Came to leaf during Happy Hour on a Saturday and was extremely impressed with the delicious food at great prices!! I tried the "Crab" Cake Sliders and Buffalo Cauliflower Tacos, both of which were delicious. The tacos were quite large and the "bleu cheese" dressing was amazing. My friends tried the Mushroom Burger Slider and Grilled Flatbread and were also raving about how yummy their food was. We arrived before 6pm and were seated outside on the sidewalk patio immediately. In Boulder it's me sitting inside the cozy Leaf Restaurant at 16th and Iris with my son having 2 absolutely spectacular appetizers (the curried gnocchi in sweet pea and yogurt sauce along with the pimento cheese poppers) chased down with a wonderful locally crafted draft of Sanitas Red Ale. Followed that up with their Jamaican Jerk Tempeh (which while very good didn't ring my chimes quite as loudly as those incredible appetizers), and was too stuffed for dessert. Definitely a repeat visit is in order. This place gets national rave reviews and has apparently been around for a long time even though I'd never been there before. Good place for a fancy vegetarian meal. We ordered the Jerk Tempeh and the Jackfruit Carnitas and both were filling and pretty tasty. The dishes are on the pricier side, so I probably wouldn't return here unless for a special or professional occasion. I can certainly see this place as being a good place to bring your parents. The food is overall decent, but the restaurant interior and ambiance is the biggest draw. We came here on a Tuesday night, so we expected service to run fairly quickly. The restaurant was also fairly empty, so we were surprised when it took a few awkward stares at staff members to get us seated and get our orders in throughout the night. As a vegetarian, I greatly appreciate vegetarian restaurants. You meat eaters probably don't think about this, but the fact that I actually have more than 3 options to choose from is pretty awesome. With most restaurants, when I see a menu I have to go through a screening process where I locate the few options that I have available and then choose out of those. However, with an all-vegetarian menu, I just sat there looking at the menu for ages, like I was dumbfounded or something. (The waitress became slightly annoyed perhaps since it took a good 5 minutes for me to decide) And decide I did: polenta fondutto with traditional Japanese green tea with toasted rice to drink, and a artichoke heart guacamole to start. My lady friend got Indian Korma with black rice and a glass of wine. Now, while the artichoke heart guacamole was so-so, everything else I must say was excellent. I've never tasted polenta this amazing. The wine was excellent, the tea was excellent, and they even have their own organic vodka. I can't rave enough about how good the food was. Still, why only 4 stars? Well, the portions are on the smaller side and the meal came to a whopping $60 for two people. Seriously pricey, but seriously tasty. So, if you are looking for a nice small restaurant for a dinner date, or perhaps for a somewhat high-end vegetarian lunch, then this is your place. I've been here a few times and love the food and drinks. I walked in today after a 4-hour hike and the host said I could grab the one open seat at the bar since I was by myself and didn't want to take up a table. Maybe I looked a little disheveled after my hike, and my Patagonia jacket is old (they do free repairs for life, why would I need a brand new one?) so I didn't match the hip, stylish people sitting around me. I waited a few minutes but neither of the two bartenders acknowledged me so I had to get the QR menu from someone else. The bar was full but it only has 8 or 10 seats. In the time that I picked out the wine and entree I wanted to order, nobody greeted me but they were very attentive to the other bar patrons. Both bartenders looked directly at me a couple of times when I tried to get their attention but said nothing, no, "Hi, I'll be right with you." I even took out my ID to get their attention that I was going to order a drink, and nothing. After sitting there for 6-7 minutes, I just left and went somewhere else on Pearl where I got great service right away. Being ignored made me very sad especially because I was excited to eat there today. read more

THIS IS MY FAV NEW PLACE! Everything was amazing delicious, it's crazy. When I first walked in there was hardly anyone there so I was like "crap this place probably isn't good" That changed once I actually got to eat there. I forgot what I got, who cares it was amazing. Our waitress was LIZ and she's SOO sweet! she made her own drink, it's the cucumber pineapple lemonade. IT'S INSANE, I'll post a pic of it. If you go there then order that! it's life changing. Went in for a solo dinner. I wasn't in the mood for anything from the dinner menu, but they have happy hour from 3-6, so I ordered a few small things. The seaweed salad was awesome and so was the mushroom and avocado tartare. I didn't care for the Harissa tofu. They have a great wine and cocktail list, but I went with a cup of white tea. Not sure what the hype is about. For appetizer we ordered the tartar which was ok, and the flatbread which was not interesting at all. The waitress brought the tartar and forgot to bring any utensils or napkins and disappeared for a long time. They took a really long time to make the flatbread, and it came out totally undercooked like a dough and we had to send it back. We ordered the enchiladas as well as noodles, but neither tasted good. Then the waitress left us with the bill and didn't come back to collect the payment for a long time and we had to go pay at the door instead. Even if they were short staffed, I expected that the dishes taste decent but they didn't. Definitely cannot recommend this place. read more

No pictures so you'll have to take my word that Leaf was fantastic! First, there's none of that initial confusion or anxiety when walking in the door. Everything is visible from head level, none of the decor blocking any viewpoints. Immediately, this improves the natural light and brings calmness. I think the GM Katelin really sets the tone here as it was a pleasure chatting at the bar with her. Relaxing and very kind. Our waitress Tristan was seamlessly performing her tasks while at the same time making for more great conversation! The food was on point, the clear winners being the Calamari Styled Oyster Mushrooms, and the Buffalo Cauliflower Tacos. I actually thought the tacos were only vegetarian for a moment, as the execution of the vegan blue cheese with other flavors seemed too rich to be vegan. God I love this town. The Beet Hummus Flatbread was also incredible. I saved most of it til the end it being a bit on the sweet side, good enough to be a meal, but almost sweet enough to consider it a dessert. No mistake here, a great place driven by good people. Don't think it's best suited for those in a rush. OMG I loved this place. The decor was great: relaxing/soothing. There is a water feature in the restaurant, hiding a secret passageway to the bathroom shared with the sister restaurant next door. You can order the full menu of either from both locations. Which is great if there are issues with getting seating. The patio is nice, but it gets a bit cold at night. Everything I ate was absolutely delicious and made me want to lick the plate. It was also presented in a way that is very visually appealing. Yes, it's a bit on the expensive side, but honestly, after eating the food, I felt OK paying those prices. Every vegetarian meal on the menu would make any discerning foodie happy. Ehhh you can tell this place is trying but they don't really hit the mark. I got the cauliflower tacos and they were just okay, nothing to really write home about. I think that in today's times where vegan and vegetarian eats are "in", it's easy to slap some sauce on a vegetable and sell it for whatever price you want. We ordered a lot from them as we were really excited to try what they had (surprisingly, not a lot of vegan/vegetarian food options in the area?) and we took our food to go only to find a couple of items missing that we had paid for...so that sucks. Fantastic vegan food! It's one of my favorite vegan restaurants, at least Top 3! The only downside of it is its in Boulder not in LA....too far for me. Ha Everything on happy hour menu was great! Two days of french toast are not enough! I drug my friend here for a third day of french toast- around 3:30- and was greeted with a Happy Hour menu. We sulked over the limited options; a small handful of sandwiches and mixed drinks. Not too many vegan options jumped off the half-page menu. We decided to just get smoothies instead. Smoothie options that day: Chai, or banana berry. Ugh. About to give up and leave, my friend mentioned we were just there for french toast, and the waitress said the kitchen could still make it for us! Sweet! Well I, being a total loser, decided last minute to get a veganized Blackened Tofu Sandwich instead. I should have gotten french toast, but I wanted to "be adventurous" last minute by trying something new. I envyingly stole bites from my friend's french toast while he snatched my sweet potato fries.
