I took her advice and booked an appointment for the following day. I walked in and was immediately greeted and asked to wash my hands. I did so and then signed in. I have been to several nail salons in the KC metro area and this one so far was the best one! I had trouble deciding on the color so Bryan, my nail tech, helped me decide on a color. I loved it. Come to find out, it was the nail color choice of the First Lady-- pretty cool, right? =). He was very gentle in clipping my cuticles, which I really appreciated. Other places I've been to I just kept telling myself, "Beauty is pain!" And I am sure, many other women can attest to the bleeding cuticles upon trimming! I showed Bryan a few examples of what I wanted my nails to look like from Pinterest. Instead of getting intimidated, he was like, "Yeah, I've done that before. Let's do it." He did a great job on the design. I was very happy. My accented ring finger was done in a gold sparkle ombré and he nailed it. No pun intended. ;-) Two other fingers were accented with matching gold stripes. It turned out to be unique and I was very pleased. Aside from all of that, Bryan was pleasant to chat with. I'm secure enough in my masculinity to make this statement: the pedicures are awesome and relaxing. :) Seriously, it's time for men to realize it's okay to get pampered like you women do. The basic pedi here is great. They take great care of your nails and feet, cleaning cuticles and scrubbing your heals, toes & overall all of your feet. Several scrubs and massages get your feet and calves feeling loosened up and feeling great! The chairs are massagers so you feel like a million dollars once the experience is over, and they don't rush you out of the chair for the next client either. Staff is professional and very nice. I've gone here twice. Both times ending up with the same nail tech. I asked for almond but it's very clear he's doesn't know how to do it well. Both times they were not straight, having the end leaning instead of centered. Also, the shape differed from one nail to the next. Some were thin and pointed, some where more wide and rounded. The first time I just accepted it. After he finished adding the acrylic, there was a huge wad under my nail. I pointed it out to him and he adjusted it a little bit but there was still a large piece there and it was irritating for the next two weeks. I went back yesterday and had the same issue with the nail shape. I let him know how I felt about them and another nail tech stepped in and adjusted them. That made them look worse. They told me that for the shape I wanted, the nails need to be longer. I never told the nail tech to make them that short. Their solution was to take them off and replace the tips. I was on a time crunch and didn't have time to start over - considering they were 15 mins late getting me seated. I don't think I can give them another chance. read more

I go to Le Reve fairly frequently for gel manicures, as my office is nearby. They generally do an okay job and the staff is typically pretty friendly. I went today and the nail technician, an older man, immediately told me I had uneven nails and I should do a dip set instead, after barely even looking at my nails. There's really no need to criticize someone's nails in a nail salon. I obviously know they could look better, which is why I went to a nail salon. After he finished my gel manicure, he again told me I had poor nail health and that I should "upgrade" to dip next time. He actually told me "Do you have a honey? You want to look nice for your honey." It made me feel uncomfortable and his sales tactics made it seem like he was trying to shame me into a more expensive service. It's a convenient location, but it's unfortunate they feel the need to criticize their customers. read more

She left me with mere slivers of nail on my toes. One was cut so low, I bled a little and it hurt. I showed my bf my toes and he said "are they that stingy with nail polish?" If you read any of my nail reviews, you know that I have been on a hopeless quest to find a decent nail salon in KC. I had heard a couple good things about this place and I even bought a gift certificate here once. I called and made an appointment and went in the middle of the week. I arrived and there were 2 other customers. They take off the old gel polish with the soaking in the bowl method instead of cotton balls....not the best method, but I still hope for the best. I spot a huge basket of nail color chips (already painted on fake nails). I could not believe how many colors they had available to me! I chose one that I had never heard of before, so I wasn't even sure what brands they offered. After I chose the color, my nail tech looked up the "recipe." Later I would learn that these were not single colors, but mixes of 2-3 colors. After I had soaked in the polish remover the nail tech started scraping off my polish...........ready for it......................with her own fingernail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was sitting there stunned until I finally said, "do you always scrape off polish with your fingernail?" She say's, "yeah, why, am I hurting you?" I said, "no, but do you think that might be unprofessional?" She says nothing. I found it hard to concentrate on the rest of the experience, but I remember looking at my color "mix" which was not the grey I originally chose, but now a burgundy. Apparently these recipes can really go any direction and it did. My nail tech didn't like me pointing that out either because she hid in the back room while an older lady finished my mani. This place is bad. The gal did a sloppy job with my manicure. She filed my nails unevenly, didn't paint my entire nail and failed to clean around the edges where nail polish had gotten on my finger. To top it off, she used so much nail polish that it still hasn't fully dried and its been 3 hours causing my color to chip and smear. I just moved here from LA so I hope this isn't a KC trend of crappy overpriced nail salons. Will NOT be back ever. read more

Bad service. First the lady brought out the wrong color and tried to convince me it was the one I chose. I had to ask her to look again and she ended up finding the right one. She rushed the entire time and painted over my cuticles and when I asked her to fix it she said it didn't look that bad. Finally she asked me how I was paying. I told her card, and she said, "do you have cash for tip?" I said "no." And she said "well how about check?" Nope. She said "well how much are you going to tip so I can add it to the card?!" Wow.. This place is my go to nail salon, they are nice, clean and work hard to get you in and out. They have a lot of color to choose from and will even suggestion colors for you if you ask. They only down side is they do prefer tips in cash so much so they even have an ATM on site. So be prepared make an appointment and bring cash here. So, the polish looks good and everyone was very nice. However I'm really bummed and disgusted by my pedicure. I asked for a gel pedicure and paid $45 before tip. The woman doing my pedicure WAS DOING ANOTHER WOMANS PEDICURE (THAT I DIDN'T KNOW) AT THE SAME TIME. The manicurist walked back and forth across 4 chairs to the other woman the whole time. She didn't do a scrub and put a ton of lotion on my legs and just wiped it off instead of rubbing it in. She wasn't washing her hands in between and while the other woman looked nice it just kind of grossed me out. The water was cold before the pedicure was over AND the woman punched the heel of one of my feet a couple times, which I have never experienced before. I'll definitely never go back. I would have definitely waited to have a pedicure one on one, instead of a strange unhygienic group pedicure. read more

I have been going to La Reve here and there for the past 4 years. I don't go all the time as it's about 30 minutes from where I live. I absolutely love this place. All of the employees are so sweet and everyone that has touched my nails has done a great job. This is where I got my manicure and pedicure before my wedding. Based on the previous review, it all goes back to expectations. I should note that I work in the beauty industry. This means that I have gotten plenty of high-end, high-priced, very professional services done at salon & day spas. If that is what your expectation is, then there are plenty of great salon & day spas in the area. I always love coming in here and getting a mani and a pedi when I'm in town. They do a great gel nail and they are super fast and clean. On a Saturday, I reccomend going mid-day when they are less busy, like between 2-5 (and even then they can still be pretty busy). They give you a bottle of water with your service usually, but if they don't feel free to ask for one. The nail techs are attentive, polite, and well-trained. You can't go wrong here. Oh, and you can always hit up the sushi joint down the road for sushi happy hour after your mani/pedi--- is there any better day than nails/sushi?! I have been on the quest for the perfect nail salon for quite some time now. The first experience I had at La Reve was a good one. So good that I was excited to go back and for this to be my new "favorite" place. Unfortunately, I have just returned from having the most pedestrian pedicure ever, but the roughest nail tech in the history of ever. This pedi looks like the kids' pedi I get for my nine-year-old twins. She literally zoomed through, barely trimmed my nails, even though I specifically asked her to, and slapped paint on them. I was actually there to get a manicure too but since the pedi was so horrific I decided to save my mani for yet another salon on yet another day. Again, I had a great first experience, but if it can't be repeated time and time again, it's not worth it to me to drive across town from my Brookside neighborhood for it. They also offer fun & trendy nail art, not the crazy outdated stuff you see in nail salons in the mall. I highly recommend La Reve. I had an appointment set up to get my nails done, giving the shop the benefit of the doubt. Assuming that they knew what they were doing, to my surprise I was met with an utter disappointment of a result. I had requested coffin shaped nails and to slim down the shape, and the nail tech that was working on me, had abruptly interrupted me saying that he can't do it. I was rushed and didn't care about what I had to say or what I had requested, as he constantly looked at the time rather than putting the care into my appointment. I was met with unsatisfactory results, given that as soon as the gel was hardened and dried, he said "Bye" and told me to go pay. I had the absolute worst experience with the male nail tech with a tattoo sleeve, rudely listening to his AirPods as he was doing my nails. This experience was the worst I've had and will not be coming back unless met with satisfactory results. After this horrendous appointment, I immediately went to my usual shop, to get my nails redone. Even to the nail techs surprise at my usual shop, looked in utter disappointment as they were confused, and appalled with what I had brought upon them. read more

My mom and I live in Lawrence and were in Leavenworth with some time to kill. We stopped by Le Reve for a pedecure without any goal. The service was incredible, everyone there was beyond friendly, there was no wait for a walk-in and thirty minutes before close they were still eager to make an effort. The establishment is clean, follows all the health codes I'm aware of and was very relaxing. My toes have genuinely never looked better, both me and my mom have strangely short toenails that usually can't be painted and they made them look like a normal foot. I recommend this salon if you want wonderful service and a kind, relaxing environment. read more
