Been trying to drink here for sometime. Normally too many people or closed because of private party. Last night I finally got in though! Waited in line for maybe 15 minutes and got in. Lots of folks. Place was buzzing. There are 2 bars down stairs. One is bigger the other is smaller. First drink I got was a Mai Tai. There was a band that was playing very talented and entertaining. After a while my friends showed up. They waited in line. Didn't take them too long to get in. I don't tend to make reservations for bars. But I should have because might have been like an hour before I sat. But it felt cool+ good because I had been wanting to drink here for such a long time. I will say the drink menu is pretty extensive. Had the best White Russian of my life here. Also got a Clover Club. Eventually some seats opened up at the bar and my friends and I were holding court on barstools. I didn't realize until last night the rest of the building is a hotel so it probably means that the bar will always decent amount of people coming into the bar. read more

I went in with high expectations and found Lazy Bird lacking; overrated, overpriced. Cocktails were priced as if they were unique, creative developments when in fact they're all just classic cocktails executed well. I don't think I'd been to a cocktail bar that didn't actually have creative unique cocktails. And then the cocktails are like $17 a piece which is crazy for just a classic cocktail. The worst part however was when we sat down it was pretty slow, we were drinking steadily. After a bit it got a little busier but the server came by and I had ordered a cocktail. Not 30 seconds later she came by and said "we need this table, are you waiting on anything?" Yea, my cocktail that I JUST ordered. She dropped off the check before she dropped off my cocktail and the manager said our time was up as my cocktail came back. I'm like we're sitting here drinking at a steady pace and you guys kicked us out. We weren't putzing about, we were waiting on drinks and got rushed out the door. On a Saturday night, I waited under 20 minutes to be let in. There was a live musician playing and the place was well decorated with moody lighting. I'm not that big on alcohol, but I got to try the Clover Club (london dry gin, raspberry syrup, lemon, & egg white) and it was fantastic. If you're into fruity drinks, I would recommend it. Very sexy scene, great cocktails and sometimes live jazz playing in which I have seen on Thurs-Sat evenings. Place can get very crowded on those nights in which you may run into a line down the hallway anytime after 8-9pm. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are a bit more chill and not as crowded. I needed a before dinner cocktail with some girl friends and I'm so happy I tried out Lazy Bird for the first time because the vibes were all we needed to lounge and talk before enjoying our dinner at another restaurant in Fulton Market It's a little tricky to find the bar if you've never been and/or you're not familiar with the Hoxton. You enter Lazy Bird through the Hoxton hotel, going down the stairs and following the signs to the bar. If you're having trouble finding it, go to the receptionist desk of the hotel and they'll help you locate it Wow, I was amazed when I saw the 52+ cocktails on the menu and IMMEDIATELY (can you see my excitement here) ordered the drink called "My Neighbor Taro" (I think that's the name) and it was hands down one of the best Mezcal cocktails i've had in the city so far. It was the perfect mix of just enough smokey (I can't stand a non smokey mezcal cocktail) with subtle sweetness from the taro and coconut. I legit could've ordered two more and been fine with the $17 price tag... it was that good. My warning if you try out Lazy Bird is to be prepared to stand with your drinks or try and potentially fail to find seating. You can put your name on a waitlist when you walk in, but we had a quick dinner coming up so decided to just stand with our drinks near the bar. This is a very large establishment. You can dine and drink on the first floor. When you enter they have a rooftop and they even have a spot in the basement. The Location is downtown so you can Uber or Lyft or pay to park. It's very popular and can get crowded on the weekend. Each area has a different vibe and music. The basement has a live band which is really nice however, I did not like that. They only have one female restroom to use. Despite the mini patrons that visit this place there may be some zoning regulations pertaining that however he was clean and the drinks are delicious as well. Very easily one of the best places to grab cocktails in the West Loop/ Fulton Market areas. Its an elevated cocktail experience and if you hang around the bar, you can see each bartender putting great effort and art in to each cocktail they pour. Lazybird offers a speakeasy vibe in the lower level of the Hoxton, dim/moody lighting, Couches and highboys for a social cocktail experience for big and small groups, and the best part, live music. For no cover!! I have caught so many amazing shows, and discovered so many talented artists though grabbing a cocktail at Lazybird. It does get crowded quick and this is not a reservation establishment so arrive early and stay late OR be prepared for a line or not having a table to enjoy your cocktails. They also have an extensive menu of cocktails. I mean pages which means they have a cocktail for everyone. I stopped by this past Friday night. I've been here a few times before and the drinks have always been GREAT! Food: N/A Drinks: I had a sidecar and it was good! Service: There was a (new) $10 cover charge. There was a stand/easel advising the new cover charge. After paying and entering, everything seemed unorganized. When the question was asked why/when etc regarding the cover charge, the answers varied from " I don't know" to "yesterday" to "the other day." Ooooooook no answers were the same but $10 cover- cool. It's not the fee but the principle. So before there was no cover, drinks were already up in price/includes service fees etc but there was good music/bands playing. I then noticed no one seemed to be charged after 12am. So apparently there is no fee after 11:30pm. Don't quote me on it, again communication was struggling. So I'm sticking to the website of just seeing $10 8:30pm-11:30pm on band nights. Once inside, tables were full and/or reserved but the man (I was told his name was Matt and he was the manager) at the door (glasses/locs) was so unorganized, a bit rude, told folks where to move to, where not to stand etc but wasn't trying to add any solutions to the problems. It was like where do you want us to go if you aren't trying to accommodate (now) paying guests? There was an employee at the door/table named Andy who was cool and that was about it. Atmosphere: Chill, music, band. I enjoyed it in the past due to being able to hear a bit of R&B, a splash of Hip-Hop and a great mix of that with a band. This past visit had me so underwhelmed. The band was hardly playing and when they were on the mic, it was as if they were doing sound check or didn't rehearse. Now with there being a cover fee, if that continues that may be an issue. Final Thoughts: I know nothing stays the same forever but I truly hope whatever shift this is goes up and not down. Again, the drinks were still on point! Don't replace Bartenders. Everything else was a bit underwhelming. I will return and hope the door situation is better as well as customer service and organization. I love good music. read more

I had a mai tai, and a French 75, both were easily the best I've ever tasted, and I've had a lot of cocktails in my middle aged life! Having visited Lazy Bird a few times in the past year and a half, it remains perplexing to me why I often see so many bad reviews here. Is it a little hard to find? Well, sure, but that's kind of the point. Is it a little bit crowded? Of course, but what bar isn't on a Friday or Saturday night. Might you have to wait in line for a little bit? Yea, probably, but they do an excellent job getting people in. Is it worth it? Absolutely. I have simply never had a bad drink at Lazy Bird, in fact, I've never had anything short of spectacular here. If you're lucky enough to stop in when you can have a bit of a conversation with your bartender, make sure you take that opportunity to give them an idea of what you typically like, your preferred spirits and tasting notes. They'll either pair you with something on the extensive menu or create something spectacular for you. Last night, on a bit of a whim, we stopped downstairs at around 9pm. For a busy Friday night, we only waited in line for about ten minutes before we were able to order at the bar. There was a great (if not extremely loud) soul band playing that fit the vibe perfectly, and despite being a bit packed we were able to comfortably enjoy the music an our drinks. My wife had an Aviation, a featured menu item, that was made to perfection. I went with an off-menu Oaxacan Old Fashioned that ranked among the best I've had, just surprisingly complex and perfectly balanced. Lazy Bird can't be your everyday, neighborhood bar, but that's not what it's trying to be. For something a little different, a hipper vibe and unbelievable cocktails, make it a point to get down there a few times a year. You won't be disappointed. read more

And that's not just because I was there :) It was almost worth the 40 min wait to get in. The bar service was fast as the place is packed fast. I think you can only have the tables for 90 minutes. We'll whatever system they are using is ok with me as it seemed that more people were coming in. The mojito I had was top shelf and worth whatever I paid. My friends seemed to enjoy their frozen cosmos or this girl we were with would not have had 6 of them in 1 in a half hours . The jazz was kind of mixed with some top 40 performances. Music starts at 9:30 ...maybe next time I get there at 8:15 I won't have to wait 45 min. But the wait was worth it. read more

We stopped in here for a drink on a Thursday evening before a dinner reservation nearby. They weren't too busy when we arrived but had just opened for the evening. We easily nabbed seats at the bar, where we were greeted right away and given cocktail menus. I ordered a French 75, a light cocktail made with gin, lemon juice, simply syrup and champagne. It's one of my favorite drinks and this was easily the best I've ever had. My husband ordered a Manhattan, which he let me try, and it was also quite good. The ambience was a little dark, very laid back. I can see how it may get crowded quickly as the evening picks up - when we left, there were quite a few people waiting to get in. The bar staff were friendly and it was fun to watch them make their magic happen up close. Truthfully, we were a little sad to leave for our dinner reservation because we wanted another round. This is such a cool place. It's in the basement of the Hoxton Hotel, the doorman is super friendly and will guide you as it's kind of a speakeasy vibe and a little tricky to find. The first time I went here it was a Saturday and super crowded but the bartenders are amazing and we barely waited for our drinks despite the bar being three people deep. We popped in again last night and were actually able to grab a table this time although, again, it was definitely still very busy. As it turns out, the server and I had almost identical taste in alcohol so she gave me great recommendations. They also have the best version of a Grasshopper that I've ever tried.
