After reading some of the reviews, I was a little unsure. But what the hey, I'm in Omaha for business and wanted a low-key and healthy options. This place did not disappoint me. I love the fact that they are farm to table restaurant. I went there for lunch, had a crepe and arugula salad. Enjoyed it immensely and decided to treat myself for dinner with a Nebraska wagyu steak entree and paired it with one of their fine wine options. Enjoyed the atmosphere, service and yummy food. Just as Yelp says about it's 5 star ratings, this place is as good as it gets in Omaha. Took the wife there for her Birthday dinner and boy did they get it right. It seems that from reading others reviews that they get it right everytime. The food, the drink, the service and the ambiance were all right on spot. Having just returned from France we were somewhat knowledgeable of the menu and what to expect. She had the Grilled Wagyu Skirt Steak and I had the Cassoulet both accompanied by a bottle of Rhone Valley's Pierre Gonon, Sainte Joseph 2012. The meal simply could have not been any better. We discovered this gem by walking around the Old Market District. The food is wonderful - this place would star in any large-city market (like our home town, Chicago). The room is a nicely retro old commercial space, with plenty of space between tables, quiet enough for conversation without being dead. The service was superb. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about both the food and the wine. The duck confit "toast" was delightfully unusual - very light and very tasty. Both the pork presse and arroz a la Plancha entrees were similarly out-of-the-ordinary: great combinations of flavors and textures, and beautifully presented, to boot. And the wine! A wonderfully smallish but exceptionally well-chosen assortment of mostly French wines. Criticisms: (1) we would love an actual Champagne by the glass, though the cremant from Jura was nice; (2) it would be nice to have a Burgundy and/or Bordeaux by the glass (rather than Beaujolais and Chinon - neither is a favorite of ours). My boyfriend is from Africa and his first language is French. He's been here since 2012 and has yet to find a french restaurant that someone actually speaks french. Excited about what I heard about this restaurant, I called in anticipation asking to see if there was a server who actually spoke french. The guy on the phone excitedly told me yes so I made a reservation for the next day, specifically asking for him as my server. We showed up and they seated us and a women came to the table and told me she was our server. Slightly confused, I asked if she spoke French and she told me no. I told her about he call I had made and why I was there and she told me he was the only worker that spoke French and he wasn't working that night. At this point, I was livid. I wanted to walk out and never return. I calmly asked my boyfriend if he wanted to say and he said yes. We stayed and I tried being positive about it. We ordered a bottle of wine that tasted very good. I told our server that I don't eat pork and asked what she suggested, she told me, "the chicken dish or the duck one" no explanation of what else it was. I asked my boyfriend just to order for me as I was in the mood for seafood. All of a sudden a man walks up and starts to speak French with my boyfriend. They talk for a good 10 minutes & I am so confused. He walks away and I asked what just happened. My boyfriend said he order everything for me and that it went well and he knew a lot of the menu. The appetizers promptly came out and they tasted absolutely amazing. Our women server then car back and explained to us that he had returned to the restaurant just for us and he was actually at home baking bread. He brought us bread (again freaking amazing). The scallops were our main dish and I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall it started off as a negative experience but turned to one of the best date nights I've ever had. What can I say, everything was perfect. Menu had excellent variety. I went with imported Serrano ham, grilled romain with an excellent anchovy dressing, duck confit cooked perfectly with a crisp skin and tender meat followed with a house made pistachio ice cream of the day. The wine list has excellent old world options from France and Spain and even some delicious splits. If you've had a bad experience here it's the exception. I will be back next time I'm in Omaha!!! Is it weird to say La Bouillon tries too hard to be nouveau French? The service is always great but the food is always "meh." Certain things are good--the charcuterie (but you can't really mess this up) and the pate were menu standouts as was the Spanish tortilla. But the sweetbreads tasted like over breaded fried strip-mall Chinese food. The escargot was also unrecognizable as snails (I prefer the classic garlic butter preparation). The Wagyu skirt steak was just mediocre. The potatoes Aligot were too soupy. I give them a "B" for effort but there is something to be said about trying to be too culinarily creative. Please simplify this menu and get a few traditional French bistro items on rotation. Indeed, less is more.... read more

I'm not a fan of restaurant week (I usually like just ordering off the regular menu) but I saw the vichyssoise (potato leek soup, rock shrimp, lobster butter, and crispy leeks) on Le Bouillon's menu and had to try it. This soup was absolutely incredible - one of the best things I've ever eaten. The best part was the crispy leek garnish. The soup was creamy and so full of flavor. It contained a few little shrimp, but they were truly overshadowed by the amazing flavor of the soup. For my meal I had the cassoulet (pork belly, duck confit, garlic sausage, anasazi beans, and breadcrumbs). The meat in this meal was tender and decadent. The pork, duck, and sausage all had a different flavor and each one was incredible in its own way and complemented one another perfectly in contributing to the overall flavor of the dish. Not surprisingly, this dish was very heavy. I could only finish a little over a half of it (which made me sad because I wanted to eat it all). The dessert was a lemon sorbet with compressed melon topped with a small gingerbread cookie served in a teacup. The sorbet was good and the compressed melon was awesome (the waitress explained what was in it but I cannot remember). The gingerbread cookie was also really good and I am not a fan of gingerbread. Probably my only complaint would be that the gingerbread flavor clashed with the flavor of the sorbet and melon. They were both good on their own, but did not really go well together. Our waitress was fantastic! She was so bubbly and friendly and was happy to explain the menu to us and offer up vegetarian options for a non-meat eater in our group. She also suggested fantastic and unique drink pairings for our meal. They did not have a drink my friend wanted, so she consulted with the bartender and suggested a substitute drink, and brought her a complementary glass of wine while she waited for her drink to be made (the substitute drink was fantastic, by the way). I tried a glass of their punch ($5). It was served in a small glass and was good, but nothing amazing. I will probably try something different the next time I visit - they have plenty of unique options and a great wine selection. We had Sunday Brunch for a party of 6. While we were greeted/seated promptly and courteously, service levels declined dramatically from there. Our server and bus-people were consistently professional and courteous, they're service levels left much to be desired. In fact, there were people at other tables raising their hands for service. The food, however, was redeeming. We had a broad cross-section of the menu, with the German Pancakes and Croque Madam the best of the bunch. The Bloody Mary, though, was not a traditional formulation - interesting, but not what immediately comes to mind. By all means, give it a chance for the food. I don't expect to see servers wearing jeans and flannel shirts in what appears to be French bistro. The casual thing thing in restaurants has been taken a bit too far in my opinion. Anyway, let's move on to the food. Rabbit terrine on toast to start. Meh--I've had better. Six excellent oysters with a glass of muscadet (great suggestion by our sever). Frisée salad for my companion and two grilled sardines dusted with breadcrumbs for me. Delicious. Cassoulet for entree. $18 for a small ramekin of bean stew with two slices of sausage is not a good value but this is my only complaint with the pricing in the menu. By far, the standout was a side of Savoy cabbage braised with foie gras. Meltingly smooth and delicious. Bread pudding for dessert is not my thing but companion liked it. I'll be back to see if the small kinks have been worked out (overwhelmed bartender, confusion at the hostess stand with our online reservation). Good so far, not great. read more

This place was wonderful. Came here on a Friday night date and sat outside. The ambiance was beautiful, as well as the food. We started with 6 of their "Today's oysters," and learned from our server that they are flown in fresh every day! We also had their Prime rib toast which was nice and light but full of flavor! We ended the meal by splitting an octopus galette which filled us up and we were very pleased. We also each had one of the smoothest dirty martinis ever which was just the cherry on top! I highly recommend le bouillon for a date, or nice family dinner! We will be back! read more

I am not usually one to post a review. I usually just go with the flow and form my own opinions. However, I was really disappointed in my meal last evening after I was excited to try Le Bouillon for the first time. Maybe it was an off night, but there were only 3 tables with patrons for the whole time we were there (6:30-8 PM), which perhaps was the first clue to a disappointing meal. It started out wrong since the menu that was presented is not the same dinner menu that is on their web site. The large plates offered were not as appealing or varied as those on the web site menu. (boo!) The smoked salmon rillettes appetizer was good, it was served with a generous helping of salmon rillette but with only 3 potato cakes ( 4 guests). We were told it could be easily shared by the four of us. Faced with having to eat the salmon paste with a fork, we tried to ask for more chips. Of course the waiter was no where to be found (mind you there were only 3 tables being served while we were there!). It should have been served with many more chips. I ordered the cassoulet based upon other good reviews here. it was terrible! The beans were half cooked to the point of being crunchy! I could not eat it. Maybe this is suppose to be the gourmet version of cassoulet, but there was nothing appealing about it at all. On the good side, one of our guests ordered the local trout. it was very large and looked very appetizing. The other plates, the pasta and the pork crepinette were well received by my other guests, although the portions seemed small. it also seemed like a long time for the meal to be served for so few guests present, despite the half cooked cassoulet. Fortunately we were in no hurry. It did have a nice atmosphere for conversation, but that probably was because few others were there. Maybe it just a bad night, but I will not be going back. read more

We left after the appetizer... Someone recommended this restaurant before we returned to Kansas City the next day, so we took a chance. Boy was he wrong!!! After having drinks at the packed "M", nearby, we arrived to a half empty house at 7:30 on a Saturday evening. When a restaurant is half full at the beginning of prime time there's something wrong. We should have turned around but we were starving. There were so many things wrong that evening it's hard to know where to begin. Choosing selections from the menu was more deciding what we didn't want than couldn't wait to try. Our server was mellifluous to distraction and tried the hard sell with more antic than confidence in the menu. We ordered two appetizers, a chipped ham with egg on toast and Lobster beignets. The ham toast was suitable but presented zero wow factor. The lobster beignet was more batter than lobster and on a bed of greens smothered in a dressing that was the only saving grace; a complete waste of 20.00 for me. Finally, I can't decide which was worse the, the kitchen or the service. It took a full thirty minutes for the first appetizer to arrive and another 5-10 for the second. During that time our server never stopped to explain the situation, offer some non-existent bread or take our entree order. When the hostess noticed our displeasure she kindly inquired what could be done but to us it felt more patronizing than concerned; as if there was something wrong with us rather than the place. Needless to say, I called for the check. I admit we were angry about the situation but I've never had such a lame dining experience! I think this restaurant tries hard to impress at face value but falls flat on every point. If this represents some of the best French cuisine in Old Town or Omaha, we certainly weren't impressed and won't be back. read more

Everyone here is SO friendly. We arrived minutes before the kitchen closed and they made a distinct effort to reassure us that it wasn't an issue (note: yelp says open until 11 but that's the bar; kitchen closes at 10). We had tartines, oysters, stuffed quail and my favorite item- a charred romaine salad with marcona almonds and creamy anchovy dressing. I most definitely recommend. read more

Another great night at Le Bouillon. Started as usual with a Gin and Jam, the jam was pear with fall spices, so yummy. After drinks we, there were 4 of us, shared 4 or the 5 toasts, the spring onion and rock shrimp were my favorite. The only bad part of dinner was deciding what to have, so yet again I went with two small plates and enjoyed the mussels which here in a wonderful broth that everyone dipped their bread I to and the sardines. Although the sardines whole can be challenging to eat without getting a bone they are well worth it especially when the bones come back fried, so good! The staff as always were brilliant and know just when to move in and suggest ordering times so that dinner is spaced nicely. Our guests had to leave early so I am very sad to say we were not able to enjoy dessert, maybe tonight we will sit at the bar and enjoy a drink and dessert... Spoke to the manager about brunch and he said the menu has changed a bit and I am anxious to try the new menu. read more

We went here, having heard good things and interested in a delicious, special meal at a nice place. Some of the food was good, but most wasn't memorable. The sommelier was friendly and informative. However, our server was inattentive and almost seemed mad that we didn't appear to be wealthy. Chef Paul Kulik's Pinot Noir Tasting Class was my first Le Nez du Vin, or "The Nose of Wine" master kit of the 54 aromas present in wine. These types of events tend to be either entertainment where you don't learn much; or clinical and not fun.  Kulik hit the mark with an impressive balance of both focused instructional delivery and impressive 5 flight pairing in a refined, Old Market setting.
