This is where I'd take visitors when I lived in Paris. Their gigantic salads are to die for. The staff will give you the quintessentially French treatment -- you will be told you cannot share plates with another person, if you can't finish your food and they hear you speaking English they will snobbily and sneeringly tell you "You can have a doggie bag, is that how you say?" and you may have to ask more than once for a carafe d'eau or l'addition...but they're not the worst in town and the food+atmosphere hit the spot. read more

I came here for dinner on my last night in Paris. I was staying just around the corner at Hotel Des Arts and the guy that works at the hotel recommended the place for good casual food. I loved my meal. I ordered ther pre-fixe menu for ~26E and had escargo, duck confit, and a cheese plate for dessert. By the time the cheese plate came, I was stuffed, and only tried a small bite of each cheese. Everything tasted fantastic and the duck was the best I've ever had. It was soft, juicy, with crisp skin, all at the same time. The potato crisps (which I've also seen in their salads) were yummy. The portions were big, I wish they were a bit less so, that way I wouldn't feel so guilty leaving most of the cheese plate intact. I had a 1/2 liter of chardonnay, which was good. The service was ok, so I have to take one star down for that. The staff were very friendly and spoke Engish to me with no problems. But towards the end of the night, I had to ask for my coffee twice. Also, I did ask for the bill, and after a while when it didn't come and it was getting pretty late, I walked in inside to pay. There was an entertaining aspect of dining outside. There was a couple next to me, enjoying their salads. Then a very weird blonde lady with a guitar came along and asked if they wanted to hear some music. They said no. She kept muttering under her breath, seemingly very upset that they didn't want to hear her sing. She then proceeded to sing anyway. They got extremely uncomfortable, I could see them trying to avoid making eye contact with her. They refused to give her anything. When she continued singing, they tried to finish their salads as fast as possible and left abruptly. It was comedy! I actually gave the lady a couple of Euros, why not, the whole situation was pretty funny and I enjoyed her performance a la Phoebe Buffay from Friends :-) "Smelly cat, smelly cat...what are they feeding you?" I came here with my sister to eat the ginormous salads, and yes - they were huuuge. I couldn't finish mine, and to be honest, they weren't that good. The best thing was the garlic potatoes and you get them with almost every meal so if I come back, I'll go for a steak with potatoes instead. We had a nightmare experience here our last day in Paris. We went there after reading the positive reviews. I ordered the Roquefort salad with ham. It was large as many have noted. Nothing remarkable about the taste. My wife ordered a steak with Roquefort that came with a pile of dry noodles and a lettuce salad. The steak was not edible. It could not be cut and was extremely cordy. On top of everything else, besides advertising they accepted credit cards, they informed us after the meal that they would accept only Euros. if you want a salad but mostly want to eat a lot of meat and carbs, THIS IS THE SPOT. the salads are HUGE and crazy heavy, so this is not a spot for a vegan person on a diet. the garlic fries that top the salad are really the star of the show. Wow, I miss this place so much. On my recent trip to Paris, I stumbled upon this place while touring Montmartre. I already had eaten some treats from a bakery nearby but when I saw someone eating this salad that was overflowing with garlic potatoes, I knew I had to go in. The salad was HUGE. I chose the salad with the egg, bacon, lettuce, potato, etc. All their salads come with these potatoes on top which is just genius. The egg was gooey and would soak with the potatoes and the potatoes had the most delicious flavor. You can definitely share this salad between two people. I also sampled the grilled salmon which was also truly delicious. It had the grill marks on it which made it taste great and it came with some tasty pasta. When I am back in Paris, I will be sure to make another visit!! read more

Nice little restaurant in Montmartre that stays open past midnight. Salads are seriously gigantic and contain more garlic potatoes than greens. I ordered the gascon salad which included slices of smoked and cured duck meat (very similar to prosciutto), some type of lettuce drenched in a ranch-like dressing, foie gras on toast, and of course, lots of potatoes. Don't be fooled by the the word "salad" as the salads here are neither light nor healthy.The richness of the foie gras, the layer of fat on the smoked duck, the large quantity of potatoes, and the amount of creamy dressing makes this quite a heavy dish. Good, but I would have preferred less dressing as everything became a soggy mush pot towards the end. Their onion soup is excellent-best I've had. Broth is tasty but not too salty and there's just the right amount of cheese on top. The duck confit dish is a tad on the salty side but still worth a try. Le relais gascon was in a nice little area near the sacred coeur church in montmartre. Our waitress was very nice. I had the duck plate and I thought that it was pretty good considering it was my first time ever having duck. I've heard duck can be gross if prepared wrong but this was really good. The service was alright too. Overall decent place to eat with no major complaints. My wife wasn't very pleased with her pasta, however, and we asked for garlic bread and they never brought it out. We went here our first night in Paris for a quick bite after a long train ride. My husband got the escargot which was very good, but not the best we had on the trip. I had a salad, and while I can see the interest, it just wasn't for me. The potato's though good at first were soggy in the dressing after a short while. The salad was also missing the chicken it was supposed to come with. I ate maybe a quarter of it, and just couldn't manage anymore. Overall not bad especially considering the price, but there are a lot of good options in this area. If I went again I would try an entree instead of salad. read more

This place has medium grade food for a medium rate price. As others have mentioned, the potatoes on the salad are probably the best part. In attempt to paint the picture a little better, I'm pretty sure there was a middle school birthday party happening there while we ate. We really enjoyed our meal here. It was a bit busy and noisy, but the restaurant had a great choice of local cuisine and some great French dishes. I had the Margret Duck which was cooked very well, melted in your mouth and with the fig sauce had a sweet and very well complemented taste to the tender duck. This restaurant came recommended by our walking tour guide as my husband and I were staying in the Montmartre area. We sat down one afternoon for a late lunch and were seated right away. Our tour guide said Le Relais Gascon was known for their large salads with thinly sliced fried potatos with garlic (think soft potato chips), and she wasn't kidding. My eyes bulged as my husband's salade du bernais arrived. I ordered the onion soap and tagliatelles carbonara myself as I was in the mood for some pasta. The carbonara was not authentic Italian carbonara as they used actual cream sauce and bacon. There was a raw egg yolk on top which when mixed in with the pasta created even more of a nice velvety texture to the dish. I notice this is the way pasta carbonara seems to be done in France so maybe this is just their version. It was good nonetheless and satiated my carb craving. The onion soup was absolutely delicious. The beef broth was rich and surprisingly thick, almost like a thin gravy consistency. The gruyere cheese tasted strong and sharp. One of the best onion soups I've had. My husband and I both had leftovers to take home. I would have loved to come back and try the steak tartare, but unfortunately we never got the chance. Overall a good meal and fair value considering how large the portions were. read more

I stayed right up the street from this restaurant. My parents and I visited this restaurant several times in the span of a week. The manager Marco is VERY nice, he invited us for free drinks while we waited for our table. The food was amazing and prices were cheap compared to other restaurants. After our trek up the stairs to the dome of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre (this trip was definitely worth it if you are in the area! Beautiful views of Paris), we were looking for a hearty meal. We asked a local in the area for food suggestions, and he said Le Mascot and Le Relais Gascon. This was the one we saw first, so we ended up here! People have been talking about the amazing salads, and unfortunately, we did not get that. Instead, we got the plate meal (appetizer of pate and bread; the main dish of steak; and dessert of banana split - which was one of the more expensive combinations so we were trying to get our money's worth with the combo haha) as well as an entree of lamb. The food is traditional Southwest France fare, and it was very hearty. The meat was a bit tough, but the potatoes were delicious and we could not finish it! Service was a bit slow, but overall, it was a nice experience. The waitress was kind but a bit distracted, and there were a couple of street performers who played guitar and sang for entertainment. Portions are very large, staff is great and prices are reasonable. We stayed nearby and went to Le Relais Gascon three times within a week. Our waiter was even kind enough to warn my fiancée about getting one particular meal since it wasn't the same in France as it is in America. Most waiters speak English, or enough to understand, but if you don't speak any French, I would not suggest going. Great atmosphere and not too touristy. The waiters also speak a little English, so you can ask for an explanation of some of the dishes if unsure. The salads here are amazing. They are HUGE and come with lots of potatoes on top - not good for those on a diet! You can order just a main or get a 'menu' which has an entree, main and dessert. They also do great cocktails (though these are a little pricey). They have seating upstairs (where the bathrooms are) or downstairs (where the kitchens are). You get served very quickly regardless where you sit. The waiters are also very impressive at carrying 4 or 5 plates up the very narrow steep staircase between the first floor and second. The restaurant is at the top of a steep hill, so you have a chance to walk off some of the food after dinner :) read more
