I've entered into a sad state in my beautification routine as a female... my nail salon on the Plaza has officially closed and although there's a new one opening up right up from it, it's not the same people.... I "yelped" around where I was driving last night and this little hidden gem popped up on the radar. I walked in around 6:00 looking for a polish change and a pedicure. Walked out with smooth feet and pretty nails/toes. Not a huge "spa experience" but I enjoyed that it was peaceful and although their weren't many polishes to choose from, I found a pretty red to match the fingers/toes. I like Nail Spa 39, but then again I'm not super picky about where I get my nails done. This place is not high-end and half the time I'm here there are kids watching tv in the waiting area, but I'm fine with that. The decor is also pretty whatever... a vase here, a fake plant there. I've always been happy with their nail services here. I've had pedicures, acrylics, and just recently I had UV gel polish applied. The UV polish is affordable at $28 for a solid color or $33 for a french manicure. A regular mani/pedi combo is $30 all together. The gals here are nice and can take a walk-in or you can call ahead for an appointment. I haven't gotten that "I think they're talking about me in their language" feeling here, and they are all business-like and friendly. read more

This is the worst experience i've had at any nail salon. The lady that was doing my nails rushed them so they look horrible, i asked her to fix several things very nicely and calm and she never did, my gel polish looks like a little kid could've done better, my shape isn't clean and the acrylic wasn't applied right, she never cleaned up my cuticles she just strait up put the acrylic on. I got them yesterday and it already looks like their grown out. read more

My feet are the size of full-grown cocker spaniels. I don't get pedicures often. Despite these obstacles, the ladies here took good care of me and didn't bat an eye. They even went around the place looking for "guy magazines" for me. I've been here three times now and not had a bad experience yet. Fast, well-priced, and they'll work on yeti-feet. I was there over 2 weeks go ago and received a mani and pedi and they were excellent. I didnt get any attitude when i asked to have my fingernails shortened ( my nails grow like crazy and i type all day). She took the time to file my nails and the other lady did a good job on my feet. I hate to say it : but I like this place alot better than Top Nail on 43rd and Troost. Plus this place is clean! it is simple and cheap and yeah they look bored but they do a good job and are pleasant. sometimes you want to just go into a place, relax and get pampered instead of listening to riff raff and a show every time. I felt at ease here: not like the other place where each time someone knocks on the door and they buzz you in, you wonder if you will live to see another day. Crazy. Sometimes cheap doesnt equal safe. Here, I feel safe and at ease. I would recommend. Not to mention they really do a good job. I tipped them both $5.00 dollars. sorry. they keep upping hte price when I go in and the manicure and pedicure doesnt last long and had to return several times to get the previous work corrected which they charged to correct their own work! I am always looking for the best/cheap nail salons whenever I move to a new city. Of course yelpers helped me out again. On a random Monday after a brutal midterm, I called up nail spa 39 to see if I can drop by. A really nice lady answered the phone and said no problem. When I arrived I was expecting a lot of customers...I was surprised the shop was dead. The lady who did my mani pedi was meticulous, but I felt the scrubbing was somewhat lackluster. The atmosphere was just a little bit too weird for me. I didn't feel relaxed at all with the tv playing at the entrance area and no music/gossip magazines/tv for customers. Another woman was helping her kid with her homework. Good for her but bad for me...I totally support parents who take charge of their kids' education, but c'mon this is a nail salon where a gal wants to relax after a long day of work/school. I really searched hard and this seems like the only reasonable priced mani pedi place in KC with limited OPI selections ($30). I guess I will be back but I hope I can find somewhere better soon. read more

Very friendly staff and comfy/inviting wait area. The lady that did my mani and pedi seemed unsure and wasn't that great at her paint job...I kind of wanted to paint them myself. And the color I chose was low which I knew could be tricky but of course she poured w/e into the bottle in hopes of making it work and it just looked streaky so she let me chose a color from inside the case (where they usually out bottles for sale....at least I thought so until she opened the bottle and I could clearly see it was used but....ok) this color wasn't the same but similar and I actually didn't like it that much but already felt like I had complained enough so I just went with it....it'll do until next time. I went here the other day for a quick pedi and gel nail mani. It was only $48 together! West Plaza Nails is $45 for the shellac only, so I was quite pleased. As everyone has said in the prior reviews, the atmosphere leaves something to be desired, but that's fine with me...I was more concerned about price than a "spa experience"....you get what you pay for. The staff was nice, shallac color choices were minimal, but I found a lovely color. My leg massage was longer than normal and much needed. Overall this is a great cost saving salon. If you want a more luxurious spa style atmosphere...go pay more somewhere else. read more

I went in for a quick polish change, and waited quite a long time. The waiting area is comfortable, but there was kids programming on the tv, which was kind of loud. I've got nothing against kids, I just don't want to watch Hannah Montana. My tech seemed distracted, and while she worked quickly, the results were less than I expected.
