My wife didn't like the steak and they changed it immediately. escargot - absolutely delicious, had it for all 3 nights onion soup - light and fresh and flavorful, not so salty Egg with mayonnaise sauce - really is just that, boiled eggs with mayo and salad. Will not repeat, nothing special Confit de Canard - delicious duck meat. sauce might be too seat for some, but overall excellent faux filet - my wife asked for well done, but it was overcooked and way too char tasted. Service immediately took it back and asked if she like something else. Boeuf Bourguinon - meat is excellent, sauce is great flavor, but maybe a little too salty. cassoulet - to die for. Will highly recommend this dish to anyone Onglet a E'chalotte - My wife got this after she send the faux steak back. I don't know if they did it wrong but the beef ain't thinly sliced at all. But the food and sauce are all excellent. Steak Tartare - the meat is fresh and tasted well, but not seasoned much. The Relais Gascon is a little restaurant that is so welcoming and delicious! Mahmoud (I think is the owner) was so funny and sweet and really made my friend and I's day. We wanted to try escargot but we didn't want to waste any and we asked if we could get a smaller portion. With no hesitation Mahmoud said he would give us 3 escargots for free with complimentary wine. He didn't have to do that, but he definitely made our Paris trip much better. The escargots were amazing and my steak was incredible. My friend got a salad and the portion was huge and she said she really enjoyed it. It's lunchtime in New York, seven hours away, and hi, I am writing a review for The Salad Place (how anyone who ever eat here will refer to it). I used to live on the other side of the hill and my walk to Le Relais Gascon would be the warm-up to The Salad. Get the Gascon, which like all "salads" (using word loosely) here, come in a ceramic flat-bottomed epic bowl: 1/3 crunchy greens tossed with dressing with 2/3 layer of garlic potatoes, interspersed with liver pâte, thin slices of smoked duck breast, gésiers (which I'll leave in French because it just sounds better). The garlic potatoes, traditionally fried in duck fat to a golden crisp (pommes sarlardaise, from the Southwest of France) is tied with aligot to what I think God intended us to do with potatoes-- yeah, here, they've not always been fried to my ideal crunch, and it'll get a bit soggy at the end due to the dressing, and ok, there may be like a scoop too much. But still? Sit on the terrace, order a glass of red if you want, stack a slice of garlic potato, then laitue (lettuce), then a duck-y thing on the tines of the fork-- and yes, there is still magic in Paris. Service is ok, no one's gonna be your best friend; if you sit outside, you may be serenaded or asked for change. Someone's had the confit here; I've pulled my hem over the unsnapped button on my jeans and had desserts a couple times, probably once with that person who got the confit. But, really. You know what to order. If you don't have a hill, there's the possibility that the elevators at Abbesses may be out of order. 200+ steps! read more

Le Relais Gascon was right around the corner from our little apartment in Montmartre. We did not get their signature dish, a "giant salad", topped with crispy garlic potatoes. It will have to wait for our return trip to Paris. What we did have: foie gras, steak with Bearnaise, cassoulet, a pot of house wine, lemon tart and an ice cream sundae. All amazing, huge, warm and savory. We sat upstairs in a cramped but adorably noisy room, and our server even spoke some English, which was welcomed at the end of a long week of my butchered French. Some good people watching, excellent value and well located for your return down the hill after a visit to Sacre Coeur. I visited after trying to cheekily squeeze into Le Potager du Pere Thierry which was packed at 11pm with 3 people still waiting for a table. Luckily Relais Gascon was a little quieter and we had no trouble walking right in. Service was fast and portions were huge. The highlight was of course the potatoes which are served as a side to many main dishes as well as a topping for the salads. The food itself is not much to write home about but for sheer value this place deserves an honourable mention. My boeuf bourguignon was generous and well cooked but I felt my wife's salad could have done with a little less mayo based dressing. Nevertheless it was a very filling and cheap meal in a great location. Outdoor seats had overhead heaters and it made for a very romantic evening. read more

My friend and I went here on the weekend. Because their weekend prix fixe formule is like 10 euros more expensive than their weekday one, we stuck with the salades geantes. Giant salads for €12,50. And these were indeed huge. I could finish mine by myself; but if you don't eat too much, you could probably split one between two people. The salads have a bottom bed of crisp leaves with a white house dressing, various other ingredients depending on the specific one you order, and are topped off with fried garlic potatoes. The potatoes are yummy, though not very crunchy (though I guess they aren't supposed to be). The salad I ordered had smoked salmon, creme fraiche, olives and tomatoes. I had asked for not too much creme fraiche, but I could tell this comment was disregarded when the waitress told the kitchen my order. Had I known the lettuce would be already tossed in (a really good) dressing, I would have nixed the creme fraiche altogether. Also, there were two olives and probably two tomato slices. Overall, the salad was yummy. My friend's salad was something with chicken breast and emmental cheese. The cheese was okay. The chicken breast had great texture but was farmy in taste. So it probably wasn't marinaded too much. Conclusion: The salads were good and definitely worth trying, but they weren't outstanding. The individual ingredients by themselves probably would not be that interesting. Dressing is yummy. The restaurant also has delicious bread. I wonder if the bread comes from Au Levain d'Antan next door, but probably not. HOWEVER. Something I noticed with the bread... When the bread basket on the table next to me fell on the ground, the waitress picked up the fallen bread and took it over to the table at kitchen doorway where they cut bread. And I'm pretty sure they just gave that bread to another table. Also, when we finished eating, they also took our leftover bread and took it to that table. I certainly hope I'm not accusing them of doing something they really aren't doing... but just keep an eye out for that. Other notes: - Small, but clean, bathroom upstairs. - Casual/warm ambiance. - This place is fairly popular and can completely fill up at meal times. - Construction going on, so the storefront could be easy to miss. read more

In fact there are two locations in the Monmartre area both serving the same dishes. This was our last day after a week-long visit in Paris, and having over-indulged in rich food and wine over the course of the week, I settled on the Salade Gascon hoping for something light and healthy. Ironically, the salad came in a large wooden bowl drenched in a thick, garlic dressing, with generous slices of smoked duck and a large slab of foie gras (which unfortunately lacked flavour). The whole bowl is then topped with fried potato slices. Not the healthiest salad I've had, but it was certainly tasty. My other half had the Boeuf Bourguignon and it was melt-in-the-mouth taste of France. Food is great, atmosphere is nice, the menus (although laminated and looks a little tacky) are available in English, and staff very friendly. read more

We were one our way to Moulin Rouge, when we saw how expensive it was, so we opted to stroll Paris and we came across Le Relais Gascon, saw there was a small table and a couple of comfy looking chairs, so we decided to stop and order us some late night snacks - which for me was escargot (SO good here) and what she thought was going to be a small salad, it was not. It was HUGE! this was before Yelp had reached Paris, so we weren't aware of the extra helping of potatoes atop her salad, which actually really worked for some reason, you know if you add butter and sauté anything, put it on a plate, people will eat it. The food was alright, nothing to write home about....but the HUGE portions were a bit off-putting, if I'm honest. Just too much bloody food. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the WORLD! I crave their salads on a constant basis and always dream of opening a place just like in NY but then decide not to because it would take away my excuse to crave theirs! These are not healthy salads, but they are monsters (in size) and they are delicious and the layer of fried potatoes are AMAZING!! Whenever I visit paris, I come here almost every day! I've had almost every salad on the menu but I always come back for the salade du chef. I've also had some of the entrees on the menu and they've been fine, but the salads are the star on the menu! I really like their salads. They are full of vegetables and the best potatoes ever! Their size is enormous and I haven't been able to finish my salad every time I had one. I have also tries some of their other dishes such as boeuf bourguignon, duck and cassoulet. These are tasty as well but I prefer the salads. The restaurant is cosy. Why order anything other than potato-topped salad? Seriously, all the reviews for anything else here are pretty bad, so really please do yourself a favour and stick with the salad menu. Now that you're focussed on the right area, make a note that only one of the 10 or so are actually vegetarian (helpfully labelled "vegetarienne"). Menu is both English and French, so you should have no problem figuring it out. You can add egg or cheese, which might mix well with the potatoes, but that's your call. The house red wine is relatively cheap but will burn a bit of a hole down your pipe, so it might be worth the extra euro to get the next step up. According to my carnivorous friends, the meaty salads are pretty good, especially the one with bacon. The green bit of the salad is a bit above your standard steakhouse salad in the US. It's bright green leaves (rather than iceberg, thank goodness), and the veg one has pickled beets, corn from a can, grated carrot, olives, etc. It's not "farm fresh" or anything like that, but is tasty enough, and the potatoes are really darn fine. Honestly, this place is a tourist trap in tourist central, but there is something delicious about a salad topped with fried potatoes, and every once in a while it hits the spot. We both thought of it after a weekend of hidden gems, and that'll probably do for a couple years. If you're still hungry after giant salad topped with potato, the mousse is supposed to be decent. If someone tells you this is one of the best meals they've ever eaten, beware of the rest of their reviews, because they have presumably mostly been eating at Chili's or Bennigans and don't know any better... Doesn't take credit cards, but is open 7 days a week, which is rare in Paris. read more

Huge tasty south west salads open till the middle of the night? what more could you want? This is place is a dream for all the slightly inebriated and completely starving night owls. The prices are very reasonable and even if the menu is - in my humble opinion - slightly limited, you'll realize that you keep on coming back since that it's way much better than mcdonald's or Kebabs which are its only competition late at night. I have a Toucan Sam "follow your nose" reaction whenever I'm in Le Relais Gascon's neighbourhood. Those garlic potatoes might be the best smell in the world. I have to echo some of the other reviews - this unpretentious little place is one of my favourite restaurants in the world, and I make sure to bring friends here when they visit Paris (especially Paris newbies). Big, hearty, rustic salads that can please even the pickiest of eaters - perfect. Word of warning, the servers generally don't speak English (although there are lucky exceptions). But brushing up on your high school French will be rewarded with some fantastic food. read more

My husband and I were in town for our anniversary and decided to get tickets to the Moulin Rouge. We didn't want to have dinner at the show, but rather wanted to immerse ourselves in the culture a bit before we went to the show. My husband looked up restaurants and this one had great reviews for some awesome salads. He got the Gascon Salad and I got the one with eggs, bacon and potatoes from the waiter's recommendation. It started raining and we were right next to the opened windows. It was a lovely dinner just overlooking the outside people going about their business. The salads and the deserts were great. My wife went to this restaurant based on other Yelp reviews. The service was great and so was the food. Baguettes were fresh. And we also ordered a very delicious Onion soup, Duck Confit, and Beef Brochet. The beef was a bit chewy for my taste (medium), but overall everything tastes pretty good. For dessert we got a chocolate moose and pistachio tiramisu. Both were delicious, even though tiramisu was made of a heavy whipped cream and fresh pistachio. read more

Worst service ever, visited the one on Rue de Absesse because of a Lonely Planet Guide. Had Confit de Canard with the haricots verts (green beans) which must have been fresh out of the freezer and straight to the mighty boiling fountains aka the pot. Served on the side were some okay chips and, what's called "salad" was two tiny pieces of romaine salad (which haven't been washed, tasted like they been stomped on by a dirty shoe). The duck was fine! But the waiter, a Madame acted so rude that we didn't felt welcome at ANY second of the visit. I'm surprised that she didn't yell: "F*** you" when we wished her a good evening. If there will ever be another time that I visit this circus, I hope the owner will hire a monkey with a funny hat, because that animal will most definently provide a better service. Amazing food. The onion soup with cheese was delicious, I was afraid that it has filled me up but once the grilled salmon came out and I tasted it I was instantly hungry again. The sauce was almost like Thai yellow curry, and the salmon was cooked so well it fell apart in my mouth. I found the potato's to be similar to potato chips but slightly softer and thicker, they were very tasty and an excellent side. For desert I had the creme brûlée, prepared excellently which a crispy top and cool vanilla creme. My absolute favorite desert. The owner Marco was so kind and talkative. I felt absolutely welcomed and among friends. He really upped the experience from a good restaurant to a great restaurant that I will certainly visit if I ever get the chance again! read more
