Select Environmental recently removed some popcorn ceilings with asbestos from my house. I had previously received a few other quotes. When I spoke to Harold, he explained everything to me and was very candid, which is great. He also recommended that I check the licensing of the other companies I had quotes from. The experience from start to finish was a living nightmare. I was not made fully aware of what needed to happen in the way of prep (I went with this company because unlike the others they were able to accomodate not having to move all the furniture out). I felt rushed into a date that was 2 days away (otherwise I would have to wait until Feb, which at the time was 5 months later). I was told it would take two days at most (wed/thurs). On Thursday afternoon they called and said I couldnt get back in my house until Monday. I told them I needed clothes, etc, and was told if you want to sign something saying the asbestos may not be gone because we can't do the clearance test until Friday afternoon and results won't be in until Monsay then fine. I felt pigeoned into a very difficult decision, but they promised they'd always had negative test results. When I came home Thursday the workers had ripped off the ceiling fans and left them in piles on the deck, literally ripped my curtain tie backs out of the walls and left them lying around. The screens were out if the windows all jalopy as if they kicked them out. And the worst part, they used my brand new outdoor kitchen sink which had not been used yet to clean all the equipment, and it was scratched to hell. I sat there crying. That wasn't the worst. I went into the house and my 8-year old sons bed had popcorn ceiling all over it. They ripped the tape off so hard that it ripped the drywall off the side walls. I had $1800 in drywall repairs on the side walls (nearly every wall in every room) and staples were left everywhere- not one or two- more like 50. A few weeks ago the handyman was finally able to come reinstall the ceiling fans, low and behold, parts were missing. The cost to replace the parts was near as much as the fans, so I had to buy new fans. When I asked the company if they could see if the workers knew where they put the parts I was met with a balogney email about being out of the window for warranty and financial requests. The only reason I'm giving this company 2 stars is because the owner did work with me to recoup some of the cost. But I absolutely would not recommend them- not to a friend or an enemy. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Yelp needs a no star option. If you need asbestos abatement, go to anyone else. These people are sloppy, play fast and loose with estimates and figures and given the chance will overcharge and under deliver. We contracted for a single job that was reduced in scope after we found out that much of what we thought was"hot" had been labeled that way in error. In spite of a reduction of 54% of the total work they still billed us for the full job. Then, to add insult to injury, during their work they found an additional area that had been exposed to moisture and become moldy. But instead of notifying us while they still had containment set up, they had our air clearance test done, pulled containment and then told me we needed additional remediation. This resulted in nearly ten-thousand dollars in additional man-hours that could have been avoided had they done things differently. Then they sent us a bill with no credit for the reduced scope of work and refused to provide a detailed statement on my request. To top it off, their, office management is sloppy and disorganized and their "office manager", Kelli, is about as rude as they come and I have her emails to prove it. Asbestos abatement is a serious and expensive undertaking. Be cautious who you hire. Consider this a warning about an unscrupulous business that will screw you if they can! PS: I want to add their actual laborers worked hard and were polite and professional. It's the integrity and professionalism of their management that's the problem. read more

Came out the same day we called. Had water damage in our basement and drywall and lanonium tested positive for asbestos. These guys set up the containment area and demolished the water damage areas quickly and clean. Great group of people to work with. Very friendly and reliable. read more

What a rip off! What this company did was completely unacceptable. I had two different mold testing companies do samplings at my home. Both said there were elevated levels of toxic mold in my home. Select Environmental was hired to check 4 different areas we thought could be the source. Two of the places were in my kitchen. They claimed that there was no mold discovered, but they treated the wood as if there was and ran their air scrubbers. In my granddaughters room ( where the counts were the highest they were to open the wall underneath her window. Instead they opened the wall on the side, and same thing claimed there was no mold but treated it anyway and ran air scrubbers. The 4th place was in the attic. there was no evidence of them even going into the attic. When I questioned them about it they said they had pictures of the work done but never e-mailed them to me. During the course of the work I received a phone call from a person asking if I was home so he could come and do an asbestos test.I said why would you do that and he said because they cut into the sheetrock. The next day Glen calls me and tells me my house is clear the test was good. When I told him they did an asbestos test he was surprised. Not cool! Then of course they have a company come and do a mold test (with the air scrubbers running) and say it all good. Glen's exact words were move back in you have no mold and start living your life again! Well after all this they charged my landlord almost $5000.00! Last weekend we tore the carpet up and discovered that mold covers the floor in all the rooms. My landlord was so upset he said he cannot spend any more money and told me to move out. It all started when we were trying to save some money on new floor installation in our home. We were going to do the demo work and a Flooring Contractor install the new floor. Eager to get it done, I tirelessly ripped away at the layers of old flooring not even considering the possibility of asbestos. After our Flooring Contractor stopped by to check in on demo, he advised us to stop as the original layer of flooring of our home built in 1961 looked like vinyl asbestos tile. WHAT!? I totally freaked out and jumped down the Google rabbit hole. Warning: Do not go there! Instantly my family moved out of our home, bought an asbestos test kit from the hardware store, and I started looking for possible asbestos abatement companies. Blake reached out to me, and I discussed my situation. He was extremely knowledgeable and reassuring that what I had done wasn't really as bad as I was making it out to be. (I probably didn't give my kids a death sentence 10-40 years from now of mesothelioma.) Apparently vinyl tile is considered non-friable and in most cases the 12x12 tiles do not contain asbestos in comparison to the 9x9 tiles. Our hardware store kit was going to take over a week to get the results, so he even gave us the contact info for a local company that does asbestos testing at a much quicker and cheaper rate. As it turns out, our tile came back with no asbestos detected (PHEW!), so we can really breathe a sigh of relief. Although I ended up not having to use this company for abatement, I would definitely recommend them for the professionalism, customer service, and sense of care extended to my personal situation. I had called this business for asbestos popcorn ceiling removal. Spoke to Glenn over phone who was very nice and knowledgeable. Out of 4 bids they were the lowest by a few hundred, so I went with them. They came out and did everything as they said they would. After the work had been completed I had an issue with a light fixture that was accidentally dropped when it was being taken down. The Owner Blake handled it like a pro. Asked me how I would like it handled and I said to just please have it replaced. One of his guys came out the next day with a light but it didn't end up fitting so we agreed that since we couldn't find the exact replica that he would just write me a check for it. I told him a price I thought was fair, and he ended up sending me a check for even more! Now that's professionalism. Despite the small issue with the light that was of no fault of his, I would recommend this business purely on the excellent customer service I received from the owner. He really cares about the satisfaction of his customers and that's ultimately what we need to know about a company before giving them our business. I received 2 quotes from this company for a very small asbestos vinyl floor removal. The first being around 1,800 and then about 6 months later when I was ready to have the work done, they wanted to come and look at the job again and they quoted nearly 5,000! My floor installer told me it was a very easy removal and quoted me $260. This company is a ripoff. read more
