If you're looking for more nature and traditional camping in the woods, this is not it. But if you just like being outdoors and next to all the restaurants and amenities of Tahoe City then it's awesome. Was great to be able to wake up, walk along the shore trail to enjoy the views and let the dog sniff around.

Nice campsite. A paved walking path leads to the lake, with beautiful views. The campsite is woodsy…read moreenough to feel like you're camping, but close enough to the town to enjoy local sites and eateries. (A coffee shop [Coffee Connexion] is just up the way, an easy walk in the morning.) That said, the site is very close to the road, so it's noisy, even at night. Earplugs recommended for a good night's sleep. The road quiets down considerably in the middle of the night, but that doesn't mean the occasional cargo truck won't come roaring by. The facilities are good, with restrooms and showers conveniently located. The men's restroom ran out of paper towels by Sunday evening, but was restocked by Monday afternoon. The showers cost quarters: minimum 50 cents for 5 min (although I times it twice, and it goes closer to 6 or 6 1/2 minutes). There are no lights at the site, except for at the restroom, so have flashlights or headlamps. There are bear boxes to stow food and smellies overnight and while you're away (bring a lock for when you're away). You can't wash dishes at the site spigots or the bathroom, so have an alternate dishwashing plan. The spigot provide good drinking water. Overall, nice campsite. I'd be willing to return.

Our group made hot drinks and played board games that were "home-made" by one of the yurt founders. Outside, there is an abundance of awesome backcountry skiing terrain. I have stayed at the yurt twice and will definitely be back for more trips in the years to come!

Unfortunately, most of them allow RVs and none of those RV owners can stand to be away from the use of electricity so you can count on the nearly non-stop noise of multiple generators, along with the noise of Polaris Razrs and other similar OHV/quads. Let's face it: we don't go camping to be uncomfortable. If your idea of comfort is bringing a studio apartment on wheels with air conditioning, electricity and running water -- this is the place for you. If your idea of comfort is a tent and the night stars -- you'll want to break camp before the RV people wake up and fire up their generators. It's good enough for a night or two if you have plans to go elsewhere (hiking or swimming at a different place with fewer power boats) but it's not a destination campground, per se.

My experience though was ruined by some very unclear signs which resulted in a small little pow-wow with the park attendant. Please update your signs to make it abundantly clear which places are available for drop-in and which have been taken. It said that camper information needs to be listed to show a spot is taken. Most of the spots had last names so they were obviously taken. Mine didn't and it had the little yellow circle meant for drop-ins. There was only a number listed on the card (which looked completely different than the example card at the entrance, where the instructions pretty clearly stated that customer information was listed on each claimed site). So the first come, first serve rules were very unclear. Thankfully there was still plenty of daylight left for me to pack up and find another place. To top it off, the attendant that came in had this really accusational tone. So hey buddy, if you are reading this, I'm sure you went around and insulted me to all the other campers and shared stories to your coworkers about the asshole tourist from Thursday. Maybe if you had a little better customer service, we would have talked it out. As such, you lost a customer permanently. Hope you are happy to know that I found a different spot very easily without needing your "help."

When I think of a Geology tour, that brings me back to when i took Geology 100 when we had a field…read moretrip to look at the fault line on Somerset (and I wasn't really sure what I should be looking for). Geology Tours Tahoe, feels like you're in a Jumani type of adventure with fun hands-on science learning and experience. Signing up for this I didn't know what to expect, as this is beyond my comfort zone, dealing with high terrain, and digging for crystals. But Dr. Montana Hodges made the event so fun in a way that even a non-science person like myself was really engaged. We traveled 45 minutes up a bumpy road with plenty of beverages and snacks that would have lasted a few days! Then we made it to our destination where we learned of the history of Crystal Peak, and how the Truckee river came to be and the various Prehistoric eras. There were plenty of tools to pick and choose from in a group of 7 of us. This definitely was a Sunday adventure to never forget. I was able to luckily find a crystal, so I felt accomplished. There are several tours that Montana provides that I would love to attend! She is very engaging and personable that I felt a connection to Science that I may not have had when I was taking Geology in College. It was neat to learn about Jurassic park, and how the dinosaurs were technically from a different prehistoric era than depicted.Also given the fact that Montana dedicated half of her day to take us on our high terrain excursion, and then had a long hours drive ahead of her the same day was beyond impressive! I'll definitely be looking to plan another Tour adventure and see what other learnings are in store!

But at the reservoir there was no noticeable life. It was hard mud on the side and soft mud that can swallow your shoes in the water.

Oh. My. Goodness! LOVE this place! We were looking for a clean, clear body of water less traveled…read morethan Tahoe. Our family recently got kayaks, and it's nice for the boys (both 7) to have a place without a ton of people, boaters, or obstacles to maneuver around. We took I-80 to HWY 89 North at Truckee. One left onto Jackson Meadows Rd from 89 takes you right to the reservoir, campgrounds, and boat launch. There are vault restrooms that are good for what they are. The road just after where you cross the dam is definitely bumpy - go slow. The signs to the boat launch are helpful! Launch use is $5 and there is a parking lot just up the hill from where you put your water craft in. We felt fairly accomplished (compared to when we've kayaked Tahoe, for example) because there were parts of the reservoir we could cross from one side to another. That was fun! Plenty of beach-like spots to stop and you may even come across some rocks good for jumping off! We saw plenty of wildlife including a water snake (so keep your eyes peeled!). Everyone we passed was pleasant and chatted. We also saw many types of water sports - kayaking, SUPing, water skiing, seadoos, etc.
