Le Sud is a stand out experience in a very difficult time for restaurants. It was my birthday and I cannot remember a more memorable birthday. My wife and 2 children have been very careful since the start of the Covid pandemic. With 2 children, nights out which had been a regular occurrence are now few and far between. We have loved Le Sud in the past and ordered take out from Le Sud over the past few months. We saw the tents and thought we would give it a try. It was nothing short of spectacular! We reserved one of their tents which were cozy and welcoming. Nice size table, side table for serving, awesome heater, speaker to play your own music!. True innovation in what I am sure is a very challenging time for restaurants. We felt safe and well cared for! The food and drinks were amazing! Our server Cynthia and every staff member was wonderful. Waiting on 2 young children can be a challenge, but Cynthia was wonderful. My son said he wants to have his next birthday at Le Sud.! My wife and I live a few blocks away and have tried most of the well known restaurants in the city and I would place our experience on Friday night at the top of the list. It would be a great place for a quiet dinner, dinner with friends, or special family night out. Le Sud will be my go to spot for a safe and memorable dining experience in the coming months and hopefully long after. read more

Le Sud is a very nice restaurant in the Roscoe Village. I was very excited to go there this afternoon with my friends. I was hoping to have a blast. Unfortunately everything was turned upside down. First the drink was spilled on me and my friend (not a big deal, things happen). The waitress (a very nice one) apologized to both of us and checked if we were ok. And we were. Then we ordered our food. All of us got a burger and that's when the trouble began. The burger had a huge potential. I liked the bun, the meat was tasty and was prepared the way I wanted it. It was juicy with some greens on it. So, overall pretty good. However, it was extremely salty as well as the fries the came with it. I wasn't able to finish it. I have to say that when asked to get a new one, me and my friends said no, but we should have asked for a new dish. I really hope it was just "an accident" and the burger there is really good. What I'm really saddened about is that we weren't offered a small discount or maybe just a free drink or a desert for the spilled drink and the salty food. The manager didn't come to talk to us about it even though we mentioned it a couple of times during our conversation with the servers. When we were leaving the place we mentioned the salty burger once again to the server but she didn't really seem to be interested in what we had to say. So we left the place a little bit disappointed, and half hungry. This review is based just on one visit and maybe it was just one of those days when things simply didn't work out. The entries were ok. The pork and the gnocchi were really good. However, the hostess was really rude; the story is below. Thus, we are not returning to this place. You will have way better food and a better experience at places like Mott's Street, Dos Urbana Cantina, or at MonteVerde for the same price. We had a reservation at 8:30 PM. On our way we got caught on traffic, so, as a courtesy to the restaurant, we called to mention we might be 5 minutes late. We were able to make it at 8:30, but the hostess told us we had to wait until 8:45 PM even though we had made it on time. When we arrived, there were at least 4 tables available inside, and 2 outside. After 10 minutes, only one table was taken but they still haven't seated us. We asked the hostess why we were not been seated. They seated us right away and said that the kitchen was busy and that's why we haven't been seated yet. So, Le Sud, did you make us wait because we called to say that we were late, because the kitchen was busy, or just because? What have you done is we haven't called? we still arrived at 8:30 PM. We had been to places where we have to wait even if you arrived on time. However, their attitude was really nice and make you feel appreciated for your patience. So, it is not that we don't understand that sometimes we may need to way, but the hostess' attitude at Le Sud was really rude to the point we almost decided to leave. There are so many dining options in Chicago that one can easily spend a whole year trying different places every weekend. We will not recommend this place to anyone we know. read more

My family and I finally visited Le Sud in Roscoe Village. First, they require everyone to wear masks and they will take your temperature when you enter the restaurant. The staff also wear masks, so make sure you bring a mask. We started with the salad, and it was so good! The dressing was very nice and light but flavorful. Highly recommended! For our main course we had the grilled pork chop - so juicy with amazing sauce, greens and apples. This was my favorite! Unfortunately I did not order it but I will next time. I ordered the grilled fish with mixed vegetables and it was so good! The fish melts in your mouth, and perfectly seasoned. Simple but done right! My sister had the burger and she absolutely loved it. Also, the service was great! Highly recommend this place! Thank you for an amazing meal and great service! Do not skip dessert! We had the creme brulée and it is so delicious!!! read more

Patio and indoor space is beautiful. Great wine list. Waitress and overall staff and service fantastic. Came with party if 6 - We had someone with several allergies and the cook and waitress were incredibly accommodating and went out of their way to double check that they had gotten the ingredients right. Just a really great vibe for the staff overall. Everyone in my party liked their dishes. I had the trout which was good, could have been a bit more flavorful. We tried Le Sud on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was very busy and I'm glad we had reservations even though there were a few open tables. I love the vibe of the restaurant. It's cozy and romantic, and very chill. The service wasn't amazing, and I debated giving them three stars versus four. If I could have, I would have gone with 3.5 stars overall. First, we were seated and waited a long time to get our drink order taken. Then, we ordered an appetizer, and it arrived and we finished it and our server never came back the entire time to take our entree order. We had to ask the person clearing our plates to bring our server back. So we finally order our entrees, and to the kitchen's credit, everything did come out quite quickly. And our server was warm and friendly, but the timing was really off. Additionally, the table behind us was being doted on constantly - the chef or someone from the kitchen kept coming out to talk to them, hand deliver items - so we felt quite neglected. Regarding the food, our appetizer was good but not great. We had the escargot with bone marrow. We received two sliced of bone, and one of them literally had no marrow in it. I grew up in a home eating and preparing bone marrow myself so I know how to find that gold hiding in places and there was none to be found. The second bone had a ton of marrow so I suppose that kind of made up for it, but it was still very disappointing. The escargot tasted mostly like campfire. I would prefer the marrow and bread only. There was a HUGE amount of cilantro on the plate. Like enough to make a salad with it. Next time, I'd skip this dish but I'm glad I gave it a try. Our server did ask us if we enjoyed the dish, and I was going to tell him that our one piece of bone had no marrow in it, but he honestly asked the question and then because we had finished the dish and hadn't ordered our entrees yet, quickly cut us off so I felt like he didn't really want to know the answer anyway. For entrees, I got the scallops and my husband got the pork. I loved my dish. It was really incredibly delicious. The scallops were HUGE and perfectly cooked. There was everything on that plate - cream and vegetable crunch and some acid. And I found it the perfect amount of food to leave room for dessert. My husband also really enjoyed his pork chop. He did say there were a few huge chunks of fat, but still felt like it was a decent amount of meat and that it was cooked perfectly. I will say that often we go to restaurants where the meal peaks with the appetizers so I was quite pleased that this wasn't the case. If it were, I'm sure we would not be planning a return. We had the chocolate mousse for dessert and it was delicious. I thought it was a little gritty but it could have been the chunks of orange. I guess I'm just used to a pot de creme in a classic french restaurant where the chocolate is silky smooth. But it really hit the spot and it was very rich and satisfying. TL;DR: Very nice neighborhood spot with great ambiance, excellent drinks, and good food. I look forward to trying again to see if the service is better another time and if the other appetizers or starters are as satisfying as the entrees were. read more

We decided to come here for our valentines dinner. We enjoyed everything! We got the octopus, foie gras, and duck breast. However, I did get food poisoning from eating the duck breast, how I know because I didn't eat anything before that since I was waiting to go eat dinner. I am still feeling really sick, however I give this place 4 stars because I did enjoy everything. It was just a bummer that I got food poisoning from the duck breast. It was a little too raw, but that was my fault for not telling the server to cook it more. Hopefully next time I'll try something else. read more

I cannot overstate how fantastic our entire experience at Le Sud, start to finish, was. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the service was warm, friendly, and had that magical ability to be present at the exact moment you need them. We started with cocktails at the bar - the cocktail program is obviously on point, and everything we ordered was great. Of particular note - the Black Wave was the big hit; the warm and juicy flavors of the cocktail were perfectly balanced by the lemon. And my House Martini was unlike any other I've had; the celery bitters and nicoise olives were a nice touch. The seating was cozy but not cramped; roomy banquettes, space between the tables, and soft but not dim lighting. Although the ceilings are high and tin, noise was not an issue and it was easy to converse at a normal level. On to the food and wine! We were instructed to choose either an entree and a plat per person, or to mix it up and share. We started with the housemade baguette and butter, and agreed that we'd all be happy just eating bread and butter til they kicked us out. We also had the charcuterie; I'm not a fan of liver at all, but even I know a good chicken liver mousse when I taste one. Our incredible waiter was spot-on with his recommendation of the roasted carrots. Who leaves a meal raving about the carrots? Our party, apparently. We also had the local green salad, very refreshing, and the rabbit with polenta, which was rich but perfectly balanced with fresh tomatoes and pickled vegetables. The sommelier recommended both a red and a white to accompany our food, and offered a taste of each. I believe we had a picpoul de pinet and a beaujolais, both very French and very delicious. For our plats, we shared a bouillabaisse, which was full of perfectly cooked fish, mussels, scallops, and enormous prawns, a flavorful and tender half roasted chicken, and one of the most delicious roasted duck breasts I've ever had. Finally, we ended with Banyuls, espresso, a cheese plate (easily shared by 3), and a chocolate orange mousse. I strongly believe that we could have picked at random from the menu and had every bit as spectacular of a meal, and I look forward to our next visit already! We tried Le Sud during their soft opening so I am definitely giving them another try after they've worked out the kinks. First and foremost it is possible to be "over waited on". We were interrupted AT LEAST a dozen times to see if everything was ok. Now, I get it, new and concerned about good service but interrupting conversation repeatedly is not good. Also, wait for the patron to finish chewing their last bite before you remove the plate. In fact, wait for ALL patrons to finish eating before you clear a plate. The food was good. A little too much going on, keep it simple. Cost was slightly more than our regular dining spot, Gather, and quality slightly less. Again, we will give them another try but if it isn't great, we'll be sticking with Gather on Friday nights. Cheers read more

Yes!! Yaaassss!! Finally a destination restaurant in Roscoe Village! It's amazing. Beautiful decor, fabulous French wine list (and good by the glass selection, too) and knowledgeable staff to help you pick a bottle that will be exactly what you want. You can tell the staff wants you to have a wonderful experience and is as excited to be a part of this new contribution to north side dining. Most importantly, the food was soooo tasty. The foie gras tart was one of the most original and delicious things I have tried all year. The duck was prepared perfectly and the lavender and fennel just complemented the savory flavors so well. The food seemed to me to be authentically French, but also seasonal & local & interesting. We had the charcuterie, which had smoked pork belly, smoked sturgeon, & a duck liver mousse pate. All were delicious! We also tried the sunchokes with chèvre & pickled blueberries, which was also very tasty & I loved the blueberries. We've been seeing the under construction signs for a while know. It finally opened and we got to try out Le Sud first hand. The hostess and wait staff were all very friendly and knowable. We ordered the bread and butter to start. Set aside any thoughts you may have that bread should be free. Both the bread and butter were made in house. The bread was very flavorful and the butter was amazing. Im no expert in french cuisine, but I'm pretty sure good butter is a great starting point. For our entrees my girlfriend ordered the duck and I ordered both the rabbit and carrot appetizers. The duck was very will done. The chef rendered the duck fat to make the skin crispy and delicious. The rabbit and carrot dishes, though separate appetizers, paired well together but were also delicious on their own. I surprised myself by being too full for dessert. I thought for sure I'd be stopping somewhere after to fill my big appetite. Overall Le Sud was a great restraunt. I hope they maintain their excellent style and presentation so they can thrive. We will definitely be going again soon, but we truly can't wait to dine on their rooftop when spring rolls around. read more

Having taken the hint from all of the fantastic reviews on yelp for this place, I went there and I have to say that this place was fantastic. I distinctly remember the beat salad, the calamari and the roasted chicken that was split between me and my date. In a word they were all succulent. The wait staff was extremely courteous in the atmosphere was very nice. To be honest, I could have used a little more distance between us and the table next to us. My date was sitting on more of a bench seat so it was a little odd. Otherwise, go to this place. It was extraordinary. My compliments to the chef :-) and furthermore my compliments to a rate wait staff who work hard to make sure our night was memorable. :-) read more

Definitely no expense was spared on the renovation. Had a great glass of champagne to start and paired perfectly with the tuna tartare. Both fantastic. Nice pour and portion too. I also had the steak frites because if you're going to try a brand new French restaurant then you better find out how they handle the most classic staple. Again, excellent! Fries were really crispy, steak was perfectly cooked to order, juicy, and delicious. The waitress recommended a red wine (by the glass) that was Lebanese (which was interesting!) and it was so smooth and delicious. Oh, and the carrots! Ordered a side of carrots and those were the best ever...the almond butter sauce with sunflower seeds was so ridiculously good. Finished with the cake -- Gateau Basque. Again, perfect! Le Sud definitely kicks up Roscoe Village a notch as it's much more than a neighborhood restaurant -- it's truly a Northside destination. Have been here several times, all since the pandemic, and always been impressed with the quality and consistency. Had a bad experience this weekend. Took too long to get seated; food came out too late, too salty, out of order, and downright cold. Service was inattentive, incompetent. Bad enough experience that they should have known how bad it was, apologized, and perhaps comped something. They did not. Thought to complain but decided not worth it. Not inexpensive. What a nice Treat. LOVE this place and I love anything french, so I am very critical. Le Sud exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. This inviting room was bustling with people and begs you stay and take it all in. Being opening day, I never expected the timing, the service and the food to all be fantastic, but to my surprise it all surpassed my expectations. From the Tuna Tartar w mussel cream, roasted carrots w sunflower seeds and the Bavette Steak Frites , everything was scrumptious. The food was not only delicious, but also creative in the preparation and presentation. Also the Lebanese wine by the glass paired very well with the steak- I shared a piece of the Basque cake that I never could have imagined. Soon yummy!!! I went here excited to check out a new french restaurant in the city. I commend them for bringing food options to Roscoe Village. To be honest - the food was okay. It was more generic american w a french twist than french itself. Ambiance was loud, Service was attentive, but the entire time I felt like this was french "make believe". I don't have a problem with that necessarily but it top-tier french bistro pricing that doesn't deliver. I'm hesitant to write a bad review since I'd really like to see these guys succeed; but I think that's what most of these positive reviews are -- wishful thinking. read more
