This was the only place we went to twice. The first time, we had the complete breakfast, and it was amazingly delicious, with a croissant, bread, freshly squeezed juice, and coffee. The second time I had the omelette complète with ham, cheese, and mushrooms, which was delicious and perfectly cooked. The service was prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere was comfortable and a place we felt comfortable lingering in. We would definitely make a point of returning on our next visit. read more

I walked in since this was literally next door to my hotel and stood around for a minute waiting to be seated. When no one said anything to me I asked a woman and she said sit anywhere so I did. I waited a little under 10 minutes before walking out because no one came to me to assist or offer a menu, etc. I'm glad I walked out because I aw the reviews after and realized I was not going to have a good experience regardless. read more

We stumbled upon this nice spot after 2 other restaurants we were planning to go to were closed, but I'm happy we found it. The server spoke a bit of English and there was an English menu which was great for my group. However, the servers were not the friendliest and the food was a bit overpriced. I got the French onion soup which I thought was delicious and super flavorful and my brother got the salmon which was not bad. One thing that was a little off-putting while we were dining was the pungent smell of cigarette smoke -- we were dining indoors so I'm not sure where the smell was coming from or how it was so strong, but it ruined an otherwise pleasant dining experience. read more

We went here twice on our trip to Paris since it was very close to our hotel. The food was delicious both times, and the service was overall good. There was a little waiting around to get our order in, but that seems to be normal here as we experienced that several times at other restaurants. The place is more or less beautiful. The attention is horrible, they are not happy, they do not respond to the order, if you ask them something they say, if they talk they take longer, and so on all the time, bad-tempered staff. It is more in my experience I would say that they were racist in the attention, since we were a group of Latinos, and other North Americans the food was good but I do not recommend it. Unless they are French, surely the care for them is different. read more

Probably not the best in Paris, but still very good. We stopped by for dinner and saw it was crowded so we came in. The service was a bit iffy at first becasue of the language barrier, but it was fine. They gave us a menu which had basically everything you would want (except crepes). We decided on two omelettes and a salad. The omelettes were big- think they had 3 eggs!- but very tasty and well cooked. The side salads were very fresh tasting and the dressing was lovely. For the purpose of this review and to avoid unnecessary typing, which still would be difficult for me, despite myself being a touch typist who can type around 100wpm, I am going to refer to Le Comptoir des Saints Pères as simply Saint Peres throughout the review, without the accent of course, writing this from an English Qwerty keyboard and not the Azerty format, used in France. Sadly on my trip to Paris, I seem to have given out many 1 star ratings, but it mainly was balanced between one and four stars and this place could possibly be the worst of them all, I'm sorry to say with poor food, decor and the rude waiter being a huge factor in this. Saint Peres is located on a side street, on a street which is actually called Saint Peres, this place is a decent size but as soon as I walked in, everything hit a big turn for the worst. The waiter who served me, spoken very basic english but he was really rude, he was rushing my order and treating my allergies as if they were nothing, I asked him about gluten free or "sans gluten" options having seen sans gluten pasta advertised and he just seemed to ignore that, I asked him "Before I order the drinks what can you do gluten free, he said I will have to wait, and took my friend's drinks order and walked off before taking mine, which was really rude. When taking my order, I asked him if the chips were gluten free and he told me they weren't and would I still like them, he just seemed really rude, when my friend's were served, they seemed fresh and I don't think the waiter had any clue what he was talking about, and just seemed really impatient. I eventually opted for a Cheese, Tomato and Pesto omelette, made with Mozzarella cheese, I was upset to find translation errors found it to be Buffala cheese, which is much I don't like and despite the name it is very different. The omelette was also dripping in the oil, and I could literally squeeze it all out, which gave a horrible greasy feel to it, and the toppings were just placed on the middle, hence nothing was inside the omelette its-self so it was very bland, this was very expensive too at over 10 euros and my orange juice cost between 5 and 6 euros, and was more expensive than my friend's bottle of cider by nearly 70 cents, which was ridiculous. Upon paying and leaving, I did not even get a thankyou or goodbye from my waiter, perhaps the fact he was annoyed that I wouldn't give him a tip, or perhaps the fact he just seemed to hate me. All the cooking was done in a small area in the back, which didn't look very nice either. This was really a horrible place, I hate to say and the quality of the food just was very poor, and I feel this place does not even deserve one star, yet I have to give this due to how Yelp works. read more

Perhaps the ample outdoor seating at the height of lunchtime should have been a key indicator. Service was slow and neglectful, even by Parisian standards. To clarify, this wasn't a leisurely meal as supported and encourage by the front of house, rather eyes-meeting-eyes-and-walking-past to accomodate locals? Regulars? Not us, though. A croque monsieur (dry) with a supplement of frites (good), and a salade de chevre (oily, wilted) left us sated if less than star-struck by a throwaway lunch in Paris. Not sure if location along a heavily walked thoroughfare is the prime motivator for passers-by to pop in for a bite, because that's definitely the sole appeal of this spot for us. One and done. Man. What a terrible place. My brother and I came here only because this was the famous restaurant - Michaud's - back in the day, where F. Scott Fitzgerald worried aloud to Hemingway about the inadequate size of his penis. Hem took him to the bathroom to examine it. Story is, he assured him it was okay. But maybe he was just saying that to give him some props. It could have been tiny. We'll never know. Either way, we came here just to see the bathroom, but we figured we had to order a meal to make that not seem really odd. I also assumed it was somewhat of a tourist attraction but I was terribly mistaken. The menu had about seven breakfast items on it. We were hungry, so we ordered two each. By POINTING at the menu and saying the items in a perfectly acceptable accent. I ordered a ham omelette and a salmon egg scramble. My brother ordered a bacon omelette and a croissant. The server - a mid-40's douche - of course pretended that he couldn't understand what we were ordering. Oh, does my finger pointing at the item have too much of an American accent? You know what I am ordering. Well, it took about 30 minutes for it to come out. Locals came in after us and ordered and immediately received their food. I'm sure just a coincidence. When our orders finally came out, here's what we got: me, a ham omelette (correct) and a bacon scramble (err, no). Brother, a bacon scramble (correct) and nothing else (err, no). The waiter sped off and refused to acknowledge us after that. So I ate my scramble and my brother did not eat his invisible croissant. It took another 25 minutes to get the bill. Come on dude. Just look at me. Look at me! I want my bill! When I finally was able to ask him - in French - for the bill, please, he still didn't bring it. It took me standing up and motioning toward the door for him to realize that he was about to receive zero euros for his service if he didn't give me the efftastic check. Lastly, there was a small piece of metal in my omelette. No biggie. Just a half inch piece of metal. In my soft omelette. We came to see a toilet, and we got what we came for. read more

A little confused about what this place is actually named? It used to be called Le Comptoir de Saints-Peres, but it seems to have switched to Le Brasserie de Saints-Peres on its sign, but still goes by Comptoir sometimes. In any case, stopped for dinner and got a Quiche Lorraine, which was fairly standard. It also came with a side salad which was surprisingly good in all its moutardey goodness. Did I just add an English suffix to the end of a French noun? Such pretend multilingual skill very wow. If your a tourist in Paris this is one great choice ! They have English menu and English waiters . The Comptoir burger is delicious ! Also people in my group got the steak and chicken and also loved it ! I will admit it's a bit expensive but then again in Paris and especially near the Louvre . My girlfriend and I ducked into this brasserie after getting caught in a torrential downpour following our Instagram quest to see Serge Gainsbourg's house. We sat down at the bar, and I decided that I wanted to have a sandwich and some fries, which I ordered. I half expected the food quality to approach that of some very immemorable, rudely staffed, and random brasseries that we had stopped into on a previous trip, but the food was delicious! I couldn't stop marveling at how good the food was. On top of that, the bartender and waiter who helped us were super friendly, and were tickled at how much we were enjoying ourselves. The worst experience we had in Paris during our entire trip. From the moment we walked in the staff was incredibly rude. We ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, croque Madame, fries, and a coffee. They brought out the ham and cheese 10 minutes before the croque madame and with prosciutto instead of ham. We never received our fries or coffee. after explaining that we had to leave and did not want them anymore they tried to charge us for them anyways. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Popped in here after class one day for a cup of coffee and cigarette and decided to move inside since the outdoor lamps left something to be desired. Did not know the Hemingway/Fitzgerald connection but I can honestly say without knowing that I loved the interior none the less. Felt very classic Paris, like it hadn't been touched in years. Very cozy and comfortable, it felt like this was a common spot for lunch by Parisians. Café Expresso was affordable, maybe 2 euros if I'm not mistaken and my BLT was amazing. The waiter was very nice, asked me what I was writing about, and was patient with my broken French. This place is a local favourite, a neighbourhood gem, just a few steps away from the tourist traps of Cafe de Flore and Les Deux Magots. Great for people watching. I've wanted to eat at this little corner cafe for about five years now, ever since I went to school in Paris, and today (10/27) I finally did. Sat at the bar and had an espresso (€1.20 -- great price for this 'hood), a nice vegetable quiche with salad (€8.90), and then fell for the tiniest lil' crème brûlée (€1.50) which they actually took back on heated up with the blowtorch even though the shallow ramekin was a tad bigger that a US quarter. The bar was a classic brass bar that had to be more than 100 years old and it felt good to have a chance to sit there and watch Parisian life float by. Definitely a good find compared to the ubiquitous €5 coffee spots in the surrounds. (Great service too and they are patient with l'anglais :) ) read more

I didn't know about the Michaud's/Hemingway/Fitzgerald connection - I just came for the jazz. Every Thursday from around 7, three sets to around 10pm. This is a perfect cool and buzzy environment in which to sit and absorb cool music. The bar is best but seats fill up fast - we even had a homeless guy in for the show - but the back tables are also good. Crammed in tight against mirrored walls, the people-watching opportunities are excellent. We didn't eat but saw many good looking meals come to tables beside us - interesting well constructed plates ordered by chic locals. We enjoyed a good bottle of house red that was well above the expected standard for a house wine. The head waiter took a fancy to us and we were so well cared for all night. Can't wait to return next Thursday - I've tried to come here for three years and now I'm on a roll! Four stars for atmosphere, ambience, decor, music, wine and service. read more
