After a very late dinner, we were searching the neighborhood for profiteroles for dessert and Le Bistro de la Place was the first we noticed. I am so glad that we stopped in because it was great! We ordered some coffee and dessert and stayed for a while on their outdoor patio. Everything was phenomenal, and we especially loved the profiteroles. My only critique was that the service seemed to be a bit rushed, but it could have been that we came late and were only ordering dessert. I definitely recommend coming by for a coffee! read more

As we often do, Saturday is a day for getting up late, croissants, then off to Le Marais to wander around, maybe a little shopping... Having invested in some summer shirts at BHV (wow! hasn't that changed...it now has a Mens store which is no longer just an afterthought...) we headed for La Marche, one of our favourite luncheon places...it used to have an old Citroen wagon outside but it was stolen However, today it was pretty full, outside was full of smokers, we weren't overjoyed by the menu...we went next door to La Place (turns out the guy who owns La Marche owns this and another one across the other side of the square ) Anyway, it is very different; odd decor; it had Les Diaboliques playing on one wall, some decent music and a different menu. I chose the croustillant goat's cheese (very odd but good), my partner the tuna tartare; she followed with the fondant de boeuf and I had the piece boucher (well cooked please - it was; excellent!). This was washed down with a Brouilly Ch de Tour - also very good and espressos after Any complaints - just one...there was so much to eat!!! By the time she had ploughed through most of the tuna, she was full and the fondant was amazing (I confess I helped out - decent thing to do; don't want to upset the chef etc...) It is a super small Cafe. We came here on our first day in Paris. We needed a place to sit and rest. Plus at the same time to grab a drink. I got the Darjeeling tea and B got an espresso. Drinks were ok. He said his coffee was ok. Nothing too wow. Also service was meh. Not great. read more

Best dish I've had in Paris! I had the Normandy scallops. Very friendly and mellow atmosphere in a cute quiet place.

Tried to eat here last year but couldn't get a table. Was successful this year and loved it this time also. Found a table for one just before the crowd arrived. Ordered from the daily formule and started with the entrée of grilled Camembert drizzled with honey over a small bed of greens dressed in a light vinaigrette. My plat arrived but it was the Faux Filet maybe because of my 'fluent' French. It quickly was changed to the correct plat of Daube de Jou de Boeuf (beef cheeks and carrot stew) with wild rice. The Brouilly wine was just right for this dish. It was rich and delicious so didn't order the dessert. Had a café instead. Still crowded with the hungry masses circling the Place Ste. Catherine without having to queue up. There are 4 excellent restaurants tucked into this tiny courtyard in the Marais. read more

There are several more popular and higher rated places nearby. Where all the tourists were. All the patrins except us were French. First himt that it was worth trying. I like ro buck trends and travel off the beaten path. I do not have enough words for how excellent our service and meal where. My pitiful french had us thru several drinks, perfect cocktails appetizers and a main we split. I can not say enough for how wonderful it was. From the mustard based dressing to the sauce au poivre for a perfectly cooked medium rare steak. The roasted seeds in the bread..oh my. Chocolate mousse is perfect 5 stars and pure heaven, the cheesecake right there too. Next trip to Paris, I'm there. Maybe even tomorrow, tho it's a few clicks in the wrong direction. read more

My husband stayed around the corner from the Place St. Catherine when he was first in Paris. It's a testament to this lovely area that he remembered it well enough to navigate back there over a decade later. All the bistros looked great, but we chose this one in a beautiful serendipity. The atmosphere in this area was a nice change from the swanky, upper-crust crowds in the more touristy places we've been frequenting on this trip: our server sported tattoos, piercings and funky clothing, and she was the sweetest and friendliest person you could have found anywhere. The food was incredible. I started with a white carrot soup, which was light and flavorful; it needed salt, but I was too shy to ask for fear of offending (I kicked myself when I saw several others ask later. I guess they under-salt here as a general rule, which is certainly better than the reverse.) My husband had homemade ravioli in a pesto-cream sauce that was too rich to finish even though we both loved it. For a main course he got a "side of pork" (basically a large chop) topped with a mustard sauce. It was "pretty freakin' delicious," as he claimed after three bites. I liked it, but I liked mine better, thankfully: a whole roasted sea bass that fell easily off the bone into bites of tender flesh with crispy skin. I ate every bit and would have sucked on the carcass if I had been in the privacy of my own home! The flavor was amazing, understated but showcasing the quality and freshness of the fish. Even the side dish, a sautéed medley of spring vegetables (carrots, peas, fava beans, snow peas,) was delightful. Their desserts looked tempting, but we stuck to coffee since we had ice cream plans for later that night. No one rushed us (or ignored us!) as we sat finishing our wine and soaking in the neighborhoody atmosphere of the Marais. read more

Loved this place! My daughter were staying in St Catherine's square so we came here to times and were not disappointed. Service was attentive and helpful. We ordered the tuna tartar both times for appetizer it was very fresh and tasty as were the avocados. She ordered the bacon cheeseburger - OMG so good! The fixings were great but the quality of the beef was terrific add well. I ordered the baked tomato with chévere and pesto whick was unique and really tasty but could have been baked little longer. I also highly recommend the lava cake for dessert! read more

So this place was amazing. We were staying in Le Marais and decided to poke around and shop around the area. We stumbled upon this place and my mom took a picture of the name so we could come back another time for a meal. We decided to coke for dinner a few nights later and we were pleased with our dinners! I ordered the beef stew and my mom got the chicken. The meat was so tender and flavorful, everything was delicious. When looking around at the people next to us, their entrees and desserts looked great as well. Would definitely recommend coming here! read more

We were exhausted after flying all night from the US and chose Le Bistro de la Place for our first restaurant in Paris across the street from our flat. We had a delightful dining experience and the owner and staff were so patient dealing with our rudimentary French. I woke the next morning only to discover my purse with my passport, money and credit cards was missing. We quickly returned to the restaurant and the owner was happy to return my purse and nothing was missing. He had even gone so far as to call local hotels to try to find us. We returned 3 more times each time enjoying a delicious meal. I had the escargot and salmon twice...just delectable. Not only was the food excellent but the owner, Claude, and his waiter, Johan, were truly special people. We highly recommend this restaurant. read more

We sat there only because it was beautiful night and we wanted to sit outside. The service was horrible. They took 25 minutes to come take our order then got the food 1 hour after. The Duck was bland with no flavor and so was the mashed sweet potatoes. The waiters could care less and barely came by our table. read more

French restaurant of the middle class. Typical of two or three courses menu that particularly in memory does not remain. At the Place du Marche Ste Catherime one sits however very beautifully. I found the small square where this place is by accident while wandering around the neighborhood. I picked this place out of all the choices on the square because it looked like all the patrons were enjoying themselves and I'm glad I did. If I only had one word to describe this place it would be lively. Friendly waiters bustle around, squeezing between the tables. If you need more water or bread anyone of them will notice and provide it. The food is great- I had trout followed by a pear poached in wine for about what I thought was very reasonable price. read more

This place had all the right signals; off the main street, crowded, and a decent sounding menu. However, for whatever reason, this missed on two fronts. First, the service was problematic. They were either understaffed or, as it appeared to us, the favored those sitting outside to the exclusion of those inside. We waited more than 10 minutes after asking for a dessert menu after being asked what we wanted next. When they came back the second time, and again found out we wanted a dessert menu, we finally got it, but we weren't willing to wait long enough to get our order taken, get the food, etc. Particularly when our enthusiasm for the quality of the food was diminished. To be fair, the sea bass my daughter ordered was pretty good, and the cheese plate my son ordered would be hard to mess up. However, when they can't do a good job with French Onion soup (which my son had a great version of for lunch somewhere else, and is a pretty-well understood dish), your confidence diminishes. When the side dish for their speciality (lamb confit) is provencal beans that seem to be unseasoned (without, even, herbs de Provence), you realize that they're more about getting people in rather than keeping them coming back. Fortunately, we have had other good experiences elsewhere, but this place undermined the reputation of having to work hard to get a bad meal in France (and Paris in particular). read more

B.A.D. Bad. As another review mentioned, it looks the part and mostly feels the part. It has a nice outdoor seating area on a plaza. This was the worst meal we had in Paris and chose this restaurant mainly because of the proximity to where we were staying. All three dishes we ordered were not cooked properly. A mussels dish spent too much time under the broiler, a salmon dish was lukewarm and rare (and I do understand a lot of places in Europe barely cook salmon). A steak dish was ordered medium, came rare and was also luke warm. Fries were good though. No value for price and no way I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Can't really say there were a ton of locals at this place. I imagine they are making their business on the backs of people who will never be repeat customers. read more

To begin with, I see that there have not been many recent reviews. We unfortunately had an experience that compelled us to add one. The meal was OK but for € 50 incl drinks I expect better: The serving of pommes frites had some noticeably cold ones intermingled. Read: 'Recycled'. Next time you pull that off, at least shove them to the very bottom, please, so as to be less noticeable. The warm layer above will have heated them through once the naïve patron gets to the bottom. The place had fewer guests than the adjoining restaurants around pretty Place Ste Cathérine. Curiously that did not change over an hour or so. Non-Parisians were pointed to side tables, ostensibly in an effort to attract more locals? Those did not seem to show up over the course of the evening, and with that attitude I'm afraid that phenomenon is rather self-explanatory. read more

I was yesterday in this restaurant having lunch with 6 friends and we all order the menu offered by this restaurant. The onion soup was horrible and done with a cheese of really low quality. Two of us we order a dessert( we choose it from the menu shown by the waitress in a board); which was included in the menu for 4 euros extra. Asking for the bill we discobered that they charged the desserts appart and when we complain about it they treat us disrespectfully and with really bad maners saying that the dessert they served us was not included in the menu. We were ashamed as the waitress offered this dessert to us like if it was included in the menu. It is not that we sisnt understood what they were saying, as we speak fluent french, is that they do this kind of things to foreigners, as if we are stupid, for just earning 10 euros more. Well, the resume is that the food quality is poor, service is bad and disrespectful and cheecky, and I wouldn´t recomend this restaurant at all. read more
