True Rating is Minus 10. Terrible company. Stan is a real talker. Gave him $8,000 up front. Took 3 months to start and finally sent a couple guys to do work I hadn't asked for, but he said he was "throwing it in". Waited 4 months for "custom built" wood kitchen cabinets. He asked for another $10,000 so he could deliver them and install. I said NO and ended up giving him $5,000 more towards flooring. Cabinets come and they did not match what I had. He said they would make to match perfectly- white Quaker style. Measurements all off (smaller). The worker said they would be putting wood paneling to make up difference! Why would I want less cupboard space?? Then I overheard the worker tell other one in Spanish that he got home late night before cuz he was at Chino warehouse buying my ready-made cabinets!! What a rip-off. Fired Stan that day, had him take back his cabinets, and refund me for flooring. Got back just under $5,000 so he made $8,000 off me just to remove the fluorescent ceiling in kitchen. They left all trash in my backyard. Didn't cover anything while working so entire house was covered in dust for years. This happened about 4-5 yrs ago but I guess I was too angry to want to think or write about it until now. Stan used his Christianity to relate to me and convince me to hire him. I don't enjoy dragging somebody's business, but I also don't enjoy spending a large chunk of our hard saved money on garbage work and hopefully I can save somebody else from making the same mistake. I guess I will start by being open and up front and saying I put off doing this negative review for two years... we had such a terrible experience during installation of our LVP floors and the workmanship proved to not be great in the following year or two but my final straw that made me decide to finally write this review comes from being recently enlightened to yet ANOTHER issue with the quality of work. A couple of months ago we suffered severe water damage in our home and as a result, all of the LVP that Redstar installed in 2023 had to be ripped up and we found out they never even put a barrier under our flooring between it and the concrete. These guys cut SO many corners the entire job and this just has me livid again. SOME of the issues we had with Redstar- - What was supposed to be a 2wk job turned into 4wks - One of his workers stole a bottle of whiskey out of our cabinet. Had we noticed while the job was going on, we would have absolutely brought it up to Stan, however, we didn't notice it until we were moving furniture back into our house and at that point we were so sick of dealing with Redstar that we chose to let it go instead, however, there was absolutely nobody else in our house during this time (the house wasn't in living condition, so how could there have been?) so there's no way it was anybody else that took it. - Without our consent they modified our entry way steps almost permanently but we caught them. It was a rounded step down from the entry to our living room, Stan told us they could make the rounded edge work even with the LVP. We double checked with him because previous contractors told us no because it was round and the LVP is obviously not pliable but Stan said it was doable so we tr... well apparently his solution was to take the rounded edge and just make it a giant square! Which cut into our already small living room and looked horrendous! Thank God my husband works from home and came out of his office when he did, imagine his surprise that not only had they already framed the square out, but they were filling it with concrete without anybody even asking us if that was OK! It wasn't, they had to find another solution. - The house,was left FILTHY every day. Our kitchen was basically unusable the entire time. They made ZERO attempt to clean at all and make our home even remotely comfortable for us. I had to clean the kitchen daily to even be able to use a single countertop to make food. - Stan and his crew were supposed to level out some of the uneven flooring before installing the LVP and still, after already being installed, they had to rip up the floors, several places and level our area. They should have already done, but didn't because the floor would sink down or bend when you stepped on it. - Stan the owner was never on site unless we had an issue he had to come deal with. Idk where he got his workers but they were subpar, did subpar work. The only decent one who seemed to care at all was his supervisor Eric, who unfortunately also was rarely there until we were so fed up we demanded someone else finish the work. Very shortly after the work has been done , of talking within six months to a year max, there were already multiple planks that had cracked and we started noticing that the putty or whatever it is, they use in the joint of the flooring, was starting to fall out in multiple places. The only thing we clean our floors with warm water and vinegar so it's not like we were using harsh chemicals. I utilize Yelp a LOT for trusted recommendations on everything from food to construction services and everything in between and I felt guilty about not writing a negative review immediately after our experience with Stan and Redstar but to be completely honest, it was such a stressful experience (every day was something new, I dr dreaded coming home from work) on top of the fact that I was just done dealing with them on top of the fact that I didn't want to say anything negative that could possibly get in the way of our "1yr warranted on the work" if we need them to come back for anything so I just kept my mouth shut but honestly, I feel like this review needs to be put out there if it can save anyone from a fraction of the annoyance and headache we experienced with them! Finding out that the LVP was installed with zero barrier was my final straw. We paid over $13k for a shit job. I'll end it with this , our experience was so bad that we paid over $13,000 for the flooring, and when issues started to arise within the first year, we STILL didn't even want to bother contacting them to come fix the problems because we had SUCH a bad experience. Within a couple of days of our service request we had an in person consultation and the following morning the construction workers were at our house and ready to work. Three years after shower installation and tile job, tile is coming up and new contractor said the wrong material was used to bond the tiles in the shower and that it was kitchen bonding that was used. Would definitely not recommend. Now I have to hire a real contractor that knows how to do it properly and it's gonna cost about five grand to have it undone and redone the correct way. We hired Red Star to paint our living room, install a backsplash in the kitchen, and install overhead fans in several rooms in our house. Stan was very responsive and quick to get back to us if we had questions or concerns, which we appreciated. Despite being on a time crunch, Stan accommodated us into his schedule, and work started on the house a few days after we called. The workers who came in were all polite and hard working. They were done in the time frame that they promised, which worked for us because we needed to move in right away. We absolutely love the way the backsplash ended up. Redstar recently completed a complete remodel of one of my bathrooms along with some drywall work in my garage. They converted the bathroom from a builder grade tub to a walk in shower, and it turned out amazing. In addition to adding the shower, I also requested some non standard fixtures (in-wall sink faucet, European sink plumbing, and a threaded in toilet valve that I supplied) which were way more labor intensive then just throwing on a new vanity and patching some drywall. The guys had to replumb and reframe the sink side of the bathroom just to accommodate my selections. They also skim coated the walls and ceiling to get rid of the old knockdown texture that was patched and unsightly. I couldn't be happier with Redstar and the work they did in my house. Stan was fantastic to deal with and maintained excellent communication throughout the entire process. Eric and Tony's attention to detail and professionalism is truly unsurpassed. The grout lines are laser straight, the floor and walls are perfectly level, and there is no lippage on any of the tiles. Even going the extra mile to cut and wrap single tiles around the step to have the graining in the tile match up, as well as using 4 different grout colors to make sure everything matched the way I liked. Every step along the way they made sure everything was being accomplished the way I wanted, and anything I hadn't specifically mentioned or asked for, they confirmed with me to verify it was correct. They also did a hot mop shower pan that will last a lifetime instead of the much easier to do rubber liner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Red Star to anyone. Quality work that was done before some other companies even got back to me with estimates. My house was left cleaner then when they started, and they had all of the removed material and trash from the job picked up and hauled away. Let me first say that I have known Stan for a long time and never used his services until now. I was hesitant to mix my friendship with Stan with business especially when it comes to my house. After having an absolutely horrible experience with a previous company, we were looking on Yelp to find someone to correct the numerous issues we have still outstanding. We found a local company, that offers a discount to Veterans. Stan is the owner, and a Veteran, so it was nice to connect with a fellow Veteran in what has becoming an exceedingly difficult process. Ernie came out as soon as he could to assess our issues, and promptly provided us with an estimate. They scheduled our work within a few weeks (understandable given the current climate, and communicated the entire time with us), and have been transparent throughout the process. The three projects that they completed for us was to finish a bathroom that was about half way complete (adjusting the shower doors, refacing a cabinet with doors, and correctly hanging the lights in our restroom), correcting an incorrectly framed, wooden double door (large gaps between the frame and door, where debris was entering our room), and to create a kitchen pantry. Ernie was sent to complete our estimate, but our construction worker was Eric, and he did a phenomenal job. He was courteous and efficient, and arrived on time to the site. He communicated with us daily on the work that was being completed, and kept us apprised of any adjustments to the schedule. Eric made the process easy for us, especially after the difficulties and trepidation we had coming into the process. The work came out flawless, and we were very happy with the results. We worked with Stan, who was quick to respond and address any questions we had.
