attendants should be replaced and that's unfortunate, but not all of them are unprofessional. I can't recommend going on a regular lunch break because the wait can be long, but it is well worth the wait for me to see him. I went to another doctor and she even recommended that I go back to Dr. Forgacs citing his credentials and stating that he was "super, super qualified," a former presidency of the American Academy of Optometry, and that he's received numerous commendations in the field of glaucoma therapy. I have to say that I'm not sure why everyone else's reviews are so horrible but I had an awesome experience with Dr. Forgacs. I went in with irritated eyes and after tests were done by machines I had never seen before I found out I had infections on both corneas. He was very knowledgeable about how it probably happened, the process to cure it, and how to get me into contacts again. The office isn't state of the art but you see the amount of recognitions and advancements he has made in his career on the walls. When it comes to your eyes and the gift of being able to see I don't believe any test is unnecessary. Maybe I'm biased because I have amazing insurance and it's covered but I found his tactics successful and pleasant. He explained everything he was doing and I don't believe I would have received the treatment elsewhere. I have been to optometrists that probably would have sent me home with allergy drops. I do have to say that I was annoyed my first visit because I waited in one of the rooms for almost an hour but after my visit was over I found it worth the wait. I highly suggest him as a doctor/optometrist and sorry to hear that anyone else had an unpleasurable visit. read more

I was very offended with my experience. Not only did he give me the wrong contacts prescription, but when I came back for him 2 weeks later to retest me he wanted to charge me again! Then when i told the receptionist that I am not paying again for him to get my prescription correct, thats what I paid for the first time, she told me then to just go back to my old prescription from last year because he refused to see me unless he charges for another visit. What a waste of time and money. I had huge deductible on my insurance so it was all out of pocket. Definitaly not a way to treat your patients, especially with something as important as your vision. Hands down the best eye doctor (maybe any doctor) I have ever been to. This was my husbands first time ever going to an eye doctor! And needless to say, I am so glad I brought him to Dr.Forgacs. He spent about 2 hours on us total. Very thorough. Ran all the tests. Brought us back into the room after each test to talk about it. Gave us not just eye advice, but also how to maintain a better lifestyle. In the beginning, we had to wait a bit before being seen because someone called off sick; BUT after we were treated so well, we didn't even care that that happened. He is older and he knows his stuff. Especially after seeing all his certificates on contact lenses, I was reassured (I wear contacts). And he had me try on some different contacts that now are the ones I am definitely switching to. For years, I've tried other ones and they got blurry and dry. And he loved talking about his horse riding days, this made him appear more down to earth and friendly. The assistant and secretary were super nice too. The optometrist was good as well; she did not try to force us to get the more costly glasses. She encouraged more affordable ones. All in all, we highly recommend this place. read more

Dr. Forgacs was professional, pleasant and timely. Fortunately I did not have a problem waiting and my appointment was during my lunch hour. I called fours the same day to reschedule my appointment and was told I would be charged $50 fee....just to reschedule because I could not get away from work during my lunch hour that day due to an emergency. I said you will lose me as a patient if you do that, and the receptionist said OK. Meawhile, I get emails year round asking me to come for my eye exam. Really bad. My annual eye exam took 3 hours and the place wasn't even busy. They kept me waiting in this tiny eye exam room for at least 30-40 minutes at a time. The machinery was antiquated and the woman who does the eye glass fitting dissed my current glasses and made assumptions on the new lenses I wanted. She had a crappy attitude. As for the Doc, he didn't even say bye to me. He just looked right at me as we were passing on my way out and didn't say a word. That's pretty rude. Worst place. I went here 2 and a half years ago for a routine exam and after all this time they are still trying to bill me for all these eye tests etc etc that NEVER HAPPENED. I have gone to see Dr. Lawrence Forgacs for about six years now. He is excellent. He is extremely thorough. I have read some reviews which indicate he is expensive, well, his eye exam is about two to three hours long on several high tech machines. My eyes are worth it. In reality cheap eye exams can be very costly in the long run, especially to the elderly. Dr. Forgacs checks for changes in eye vision, glaucoma, cataracts, indications of loose retina, cornea disease, dry eyes and much more. Simply speaking, Dr. Lawrence Forgacs is great and worth every penny. His staff works hard and they are very nice and accommodating. Sweet staff and brilliant doctor. If you want thorough and comprehensive eye care this is where you go. Prepare to spend some time there. This is not a quick in out eye exam buy glasses set up. This is a good old fashioned Eye Doctor's Office where everything is explained. He's also going back and forth with other patience. Went to Dr. Forgacs for an annual eye exam and was charged over $200 for a medical eye exam, which I did not request. During my appointment I remarked to the staff how many tests they were running and asked if they were necessary. While the staff was polite and the exams seemed through, I was charged for services I did not request. To make matters worse, when I called the office to ask for an explanation upon receiving their bill in the mail, Dr. Forgacs would not take my call. Beware of what they charge you. Incompetent/rude staff will greet you and ask YOU to call your own insurance company to confirm your plan. I've never seen such lazy staff that are not willing to be resourceful and look up on their own. And another thing... This is the worst office team that I have ever encountered in my years of going to the doctors. From the moment of the initial phone call to set up the appointment I should have ran, so I guess that is my fault. But could it really be that bad. Yes. Worse. Their blatant disregard for the CUSTOMER and rude tone throughout my engagements with them is foretelling Just a simple hello, to have a nice day, to a thank you..... would have been generous, but alas, nothing. Bitter, rude, and unprofessional. You can get better service at the DMV then here (sorry DMV, you deserve a better comparison). Front desk - useless and lazy. Billing: to confrontational and not helpful at all (let alone their billing doesn't match what they send to insurance company and that doesn't match their doctor records.....seems odd doesn't it when things don't match..... Interesting to that the Front Office Team does not even get along. Between the little cat fights and the rolling of the eyes at each other, they really need to get some new glasses and take a look at each other. The front desk and customer service can make or break an office. In this case, they are destroying their business. Note to Team: the customers can see and hear you as they wait and wait and wait Some silver linings: There was the technician (a women) who completed the tests. She is the best asset in this office. Her professionalism, ability to inform you of the tests and answer questions made the long appointment better. Dr. Forgacs: very knowledgeable and detailed on the health of the eyes. Not a strong interaction with me and more focused at hurrying through, but seemed good and useful. Recommendation is that at the end of the tests and prescription, it might be good to show a before/after of eye change to make sure it's alright.. Additionally, my prescription was wrong (great catch by the place I got my glasses through - didn't get them here because the technician was not in that day and don't think I could have taken anymore attitude issues with the office). Took 3 phone call and a 5 day wait for a letter in the mail to get the right prescription. Office was not good at answering voicemail to correct the prescription and & when I did get a hold of them WOW, more attitude and questioning of how I knew it was wrong (clue: if I go to the doctor I give him my old and new prescription, they can generally tell you and he showed me on test glasses that things were wrong). Thanks for the attitude Office Team but yup, it was wrong. Lastly, the systems are old. Everything is by mail or fax. Alas, time in invest in technologies for record keeping. Overall, I recommend that you do not go here. They need a revamp of the Office Team and Service levels are subpar. Go somewhere else. read more

Wait time is really long. I would budget 1-3 hours for total appointment time. The exam is very thorough and Dr. Forgacs is very nice, but the downtime between every test is just too long. I also feel pressured at the checkout counter to purchase the vitamins and eye drops that the doctor recommends and awkwardly have to say no. read more

Honestly this place is a sham- avoid at all costs. I went here to get glasses- the eye exam took 2.5 hrs with a loooot of waiting around, the glasses took 10 days to be ready (we're talking very low prescription with frames chosen in house) and they said it was because I had an eyecare plan (?!), when handed to me the "new" glasses I had paid for were dirty and had marks on the lens which I needed to point out, now it has only been 3 days and I just realized the frames are broken which is why they keep sliding down my face. I would have given Dr. Forgacs 5 stars given his in-depth knowledge and bedside manner. Unfortunately the wait is always long. I actually called ahead for my most recent visit to see if they were running on schedule which they said they were only to still wait 45min. That being said, I will continue to see Dr. Forgacs as I found him to be the most knowledgeable optometrist I've ever seen. I have had various eye problems over the years with allergies, contacts, and dry eyes, so I have seen quite a few eye doctors. Dr. Forgacs cares about his patients and spends time with you to discuss everything and answer any questions you may have. Other eye clinics I've been to you may see the actual doctor for 5min before he speeds off into another room. As far as other reviewers saying their equipment to be outdated, I found that to be untrue. The equipment all looked modern and functioned properly. The actual office may not be that modern looking, but does that really matter? I actually found it interesting to look at all the pics of famous people on the wall that he has treated. Even though the wait is highly annoying, so far I think he's still worth the wait. read more
