Today they brought a piece that needed to be examined under a microscope. I returned it, to which the chef said that this is how it should be. I found myself lured in to Le Zoo by the promise of $1 Oysters at Happy Hour (my favorite Hour) after a hard day watching my wife try on handbags worth a month's wages (so clearly I needed a drink). Along with the oysters (12 east coast beauties served with mignonette and cocktail sauces), I had an aperol spritz for $8 (refreshing and boozy), and she had a glass of sparkling for $7. Both of these options are preferable to the $6 option, which is wine poured from a 1.5L bottle - i.e., NOT the 'good stuff.' So after spending some enjoyable time with the friendly barkeep, and viewing the dinner menu between sips and oysters, we decided to spend the night. You don't see a lot of French bistros in Miami, and there were a lot of interesting things I hadn't had since Paris, so we settled in. Of the food, the French dishes were the best (the pizza and pasta options seem a little out of place, but I expect were designed to 'give the people what they want'). The FOIE GRAS was warm and rich, rested on some cooked spiced apples, and then on a rich bread ($24 - not bad). The STEAK TARTARE was excellent dish - the chopped steak had just the right texture and temperature, and was topped with a raw quail egg - very French, and a sizable salad ($17 - great deal). TRUFFLE TAGLIOLINI: This was a respectable portion size and the pasta was very fresh and enjoyable, but it was a little light on the truffles (which could have been confused for pepper - tiny black flakes), but I shouldn't have expected slivers of earthy ecstasy for $24. GRILLED BRANZINO: this mediterranean fish was moist and flaky, with a delicious crisped skin, this definitely won the entree round ($29, but worth it). Pretty full at this point - ok, bursting - but I wasn't about to complete a French dinner without some Creme Brûlée, and this one was a great sharing size, with lots of specks of real vanilla and a freshly flambeed crust. I would absolutely time any future visit to Bal Harbor to coincide with those $1 oysters, and see where things go from there. read more

The view is beautiful. You feel like you're in Monaco. The food, though, was less than good. We had beef carpaccio which was dry, no seasoning nor dressing. Set amongst the beautiful Bal Harbour Shops, Le Zoo transports you to Paris with its French bistro style decor, chairs and tables as well as the delicious menu. Ordered the oysters to start followed by the steak tartare, crispy calamari, and salmon tartar. The truffle pizza was everything I wanted and more with hints of truffle and egg on top! The pappardelle bolognese and moules frites were delicious entrees, but portions were a bit small and not meant for sharing. We dine at this restaurant quite frequently while we are in town and typically have the most outstanding experiences. Our most recent dining experience was out of the ordinary and has prompted me to submit this review. (Note the server was a 10 out of 10) Normally our dining experiences are a 10 out of 10, except our last visit. While we dined we received a few items that did not taste or look as they have previously. We commented to the server about the dishes and particularly the size of the portions. Our server was accommodating, apologetic and really did his best to ensure the experience was positive, in the end sending us a complimentary pastry as a gesture of kindness. Our biggest disappointment was with the manager, who must be new, as we had not met him before we left last season. He was less than friendly and was rather off putting to speak with. The manager basically told us we were wrong and this is how the food is served. His words were "you got what you ordered what do you expect me to do". This took us aback as out conversations with previous management had been much kinder. On our way to the bathrooms, my husband and I witnessed the manager screaming, red faced at our kind server. Though he was yelling at the server with a projected tone, we were not able to hear the interaction, only to see that the server looked fearful and discouraged. The dining room was half full and almost all the tables had turned to look as it was a noticeable disturbance. I must say in all our years of dining at Stars establishments, we've never seen the staff denegrated in such fashion. If not for my behest, my husband wanted to confront the manager, I believe his name is Herman. My greatest fear was my husband may have further infuriated this surly man and we did not want for the staff to endure any further verbal abuse. We usually love this spot and come often when we are in town. Our previous staff and manger interactions have always been pleasant, we hope this to be an aberration for your team. read more

This is one of the best French restaurants I've been to. Right in the outdoor mall at Bal Harbour, you couldn't ask for a better location. Especially during COVID, it was great to dine outside in their comfortable outdoor patio. We were able to get a variety of dishes including the nicoise salad, st tropez salad, steak tartare, etc, and everything we ordered was delicious. I was particularly impressed by the steak tartare, as it's typically not a dish I would order in the US, but was prepared to perfection. We also got a variety of desserts, including the creme brulee, lemon tart, and chocolate pot de creme, all of which were the perfect way to end a meal. Visited for miami spice lunch. The service was fantastic and surprisingly the portions were the regular size, which in a lot of restaurants it's not the case. The ambiance and decor very pretty and i love the fact they still use a nice tablecloth. Le Zoo is fashioned to give you an indoor or outdoor experience that's fitting for date night, dining with friends, and just a solo bite. Outdoors covered in trees and dim lighting to give you the balance between open and private. PRO TIP: start with the truffle pizza for the table, it is delicious and baked to perfection with a sunny side egg on top. Next the beef carpaccio is fresh, soft to the touch and taste, lightly seasoned, and delightful with each bite. Contrast that with one of my favorite appetizers the calamari and you have a great combo. The calamari was lightly breaded, not too chewy, and perfectly seasoned. As the main course the Lobster Frites was amazing. The garlic herb butter added just enough flavor as to not over power. PRO TIP: the lobster will most likely not fill you if you don't have other appetizers or sides. The dessert looked amazing although, I did not try it. Also, the muscles were tiny, and rubbery, possible overcooked. The bread was cold. And not good. The spread for the bread was sour and bad. The calamari was wet, portions were tiny, greasy, and not fresh tasting. The only saving grace of this place was the great ambiance and super great service. The problem is the chef. My first time eating at Le Zoo and I was very impressed. The location is nice since it's inside the Bal Harbour Shops. My party and I sat outside to eat since it was such a beautiful day. While we waited for our food, we were offered some of their breads and their sour dough was so delicious and dipping it onto the olive oil made it that much tastier. I ordered the chicken paillard and it did not disappoint! OMG it was really good that I'm still craving to try it again real soon. I'm so happy my co-worker recommended that I'd try it since it's her favorite. My other co-worker got a cappuccino after our meal and said I should try their homemade cookies that were on the plate. It was really delicious and tasted fresh. I'm only disappointed that there weren't more for me to eat! HA HA HA. Overall, I had a great experience and I can't wait to eat here again. read more

This may be the result of my long awaited anticipation to try this place, and it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. Our table was awful. We were feet away from the valet line, so we had car exhaust and loud Ferraris making conversation difficult. The calamari was exceptional, I will say. I enjoyed how it was served with thinly sliced peppers. My mussels were just okay, and from a French restaurant you'd expect moules frites to be spot on. They were a bit chewy. The truffle pizza just tasted like an herb flatbread. It was weird. There wasn't really much truffle, and there was an over cooked, hard egg on top. Service was slow.
