The most flavorful and reasonably priced prime rib dinner!!! Hidden away, very quirky vibe, good service at restaurant and they sell local art

I was looking for an option instead of eating at the casino resort I was staying at. I remembered Lazy H. I hadn't been here since the late 1980's! It was great! I went for lunch with a couple of friends, and we enjoyed great service, a cool view of hummingbirds, and really good food! In fact, it was so good, I brought my cousins back for dinner. We had the same experience! Lazy H will be on my dining list for future trips! Great value for the price! The prime rib sliders were awesome, and the chopped steak with twice bake potato was great too! And beautifully plated! My expectations were exceeded!

This is definitely my favorite dish, the chicken is nice and crisp, the twice baked potato is delicious!

Harrah's Resort Southern California - Living room area (surfside suite)

Harrah's Resort Southern California

(2.2k reviews)

We had a fun and super relaxing staycation at Harrah's So Cal. ‍ We stayed two nights. Here are our…read moreratings breakdown. It was my first time to Harrah's. Room: We stayed in a Premium King room in the Dive Inn Tower. The view of the pool area was fantastic. The room was clean and I love that even though it doesn't have an actual balcony, it has a sliding glass door that opens so you can get lots of fresh air. The room rate was reasonable using the Caesar's Rewards app. Food (not including Hell's Kitchen): food options are limited. There are currently two full service restaurants that are in the process of rebranding. This leaves current food options limited to fast food, Chinese food, and pool food. There is a cafe, which we ate at once, and it also falls under the one star category. Hell's Kitchen: Definitely worth the splurge! Food and service were impeccable. We enjoyed our meal very much. (Reviewed Hell's Kitchen separately. Night life: Not a destination for night life. There was a band that played one of the nights, but it was not really our jam. Casino: As far as casinos go, it was fine. We are not gamblers, but we threw a few $$ in a video blackjack game. Casino is very smoky. Pool area: This is definitely a highlight and was the main reason for us choosing Harrah's. There is a swim up bar and a large adult only pool. Kids are allowed at the lazy river portion so that area gets super crowded. But it's a fun vibe. We appreciated that the rest of the pool area is adults only (21+) and the staff were on top of running kids out. Adequate chairs and umbrellas for shade. It was in the 90's when we were there, which was just perfect. Overall, a nice destination especially if you are wanting some R&R pool time.

I even played…read morethe popular slots like Huff n Puff, Dragon Link, Five Fortunes, Phoenix Link, Monopoly Express, and the new Monopoly board game. (I avoided the craps machines this time since they seem to seven out very often after 3-5 rolls.) All the slots took $500 each with either zero return or very abysmal $20-100 return (after already being down $500 so that's not even worth it at all). I don't even do small bets, I usually do $4+ spins on 2¢ denominations on everything so it's really baffling that I only get back less than 10% of what I put in. All of this was also within 2 hours so it's very concerning that you can lose huge amounts of money so fast. I even tried with $265 worth of moreplay since moreplay isn't supposed to negatively affect the machine but... Nothing. Nada. Zero features whatsoever. That's absolutely bonkers and makes no sense. The RTP really needs to be checked here and they need to change their slogan to "the tightest slots in San Diego". But hey at least I got a "free" baking dish set. What a joke 6/7 update: Came here again since my family loves this place. I checked my overtime play and wow.. I'm shocked. With $2500 down the drain from last week I only accrued $40. Wtf is that?? Yeah there's definitely no rewards or perks worth it to keep playing. I also lost another $115 in moreplay and another $150 in actual money. Again, ZERO features for $115 of moreplay, one feature on one slot that paid me $15 after being down the first $70 and then zero features on the second slot losing my last $70. Lost it all in 30 minutes. I don't understand how anyone is reaching the black card tier unless they're literally spending $20,000 every 6 months to maintain black card status. I've never once walked out positive or even breaking even. Either the RTP is seriously fucked here or I have 0% luck If I were to give 5 stars for something though, it would be for Kevin in the VIP room. Give that dude a raise or promotion for the best customer service Also minor note, it's funny that I'm still not recognized and get carded to enter the casino by the same security guards over and over despite coming here 1-2 times a week every week for 2 years now

As noted in other reviews the rooms are small- my husband and I are NOT small, we managed! The tall bed was comfortable and there was a helpful step placed in the closet so I did not have to resort to a high jump to get in. The bed was comfy. Breakfast was ok- I have a food allergy and staff had to scramble to accommodate it. I didn't think of it when we made the reservations, so that is on me. STAFF WAS AMAZING! Warm, friendly and filled with recommendations on where to eat ( dinner- and of course APPLE PIE!) We all agreed (we were traveling with others) that we would like to come and stay again. When you take into account the afternoon tea and a full breakfast, it's downright budget friendly!

That would probably pay for parking in San Diego hotels. This is a historic building and an interesting attraction in its own right. Breakfast is included and it was terrific. Food is expensive in Julian. A similar breakfast at a local restaurant would be $20. The staff are great. I met several day managers and the night security guy. They are all terrific people. It is really like staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. These is no TV. I think that belongs with the pros. The location is great. Right in the middle of town. Cons: Our room was tiny. Really tiny. Use the drawers and closets for your stuff so you don't trip over it. A side effect of the smallness of the room is that the heater/ac struggles to control the temperature . The design of any heater/ac unit presumes a room volume. The room is so tiny, the heater's built in control parameters are way off. Parking, parking is "street parking" and on a weekend, it's every man for himself. You may have to drag your bags a block or two. ---------------------- So would we stay there again? Absolutely. I would probably spend a bit more and get one of the small number of larger rooms, if available. If you want to relax and read, I cannot think of a better place. One thing I should mention, if you attempt to make reservations on line, there are half a dozen fake web sites imitating the hotel. They are put up by a dodgy travel company. They are really good imitations. I even an experienced computer user could be fooled. It is best just to call them.

A hotel guest even went out of her way to tell us how much she loved her room stay. Game-wise, they have a good variety from penny slots to high rollers, plus a great mix of classic machines. Like any casino, the slots are hit-or-miss; some pay out a bit, others are tight. Although there's a smoke-free area, the smell lingers so I did see some people wearing masks due to the smell. Unfortunately, my family visited again this past weekend (June 4-7, 2026) and experienced another problem. This time, we were charged at a restaurant and sports bar that we never visited. As of today, no one from the casino has contacted us to apologize or make things right. We've spent hours on the phone with both our bank and the casino, with no meaningful resolution other than having to cancel our credit cards ourselves to prevent the charges from going through. We are extremely disappointed. Our family has been coming to Pala for more than 25 years, and it's upsetting to experience these issues. If these unauthorized charges are happening to other patrons as well, that is very concerning. What a shame to see a place we've enjoyed for so many years leave us feeling this way.

They have different animal experiences you can book in advance for on their website, but their most popular seems to be the one where you get to sit in a pool with otters! The session and communication beforehand were well organized and helpful. I won't spoil everything, but not only did we get to sit in a pool with otters zooming all over the place at the end, but we got to learn about, see, and touch about 6 other types of animals up close + walk through some of the property to view some other saved animals. For the otter swim, the team will take tons of photos using your phone or camera, so you can just enjoy the moment! They recommend wearing a tank or shirt over your swim suit (there will be time to change into it right before the swim), and J wish I wore a looser shirt, because it gives more space for the otters to wiggle in and explore :D Plenty of parking, clean restrooms on site, bring your own water/snacks if needed. Definitely a little pricey, but it goes to support the reserve and its little critters and was such a fun time!
