Hands down, Le Petit Vendome provided the best meal we had when visiting Paris. The atmosphere is great, staff are friendly and speak English, and the food is AMAZING. I highly recommend you stop by for dinner when visiting. You'll be glad you did. Now to get into the specifics. The restaurant is very tourist and English friendly. They offer English menus and the staff speaks english fluently. They were incredibly nice and accommodating, and the service was top notch. I couldn't be happier with my experience. The food was fantastic. Truly amazing french food that's not too bougie. We really enjoyed the onion soup and I highly recommend it! We also had the steak dinners and were very happy with them. I'd definitely recommend both dishes. Atmosphere at Let Petit Vendome was also fantastic. Although the tables are very close together (in true Paris fashion), they do not have their storefront open to the street which means you don't need to deal with people's smoke while you're trying to eat. This was really a plus for me since I'm American and just not accustomed to inhaling smoke everywhere. The restaurant inside is cute and well kept. I'd definitely recommend you give this place a try when in the area. It'll be worth your while and I can promise that you'll enjoy your meal! This place was a great find. I've been shocked by how early all the restaurants close in Paris-- and, they offer dinner much later than most in the area. It has a very casual vibe inside which I loved. Lots of people enjoying drinks and great conversation. Food was great- I had the onion soup. Bread was Crispy the way I like it and of course, it was covered in fromage -yum! My husband had the duck special which was really wonderful. Duck was moist and tender and fell right off the bone. The coolest part is their wine is "pay for what you drink"! Overall a great find for some late night food! We finished the meal with the pistachio creme brûlée which was just okay (and massive) Our total was €85 for nearly two bottles of wine soup, the duck dish, and creme brûlée not bad for dinner in Paris! read more

Adorable, tiny, authentic place for dinner, conveniently located near L'Olympia, so it made for a perfect pre-concert dinner. I ordered their house red wine, which was excellent and very affordable. I ordered the chicken (poulet) dish, which came with a side of fries. I did not know what I was in for -- they gave me like half a chicken! Perfectly seasoned and juicy. What a great local spot! It was a delight coming at lunch time amongst all the working folks (I assume). Space is tight, so be ready to get a bit cozy with the locals. The servers were accommodating to us non-French speaking folks. It felt like a busy diner at the peak of lunch time, so it may be a bit hard to flag down a server after you order. What we got: -Beef tartare: It was my first time trying this. Good, flavorful, although eating raw beef is still a foreign concept. The entire time, I was afraid of getting food poisoning, but thankfully we turned out A-OK. Fries were great. -French onion soup: Yummy, altho def. salty and cheesy beyond my preference. I guess that's what this soup is all about. No complaints here. -Salad: All I wanted was a plain, green, fresh salad, but that's seemingly impossible to find in Paris and not available on the menu. Instead, my salad had generous cheese slices, potatoes and pieces of prosciutto, heavily drizzled with balsamic. A bit too hearty and heavy for my taste. This place gets really busy, but the staff here speaks English. The onion soup isn't the best that I've had, but it's a decent soup. The pig's feet here is probably one of the best things I've eaten in France. There's a bunch of tendons and cartilage (which are my fav!) that just fall off the bones and if you enjoy that kind of thing I'd suggest you give it a try! My sister enjoyed her duck confit. We ventured in before 6:30 PM and there was no crowd. Within an hour the place was packed. We ordered beer, wine, meet and cheese plate, and a venison stew dish. The food was exceptional but with the crowd the service was lacking. My DH asked for a 2nd beer that never came, we had to flag down the waitress to order dinner, and we had to finally ask the bartender for a bill. I found Le Petit Vendôme through Yelp since it was located a couple blocks behind our hotel the WestinVendôme.  I was craving steak and frites and they were the highest rated within walking proximity.  No reservations and we lucked out and were seated right away.  Fun Paris fact:  Everyone dines pretty late (9pm or later for dinner) so if you don't have a reservation, restaurants can typically accommodate a party of 2 pretty easily between 7pm-8pm (which is when us Americans usually eat).   Although I much prefer Le Relais de l'Entrecote's steak, this Mom and Pop version at Le Petite Vendome still hit the spot.  Le hubs ordered a veal chop (just ok) and we shared a French Onion Soup (SO yum!!).  I hear their jambon baguette goat cheese sandwiches are BOMB so next time you're there, please get one togo for me! read more

We were looking for a cozy restaurant to have dinner and luckily came across Le Petite Vendome behind our hotel. The casual atmosphere was welcoming. Bottle of wine was affordable. Plus, our waitress spoke English well! This led to an order of their homemade pâté, a very generous serving, especially with all the bread. Then a hearty stew of simply meat, potatoes and some fresh herbs. It was delicious as is! No unnecessary celery and what not if you google any stew recipe in the States. The meal warmed us up and was quite filling. Couple days later I was reading David Levovitz blog for his favorite places in Paris and came across a post about his first ham and cheese baguette. It was from this very place! I immediately went back for the next morning and got just that. Apparently they're known for their charcuterie and sandwiches. Sadly this was one time I thought other reviews were not on point. More specifically if I was to do it all over again, skip the sit-down service, and go for the sandwiches. You will save a lot of money and probably have a better experience. I got the homemade sausage and while I'm up to speed with French cuisine this was too on the rustic side for me. But good news, the fries really are great! I also tried the duck confit and it was dry. Given this was lunch time, it would be odd that a confit would be dry. Sadly, this was the most money I spent on a meal while on this Paris visit, and it was by far my least favorite. Been in Paris for three days and FINALLY enjoyed exquisite French fare. The rump steak was 10x more tender than the ribeye I had yesterday at another "tourist" trap that somehow received 4.5 stars. My family and I went to the Louvre on Wednesday, which closes pretty late (9:45pm), so there were not a lot of open food options near the area. I remember the good reviews from this place and decided to check it out. It was a bit of a walk but we were happy to find the place packed with locals both inside and outside. A gentleman met us at the front/entrance quickly and showed us to our table inside. It's pretty tight and we had to move the tables in and out just to sit. He handed us English menus (yay!) and a few minutes later, a female server came by to take our order. We had a lovely time and never felt rushed or overlooked, since most of the crowd was hanging out outside. After carting our entire party of 10 across the Atlantic to eat these dang sandwiches we sat down only to be told that they won't serve the sandwiches at the tables. Only for takeout or at the bar. This is a must for me anytime I'm in Paris. This past July, I came here 3x in the 2 weeks I was there (no shame). To me this is the epitome of French cuisine - using simple, quality ingredients to make delicious food. The charcuterie here is so ridiculously good, terrine, pate, salami all good. Make sure to eat it with bread, butter (French butter is on a whole other level) and cornichons. I was skeptical about the cornichons because I don't like pickles but it adds a great acidity and helps cut through all the fat. Servers can speak minimal English and will tease you relentlessly for not speaking French (but all in good fun, nothing offensive) and make recommendations for you upon request. Sandwiches can be ordered to go from the bar. Don't worry, they'll be sure to tell you what meat and cheese do not go together for sandwiches. Just trust their recommendations, you can't go wrong! Tables are placed very close to each other so it makes having a private conversation difficult but this is true for most restaurants in Paris. They have some tables set up on the sidewalk where people can smoke and eat so if smoke bothers you, probably ask to be seated farther away from the street. This restaurant is one of the best I've found from a standpoint of the quality of the charcuterie, it's one of the best I've tried in Paris. The Andouille is to die for. This place looks exactly like a tourist trap because it is the restaurant that newer ones are trying their best to look like! It is tiny and crowded and you will literally rub shoulders with your neighbors, but it couldn't be more worth it. My husband and I had dinner here and loved it -- house red wine, best-ever onion soup, great pork terrine, lovely duck confit, and the BEST BEEF TARTARE OF MY LIFE. Seriously, unlike most tartares it was seasoned very delicately -- just perfect. Even though we were full, we finished off with a pistachio creme brulee that was worth overstuffing ourselves for. This sandwich shop/ brasserie is quite the unusual find in the Opéra district. I mean, it's the kind of place you expect to be run by a single family, with dad in the back cooking, mom at the counter, and the kids waiting tables. However, if you've ever been to Paris, you know that this part of town is more akin to 5th ave meets the financial district than anything else, so to find a place this homey feeling with food this good? Like I said it was unexpected, but not at all unwelcome. After walking what I truly believe was every street in Paris, we found ourselves both tired and by the Vendome. Now I'm not complaining about my walk; some of my favorite cobble stones to traverse can be found in the streets and alleys that make up Pari after all, but these jaunts do tend to leave you with the feeling that you could eat a charcuterie plate (or two). Luckily enough we found ourselves by a place I had read about, and been really wanting to try. Le Petit Vendome is known as a really good sandwich shop, and I was absolutely in the mood for thon on a baguette with a side of frites and a beer. Walking up to the quaint café, there was a bit of a line to get a sandwich (as any good shop in Paris would have), so I thought we may as well have a seat and eat in. What I was unaware of is that this restaurant does not serve sandwiches in house, they are for takeaway only, which left me almost wanting to get in line and eat by the river (like I said, this place is known as a sandwich shop after all). My tired feet and girlfriend (equally as tired) were not having that, so I settled in for a lunch at a place that is well known for its awesome sandwiches, to NOT have one. Overjoyed, I perused the menu looking for something that would take my thoughts away from my thon on bread. I saw that the special of the day was homemade sausage with potatoes and couldn't resist (I am well known for loving hot sausage in my mouth..wait no, that came out wrong). When it came I was shocked about how amazingly well made the dish was; Paris is known as an amazing place to eat, but it's remarkably easy to find bad food if you chose the wrong spot. We had been lucky so far on this trip, not striking out too bad with any place we picked for a meal, but none came close to the quality at Le Petit Vendome. It was truly one of the best meals I've had anywhere, and would absolutely recommend coming here for lunch (don't try for dinner, they close super early). The server bantered with us, we spoke to a few locals (including one portly gentleman who clearly ate here every day, which I completely understand and commend him for), and watched the world go by from an outdoor table of a French café. Honestly what could be better than that? If you find yourself hungry in Paris, and are anywhere even remotely close to this restaurant during lunch hours come here (if you get a sandwich, especially tuna, please DM how it was; my guess is outstanding). read more

This review is for the sit down portion of Le Petit Vendôme. We wanted a bar seat (so that we could order the legendary sandwich) but were told to sit at a table instead of waiting. We tried to order the sandwich that we came for but were told it was not allowed. Slight change of plans, but we needed a rest and wanted to sit so we modified the plan to just get the assorted charcuterie plate. The waiter would not allow this, and forced us to order meals. I suppose we could have got up and left at this point, but we didn't want to offend (we still might get the sandwiches to go for dinner) and could tell that the waiter had had nearly enough of this pair of difficult foreigners. Later we saw 2 different parties come in and order coffee and cheese only, what happened to "Liberté, égalité, fraternité"? We did not order wine because we were dehydrated already from a long walk in August sun, but ordered 1L sparkling water instead. Eventually this ran out and we tried to order tap water. The waiter refused and insisted we order wine so we gave in. The system is to open a full bottle but only pay for what you drink (where X is full bottle price, ~X * .75 is half bottle price, and ~X*.5 is quarter bottle price). Roughly equivalent to by-the-glass pricing with a bonus if you decide to drink more. The charcuterie plate was excellent and is served with a slab of butter that you can use with the free bread to make your own sandwiches. This was truly enough for a meal (wish we could have stopped here...) Next came the full plates: we did not get what we ordered. We asked the waiter if he was sure this was our order and he insisted, so we started eating. Thirty seconds later we hear the waiter yelling at the cook for screwing up our order. The cook offered to fix the problem but the waiter said we'd already cut the meat. Unbelievable! Does he think we cannot understand? Despite the terrible service, the food was OK (I ended up with steak with pepper sauce, my wife got andouillette). We could only finish 1/2 and asked for the bill. The waiter made a comment about how we ate so much we'd need to nap. Why was it we ordered so much to begin with, monsieur? The bill arrived and we were charged for the more expensive plates which we did not order. At this point I really wish I knew enough French to argue with this waiter over the bill, the service, the silly rules, the inconsistencies... Arghhh! Instead I choose to not make a scene: arguing over this would just make me more upset and embarrass my wife and upset other diners. Consider this my rant, and I'll write off the 60 euro meal that should have been 15 as a learning experience. Rules (insofar as I can surmise, these may be limited to foreigners): Sandwich may only be ordered at the bar, or to go. There is no waiting for a bar seat. If sitting at a table you must order wine. If sitting at a table you must order full plates. If the kitchen screws up your order, you must accept the wrong dish and pay for it. If you decide to go here: know and accept the rules, don't compromise your plans, get your food, and escape as soon as possible. read more

And on our third day we found Le Petit Vendome. Thank goodness. We had fallen into a few not so spectacular meals on the days prior but this place? Melt in your mouth, heavenly delicious, you want to return day after day type of food. My boyfriend and I took Paris by storm. We walked as much as our bodies could handle and that built up quite the appetite most days. By late afternoon, we were ravenous and needed food but we were just north of the Tuileries Garden. Shopping district with an eye on high fashion and big wallets. What on earth would we find there? Thankfully, my main man remembered seeing this and checked his bookmarks. We arrived and took the last outside table. It was right next to a very large gentleman that clearly loved the food enough to hang out, slowly drinking a bottle of wine, eating course after course of food (he had a giant cheese and meat plate, soup then main course all in the time we were enjoying our meal. All looked delicious by the way). Our amazingly friendly, barely english speaking server informed us that sandwiches were only available for take away so we had to buckle down for a meal instead. I needed to have a good steak frites. I had been so disappointed the night prior. Fatty grey cut with frozen french fries? Unacceptable. By then this plate came out. Medium rare means medium rare. The outside was a beautiful brown while the center was still deliciously red and juicy. The fries were freshly cut from real potatoes. everything was seasoned simply and magnificently. From first bite to the last, I was completely enthralled with my meal. The guy was adventurous and ordered the special. Sausage of unknown animal and mashed potatoes. Turns out it was pork and it was amazing. We ended our meal with a coffee and relaxed watching the world go by. After a very busy morning wandering around the city, lunch was perfect. I strongly recommend heading here for food while in Paris. Everything I saw looked amazing and like it was a recipe that has been cooked for decades. The first time we came here was because I yelped around for onion soup and people raved about it here. We stayed nearby at the Intercontinental so this was a short walk and a good area, so I felt safe. They stay open pretty late for the area. For dinner we shared a charcuterie board, onion soup, a little basket of bread and all the red wine. The charcuterie board was huge and took up almost the entire table - with the soup and all this we really didn't need to order anything else. The soup was delicious- perfectly cheesy and in a little crock so it stayed hot for a while. We noticed the lunch menu and decided we should come back and try it. The lunch line will go out into the sidewalk and street- you choose your meats and cheese and get a baguette slathered with butter and your choices. It's 6 euros for 2 sandwiches. We would stop by here on the way to go sight seeing or to a museum and just munch on the sandwiches when we got hungry. It's very basic but the ingredients are quality. Our last meal in Paris was here and if it weren't for it's location to the Hyatt we were staying, the cold rain and wind I would never go back again. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the French onion soup and the ribeye steak (entrecote) cooked medium rare. They brought us the soup it was very watery and very little cheese, I was expecting a nice cheesy crust and a flavorful soup. This was the third one I had in Paris and of the three my least favorite. That's not the end the steak came back rare like literally looked like it was on the pan for like a minute each side. There was no sear on either side of the steak and it was really red. I called over the waiter and he looked at the steak and knew exactly what I was going to say before I said anything. After a steak goes back it's never the same... But the fries were good about the only thing good about the meal. The check came it was charged wrong they added the next table over's dessert on ours. The whole experience was wack. Luckily we ate at many good restaurants that our food tour of Paris was still amazing! read more
