I explained my project and he told me he would make time to arrive for a same-day quote at 6pm. Already off to a good start. I had been getting other quotes from other contractors around that time, and things were either taking too long, costing too much, or something just didnt seem right. With Francisco, he was incredibly personable, patient, understanding, timely, i could go on. For the first phase, during demo, he made sure to have several high powered vacuums, took care of any existing items to where there was no apparent damage. He is very efficient but wont rush a job and if something needs clarification he was patient enough to confirm our selections before proceeding. Some examples of this include schluter choice, baseboard profiling in certain areas, fireplace design, and more. We met him in march and he pretty much completed the kitchen, fireplace, hallway bathroom, floors, and other small projects in a matter of one month. He should be very proud of his work and we are hoping to work with him in the future. Pricing: very fair. I wont give details but i had 4 quotes in total. His pricing was the absolute best hands down. One quote i got had charged me 3x what Francisco did. To confirm, I entered all the project information into chatGPT and the number it predicted was very close to what several other contractors had quoted me. The AI verdict for JG & Sons pricing was a "Good Deal." Work: The main team members are Francisco and his son. How great is it to have a hands-on contractor? Once in a while there will be a variable 3rd-4th member depending on amount of work that day (demo, floors) They show up every day consistently at the same time. Safety is clearly important to them as i would often see them with eye protection, masks, knee pads, etc. Communication was excellent. Design: my wife had a particular design in mind for each project, whether it was the tile trim surrounding a smaller design that stood out in the kitchen backsplash, or the mantle with all the small brick tiles, all with much inspiration from online sources. Francisco made my wife feel heard with her design, offered some insight on realistic approaches and took these design projects on; which were done better than we had imagined. The deposit was provided while a contract was still being negotiated, and I was told it would be refunded if I chose not to proceed. I never signed anything, not the contract or no paperwork from the company, none at all. ********** My experience raises serious concerns about communication, transparency, and how deposits are handled. Initially, Carlos was very personable and professional--multiple visits, strong rapport, and a good first impression. Based on that, and verbally agreeing to review the contract I provided a $1,000 deposit while we worked toward finalizing an ADU agreement. During negotiations, the project cost unexpectedly increased by $50,000, which led me to reconsider moving forward. At that time, I was explicitly told the deposit would be refunded if I chose not to proceed. After I declined, communication stopped entirely. Then, three weeks later, I received an email reversing that position, stating the deposit would not be refunded and had been applied to "pre-construction/design services." There was no signed agreement clearly defining the deposit as non-refundable, nor a clearly agreed scope authorizing those charges. This kind of inconsistency and practice --being told one thing, then later something completely different--creates serious concerns that future clients should be aware of. I strongly recommend that anyone considering working with this contractor ensure: All terms are clearly documented in writing Deposit conditions are explicitly defined.
