Typical decor for Puerto Vallarta - narrow straight back wood chairs and tables, not the most comfortable for those of us who are on the larger side. But plenty of space to spread out, so it all works. This place is one of our favorite places, come here at least twice per trip. Cash only and a little tucked away from main area but still walking distance if staying or eating in Romantic zone. Everything here is handmade and it shows. Never had a bad meal here. Some of our favorites include the chicken cordon blue, shrimp dishes and all the fish. One of our last visits we were seated outside and my seat was staring into the kitchen so I watched all the cooking and prep. Kind of regret it because after watching all these other great things being prepared I was wanting to change my mind over and over again after ordering. It did give me more ideas on what to order next trip, the stuffed fish looked great while i watched that being prepared and I can't wait to try it. read more

It's a real hideaway, and a really cool one. You do have to climb the hill from the beach but so worth it. Service was excellent. I'd recommend any of their seafood but their grilled octopus (pulpo) was out of this world amazing! Delicious. Mouthwatering. Their homemade desserts were decadent. Really enjoyed their flan especially. Drinks were strong and we got a chance to watch the bartender make them and he poured a lot of liquor! We were a happy camper. Cash pay gets discounted rate, but they accept credit card. Love the family vibe. There's seating outside, but the ambience inside was fantastic. It reminded me of a hippy and tiki all in one. Everyone at the restaurant was very friendly. To me it felt like all the dishes just werent fhat great. 4 shrimp dishes to our table and all the shrimp was overcooked. The food was way too expensive ~350-400 pesos per dish which they put 4 shrimp on and two cheap sides. The only reason this place gets good reviews is because they do fishbowl margaritas with a 80/20 liquor/mix-ins split. So if you are into getting wild go here. If you are into being fed and not wasting ur money, go somewhere else. read more

Food ;;;I asked about the shrimp if it was large or small they said large, but it was a small shrimp. vegetables i was about 1/3 of a carrot that was not cooked, one string bean and one small cauliflower floret. The sauce on the shrimp was mediocre. Rice was minimal no more than a tea cup. The price of 425 for the dinner was much more than it deserved being the food served was meager and stingy. Atmosphere is minimal no view except close up plants to block your view of buildings across the street in a nondescript location such as this you would expect for prices to be more than fair, but it was more expensive than. Restaurants on the beach that have better food. Sorry to report this but they should if they want clients customers to come back do much better. To improve get a better chef. Cook the vegetables if you put them on the plate. Lower the prices or put more on the plate Don't be stingy with Rice,. It does not cost that much. The service was good and nice and friendly. At the vice of a friend we went to this hideaway. It is literally off the beaten path. But in a good neighborhood and easy to locate at the end of the street. The menu is large and lots of choices to make I settled on the coconut shrimp and my friend went with the heat tuna. Both of them were exceptional and we do highly recommend this location for the friendly staff, the phenomenal food, and a festive location. read more

This place is a Hideway for a reason! You don't want to find it! The food was mediocre. We had, fried wontins, poblano soup, ribs and shrimp wrapped in bacon and Gouda. The wontons were served hot appeared to be right from fryer. They had a white goo inside that was supposed to be cream cheese and Gouda. The soup tasted very good but for some reason was served just above room temperature. Too bad. The ribs and shrimp seemed like they were prepared ahead of time and held somewhere until an order can. They were both cold and you didn't want to eat them. The shrimp with bacon (never found any Gouda ) was particularly bad cold. Just do yourself a favor and let this hideaway stay hidden and off your list. Oh! We had ice tea here that we liked for what it's worth. read more

This place is hidden at the very edge of the romantic zone. Worth the walk. We sat inside and were entertained by two older ladies trying to pick up a server and buss boy. The food was amazing and came out fairly fast. The soup was good but I would pass on it next time. Both shrimp dishes were amazing. I think the pineapple Diablo shrimp was my favorite as it was a combination of sweet and spicy. We will definitely return here our next trip. read more

Jorge's Hideaway is worth the walk and it is tucked into a great little local neighborhood. You'll get the opportunity to meet the owner Jorge who is always available to talk with customers. Jorge is lovely and wants to make sure you enjoy your food and total experience. There is outside and inside dining options and a full bar. I'd suggest trying out one of their shrimp dishes which are all delightful and delicious. The food is fresh and has great local flavors. Wow! This hidden gem was a wonderful find during my stay in PV. I ate dinner here twice and both times the meals and the service were excellent. At my request they made a grilled garlic shrimp that was to die for. The next day I tried the Atún. So good and rich. When I return to PV I will absolutely return to the Shrimp Shack and try other dishes. My waiter was very friendly. He patiently listened while I practiced my Spanish (and I'm sure his English was superior to my Spanish). I was eating alone, but I never felt alone here. I recommend sitting outside, at the table furthest from the beach end and sit facing the tiny view of the water. In this way the wait staff can easily serve and chat with you. I took my wife here after some research online for good food in PV. We were instantly greeted by friendly staff. I was mistaken, thinking our waiter was Jorge himself with how helpful he was, even offering options not on the menu. My wife got tortilla soup and I got the tropical shrimp ceviche as appetizers. My wife absolutely loved the soup. Our water brought a wonderful chili oil salsa. We put it in our soup to make it even better with a kick of spice. Then came the coconut shrimp. 4 huge and perfectly friend shrimp as our main course. Came with a salad with an amazingly unique dressing. We both enjoyed dunking the shrimp in the the sauce and then in the chili oil. 5/5 would recommend. Wish we were here longer so I could try their whole menu. I don't agree with all the positive reviews on Jorge's Shrimp. First, the positive: The owner greeted us and is a lot of fun. The restaurant is quaint and nicely decorated on a quiet street. The prices are reasonable, but not cheap. Now, the not so good: the food was mediocre in quality. The fish was rubbery, the shrimp were medium-sized and a little over cooked, the mushrooms appeared to be canned, not fresh, and the sauce lacked imagination. There is a 5% charge for using a debit card, but that is not unusual in this area. read more

I had the seared Ahi and my husband had the Salmon. We couldn't finish our meals because the portions were big but they were both delicious, and the potatoes were indescribably delicious creamy and flavorful. The owner Jorge was very welcoming and made us feel like old friends. read more

We stayed in the Romantic Zone, and this was huge on my bucket list. Walked up the hill in the dark, which was an adventure in itself, and then finally found this gem in a very residential neighborhood. It was hot, and late, so we chose to eat outside under the awning. We ended up with a front row view into the kitchen through a screen window. The kitchen was clean, and we got to watch our food being prepared. We also got to witness boys pranking boys in the kitchen which was also memorable. Our food was hot and delicious. Which was really the only thing that mattered. All the rest was added atmosphere. And the servers were on top of beverages so that's how a night should be. read more

Well this was our second time here. It's been years, but the food was just not good. The pineapple shrimp was in an interesting and not tasty syrup mixed with some random cheese. A hidden secret. Very small dining area that maybe can accommodate 20-25 guests. A few tables outside near the entrance can seat a handful of more diners. Friendly & polite staff. The food is 5 star in visual presentation & taste albeit it took well over an hour for our entrees to arrive at our table. Can become noisy since the dining area is so small. Well worth your time to try. CASH only! Tiny bar area for staff to mix cocktails. Think of a very small living room & you get the idea of what to expect. Waiting lines form outside since they do not accept reservations. Food is very SLOW to come from the kitchen but this is Puerto Vallarta. Sit back & enjoy a few cocktails and then be amazed with the food. read more

We've come here a few times over the last 5 years. It's always been wonderful. Last nite four of us ate here and all 4 meals were very disappointing. 4 out of 4 is not good. Also the service was way down. Once our food was delivered no one can back to our table for over 40 minutes to ask us how our food was or bring us the extra bread we asked for when our food was delivered. The place was pretty empty while we were eating, however no one was around to service us. I would have asked for another dish as my stuffed Maui was over cooked. Unfortunately we will not be returning as I can't take a chance bringing guests here who are only in town for 5 days.
