Don't let the small storefront fool you, this is a great restaurant that you should try. We went there for dinner at 6 pm and were given a table for two on the fourth and top floor near the sliding glass doors to the patio. Floors 1, 2, and 4 are dedicated to dining and the kitchen is on floor 3. My wife and I had the fried oysters, a salad, the ribeye steak and the sea bass with a few drink for 1200 pesos. A great deal given the quality and quantity of the food. It's one of the few restaurants that we've been to where we both want to go back to again on this trip. read more

Layla's is delicious! We had the fried oysters which were amazing, and I don't even like oysters. We split several appetizers and a few entrees. The staff was very friendly, gave our kids balloons, and even served us a few free samples. Super clean. Definitely worth a try. read more

It's fairly difficult to find quality Mexican food in PV, as opposed to resort food with a Mexican flair. And wow, does Layla fit the bill. I had never had a mole sauce as subtle and complex as the one here, and the steak arrachera was beautifully, exquisitely marinated and cooked perfectly. Someone else had recommended the asparagus tempura, which unfortunately loses its crispness quickly in the heat. But! Prior to serving our dishes, they brought out on-the-house crispy fried plantains, and the thinness and crackle achieved was... wow. None of those mealy, thick tostones, this was paper thin. Definitely a foodie place for sure, worthy of you paying attention to the skill and attention that the chef brings to his craft. read more

If you want a fabulous meal with incredible service, you must dine at Layla's. Nestled on a small street just off the busy Ave Mexico, Layla's is just a short taxi ride from the main hotel area in Puerto Vallarta. We were a party of 5 and we had a variety of drinks, appetizers, main dishes and desserts. Every single thing we drank and ate was delicious! The fried oyster on the shell appetizer is a must have! So is the cucumber margarita! The service was impeccable. We had the good fortune of being having the owner, Mr. Rodrigo Mtnez take our reservation, and he graciously gave us the one of the best tables in the house: on the 4th floor roof, with an amazing view. Rodrigo, who speaks English very well, also helped us order, and he offered to customize our dishes any way we wanted. He even changed one of the recipes of his key dishes to make it vegetarian for our daughter, she said it was fabulous. Rodrigo and his staff made us feel like truly welcome guests. We will be visiting Layla's several more times while we're in Puerto Vallarta. This is an absolute MUST when in PV! read more

We probably would not have stopped here if just walking by. We were near and the reviews looked good. The restaurant was very clean but nothing special. Th attention and service we were given was great and very sincere. They made the best mojito either of us ever had. I asked what mint they used and the waiter even brought some leaves out on a plate for us to sample. The food was excellent. They had to use fresh ingredients. Really good Mexican fusion, great drinks, very good service, and interesting building with restaurant on three small floors of building near malacon. We sat on the top floor rooftop and had a very good waiter with great sense of humour (Cruz). Many interesting dishes on the menu and we all chose different items - all were great. Fajitas, pork shank and other pork dishes were very good, as were fried oyster appetizers and table side guacamole. Variety of drinks, beer and wine available are seemingly endless' and deserts and Mexican coffees at the end were very good (caramel crepes were a hit). We've been coming to PV for 22 years and this ranks at the very top of best meals ever! The service was incredible with two staff taking the time to make recommendations and explain the menu. The plating and presentation were equal to a 5 star restaurant. The highlight of the meal was the arrachera. It was so tender with just a hint of smokiness served alongside beautiful sauces. We also loved the fried oysters served atop a delicious light sauce. A perfect bite. My Caesar salad which they graciously added grilled shrimp to at my request was executed perfectly. Just the right sized shrimp not too big, tender and sweet. This was a fantastic meal. We will be back again and again. read more

Overall 5 stars ++ Given food quality, value and service. The rest of the Yelpers are spot on. This place reminds me of Bistro Thersa before they got famous and moved downtown. Two adults with 2+ fancy drinks a piece, 2 apps, a main each plus dessert each - total bill was 1400 pesos. Food quality is on par with the best in PV (Vista Grill, Bravos, etc.) at a significant price reduction. Service, the best I have had in PV in a long time - the chef came out of the kitchen (2 levels away) to see how the food was. The owner was on scene and making sure everything was spot on. Yes it is off the beaten path and you are not "on the beach" so if you are looking for a dinner spot to propose to your sweetheart maybe not, but if you are a discriminating foodie that wants a memorable experience - go and go again. We stumbled across this restaurant, without reading any reviews. It is excellent! The service was excellent! They give you extras, you don't even order, which is a nice surprise. Like a tequila cordial, to cleanse your palate. Rosemary rolls with herbed butter. We had the sticky ribs. OMG to die for!! Then the lemon trout, stuffed with shrimp, mushrooms and I don't know what else. On green rice, which is the prefect compliment. Sit on the veranda if you can. My wife had the best Pina Coloda she's ever had (made from fresh ingredients). I enjoyed the variety of Margeritas. The table-side guacamole was marvelous. My wife enjoyed the Coconut Salmon and I had the Steak Fajitas. We ate some similar food at other places, but the quality at Layla's was through the roof. One of the best meals I have had in pv. Let's start by saying the servers are so friendly. My family and I were seated on the rooftop area, what a nice way to eat outside. We started with some sangrias for drinks and special strawberry Frescas for the kids . We all enjoyed it Dinner started with the famous fried oysters , which were delicious. I am not a huge cooked oyster guy, put the presentation was nice and the flavor was good. My wife and I both had the Aztec soup next , which we had to share with our kids because it was so good. My 5 year old twins lived the soup. My wife and I prefers the prom shank and the Seabass , which I will tell you were both excellent. The pork shank was so perfectly cooked to amazing tenderness with mole sauce was was awesome . The seabass was the star dish. The fish was grilled and topped with shoestring potatoes that were perfectly fried to give the dish a nice crunchy texture. The sauce was a creamy broth loaded with asparagus and mushrooms and blended with the perfect amount of truffle oil . God that dish was so well cooked. Sat on the top floor overlooking the entire city! All the food was amazing and the staff was very nice. The palate cleanser was a nice surprise and so delicious! The fire shrimp was not too spicy, the pork shoulder was so moist it was falling off the bone, the chimichurri steak was different than any chimichurri sauce I ever had but it was delicious and cooked perfectly and the fish tacos were amazing (homemade tortillas)! read more

It is clear from recent reviews that Layla's is a different place then it was a few years ago. Some of the earlier reviews talk about bad service, which is hard to believe. From the minute that we walked into Layla's, we were greeted warmly and were well taken care of. Our waiters were attentive and the service was great. The restaurant has three levels. We reserved the table on the third level that would allow us the best view incorporating the town and the ocean at sunset. We shared three dishes. We had the guacamole which was made fresh at our table. We also had the calamari appetizer. For our main dish we shared the halibut in a coconut cream sauce. The presentations were mouth watering and all three dishes were delicious. This is a restaurant that pays attention to details. The presentation, service and quality of the food were truly exceptional! We will be back. read more

Not sure what the fuss is about. We went here and got all the yelp reviewers recommendations. Bizarrely they brought out the rib appetizer when our entrees came, and they were cold and gristly. We got the pork shank with adobo sauce and while huge the taste was very one-note. Neither dish was finished. I had the sea bass which was passable but both entrees really didn't have much sides to speak of. I should note this place isn't cheap either, prices comparable to much more stylish places on the Malecon or Zona Romantica. We like trying local but don't expect it to come with fancy resto pricing. Best thing was the live music, decent guacamole, and nice mojitos. read more
