Finally made it here!! Expat and local friends have raved about this place for years and it's been on my To-Go list pretty early on from when I moved to Brussels, but since this place closes earlier in the evenings, I would always find it hard to get here before closing time, on those weeknights I ventured into the city. It's a bit of push and shove to be honest to get to the counter (no proper lines) but that adds to the sense of accomplishment when you finally get your order in. It's all strictly seafood and I ended up ordering the fish soup (€5 for a really good size) and an order of North Sea shrimp croquettes (€9 for 2, accompanied by salad, lemon and gorgeous Tatar sauce). Oh also don't forget to get your bread if they forget to offer it to you! My brother loved the soup and gulped it down - the tomato stock base was incredibly flavourful but it wasnt too fishy at all! Just hints of that salty sea tang and really good tender pieces of white fish mixed in with veges. Accompanying the soup was a bread with some sort of a mustard sauce and grated cheese, which really complimented the soup. But OMG - those shrimp croquettes!!! Hands down the best I have had in Brussels!! The cheese filling was just marvelous and a proper amount of North Sea gray shrimp mix was in there which added a beautiful texture. I savored every bite and while the croquettes look small, the goodness in them is so much that my tummy was absolute full and I didn't feel the need to order anything else afterwards. It sucks took me so long to finally eat here but hey, on the bright side _I_ finally did get to eat here!! Totally recommend!!

The system here is a bit hactic, but it was worth trying. The food was delicious with a bottle of wine!

I adore this place!…read more I've been to this restaurant twice now, both times with the BF and his parents. I simply love the simplicity and the freshness of the seafood! The restaurant is simply and elegantly decorated, and it is not a pretentious place. I like to order off of the chalkboard Suggestions menu, as you know it will be fresh and it is what is in season. They also have a chalkboard of Suggested/Featured wine, which are excellent too! At our most recent visit, we had the salmon tartare, tuna tartare, crab fritter and shrimp croquettes as starters. Everything was superb. I had the salmon tartare, it is mixed with ginger and soy sauce. For me, it was a bit too much soy sauce (therefore salty), but the freshness of the fish still came through and I loved it. As main, everyone took something off of the Suggestions menu, except me, I had the fish & chips. I did not realize the fish & chips would be such a big portion with two filet! This is not a typical greasy English fish & chips, rather, it was light and fluffy with just the right amount of batter and perfectly crispy. Toucan Sur Mer serves the fish & chips with a homemade tartare sauce. It was amazing! What I also love about this place is that the waiters/waitresses offer to explain the fishes to you, because the Suggestions chalkboard usually consist of fishes other than your common salmon, tuna, cod...etc. At this visit, we learned about the bonito fish :)

They're famous for their seafood paella with lobster, which is a must-try here. We skipped it since we wanted to save our full paella experience for Barcelona. I ordered the seafood spaghetti and my husband fell in love with it lol. There's something special about the sauce, so rich and flavorful. It was so good that we had to come back again before leaving the city. We also had the mussels, of course. You can't come to Brussels and not do "mussels in Brussels." The white wine sauce was amazing, and the frites that came with it were hot, fresh, and perfect for dipping. Portions are generous and everything is great for sharing. We also loved the fresh rolls they bring out at the start. The service is great! The ambiance is cozy and relaxed, perfect for a casual dinner or a special night out. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. If I'm ever back in Brussels, I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

A few Belgian friends recommended we try La Quincaillerie during our trip, so we decided to give it a shot...and thank goodness we did! It was such a fun dinner, and I, shockingly, really enjoyed the food. The space itself is quite cute, with ample indoor and outdoor seating, plus absolutely gorgeous decor. It gets pretty crowded but mostly from locals vs. the surge of tourists in central Brussels, given this spot is a little bit out of the way. The service is remarkably friendly and attentive -- often asking to clear our plates within seconds of us finishing our last bite and refilling our water cups with a shocking frequency. Food-wise, we started the meal with the burrata. The cheese was creamy and rich, and it went beautifully with the fragrant sun dried tomatoes and peppery arugula. It was also topped with a few croutons -- which were tasty and clearly house-made, but I was a little confused on how to eat them with the cheese (vs. the more classic method of putting burrata on a slice of toast) -- and a flavorful sauce. All around a great combo of flavors and textures, making it the perfect start to our meal. For our mains, my friend got their duck and I ordered the pollock. They both had pretty generous portions, especially the duck. The pollock was perfectly tender and flaky inside, with a delightfully crispy skin / herb crust on the top. It was topped with fresh herbs and served in a super flavorful sauce -- truly could not have asked for a better entree. The dish was relatively light but extremely flavorful and filling, and the fish just fell apart in my mouth. I'm not quite a French / Belgian food convert yet, but I'll happily come back here anytime.

But since we were in Brussels anyway, I figured we might as well try to get the full Belgian experience and try both mussels and beer. Le Chou de Bruxelles certainly did not disappoint -- the food was outstanding, the service impeccable, and the space delightful. The mussels were remarkably fresh and were a bit briny (as all mussels must be) but weren't overly fishy. Le Chou de Bruxelles offers a wide swath of sauces you can pair with your mussels, which is super fun; I ended up doing a more classic combo with white wine, garlic, and several herbs, but it was super tasty -- the herbs were super fresh and brightened up the overall dish, and the white wine was a lovely pairing with the shellfish. We also got their caprese salad, which was super tasty; the mozzarella was incredibly fresh and the tomato was perhaps the best tomato my friend had ever tried. It was presented in a rather entertaining way, with the tomato cut in half and hollowed out, then with the mozzarella packed inside the tomato. The service was also phenomenal and absolutely on-point. We were seated in the back of the restaurant right next to the patio door, so a few bees flew in and circled around our heads during our meal, but the staff was super friendly in helping us push the bees back outside. Vibes-wise, the restaurant is gorgeous and lively. It's a little bit out of the way from Central Brussels, so you end up with a good mix of locals and tourists. Absolutely love this spot and can't wait to come back in my next trip to Brussels!
