We had a chicken kebab that was inedible, it was completely dry to the point where we couldn't cut it, barely marinated, and the veggies were barely cooked. I ate at the Tibet Restaurant in Louisville off South McCaslin Blvd this past Sunday for the first time. The lunch buffet was great for me being a vegetarian. Lots of Vegetarian and Vegan Options to choose from. I had Tofu in a light curry, Spinach Saag, Vegetable Chow-Chow Noodles, Yellow Dal Soup, and Delicious String Beans with Onions that had a nice wok hei (Umami Charred Flavor). The buffet came with Naan bread, and a choice of Brown or White Rice. I had the brown rice which was perfectly cooked and tasted fresh and healthy. I finished my meal with some Kheer and diced fresh Watermelon that was offered on the buffet. Best of all was the low price that I paid for all this. Tibet Restaurant is not far from Boulder. Take 36 and exit south on McCaslin Blvd about 0.7 miles. They have the lowest priced buffet than any similar Tibetan, Nepali, or Indian buffets in Boulder. If you are humble enough to eat food that is not piping hot, and more like the temperature of food served at an Indian or Tibetan temple, than you'll enjoy this wonderful buffet. Also, keep in mind that Tibetan curries are much thinner and less spicy hot as the thick and heavily spicy hot curries of a typical Indian curry served in the U.S. If you are a vegetarian like me than I think you will enjoy their buffet. read more

This place probably needs to add the Indian food tag along with their Himalayan/Nepalese tag. A large portion of their menu is covered by Indian dishes as well as all the recommendations from the waiter were from that part of the menu. Wanting to actually try Nepalese cuisine, I went with the stew and a side of the Momo (steamed dumplings) The stew was okay. While it was tasty, I feel like there was missing just a bit more depth of flavor that I would expect from a stew. It did go well with the Naan though (but what isn't good with Naan?) The Momo or steamed dumplings were okay as well. Bit more gamey flavored than a gyoza/Mandoo but also just steamed so no crispy pan fried parts to it. Overall, a decent place to get a meal but I feel like there are better places out there. The service was great though but I went right when they opened for dinner and it was just me, until I was leaving then one other couple came in. read more

We tried this for the first time last week and were really pleasantly surprised! We tried a number of different dishes and even my 6 and 8 year old picky kids enjoyed it. The chicken curry was great, as was the tikka masala. My kids liked the dumplings and the fried noodle dish we ordered. I especially loved all the dipping sauces they brought out for us to eat with our meal! The hot chai was incredibly delicious. Ambiance was cozy and the service was attentive. We live nearby and were thrilled when we found out there was an Indian restaurant so close by! Our first visit we ordered off the menu (Chicken Tikka Masala and Chicken Saag) it was absolutely DELICIOUS! The second time we visited we tried the buffet which had a good selection of saag, masala, noodle dishes, and naan. As you would expect with any buffet the food didn't taste near as fresh or spicy as we had experienced previously when ordering off the menu. Beautiful interior, service friendly though not really paying attention to what us happening at the table (e.g., bringing me a receipt while I was still eating). I had the food at a food truck one day and it was okay, tonight's in-person visit confirmed that. The food wasn't terribly flavorful or interesting. The vegetables were definitely better than the meat, which didn't seem to take on any flavor of the gravies they sat in. Daal was extremely water-y thin, thinner than soup. The buffet is a value, that is for sure. I like going to a desi spot and enjoying a full meal as opposed to having to order everything separately to create a nutritious whole meal. This is one of my biggest issues with most desi spots that don't have a thali or buffet option. So I did appreciate getting to enjoy saag along with vegetables and chicken on the same plate. I just wish the chicken and lamb were cooked better. Tibet's is okay in a pinch but there are more flavorful options close by. read more

I have found nirvana... in Louisville. The fam and I went for lunch at Tibet's yesterday on a friend's recommendation, and boy, am I glad we did. The interior can be described as Buddha meets Broomfield. Hardwood floors and rock-encrusted walls peppered with Tibetan and Buddhist symbols thoughout. Prayer wheels, masks, scrolls and a tranquil waterfall feature all working together to create a, dare I say it, "zen-like" atmosphere. After being seated and ordering a "Good Karma" beer (hey, what can I say, I need all the help I can get), we were brought a basket of papadam with four dipping sauces (including mint chutney, cucumber raita, mango chutney and a fourth I couldn't identify). We ordered an appetizer of saag dig (creamed spinach) with naan (flatbread cooked in the tandoori oven). Now, I'm not normally a big fan of cooked spinach, but oh_my_Dalai_Lama, this was the best spinach I've ever had. Mild, smooth, and totally delicious. And the portion was HUGE! We ate like a couple of ravenous yaks, and still had plenty to bring home. The naan was also cooked perfectly, with a flawless match of both crunchy and chewy. Since I'd never had Tibetan food before, I skipped the more Indian-centric offerings and went for a Momo platter which included 8 dumplings (I chose a mix of veggie and beef), a cup of dahl soup, and a side salad. The salad, while beautifully presented, was totally forgettable. The dahl, on the other hand, was also an image of perfection. Hot, smooth, and exquisitely spiced. The dumplings were great. The veggie dumplings were similar to a Chinese dumpling, with cabbage, carrot and whatnot inside. Good, but not amazing. The beef dumplings, however, were out of this world. Delicate, yet hearty, with a wonderful flavor profile. My wife got the tikka masala with lamb. It too was delicious, but I think the lamb might have been too strong of a flavor to go with the rich, creamy sauce. All in all, the meal was fantastic, and it's obvious that the chef executes an uncommon skill to the food that he puts out. We'll definitely be back, and I encourage others to make the trek to Tibet's. You'll leave with with a full belly and a cleansed soul. Cheers! read more

Post-10 mi bike ride, I wanted something tasty...scanned Yelp, perused a bit and thought fall weather was probably good for spicier type food, and decided it was time to go to Tibet's again. It's been too many months. =O I placed a big to-go order of jal frezi chicken, garlic and cheese naan and their appetizer combo, which consisted of pakora (shrimp, chicken, veggie and panir [cheese]) and a lovely golden-brown samosa. They told me 15 minutes. I was skeptical on a Friday night, but have nothing but love and goodwill towards these good people. I got there in about 15 mins, and sat down at the bar with 2 other people who had placed to-go orders and were enjoying brews. Moderately busy for 5:45pm in small little Louisville. 2 guys said my order wasn't ready, and I nodded. 3 mins later, the wonderful waitress who came out and asked my name said "oh! your order's ready!" ...*Really*? Well, dip me in chickpea flour and Indian spices and call me pakora. :D Got it, and took off for home where some people and I were doing an online thing. I asked for extra garlic on the naan and I got it -- not *devastating*, but it'd make any self-respecting vamp freeze in their tracks. And I've got to say in all honesty, this particular order of naan was some of the best naan I've ever had, *ever*. Very warm but not hot, buttery, tender, no burnt areas or anything, and no skimping on the ingredients. May the various Hindu deities bless you people for your naan skill! The pakora was also quite tasty; golden-brown, not greasy, and a decent portion. I haven't devoured the perfectly fried samosa yet. The chicken is VERY tender, and generous pieces sit warmly intermingling with sliced carrots, cauliflower pieces, peas and slivered red peppers, fricasseeing in a soothing creamy and perfectly spiced tomato-onion cream sauce. OMFG, this is looking like a 5 star visit. I predict more frequent visits as the weather gets colder. SO HAPPY these folk are in my area! *AND* they gave me a free order of dahl/lentil soup as well!! Good karma just keeps rollin around... these people are so kind. I can't say enough good things about them. ***I JUST DISCOVERED their website does NOT have all their menu items listed...for example they have about half a dozen vegetarian dishes in addition to the veggie options already listed on their website. More like 3 1/2 stars. The dinner buffet is a good deal, for food that is mostly average. I wish they would make sure to refill the dishes (for the buffet), we had to wait a long time for naans (even if I understand, these can take a while to cook), but it's less acceptable for meat dishes that should simmer in the kitchen and be ready to serve. The place was not busy, and by 8pm, they were out of most offerings at the buffet. My biggest complain though is about the chicken. Whether a la carte or at the buffet both taste exactly the same, which is expected, but I don't think I'd want to pay that price again for such poor quality (my son had the chicken Tikka Masala a la carte). The meat was tough, as if it had been added at the end, in cubes (maybe kept frozen) in the sauce (which by itself was tasty.) Usually, the meat(beef, lamb or chicken) is simmered in the sauce and melts in your mouth. At Tibet's, the meat is tough and not the least infused with the spices. The rice pudding was fairly good, but I would have the same comment, it feels like is should have cooked longer, so that flavors really become part of the grain. So, a fairly good deal if you want to have dinner on a budget, but for average food (and less than average for the chicken dishes.) read more

I recently went with a friend here. I did the "don't ask, don't know" vegan survival method by asking what was vegetarian at the buffet. The food was very good yet found the service terrible. When I asked the Caucasian waiter for two waters without ice with a side of lemon. It took a very long time. I went up to ask a Tibetan woman who worked there for water & she pretended to not know English. She might not yet in this upper middle class town in Colorado yet one might never know. I asked the waiter again & he finally brought out the waters well after we started eating. Later I asked the waiter if he knew where the bathroom was. He said "yes I know where the bathroom was". He was silent until I asked him again then he told me. I told the Tibetan chef "great sagg" & he replied "yes it is great sagg" not making eye contact. So the service of the waiter & chef sucked as the smiling Dalai Lama in the restaurant in big frame above us would roll over in his grave by the lack of compassion of the staff if he weren't still alive yet they do sky burial in Tibet with vultures which is another story. As for the food it was pretty great. The saag was tasty, loved the chana masala, dissected the samosas at the table keeping the veggies inside while leaving the fried exterior, & was a good lentil soup. Found a lot of the non-veg pretty non-traditional Tibetan & Indian as it seems like it was prepared to the CO clients with a strong focus on the gluten-free paleo trend. My friend like me is vegan yet she asked the waiter beforehand what was vegan as I went by guessing. Spoiler: Later I found out only the samosas & lentil soup was vegan so the "saag" while not saag paneer probably had cream in it as did the curried chickpeas or chana masala as they say in India. Vegans might do better with the Chipotle next door & even if the food might not be foodie "great" the service is much better. Add some more vegan options & don't be rude to the customers is my motto. Wow. This place was worth the drive from Littleton. We were so hungry when we arrived. As we walked through the lovely restaurant to sit outside, I was so tempted just to take food from other diners' plates- that's how good the food looked. We started our meal with garlic and cheese naan. I had the delicious shrimp momo platter and my husband had chicken makhani. It reminded me of tandori chicken but not as heavy. His dish came with basmati rice. I prefer jasmine rice, but no big deal for us. Both of our meals came with dahl, a delicious lentil-type soup. Yum! Service was perfect.
