We had a mostly great experience dining here. The service was definitely a highlight--our waitress was friendly, attentive, and impressively knowledgeable about the menu. That said, the atmosphere was a bit tough to enjoy because the air conditioning wasn't working properly during our visit. It was an extremely warm week, and unfortunately, the heat inside made it hard to fully enjoy some of the hot dishes. We even skipped ordering items like the French onion soup, which we were really looking forward to, simply because the temperature was just too uncomfortable. Despite that, most of the food we did try was delicious. A few things didn't quite hit the mark--like the potato salad, which felt a little underwhelming compared to the rest of the meal--but overall, the flavors were solid. The desserts were especially good and a nice way to end the meal. I genuinely feel for the staff having to work through the heat, and I'd absolutely give this place another try--ideally in the fall or winter when the temperature is more manageable. I have a feeling the full experience would shine in the right conditions.

Amazing dinner, favorite restaurant in the area. Came here for a late night dinner, the place is small and intimate with excellent service. To start, I had the French onion soup. It was good but I think it needed a little more salt. I was looking for a more salty bite due to the cheese but it ended up being very mild. My husband enjoyed the garlicky escargot, perfectly done. For entree, I had the chicken which was tender and came with a lightly lemony sauce while my husband decided on the pork tenderloin. This is not typically his normal choice but he said he was very happy with his pick, with the pork being tender and perfectly paired with the sauce. For dessert we ended with the Nougat which I highly recommend. It had the perfect blend of flavors- subtly sweet, tart from cherries, and citrusy from candied orange. Can't wait to come back!

We had a lovely 20th anniversary dinner at this French restaurant that we haven't dined at before. The food was delicious and the service spot on. Our server Marina came to the table with a couple glasses of rosé to acknowledge our anniversary. How sweet was that? My husband and I shared two hors d'oeuvres, the scallops in a lemon caper sauce and the mushroom tart with goat cheese, fried shallot & frisée. For dinner, my husband had the special for the evening, the coq au vin with white wine, bacon, mushrooms, onions and topped with turnips. He loved it and said the chicken just fell off the bones. I had the halibut veronique with pea shoots, fresh grapes and golden raisins. The halibut was fresh and moist, with a nice sear on top. To end the meal, we just had to share the decadent and rich chocolate soufflé crème anglaise. Such a fabulous meal and a special night. The bill came to $252 for the food we order, three glasses of wine and a cappuccino. We will definitely be back to dine here again.

First off, Paul Virant is a brilliant chef! Have had his food on many occasions and it's always amazing! This experience definitely still holds his crown up high for excelling beyond the mark! His gnocchi were little pillows of heaven and his foie gras will leave your mouth watering! The table all thought the snails were the best dish of the night, I was not in agreement, but still, his food rocks! His duck confit will leave you dreaming about it days later and his dessert menu will put you over the edge because you can't say no to his pastry chef! Definitely a restaurant worth checking out, service and food are always on point!

Two dishes at Petite Vie were truly exceptional last night. 1.) Cuisses de Grenouille à la Provençale" (frog legs) as a "Plat du Jour". They are described as soaked overnight in milk featuring butter, garlic, lemon, and parsley. They are lightly crisped and tender, and deliciously seasoned. Among the best I've ever had. 2.) Pork Chasseur - tender pork loin paired with mushrooms, garlic, a light white wine sauce, and roasted tomato. Simple, refined, and full of flavor. I loved our server Thierry M, and he achieved a casual elegance that I truly enjoyed. One example of a nice touch is that when he sat my Americano on the table in front of me, he rotated the saucer placing the mug's handle to my right. I appreciated having a seasoned professional as our server.

We celebrated my birthday dinner at Petite Vie and had an amazing experience, especially sitting at the chef's counter. Watching the chefs work their magic added a fun, interactive element to the evening and really elevated the whole vibe. The food was excellent across the board. We kicked things off with a few happy hour favorites--escargot (a must-try), a beautifully balanced frisée salad topped with a soft-boiled egg, and perfectly crispy French fries. The French onion soup was rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious--one of the highlights of the night. My son ordered the burger, which was indulgent but incredibly flavorful. Of course, we had to get their fresh baguette, which came with mustard and butter that were both simple and seriously good. The only miss of the night was the gnocchi--it was just okay compared to the rest. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but the cozy atmosphere, attentive service, and high-quality food made it well worth it. Definitely recommend for a special occasion or a date night!

Such a unique and delicious dinner experience. We made reservations on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday and were seated right away. I would highly recommend making reservations since it seemed prettty busy! From the outside, it looks like any typical downtown restaurant (with some patio seating) but inside had a cute, upscale, and clean environment. Personally, I felt like the tables lacked some personal space which also made hearing a bit difficult. No formal dress code either but everyone seemed to be pretty dressed up which made it feel even more fancier. Our server was very helpful and friendly. I'm not a huge alcohol person and all the drinks seemed pretty strong but he recommended the Ma Cherie which was great! They ask that you ordered everything all at once so the kitchen can set the pace for the meal. This makes total sense but I tend to have eyes bigger than my stomach and was worried about ordering too much. For two people, we ordered two appetizers, two entrees, one side, and a dessert which ended up being the perfect amount. We decided to stick with the French classic and started escargots. The escargot was delicious but the bread that accompanied it was majorly burnt. We also tried the gnocchi which was good! You could definitely tell the gnocchi is freshly made since it tasted very doughy (maybe slightly underdone?). For my meal I tried the halibut and split the seasonal pomme de terre. I really enjoyed the grapes with the halibut since it added a unique sweetness to the dish. To top off the night, we ordered the chocolate soufflé based on the many other Yelper's recommendations. it was small but perfect. They even added a birthday candle to my plate.

This will be a meal I think about all week! Chef Paul Virant has created something very special in his new Western Springs French Brasserie concept. This is the perfect spot to enjoy an elevated date night or special occasion. The inside is intimate with 65 total guest seats split between the bar top, chef's counter, and banquet seats. The interior is designed impeccably well and transports you to a cozy, European dinner spot. We started with the Petite Vie 75 & Ma Cherie and later tried the Cesser & Belle Jardin. If you are a gin drinker, I highly recommend the Cesser as it is unlike any other gin cocktail we've had. I personally loved both the Ma Cherie & Belle Jardin as they were balanced well, bright, and flavorful. When ordering food, they ask you to order everything at once and they will kindly pace your meal. We started with the Gougeres, Demi Baguette, Tourtons de Champsaur, & Parisienne Gnocchi. Each starter that came out we loved more and more until we got the gnocchi which blew us away! These literally melt in your mouth and would recommend as a must try dish! For entrees we got the Confit de Canard & Petite Vie Burger. The Confit de Canard had the bone in for extra flavor and the sauce paired with the leeks was *chef's kiss*. The Burger was very tasty and nice to have on menu as a safer option. I loved that they took a classic and made it their own with brie cheese, caramelized onions, truffle aioli, and very soft bun. The pomme frites and pairing sauce were addicting to eat! Lastly, we split the Nougat Glacé for dessert which was a fruity and nutty frozen ice cream. Overall, Petite Vie is exactly what downtown Western Spring needs! The classic french cuisine and quality of food is some of the best I have seen in the suburbs and service is top notch. Make a reservation to try before this hidden gem gets the recognition it very well deserves.

I really liked a few things about this place. The service was great and ambiance was soft and romantic at first sight (but actually loud, see below). Service was great and prompt. My water was continually filled. The apps were ok, the chicken was yummy and portion was generous. Although I expected a little more veggies. It was just chicken with a spoonful of potatoes. A few things I didn't love: overpriced. City prices for the burbs. I also didn't like how noisy it was. It was LOUD, I could barely hear the person next to me let alone the ones at the end of our table for 7. All in all, a nice experience!

Porc Chasseur. The best main dish!

It was our first visit to this wonderful French restaurant. We were warmly greeted by the bartender who offered us to order drinks while we were waiting for our table to be ready. Let me tell you, his Abeille Amère cocktail with chartreuse was a masterpiece. While enjoying the cocktails, we asked the bartender his recommendations about the dishes and his suggestions were on point. My Pâté Maison was tasty, escargots up to par, Trout Amandine was perfectly cooked although a little bit too salty same as my husband French fries served with a steak. But the true star of our meal of the party of four was Pork Chasseur, a tender delicious pork tenderloin cooked with mushrooms and garlic in white wine sauce, accompanied by roasted tomato. Everything was fantastic except our table. We were seated in the back room with very uncomfortable chairs and terrible acoustics so that we couldn't carry the conversation without shouting. I will come back to this restaurant to try the other dishes but definitely will never seat in the back room again.

What does chefs counter seating mean?

It is counter (not table) seating right in front of the cooking. I am glad we did it but I would not do it again. The chefs are BUSY so you will not be chatting with them through the glass barrier. And it was far too close to the restroom. Urinal…

What does the bar seating mean? Is it at the bar or at a table in the bar area?

It is at a bar (not a standalone table) in the first area of dining near the entrance. It's a much more actively and lively area where you can watch servers prepare drinks.

Out here in deepest Suburbia, sometimes things present a vaguely Disneyesque artifice, where, if…read morethe fantasy world was more advanced, "Quotation Marks" would appear magically in the air around buildings (and, alas, people) indicating irony should be applied as a mitigating factor. This is not to imply in any way those places (or people) are therefore any less in quality or to be avoided. But I digress... I've driven past the "Paris Bistro" here, since it was established, and, unfairly thought "yeah, right". Why? Route 59 is a 1000% American Commerce Zone, rife with every franchise on the docket, and conformity is securely on the menu. And rightly so. Folks out here may have had their success, but they were raised in front of American TV, and their consumer habits developed accordingly, especially with regard to cuisine and eating habits. There are, of course, bona fide Ethnics in the general area, but those are germane to the Communities in residence. (Some FAB Chinese, Indian and Mexican places-q.v.) I am not aware of a burgeoning French settlement anywhere nearby. Around here "Cooper's Hawk" passes for "fine dining", and if you've ever fine-dined, you'll know Cooper's Hawk may parlay a decent feed, but it ain't Alinea, Bubba. In the far Western and Southwestern Chicago 'burbs, folks' Culinary tastes are as conservative as their politics. So whither "Paris Bistro"? It's a handsome suburban building with inviting signage. When you walk in, you pass a bar having an impressive array of boozes. Keep going west past the bar and you're in a room mimicking a rural setting, if a rural setting had curved leather banquettes. There's a more traditional dining room on the other side of the bar, but I didn't go in there. It was daytime, and bright, but when daylight ebbs, I'll bet both rooms are romantic. The service is reserved and accommodating-you're not going to find a wisecracking "Alice" on the staff. The menu actually is pretty accurate as a French Bistro in the USA. Lots of Français on it (in the titles), but the descriptions are all clear English. You don't have translation to fear. The menu is extensive, and features many traditional "Bistro" faves, along with select "American" choices. I was in for Brunch. Disregarding conformity, I ordered the Escargot for Hors D'oeuvre, not that I wanted to, but because I am pathologically incapable of NOT ordering Escargot if they are on the menu before me. They were yum, but I wish there was a softer bread available for sopping the buttery-garlic goodness remaining after the morsels are consumed. As "they" say, a French Chef is judged by their prowess in cooking a simple Omelette, so that's where I went. "Jambon et Gruyere" to be exact. It wasn't a large beast, but it was tasty, light, and properly prepared. No sign of the Rugby-Ball pancake-batter-enhanced behemoth omelettes you'll find in common Coffee shops. Accompanying was a (very) small salad of nice composition, with just enough fruity vinaigrette to satisfy. Also on the plate were tasty and ultra-crispy "shoestring fries". I'm not a slave to potatoes with breakfast. but these were damned good. The problem at hand (so to speak) was the transport from plate to mouth, as they were very thin and very crisp. Both fork and spoon were inefficient. I thought of using the spoon to crush them, thus rendering spoon a contender to preserve my dining decorum. In the end, I bit the bullet and just picked them up in hand, decorum be damned. I wish I had a bucket of these for movie-watching snacks at home. The coffee was a conundrum. It arrived with a strongish smell, like it was burnt and past its prime, but lacked the acrid flavor such as found in a forlorn brew. It was actually a fine, bold, cup of VERY dark roast. It's a nice, sophisticated (but not snooty) resto, dignified but not stuffy. If you need to have a business breakfast/brunch, this is a perfect place. Also, if you're not in the mood for the hustle and bustle of a noisy coffee shoppe. Prices a bit higher than you might expect, but... I quite enjoyed both the bread and circuses here, and while I never mistook myself from being anywhere else than in Naperville (not Paris), I caught the vibe, and it was nice. I am officially pissed at myself for not stopping here sooner. No "quotation marks" for this place. Throwing 4 stars (for now), and I'll be back here very soon for dinner.

That room is usually where they sit families. It was not our choice and we voiced our opinion to sit in the dining room. The staff immediately switched everything to the warm and inviting dining room. The food provided was tasty from the mini sandwiches to the tartines to the sweet treats. I have to say there was an inconsistency with sizing. Some were generous and some were lacking. They could've done a better job with consistency so we all got the same sizes. The tea service was very cute but you were only able to choose a couple teas. I've been to other teas at Suzette's and Pinecone Cottage where the tea is unlimited, as well as they ask if you would like another tasting of something that you really liked. I felt for the money this tea service was limited as well as not consistent. It was a great way to spend time with my Pilates friends, though. I could see myself doing this again if there were improvements made and they were more generous by offering an additional taste.

The croissant was very buttery, but I felt it was so buttery, it lost some exterior texture a fresh croissant may have. The potatoes were very tasty, but were dripping in oil on the plate. One thing that seemed to surprise me was me was the unsweetened iced tea. I felt it had black currant in it. That was lovely! Overall, this place is good. The price was not so great. But it is definitely cheaper than a trip to Paris.

Or youre dating someone who likes Anthony Bourdain and you've convinced her you're a foodie. I rarely if ever give a place 5 stars but I have to for this place. At a high level heres what made it stand out to me from other often mentioned places in chicago: the portions felt decent for the prices, the food was actually good, and the vibe truly did feel like a busy French bistro vs the well spaced large rooms of most other restaurants. It's not great if youre someone overstimulated easily, hard of hearing, or need elbow room. Or if youre looking for this uber luxe quiet formal vibe. But if you want to go somewhere where you feel like youre in a (extremely well known) hole in the wall this is it. Even though it was crowded one of my favorite parts was that the chefs or at least culinary dressed not front of house vibe dressed staff- were walking around as well so it was like you were really in the back of the kitchen secret table vibes. I also appreciated that a couple got engaged and they called attention to it without making us all cheer incredibly loudly. Me and the table next to me were like- who? what? They have good N/A champagne which I appreciated. And the bay leaf ice cream tasted like some legit herbs - which as someone whose goal is to really taste plants and the flavors of the earth - I appreciated.

Le Bouchon is an excellent example of the idea one *can* have too much of a good thing. Alas, there…read morewere more things that went a little south with the experience. I ordered the Escargot and the French Onion Soup. There was also free baguette included at the start of the meal. I loved that the baguette had a substantial crust, for it was an absolute delight to butter it up (though not the best butter in the world), and dip it into the herbaceous escargot butter. However, the inside, despite its temperature, was still gooey/doughy. Too much crust or some other technical issue? I'll let those with baking experience sound off. Whatever the case, the last thing I want to do with fresh baguette is ripping out the innards and rolling it into a ball of silly putty. Now, for the escargot... ah snails, an old favorite, for I don't really love fast food (ha!) These were mostly good, save for two things: First, the texture was still just a little slimy, reminiscent of an oyster. 30 seconds more cook time is all they needed, a minute would be too much! Second, the sauce didn't do them any favors. I've had escargot in a rich, buttery, garlicky, slightly herbed sauce that was beyond divine. This dish went triple-overboard, if not more, on the greens - making it resemble a chimichurri rather than something turning snails into decadence. Now, we arrive at the French Onion Soup. The sheer amount of cheese was so excessive that I recoiled even though I have a line item in my budget for cheese. I fished what remained out, and consumed it only out of spite. Now, while I appreciate the use of crusty bread that didn't turn into soggy croutons, the size of the pieces was too large. I'm one who orders prepared food with the understanding that it is prepared and should require minimal additional work. Steaks that need slicing are exempt, soup is not. Unfortunately, there was one more undoing: while I can understand a less sweet soup may be normal variation in the recipe, one of the spoonfuls had something very sour, as if it was a large wad of sour cream (though none was present). This made were otherwise rich and flavorful broth less than enjoyable. When it comes to the service, this had some good and bad. It was friendly, attentive, and the food came out fast. However, an item of note is that finished plates were not cleared in due course. This applies not only to myself but also the stranger sitting next to me. Final verdict: I wanted to love Le Bouchon, really I did. I was even hoping, at first, to try more of the menu on a return visit. However, the poor execution across the board does not provide the confidence needed for a return visit.

The front of the restaurant is open in the summer and the lighting is nicely subdued. Our server was prompt and pleasant. Even the carrots used as garnish were pickled. The beef short ribs were tender and had the most amazing gravy. I wish I had the recipe. My wife enjoyed the white fish in a classic provinciale sauce. The bread pudding was likewise unique and delicious. The cost of a filling and delicious (taste and visually) was reasonable as well. If I lived in the area I'd be a regular.

As expected, the restaurant was packed, both inside and in the beautiful courtyard. Families filled the dining room, with children of all ages at about 90% of the tables. The team at Pomeroy has been so consistent and professional, that all of our dishes were delivered at a perfect and steady pace, and qualities remained high. Although we got a different server each time we went, they were all very welcoming, friendly, and attentive.  This time, Carlisle did such a wonderful job even though she was super busy, and she wished me a happy Mother's Day several times to make sure that my day was special.  I must mention that the friendly hostess greeted me with well wishes too, and said happy Mother's day again when we left. We had noticed that they had replaced the couch in front of the courtyard fireplace with more tables.  Who could blame them when they had so many patrons to seat.  However, the courtyard still looked gorgeous. Now on to the food and drinks.  I had a mocktail Bleu 75 ($13) that's my favorite, my husband had a glass of chardonnay ($17), our daughter had a Le Spritz Strawberry ($16).  We shared an order of Sea Scallops ($23) and a Warm Tomato Tarte ($19).  I had my go-to dish which was the Mediterranean Sea Bass ($38), I loved the seared skin that was crispy on the edges. Husband and Daughter each ordered a Spring Halibut ($92 for 2) from the Mother's Day menu.  We ordered 2 Strawberry Crème Brulee ($28 for 2), and I shared 1 with my husband.  I also had a cappuccino ($6). The check came up to $283.05 before tips (they add a 3% surcharge to each guest check, which may be removed upon request, we didn't).  As always, our dinner was very enjoyable and it's worth the money.  I had a very happy Mother's Day dinner, and it ended a wonderful weekend with high notes!  We will keep returning!

When we got to Pomeroy for dinner, we were seated in the farthest back room, one that was open-air ... the staff never asked us, they just put us there. The room was nice as was the weather, but the open-air room had gnats all over the place. Now we realize that gnats or fruit flies oftentimes come with wine servings ... and the Pomeroy has a bunch of nice wines, but the gnats flying around your face all through dinner was not pleasant. We ordered drinks to start, and found it hit-or-miss. The Watermelon Margarita seemed tempting, so we tried one. It came with a big smear of Tajin powder on the rim, and was not appealing. Once again, we thought they should mention this kind of thing before it appears. They replaced the drink, but it kept us off on the wrong foot. All in all, they still put our good food. Our complaint was the seating, the gnats, and the Tajin powder ... all they had to do was ask for our preferences and these could have been avoided. But alas, they drop to four stars.
