    5 Finger Meal*
    Grace K.

Apparently this is the original location, and I was excited to visit and try their spicy chicken which was highly recommend. The restaurant is definitely vintage looking and I really appreciated the artwork made by customers attached to the wall next to the tables. The employee was friendly. I ordered the 5 piece meal with Layne's sauce and the Jalapeño ranch. The tenders were slightly smaller than I'm used to, but the chicken was seasoned nicely and the amount of spice was nice. The fries were crispy and the Texas toast was perfectly buttery and soft. The Layne's sauce was very balanced with a nice kick of pepper. The jalapeño ranch had a nice kick that went with the spicy tenders. My diagnosis: solid chicken tenders that are better than Canes!

The OG! Food is on point! Crinkle cut fries taste double fried. Comes with garlic toast but I ate it first lol you've have the option spicy or none or mix it up. Service is amazing. Ambiance is awesome.

It's cool that this is the very first Layne's. It's cool that it was founded in 1994 (my class). I especially appreciate that two people can eat here - including drinks - for about $20. That's outstanding! I also enjoyed the "Cane's vs. Layne's" artwork behind the counter. So that's all good. The "nothin' fancy here" decor is fine with me. I gotta be honest though, I didn't think the actual chicken fingers were anything special, and I really would have liked some ranch sauce for both the fries and the chicken. I can't quite figure why Layne's and their (copycat?) competitor only offer ONE sauce and it's "take it or leave it". Oh, and I don't like being asked to tip prior to having received any service, though it has become super common since '94.

    Laynes Sauce*

Great food, not a fan of the lack of awareness. In my Layne's sauce, there was some type of ranch. I have a dairy allergy, and if I hadn't noticed, I would've gone into anaphylactic shock. This level of ignorance and cross contamination is unacceptable. I will be taking my business to Raising Canes, and suggest anyone with food allergies stay away from this establishment.

Food was amazing and staff was very welcoming. They were able to work with my gluten allergy and I'm beyond greatful highly recommend!

This is a must try! It's a mom and pop place with simply great chicken. I had the 4 piece chicken fingers and they were kind enough to let me have two regular and two spicy. Both are tasty and I like the spicy better. It's not spicy hot but is flavorful. The chicken is good on its own and the sauce makes it taste better. Plus the price is still decent... 4 pieces of chicken, fries, toast and a large drink for about $11. The staff is friendly and helpful too.

Was at Texas A&M for a recruiting event and an alum recommended we stopped by Layne's on our way back to Austin. Similarly to Cane's they offer chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, and their own special sauce. Unlike Cane's their chicken, and not just the sauce, had an immense amount of flavor. Their chicken tenders come in two flavors, spicy or regular and I opted for a mixture of both. While I am a spicy fan, expect a KICK when you bite into it. I'm very glad I had some regular to combat the heat. Wish Layne's was more of a chain because I would definitely be there frequently. Will 100% return the next time I'm in College Station!

Ok, this place was my 13yo son's idea. We were in town a few days for a cattle show at the event center. The food was soooooooo good. Honestly, the BEST chicken tender combo I've ever had!!! Great atmosphere, we will definitely come again when we are in town!

I've been coming to Laynes for almost 10 years and enjoy it every time! I always order the box with double potato salad, instead of fries and a side of ranch with a half and half tea. The staff is always friendly and whether dining in or going through the drive thru food comes out hot and fresh.

Gone commercial.... I'm disappointed in Laynes... They used to give u a decent amount of fries and tenders and sauce on the side. Now they don't give u any sauce on the side and cram everything into this small plate. Seems like they are trying to be like Raising Cane's. I think this will be my last visit. I never eat at canes always lanes. If I'm paying $10.70 for this might as well eat canes

I used to live around Hempstead, Prairie view and Waller a couple years ago when I first came to Texas and it was kinda hard finding good places to eat ' I'm not gonna lie I was scouring yelp for about 30 mins before I stumbled across Burger House. I even got to the point where I asked some locals and they said Burger House was a burger staple in C station. Upon looking at the photos, it seemed like a burger that you make at the house to be candid. When I pulled up, I was like "oh wow this place look like a straight shack that's fasho." I decided to go through the drive-through & when I pulled up to the drive-through the gentleman who took my order was hella welcoming and just overall nice like he was happy I pulled up. I swear I was the highlight of my visit. I ended up getting the combo , bacon cheeseburger with fries and a drink, and it was for decent price too. The burger itself was mediocre if I'm being honest, the meat lacked some seasoning, though the fries were pretty decent with a soft inside, light crisp outside. I like the fact they put the lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles on the side instead of in the burger which can make it soggy. So there was some attention to detail. The Bun though? That thang was soft on the outside and was lightly toasted on the inside, which was dope. Would I be back? If I'm being honest, just to say wasup to the gentlemen who took my order and that's about it!

We were BLOWN AWAY by the number of college students, dressed in their Sunday's best, openly praying over their food before enjoying some awesome chicken. It was SO NICE TO SEE! We ordered a family meal (20 pieces), 2 sides of fries and a chicken sandwich meal. We paid around $40. Great value! The food came out quick and arrived hot and fresh. I had a slight "issue" where I thought my chicken wasn't fully cooked and the manager reassured me that it was just breading but happily remade my sandwich to give me peace of mind. I REALLY appreciated that. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, literally leaving "not a fry left behind." The size of my chicken on the sandwich was HUGE- had to be hanging off the roll by 2" on each side! Staff were phenomenal. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Love the laid back decor. Like southern fried chicken breaking bad. I first had it at Hattie B's in Nashville. Hot! I mean really hot! And absolutely cravable. I had sort of given up on good hot chicken outside of Tennessee (not a fan of the other local spots in BCS), so I was excited to try Houston Hot Chicken. Stylish and functional interior, with good sized tables, comfy chairs. A little loud for talking. The best reason to come is the excellent staff, though. They explain all the different spice levels and are educated about the restaurant and their offerings. Super helpful and well trained folks (which anyone in BCS knows is remarkable in a town of college student staffed fast food). Sade, who helped me, is the best! I had a meal that included one tender at the Spicy Level and a Medium level sandwich, and subbed cole slaw for the fries. Also had a scrumptious strawberry hibiscus frosty lemonade - pro tip: get it half and half frozen and liquid for the perfect drinkability. Well, I should have eaten the sandwich before the tender because I blew out my palette on the addictive spiciness and succulent texture of the tender. 13/10 for pure tasty pain. The coleslaw, while not remarkable on its own, is a welcome break. The dipping sauce is fine but honestly, it added more texture than taste when you're eating at Spicy Level and above. I also like how you get the traditional hot chicken finish on the meat but without it coming across like a grease bomb (although your bright orange fingers will tell a different tale). I blew my spice induced runny nose about 35 times. The sandwich, supposedly medium spicy, was pretty mild at this point lol. Very tasty. The slaw and pickles provide a nice crunch and texture. Good bun, too, and nicely toasted. This is a great spot for hot chicken and even mild chicken. The no spice and honey butter levels are good for even the wimpiest diners . If you are a chile head, it's a no brainer, definitely go. And don't miss the slushes!
