Jeff came out on short notice (and on a weekend) when we were in a panic about a positive lead test for our 12 month old daughter. He was thorough, patient with our numerous questions, and clearly explained what he was doing throughout the process. He didn't find any lead in our house's walls, trim, or paint, so he then took the time to look at items throughout the house. At the end of the inspection he took swabs from our flooring throughout. Jeff was simply awesome. First he wasn't annoyed by my MANY missed calls and he quickly understood why the situation was as dire as it seemed. I recently found through my contractor doing my house remodel that I needed to have a lead inspection because my house was built in the late 40''s. Jeff Van Slooten, owner of the Lead Detective Agency was recommended as the best in the area. Jeff was, as it turned out, the most reasonable of the three companies I talked to - and was by far the most informative, both before and during the inspection. My wife and I are purchasing our first home built in 1935. Whe found out that fha loan required any chips or peels needs to be remedied by an EPA approved company. We were under the impression we had to get the entire home abated. I got a quote from a lead abatement company that would have scared any seller that was willing to do what it took to remedy their house in order to sell to an FHA loan approved buyer. Long story short, he knew that we were not going to use him to test the paint, because lead or not, fha approved loans on homes built prior to 1978 had to be remedied by an EPA approve business to handle lead based paint repairs. He shared info on abatement companies vs RRP companies. He gave us the knowledge we needed to move forward on getting an estimate on remedies with an appropriate business for our purchase! His advice came after he knew we would not need his services. These are the kind of people and business practices that are hard to come by. I hope one day I can repay him with referrals we know he and his business deserves. Honesty, integrity and common courtesy is restored in me with the knowledge was willing to share and did. I recently recommend Jeff Slooten, the Lead Detective to a client of mine in the Sacramento area and he was much less expensive than the client had been quoted and provides a report that verified there was no lead paint on my clients house. The client was concered that since the house was built in 1976 there would definately be some but that isn't always the case, testing is clearly the best avenue and cost is so little for the peace of mind you get with the report. read more

Jeff was great! I highly recommend his services. With all the recent news concerning lead contamination of water (Flint, MI and others) and homes and with the recent lowering of the levels the EPA deems safe for exposure to children (we have a 2-year old child), my wife and I started to wonder is our house safe? Our house is in Carmichael and was built in the 1950s, when lead paint was still in use. Jeff answered all of our questions and had a genuine interest in his field. He is very knowledgeable of all topics concerning lead. He was prompt in setting up an appointment, on time for that appointment, and gave us way more than what I feel we payed for. He really seemed to care about keeping our family safe from lead (which I think stems from his having a child who experienced lead exposure many years ago), so he went way beyond the services we had originally agreed on and at no extra charge. He even checked our dishes for lead and, sure enough, our plates came back positive!! We promptly threw them in the trash and got new ones. Also, because none of the interior surfaces came back positive for lead (phew!), he said there was no sense in me wasting money on lab analysis of interior dust samples, since there was no interior source of contamination and they would definitely come back negative.
