Back in April, my wife "tasked" me with finding a new oriental rug for our living room. Based on their outstanding reviews, I went to MOR and met David Mouradian, the face and, dare I say, personality of this family-owned business. After showing him pictures of our living room and explaining what we seemed to like, David showed me about 10-12 rugs and was very helpful explaining the differences between the styles/patterns, manufacture and quality, as well as appropriate sizing. With his guidance, I boiled it down to four and arranged to have them delivered to the house so we could see what they looked like with our furniture & colors (btw, I highly recommend doing this). My wife and I were so blown away, by how the rugs transformed the room, that we decided to buy one for our dining room as well. Both are hand-woven, tribal patterns from Afghanistan. Since then, I've taken four older rugs in for cleaning and one fringe repair....they look great! David and his team are exceptional at what they do. If you are simply buying a rug Melrose Oriental is fine. Nice selection to choose from. I brought a rug in to be cleaned and it was returned to me damaged. I understand you sign a waiver that states they can't guarantee spots will be removed but in my case they removed the dye from the rug, briefly mentioned it to me when I picked up my rug, never showed me what happened, and still charged me for the full cleaning despite damaging my rug. It seems like whoever was doing the cleaning didn't have enough expertise to know how to treat or clean my rug and irreparably damaged it. The fact that I was still charged the full amount for the cleaning felt disingenuous. They clearly knew they had damaged the rug as they mentioned it to me upon pick up. Not showing me the area affected when I was there felt like they were trying to hide their mistake. Be very cautious when you bring rugs here to be cleaned. read more

Can I give Dave and team 10 stars?? I had my grandmother's 9x11 handmade Chinese rug. It had never been cleaned in its life, had a huge hole chewed through it by a dog 30 years ago, and had sad fringe that needed removing. I took it to Melrose. I cannot overstate how incredible the workmanship was on my rug. The patch? Virtually invisible. The fringe? Like it was never there. Clean? Oh so clean. Dave and team took their time to do it right. They were quick but did not rush. Plus they accommodated delivery since they were in my neighborhood! And the price was so so reasonable for what I got. This business is just incredible. Great service, done on schedule, at a very reasonable price. I brought two rugs in here to be cleaned. They returned my braided rug in excellent shape, post-cleaning - you can't even tell it shared a house with a cat. The other one I brought in has water damage and the dye was running, plus the border was coming off. They repaired it basically for free, and it looks better than I thought possible. Now that we are adults, my husband and I decided we should have our rugs cleaned. Because that is just the sort of thing that adults do, right? Right. My mother-in-law is a Melrose local and mentioned that Melrose Oriental Rug provided a cleaning service, so I called to get details. The woman on the phone was delighted I called and curious how I found out about them and offered me a 20% discount as a new customer. I was given a blind quote with the understanding pricing may change depending on the make and actual size of the rug. I was surprised how reasonable the pricing was. I made an appointment to drop off the rugs and was given an estimate on when they would be ready. She let me know that they would be happy to help with unloading and reloading the rugs when we arrived. The rugs were ready in about a week, (perfect as we were going out of town). Upon pick up we learned one of our rugs was way nicer than we had known and it was handmade! (Woohoo Craigslist find!) they offered some tips on better caring for each of our rugs and never mentioned how much cat hair they likely cleared away. So nice of them. Our rugs looked more vibrant and definitely more plush. We are very satisfied with this service and wil absolutely return when it's time. I didn't know the old red rug even had a pattern. It was in the 'office' of a horsebarn for unknown years and had gotten pretty filthy. Others advised tossing it out, but I wanted to give it a chance. The shampoo crew at Melrose Oriental washed and washed and washed it to reveal a rich, jewel-tone pattern. And, now all the mud and stiffness is gone, the rug is very lustrous and soft. Really glad I didn't chuck it- it looks great, and no horse smells. My 84 yr old friend who is going thru a terrible time with her 86 yr old husband wanted to get rid of 20 beautiful oriental carpets. My daughter and I told her we'd buy 7 of them. Melrose Oriental came and said all or nothing so she gave the carpets to them. The humongous price of $1,000 was given. I'm not sure if that could be considered elder abuse but it certainly leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. This is a woman who's husband is in hospice and selling her apartment to move in with her daughter. A woman who's overwhelmed with everything that's going on and to take advantage of that is truly disgusting. Think about it - 20 Oriental carpets for a total of $1,000. read more

I was looking for an oriental rug for my living room area to coordinate with the tribal rug under the dining room table. I read some great reviews online about Melrose Oriental Rug so I gave them a call. I spoke with David, the owner, and he was willing to drive here to Salem to look at what I have and give me some ideas. My tribal oriental, though beautiful, looked too dark for under the dining room table, David said. He suggested placing it in the living room area where there is more light. I could definitely see his point. He said he'd check his warehouse for the right colors and the odd size I needed. David sent me a photo of a Persian rug with an ivory background and similar colors to my rug. He then brought the rug over so I could see it. It was perfect! He and his helper then proceeded to transform my entire living area. They carefully moved all my furniture and placed the rugs in their new places. Oh I like this place! I got a discount for bringing in my area rug (as opposed to getting it picked up) and they took a look at it with me to make sure they knew what stains I was looking to remove. They said it would take 2 weeks, which was no problem, and they texted me to let me know it was ready, easy peasy! My dhurrie rug came back bright and clean and it cost about $42. I live in J.P. Surely there's someone closer to home who cleans rugs. But I'll always call Melrose Oriental Rug. I first used them a few years ago when we moved into our newly renovated home and took our oriental rugs out of storage. They came to my house to pick them up and returned with them a week or so later. The rugs looked great and they took great care in laying them down for me, moving furniture as needed. David (the owner) came along both times. He's clearly very knowledgable and committed to making sure his customers are satisfied. But I really got sold on Melrose Oriental Rugs a few weeks ago. We had just bough a runner for our hallway. I think we had had it a week when our dog peed on it! I thought I'd clean it myself and used a rug cleaner and pet stain remover. I only made it worse! I was horrified and not looking forward to telling my husband (who, I'll admit, is more the oriental rug lover than I am). Fortunately he was out of town, which gave me time to try my last resort - M.O.R. I drove the rug up there, explained the situation (complete with my husband's ETA). David and his associates did a fantastic job with my hand tufted wool runner. It is a prized possession of mine and I have been too fearful to get it professionally cleaned since I purchased it seven years ago. It was fairly severely matted and dirty. I asked for a quote and David supplied one much lower than any competitor (about $30 for a thick 2.5x8 foot runner). The low quote actually made me nervous! Would they really do a good job on my carpet? I handled drop-off and pickup, since the carpet was too small for the business to pick up for me (I felt fine about this). The process did take two weeks, but for my favorite carpet with special needs, it was completely worth it. I've never seen this thing so clean and unbelievably soft. David and his team do a very thorough and careful job with their work. I will definitely be returning to them in the future. I only wish they did synthetics, too!
