May 16/2026: Dinner with my Al before the Neil Diamond show. Started off with a draft Sapporo ($9.99). Always liked this brand of Japanese beer. We decided to go with the combo meals. Mine was the Ginger Beef combo ($31.39). It came with Hot/Sour Soup, egg fried rice (for an extra fee, $2.00), a spring roll & dessert rice balls. Everything was good but NOT overly tasty including the dessert rice balls. Not sure what they were filled with. There were no specific issues except for the lacking of taste in the food. The service was very good & the wait staff looked after any requests we had quickly. This was a very clean restaurant that appeared well maintained. The bathroom was also clean. Food 3/5 Service 3/5 Ambiance 3/5 Food I came here for a holiday lunch with some co-workers. The place was super busy & there were no tables available. Waiting at the door they told us to make our order so that when a table is available we could just sit down & eat. I ordered a dish but asked them to take out the broccoli. They told me to order something else as they wouldn't make modifications. So I ordered the black bean beef instead. The dish was good but the vegetables that came with it were barely cooked. The onions were raw & the bell peppers weren't soft at all. My co-workers ordered a soup & some dim sum. The food was tasty but nothing special. Just regular chinese food. Service I thought it was smart that they took our order before we could get a table. The system is pretty efficient. I think it was so busy because it was the holidays and there also might have been a matinee at the theatre nearby. Once a table was free they cleared it away & got an extra chair for us since we were three people. Our food came pretty quickly because we had pre-ordered. Most restaurants will make modifications to dishes to allow for allergies but this place didn't seem keen to do so. I was a little disappointed about that. Ambiance This location looks small from the outside but it's a good size when you walk in. There are windows only at the front of the restaurant because this is a lower level location. The tables & chairs are a medium wood colour. The location looks clean but I didn't use the washroom so I can't tell. I find that the condition of a washroom can indicate how clean a restaurant is. I wouldn't eat here again. The food was pretty ordinary. I'd rather eat at Kinoya if I'm going to be seeing a show in the area. read more

This place gets really busy around noon on a weekday, and the place is pretty big with lots of tables. The service was quick but the food was very average. The braised beef soup noodle was not bad. I also got a variety of dim sum which were all very westernized. Definitely not a very authentic Chinese spot but I guess it wasn't awful. read more

Was in Toronto for the night and wanted to introduce my kids to dim sum. We got the there early on a Friday night so the response from staff was very fast. We ordered 4 different dim sum dishes including the pork soup, shrimp, and vegetable dim sum. All of the dishes were outstanding in flavor and freshness. We fished the night with the sesame balls as dessert. A little bit of sweetness with the crunchy sesame seeds on the outside was a nice way to end the meal. Would revisit if in Toronto again. I was downtown with a friend to attend a show at Roy Thomson Hall and we were looking for a place to grab a quick, light, and inexpensive bite before the show. That's not always easy to find in this neighbourhood. We ended up at Lee Chen Bistro, right across the street from the theatre. It turned out to be a great spot! We had their Braised Pork Belly Over Rice and Spicy Beef Tendon. Both dishes were very flavourful and priced right at 8.99 and 11.99, respectively. The service was good, friendly and efficient. I guess they cater to a lot of theatre-goers waiting to catch a show. They even have robots delivering food to diners. The restaurant, including the washroom, was very clean. A good place for some Chinese food in Downtown Toronto without going all the way to Chinatown. There was a good selection of foods on the menu. We came for lunch and ordered a mixture of shanghai style dim sums and noodles. Food came out fairly quickly, they even had this cute little robot helping with the food (gimminky I know, but cute none the less).   I actually quite enjoyed the noodle dishes we had. I might be biased as I love noodles though. The dan dan noodles were flavourful and spicy without it being overbearing. The cold sesame peanut chicken noodles was a very simple dish but it was in good ratio. Both of these probably would have been so refreshing in the summer time. We also ordered beef noodle soup, the noodles were a good texture and the broth was rich although it was not spicy. I also really enjoyed the sparerib bites. There was quite a bit inside the steamer and the flavour was really enjoyable.   Price wise, it was a little high per dish as the portions are not super big, but averaged out okay with the slighty cheaper dim sums and we were all super full after thanks to all the noodles. My only complain is that they charged us for tea, which was strange to me as this was not a true dim sum restaurant. Overall, an enjoyable lunch, and I would definitely like to try some of their other noodles again next time! read more

Conveniently located in the theatre district right across from Roy Thompson Hall, Lee Chen serves all day Dim Sum as well as main courses. We were there for dinner prior to a show at RTH, and were pleased with the quiet, intimate atmosphere and the friendly, efficient service. Clearly they are mindful of the agendas of theatre and concert goers, and the staff is assisted by a cute robot waiter. The menu is perfect for a pre-concert light but substantial bite to eat. There were many appealing dim sum choices, and it was difficult to choose a few among the tempting options. We selected the Fried Shrimp and Pork Dumplings, Har Gow (steamed shrimp dumplings), and Scallion Pancakes. All three dishes were delicious and generously portioned. The shrimps in the Har Gow were plump, juicy and tender, and the filling in the fried dumplings was so tasty and substantial We wanted something more than just dim sum, and, on the recommendation of a waitress in a bar next door, chose the Crystal Pork Belly with some steamed rice. The recommendation was an excellent choice! The Crystal Pork Belly is absolutely delicious. I was worried that they layer of fat would be ponderous and greasy, but i need not have been concerned: once each bite hit my mouth, the fat simply melted away into a rich and savory sauce for the flavourful, leaner portions of meat. Surprisingly affordably priced, especially for the neighborhood, Lee Chen turned out to be the perfect place for a pre-show bite to eat. read more

First time visit on our way to see CFA at the Royal Alex..we ordered the Soup dumplings, Dan Dan Noodles and Chicken pad thai. (The warmish oup dumplings were good but not awesome. Appears to be premade and la couple lacked soup or meat filling. The Dan Dan noodles had a good savory taste with some heat from the flavor. The pt was authentic and very good.) The green tea was falsely advertised as it was actually a blended jasmine green tea more emphasis on the jasmine floral.) The female staff were attentive but did not give us the comfort of a more personal private intimate dining experience. The male server that came with the food came quickly and was professional. Definitely has a modernish Chinese bistro vibe. The wooden support columns were a nice look but didn't suit the overall modern look to the dining area. After filling ourselves with fries and such over a few days in the city, we went searching for a lighter, veggie-packed dinner, and this place hit the spot! The hot and sour soup warmed me up on a chilly evening, packed with bamboo shoots and assorted mushrooms. We also shared the stir-fried bok choy with garlic, soup dumplings and the pork rice take dish -- plenty of food with leftovers for two. I highly recommend each of these dishes, and actually wish we could've dined in for another meal in order try more things. read more

Absolutely loved the Soup Filled Dumplings! These are such a fun treat if you have never tried them. I was really craving some Chinese food while visiting Toronto and looked around on YELP and found this gem. We were staying at the Hilton Toronto so the restaurant was just a few blocks away which made it a perfect spot. We decided to grab some late dinner here and loved the layout and atmosphere of the restaurant. It in the lower lever of open split area so you have to step down. We dinned inside but the restaurant has a has a nice patio. The patio fountain added a nice tranquil and inviting mood as you enter and you could look up towards the busy street. For dinner, we decided to order three appetizers and share the . We started with the Scallion Noodles ($7.99 CAD). These were really tasty noodles tossed with fried green onion in soy sauce. I would have like to have had some more green onions in the dish as after the were tossed it wasn't really that much but I am a fan scallions. The next dish was my favorite, the SOUP FILLED Pork Dumplings ($8.99 CAD). These came in a order of 6 and they are made with a special technique that creates a soup inside of dumpling after steaming. Careful and let these cool just a bit as the soup filling can be really hot. The third dish we had was the Pan Fried Shrimp, Pork & GarlicChives Dumplings ($9.99 CAD). These came with 6 as well. Great spot and though they have guest Wi-Fi the password didn't work and they were not about to trouble shoot or ask any other employee or manager. The server just repeated it 3 or 4 times and just walked away when we kept saying it didn't work for either of us. It was ok as the food came in a decent amount of time and we ate and left. Highly disappointing. We got soup dumplings, fried pork dumplings, beef and broccoli and general Tsos shrimp. Everything was just off. The soup dumplings came with an orange vinegar sauce instead of a ponzu- type sauce and the meet inside was not a cohesive ball. They were also incredibly small. The pan fried pork dumplings came with the same sauce which was disappointing. The beef and broccoli was inedible. It came out Luke warm in a gelatinous clear yellowish sauce. The general tsos shrimp was described as lightly bartered on the menu. There was 0 batter on it, it was covered in onions and we sent it back. Weirdest general Tsos I have ever ordered. I needed to eat something shortly after leaving to get the taste of the beef and broccoli goop out of my mouth. Everything comes out on a robot that the waiter has to unload the food from so there is no point to the robot. Everything came out so fast that I honestly think it was microwaved. Rice is extra. Multiple thumbs down on this place and I don't know how the reviews are so high. read more

A nicely decorated restaurant that really dies down after about 7:45-8, likely because most diners are part of the pre-theatre group. Be forewarned that the restaurant closes at 9pm. My group was not going to see a show so we had a reservation for 7:30 and we were the last diners there at 9pm. The music was off and it was clear they wanted us to leave. I ordered the smashed cucumber salad and the Szechuan scallops and shrimp. The salad was not very flavourful. The seafood dish was not spicy. We came here for dinner before a show at the Princess of Wales theatre. We have always passed by but this was the first time going to this restaurant. It is a very big restaurant with lots of tables. They have robots delivering food to the tables. It is Taiwanese style food with soup filled dumplings, noodles, etc. the service was good and they checked with us to see if we were sure we wanted 2 bowls of rice as we ordered a lot of carbs. Came here for team lunch for CNY. Oh man. This place is packed! When we got to the reception desk, the group in front of us did not have a reservation. They were turned away. Glad we did book the day before. Anyhow, Chinese food option in the financial district can be rare. And when my colleagues proposed this place. I was thinking, let's give this a try. We got here and were led to our table. After we sat down, I saw the other tables were filled up in 15 mins. Talk about busy. One good thing is they got a lot of staff roaming around to deliver food. Yet, they were super busy regardless. We ordered our food and I went with the business lunch with meatball. The food did come out shortly after. The sauce for the meatball isn't super salty. If you find yourself in downtown Toronto looking for asian food, head to Lee Chen Asian Bistro. The place is downstairs from the sidewalk and is huge inside...I mean huge. I suspect they do a great lunch business, but we came after a hockey game on our way back to the hotel. The service was prompt and always available if you need anything. The bar/beer scene doesn't offer a lot, but there are a few options to pick from if your in need. The spring rolls and chicken dumplings were really, really good. I had sweet and sour chicken which is some of the best I have ever had anywhere. I definitely would go back and probably spend more time ordering a lot of dim sum as there is a lot to pick from if that is your jam. They have a huge menu and one trip is not going to satisfy your palate. read more

Wonderful Chinese restaurant serving Shanghai Cuisine! I thought this would be a tiny place with mediocre food, but it exceed expectations. The food was authentic and plentiful with great prices. From the moment I walked in, I was wowed by how beautifully decorated, clean and expansive the dining room was. Service was very pleasant and quick. We came in half an hour before closing. I thought we would be turned away, but the staff was very polite about letting us know that they were closing soon but that they could still serve us. We were gently reminded about getting our order in, last call, and closing our bill without feeling rushed. The food exceeded my expectations. We got xiaolongbao soup dumplings, pickled greens noodle soup, green onion pancake, and fried potstickers. Everything was delicious and very well priced. The portion sizes were generally good. The noodle soup was massive and a great size for sharing. Literally the worst Xiao Long Bao I've ever had. The frozen ones from HMart are better. The service is non attentive and honestly pretty pretentious for a Chinese restaurant. This was a shot in the dark find with a few friends in Toronto. Oh man, what luck in finding this place. Walking in, it was apparent it was the type of place that locals in the know, frequent. We went with a tapas approach. Crushed cucumbers, dumplings (steamed and fried), noodles (cold sesame and Dan Dan), and sesame balls. Everything was a home run. Tasted as authentic as I would imagine. Everything was fresh and just right! Noodles had a perfect chew, dumpling skins were a perfect texture, the tea was great-everything was a home run.
