So glad we found this spot because this was one of the best hookah spots my friends and I tried after so long! The ambience was super chill and the staff and owners were all friendly and welcoming. This has been my go-to hookah& chill spot for years. Layaly is a local cafe that is homey and simple. It's not lively or a party scene if that's what you're looking for in a night out. There's lots of seating from the front to their back garden. Simplistic design and often played Arabic music sets the hookah mood. The menu has food and non-alcoholic drinks. I swoon over the strawberry milkshake every time (Diabetics, please be aware of your sugar intake with milkshakes though!). Plenty of hookah flavors and options at average costs (many other places charge $40+ a pipe). Staff members are regular folks. Not attentive but not distracted. The service here is phenomenal... Was greeted at the door with mask and hand sanitizer. We got to choose our seats either inside outside or the back. I was even able to select the music is like to listen to. I first ordered mango ginger smoothie which was soooo tasty I'd definitely come back for this alone. Came here on a late Saturday afternoon as a group of 10. It was pretty quiet inside and we were kindly seated right away. Our waitress initially came over to take our drink orders and if anyone was going to order hookahs. We ordered 4 lemon/mint fumari hookahs for the table, 2 frappachinos blended coffee drinks as well as a few pots of black tea with mint. The hookahs came out first. We were given plastic hoses with I prefer in terms of cleanliness. The hookah was nice and strong and had a great lemon taste. The frappachinos looked delicious as they were topped with fresh whipped cream. Service was great, one of my favorite things about this place was there was no rush. Our waitress was super accommodating to us, and let us enjoy a few hours and even refilled our tea pots 2 times! Will come back again for a hookah session or even to try their lunch menu! I came here with some friends and we tried the Blue Mist and Pirates Cove flavors. The Blue Mist had a fruit punch taste to it, while the Pirates Cove had a more smokey, cinnamon taste to it. It is only $8 to $10 for a hookah - much cheaper than in Manhattan. And the hookah here lasts for a very long time. The food here was also very good. I had a mixed platter with lamb chops, sausage, and chicken kebab. All three of these were fresh, moist and tasty. The best of the three were the lamb chops, which were very juicy and had a nice charred grill flavor to them. Ordered the mango with pineapple fruit top and a ice hose. quality hookah and they constantly go around changing your coals. In case you're not aware the don't serve ALCOHOL so if you want drinks stop at a bar before you come here. They had the Knicks game on and you can play games like cards and Uno at your table, overall a cool experience. We also had no desire to pay $5 for a cup of coffee. We only did hookah here. We ended up doing two flavors but both were bland. The blue mist was so bad that it burnt our throats and we left early because of it, despite having quite a bit left. The hookah game here is weak. I've had much smoother, better hookah experiences elsewhere. Also, the huge TVs really do not make this place "chill" because try sitting next to a bright TV for a couple hours. Not pleasant. This unseeming place is located on Broadway, far enough away from the crazy hookah lounges located on Steinway. Although they sell hookah and it is the focus of their restaurant they have an extensive menu that is delicious. They have a mix of Arabic American food. I had their appetizer: mozzarella sticks. They were not only cheesy but crunchy... not oily. My friend and I also ordered their falafel which came with hummus and baba ganoush. Although the falafel is a pre-made mix it is well flavored and crunchy. The side salads are perfect consistency. We even dared to try the hookah. Everyone seems to know one another and everyone from the customers to staff was response friendly. The place seemed clean and taken care of and the hookah was the best flavor I've ever tasted. It was like smoking a banana milkshake. The owner of Layaly Cafe, Mo, stopped by to chat with us. You can tell he is really into his craft and he is detail oriented. He runs things his way and I much prefer his style as opposed to other not so desirable hookah spots we have visited in the area. Our hotel was far, we lost track of time, and we almost got stuck taking long subway trains back. Mo and Ahmed (Manager) stepped in and offered us a ride home. Currently sitting in this lounge as I write this review. I got the Blue mist hookah and it's the worst Blue mist I've ever had. The hookah used to be great here, but I guess a lot has changed since my last visit. The hookah is absolutely flavorless and doesn't even pull too well. Another thing that disappointed me was the customer service. I asked the server what their policy was if I wasn't pleased with the hookah, and he basically said I would have to purchase a head change ($7). Every other hookah lounge on this planet will change your hookah if you're not pleased, but not this one. Lastly, they added a 20% tip to the bill, and when we questioned as to why isn't 15% the explanation just made me want to leave without saying a word. They basically said they charge $15 per head for those who do not order hookah. So they were doing us a "favor" by charging us a higher gratuity instead of the extra $15 per head. It was just my boyfriend and I, so we ordered one hookah, and most lounges require two people to get one hookah! Not every person should be required to get their own hookah. Absolute bulls**t. Don't recommend it at all. Take yourself a few blocks down to steinway and go to Jasmin or Ignited. read more

Rarely find hookah spots with such high reviews on Yelp, but now I understand why. This place is awesome. I came amongst a group of 15 for a birthday celebration. The staff was quick and attentive, the food was spectacular, and the place is really well-decorated. Several TV's, would probably be a great spot to watch a game as well. I honestly didn't even try the hookah--I was blown away by the food. Highly recommend the Kofta Kebab platter, the nachos, and the wings. I usually am hesitant to order non-middle eastern food at a hookah spot but this place does it really, really well. My friends really enjoyed the hookah so I'm sure that's great too. The restaurant even brought out my friends birthday cake with a giant sparkler and started playing happy birthday on the speakers. Really great. And the place is certainly good value. Looking through the menu, decided on the Guava-flavor Hookah ($12) and a Mango Smoothie ($7). Hookah is relatively smooth, a solid amount of coals though just a hint of guava flavor. Mango smoothie is thick; actually felt they used real mangoes to make it (for the price, was hoping so). Coals are refilled intermittently without burning the flavor. Was going to give four stars but had to take one off for the auto 20% gratuity. $15 minimum per person, which means you'll probably be ordering drinks and food if you're not here by yourself. I was a little concerned, given that I had actual dinner plans after coming here for hookah, but I shouldn't have been. The food is worth getting! The falafel appetizer comes with baba ganoush and hummus, and the falafel is shaped into pucks (not unlike hookah coals!). The baba ganoush tastes extra eggplant-y and garlicky, and I was really pleasantly surprised. A friend ordered the fries (could have been fried a little longer, but that's my own preference), and another got the hummus. We also got pita with our orders. They use plastic disposable hoses which means you don't breathe in the gunk left behind from the last person who smoked from that hose. We ordered melon, and the quality of the flavor, paired with the lightness of a clean hose, brought me back to 12 years ago, the first time I smoked hookah from disposable plastic hoses in Cairo. Friendly staff, cheap affordable yummy hookahs with tasty combos of shisha BUT something's missing...oh yeah! My "disposable" hose I found had a piece of tape on it...and looking down the pipe I saw some corrosion which led me to believe that it was not in fact new! They do advertise having new hoses for each hookah. No worries, everyone is given an individual tip for their hose! Choosing an orange fruit head and natural coals I was sent for a loop by achieving quite the buzz, and balanced myself out with a "sampler" of hummus, labneh, and grape leaves. They were definitely worth $5 for 3 choices in NYC, but my grape leaves were served cold (Any other time I've ordered them they were warm, which I prefer). One soda, the sampler, and a fresh fruit head hookah WITH 18% gratuity already added was only $26 total. This is the price of one plain, nothing special hookah in CT.
