The staff services are welcoming and I am very exciting to try six different types of cuisines in their tasting menu. The food presentation is excellent and all the dishes taste decent. Came here for the peaking menu and dim sum. Left feeling a little disappointed. The taste is really light for both the dim sum and Chinese food. I know that it is canto style, but it's missing some seasoning. We were in a private room, so our server was pretty attentive. read more

Back for another group lunch event hosted by a retailer in the mall. Excellent as usual. This is the go to high end place in Yorkdale. And it's not just mall specific. It holds up throughout Toronto. Seafood is a must here and they do Alaskan snow crab really well. Wagyu dish was also fantastic as was the sea cucumber. The glazed pork was good as well. Green sea bass was solid. Lamb chops were excellent. Both soups were mediocre and I would pass on those. Abalone was cold and the alcohol marination was a miss for me. Fried rice was way too dry. Came here because my SIL was craving lobster (and is pregnant so we listen LOL) All the other food items aside from the lobster we got were fantastic! We had a lovely server too that helped us with some recommendations. The lobsters we got 2 ways just because we wanted to try it out. Was a wonderful decision too. We went to Yu Seafood as walk-ins and were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to wait long to be seated. The place has a really nice, upscale vibe -- modern décor and a classy atmosphere. We were seated in a semi-round booth, which was cozy, but it happened to be right beside their POS system and dish station. It got pretty loud and distracting at times with all the clattering and staff movement. Our server Justin was fantastic -- super friendly, attentive, and always on top of things. He kept our table spotless, and our tea and water were constantly refilled without us even asking. Service was definitely a highlight. Here's what we ordered: * Har Gow - 4/5 (nice texture and flavor) * Siu Mai - 5/5 (perfectly seasoned and juicy) * Crispy Spring Roll - 3/5 (not as crispy as expected and a bit bland) * Baked BBQ Bun - 5/5 (loved the cookie-like crust and balanced filling) * California Roll - 2/5 (too wet and didn't hold together well) The washroom could use a bit more attention (2/5 for cleanliness). Upscale Chinese restaurant that offers delicious food, great ambiance, and impeccable service. We came here for dim sum and left extremely impressed by the entire dining experience. The dim sum was excellent, the prices are actually very reasonable, and our server was very attentive, especially given that a couple members of our party had allergies to certain ingredients that are common in Chinese cooking. The restaurant has a modern and upscale decor. You check in on the ground floor (reservation highly recommended) and are then brought to the 2nd floor where the seating is. Menus are presented via an iPad, on which you will also place your order. Everything in the menu has pictures and prices so there are no surprises. The food and presentation is excellent but the front of house is severely lacking. Terrible. Snooty welcome, ok....it's a snooty mall so maybe they think being rude makes ppl feel elite?... Fine, dude, I'm here to spend money so I'll accept the elite attitude. ....but ... I would expect excellent table service then right? Wrong. 20 minutes just to get a server to say hi and bring tea. This place has everything: ambiance, service and amazing food. Honestly it was the best har gow I've had in years. Now I don't usually eat at high end places but my sister has taken me to other good places in Markham and it was good but this one took me back to my initial love for this dumpling and my youth. THIS is why I love them and honestly most places make them ok but this place was the bomb! I'd go back just to eat them. However they also has these eel dumpling that were so tasty as well. Unique to this restaurant as well. We had the lunch special for 2 for $90 plus a few extra dim sum dishes. Their shrimp are fantastic quality. Their ham sui gok (glutinous dumpling) looked like the pears was presented so beautifully, but I think some may find it too much dough, not as much filling but if you grew up eating it like I did, you'll be fine. Otherwise I'd skip it. The wu gok (taro dumpling) were excellent! Not greasy crispy and the filling was really good. The chicken & veggie dumpling was good but didn't blow my mind. The spring rolls were excellent as well mostly shrimp in fact I thought they were shrimp rolls. I would have preferred a sweet and sour sauce or some other type of dipping sauce. Crazy (not Rich) Asians.. access denied!!! After a lengthy stroll at the Yorkdale mall (supposed to be a luxury brand mall?!?) a couple of times, our stomachs were calling to be fed. We decided on this restaurant since it's conveniently located inside the mall plus it was supposed to be good. We were greeted by the hostess and led to an elevator to go up to the 2nd floor where the dining area is located. At the upper floor, we were greeted by the friendly staffs and had us seated. The dining area had that mid level'ish appearance and atmosphere (sorry, some said high end but looked pretty average to mid level to me). It was spacious with a quiet atmosphere. After scanning through the menu, here were the food I ordered before the whole crazy Asian drama slowly unfolded; 1. Sliced chicken marinated in Chinese wine. It was okay, had much better ones in terms of taste and presentation wise. 2. Fried king prawns. Tasted nothing special; taste and size wise I don't know which part of it is king when it's $8/pc. 3. Typhoon sheltered style soft shell crab. Okay everyone knows I love my soft shell crab, let's just say the picture speaks for itself, just scratch this off the to eat list. 4. Peking duck (3 courses). A) The skin was pretty good with a nice golden brown colour BUT the meat was as dry as Toronto's 35 degree sidewalk. The pancake wraps were fresh and nice thickness. B) the minced duck meat served in lettuce wraps. The minced duck meats were slightly deep fried or ran through hot oil, it's a fifty dollar fail, some people like it but I personally preferred it to be wok fried to give it that nice wok hay and flavour. C) duck aburi oshizushi. Nice little fusion take on this, decently okay. 5. Stir fried pea tip with garlics. Definitely need to some better wok'ing to bring out that nice garlic taste and aroma with the pea tips. 6. Fresh crab meat and egg white fried rice. I think the crab ran away, no hint of crab whatsoever. 7. Pan fried green pepper with fish paste. It was okay, pretty basic. 8. Wok fried AAA beef. The beef was tender but the sauce was a bit too overpowering. 9. Deep fried prawns. It was okay, a unique taste with the thousand island sauce. The atmosphere had that quiet vibe attempting to radiant a mid level dining experience. I definitely wouldn't categorize it as an high end restaurant, too many elements were missing for that, but high end price maybe. Nevertheless, it's a quiet dining atmosphere here. The food was a bit disappointing considering how it prides itself but when reality was tasted, most of the food was pretty mediocre at best, definitely didn't live up to its own marketing hype. (Or what they said is true? Quantity is in Toronto, quality is in Vancouver?) As for the service... it was literally like the opening scene from the movie, crazy rich Asians, but in our case we aren't crazily rich (damn it!). When we entered the restaurant from our waitress till the first dish came out, everything was fine. Then the drama began, when my friend who got an allergic reaction to the wine chicken wine dish, she excused herself to go downstairs to Shoppers Drug Mart to get some allergy meds. When she tried to re-enter the restaurant, the same hostess who greeted us, refused her to enter unless she can provide details about our table and who's she here dining with (like WTH... really?? She literally had to call me to go down to the waiting area to pick her up). When the manager came to speak to me, the only response was, "sorry, I will bring this matter to the staffs and talk to the hostess". Look, I understand, sometime things and mistakes can happen, BUT DO NOT humiliate your customers. And don't be ignorant and profile your customers too. This kind of BS literally ruined the entire dinner for everyone at the table and just a simple sorry doesn't cut it. I am not asking and don't want a free dinner out of this, but management could've handled and calmed the situation with my friend better after being humiliated in front of other customers by the hostess. recommendation and repeat DENIED! read more

This is a second location of this high end and classy franchise and it is 2 years old at this giant mall location. As we had a weekday dim sum before 11:30am, we enjoyed their promo of 15% off on dim sum. They also offer some very exotic dim sum items with some beautiful and artsy presentations. This was the best dim sum outing of the 3 Toronto outings we had on this trip. In this good-eats town it takes real savvy, skill, and expertise to be the best. They also have the most artsy dim sum presentations I've ever personally encountered, including dim sum houses in Hong Kong. There weren't many other customers at the time (maybe 3 other parties) and we were situated overlooking a mall corridor from their second floor location. The rest of the huge restaurant was empty but its size shows they must have a huge volume of weekend and dinner time traffic. The upscale Yorkdale mall is in fact one of the largest in North America so the traffic is here. Last year we ate at Yu Seafood's flagship location and it was packed and vibrant. I would say the dim sum experience is better there than at this empty location but the food itself is top notch at both locations. Have a look at the photo of the final bill for what we enjoyed - it was 10 excellent quality and artsy dim sum items for a pre-tip total of $122.29 CAD or $89.92 USD. Ordering is done via an i-Pad only here. Particular standout items were their shrimp red rice rolls, baked charcoal puffs, deep fried shrimp dumplings, king crab dumplings, and the crispy glutinous dumplings. Ha, actually they were almost all standouts with maybe the most relatively lackluster being the fish skin dumplings. Being in a big Western mall, they accept credit cards. When I first heard that Yu Seafood was opening in Yorkdale I was curious to see how they would fit in with the high end atmosphere of the mall and other restaurants there. We had a work function here with the booking of a VIP room. It required a minimum spend of $2000 but no rental fee. They also auto charge 18% for gratuity. The decor was super classy. To get to the VIP room, you had to take an elevator upstairs and then it was in the back which provided a lot of privacy. We were assigned a specific service personnel and she was super attentive all through. We ordered for 12 people. The main highlights were the king crab, the lobster mountain and the fried rice pyramid. Yes I know that's gimmicky but it had tons of scallop, it was amazing! For me the steamed king crab with chilies was by far the best dish. It was fresh, had just the right amount of kick and super flavorful. The baked with cheese was also amazing. It didn't feel too heavy and was very tasty. The lobster mountain came nearly last so we were stuffed. It did feel a little dry though. The jelly fish was interesting because usually I would expect shreds (almost like noodles) but this was more like pieces or slices. We had many more dishes but these were the highlights! PS - they let you take a photo with the crab when it's still live. That was super touristy but fun. read more

Would have given 2.5 stars based on my one-time visit for Dim Sum/Lunch, but my parents said we just went on a bad day and the food (at least for Dim Sum/Lunch) usually is amazing. I rounded up to 3 stars because I really liked one dish, 定海神針, which is shrimp sticks wrapped in a sheet of crunchy seaweed. Great juicy and crunchy combo! The hargow and siu mai were standard. The bean curd roll was not juicy or umami enough. The baked BBQ pork buns looked so beautiful but were SO sweet, and it only got sweeter as we proceeded to the steamed ribs and the pork knuckle stew. The steamed ribs had very little flavor. The pork knuckle stew simply left me in disbelief... I barely ate the egg drenched in the stew. It was 10x sweeter than any brown sugar ginger soup I have ever made. The one flavor other than the overbearing sugariness was the strong ginger... My only expectation when I ordered the pork knuckle was to be able to taste the soysauce... Lastly, I thought they couldn't go wrong with one of my favorite desserts, the molten custard salted egg yolk buns. They looked beautiful and the bao was chewy and steamy, but the custard was not molten at all. The filling is usually runny, according to my parents. They must have either made a mistake this time, or they reheated a previously steamed batch and served it, which would explain the over-steamed interior. I left pretty disappointed. It is a far drive from downtown, and the wait is long. The waiting area was crowded with a mini aquarium, many families here for celebrations (holding exquisite cakes too). I would recommend against getting the set menus because I generally have misgivings about Asian food places going for traditions considered more fancy and/or westernized. The energies mismatch and it gives exhibitionist. I even thought the interior design/decoration here was over-the-top. I go to Chinese/Canto/Taiwanese/Korean restaurants for the hole-in-the-wall vibe. The "elevated" effort should be put into the food instead of the other aspects. I was pretty impressed by Yu Seafood over the weekend. Our Saturday lunch experience went smoothly and that's usually hard to do when you take your 14 month out to eat with you. Reservations were easy and plentiful via OpenTable. They accommodated our kiddo easily with a highchair and were able to store the stroller downstairs. They were also able to prepared steamed broccoli (off menu) for my kiddo to eat. Super kid friendly spot. Ordering is pretty fancy and hi-tech from an iPad. I sorta prefer the old school pencil and paper, but this works. Just don't forget to swipe left and right to view different sections of the menu. Definitely some "upscale" fancy pants dim sum. For example, rice rolls with Angus Beef, Sea Urchin Siu Mai and Grouper Dumplings with Gold Leaf. Everything was tasty. I wouldn't spend this much on dim sum regularly, but for the special occasion or infrequent splurge, yes. In my mind, the service, atmosphere and baby-friendliness are worth the high price tag. I've been to Yu Seafood in Richmond Hill before so was really happy to see they opened a new location at Yorkdale. This new location is definitely very grand and beautifully decorated. It's not super busy currently as they are pretty new and mostly cater to shoppers at Yorkdale (it's a nightmare parking here on weekends). As expected, it is a little pricey but well worth-it for the ambiance, service and quality of food. For dimsum, you have your usual items like har gow and siu mai but they also serve some pretty cool dishes like eel rice noodle rolls and angus beef puff pastries. I was a little shocked that tea was $12 per pot (regardless of the number of people) because there were just two of us at the time and we barely drank the tea. Their dimsum is pretty good and definitely good quality. However, prices can add up if you want to try different dishes so it would be better to go with a larger group. I visited another time for dinner and really enjoyed their actual dishes like stir-fry lobster, Peking duck, veggies, and soups. Their Peking duck, although a little pricey at $128, came with a generous portion of duck, pancakes, sauces, and garnishes. I swear I had so many wraps whereas I'm usually fighting for the last pancake. The second duck course of stir fry duck meat and lettuce wrap was also very delicious without being too greasy. The lobster, garlic gai lan and fish maw soup that we got were also delicious although nothing crazy special. At the end of the meal they gave us free taro sago dessert and it was sooo refreshing! They were not as good as they look. And the panna cotta was dense, and the tea was expensive. Jasmine $12, Silver needle $20 - and they were served carelessly. Just putting leaves and hot water, and it is how they were served. When I asked if it was steeped enough and ready to drink, the server said yes. But all I saw was almost just hot water. I had to wait to get it steeped - the server did not care about the importance of tea for dim sum, and they charged for them a lot. The only item that I recommend is Crispy Shrimp Croquette with Foie Gras. They were plumpy and juicy. Enjoyed a lot! 　 Final note - we were given a tablet to order. One of my favourite dim sum spots! Location: Located in Yorkdale, across from the RH. Classic Yorkdale parking - or take the TTC! Food: Great dim sum. Innovative pieces, while still maintaining true to the classics. They have some cute presentation, like the taro dumplings that look like little swans. Lately, we've also enjoyed the okra. It's a little simpler, but that lets the ingredients shine through. Service: Good service, attentive and responsive. Nicely designed venue, definitely matches the more prestigious vibes of Yorkdale. Quality of food is evident. Overall good service, hospitable. Presentation is nice. Definitely higher price point. Dim Sum overall is flavorful without being too oily. In terms of portions, less pieces but each is well seasoned and fresh ingredients used. My recommendations would be their durian pastry which is on the sweeter side but does highlight the umami of durian. Another dish to consider is their steamed buns which are quite soft and fluffy, not dry and steamed at the right temperature for the right texture and outcome. Stir fry is decent but nothing special considering the price point. Cha Siu is fragrant and good balance of sweet from the honey glaze and salty from the soy base. Overall a nice high end dimsum place but I do wish they had more classic options. Rice noodle rolls were well steamed and perfect consistency, thickness and texture as well. Servers and hostess were very attentive and friendly from the start to the end, coming by to change our plates multiple times (too many times lol). The restaurant was really hot (and this is coming from someone that's always cold). I believe we got an 8 person meal with some add ons but we were a party of 15 or so and there was still a lot of food leftover! Tbh, I didn't think there was anything special about the food. A few of the dishes were actually quite salty too. The "tortilla" that comes with the peking duck was also kind of thick (I prefer the thin kind). I did enjoy the fruity sago dessert though! We came here for dim sum and we were blown away. The food has a bit of a different take on some of the classics and it's really well done. Everything tasted amazing and it was a fun culinary experience. We ordered so many things that it would take me too long to list and we were happy with each and every item. The service is really good and you have a pleasant end-to-end experience - fancy tablets to order from, quick to bring out the food and answer questions, constantly checking on the tea, and packing your food in lovely packaging when you want to leave. Made reservation for a weekday lunch and we got the best spot in the restaurant! We got a quiet corner that looked out to RH restaurant. We felt comfortable sitting there because of the sunlight and spacious tables. The indoor dining area felt really dark and sad, I'm glad we didn't get that. We ordered the dim sum lunch menu for two ($78) and a side order of the king crab dumpling ($13) and sea urchin siu mai ($13). Honestly, the lunch menu was more than enough for 3 people. The siu mai and dumpling were both tasty and big portion, but I found two bones in the dumpling. I think they used too much starch for the crab to stick though.. Individual restrooms and super clean. I saw a lady walking around with a dyson too! Suggest making reservations, much quicker than expected. I would definitely come back for a special occasion because it's pricey! read more

Over Christmas, I visited Toronto from NYC and ate here THREE times over a span of 4 days. Can't say each of those times were by choice as we were guests visiting family, but absolutely no complaints here - every meal was extraordinary and decadent. I wish there was such a high-quality Cantonese (w/ Japanese/sushi options) establishment like Yu's here in NY. I was told that the sushi chef is Chinese but trained in Japan, hence the effortless fusion of the two cuisine's seafood styles. First off, the service and environment is top notch. I always sat at a booth towards the back and felt very safe/isolated to be indoor dining here. Upon settling in, they provide zip lock bags for you to hold your mask while you are eating - how considerate. The interior is sleek, spacious, modern & chic, definitely matching the elevated dim sum and dinner options they offer. It's the perfect venue for a celebratory family meal, a nice date night, or a pre- or post- shopping meal inside the Yorkdale mall. As for the amazing food, my first meal here was dim sum. Huge SHOUTOUT to their Eel Avocado Rice Noodle Rolls... WOW. Literally two of my favorite foods combined in one (eel avocado roll & cherng fun). Never in my wildest dreams did I think this could be a thing. Everything about it is perfect - texture, taste, creativity. 100% recommend. I was also excited to try the Sea Urchin (uni!) Siu Mai but that wasn't very worth it since I barely tasted the uni. Everything else was lovely though, like the Crispy Glutinous Rice Dumplings shaped like pears! I also loved that we were able to order from the sushi bar during dim sum/lunch. Again, I never knew that I needed a fusion like this in my life. For the following 2 meals I had here, I returned both times for dinner. And both times, we got the 38 pc Sashimi Platter... Some of the freshest fish I've ever had in my life. So so so delicious and even came with gold flakes, caviar, and truffle on the side. As you can probably tell, we ate GOOD. We also tried the Peking Duck (3 courses) for one of the dinners, which was magnificent. The pancakes were definitely the best out of the 3 courses, while the Taro Balls were unfortunately very heavy with the taro. At the other dinner, I tried some of the classics that did not disappoint like the stir-fried filet of sole and the Singaporean noodles. The standout, however, was a special request. We asked for anything with wagyu from the sushi bar and the chef understood the assignment. He graciously presented us with wagyu nigiri WITH foie gras on top. It was one of the best bites I've ever had. Price wise, of course this is a bit on the expensive side but it's not anything outrageous. It's well worth it for the spectacular quality of food, service and atmosphere. The servers are friendly, accommodating and always make sure that your teacup is filled with tea. I thought I'd get sick of this place, but I don't think I even scratched the surface with the rest of their seafood offerings. NEW location of Yu Seafood is now opened at Yorkdale Mall (near Restoration Hardware). My family came here to for a birthday celebration, and we really enjoyed the food, service and the upscale atmosphere. The restaurant is upstairs on the 2nd floor. They have booths and tables for small and large groups and very spacious! The menu is viewed with an iPad, there is Chinese and English menu available. We ordered the Shrimp Toast to start, and it was a hit! We couldn't find it on the menu; it was recommended by our server. We also ordered the BBQ pork aka cha siu for appetizer, it was super fatty (if you enjoy fatty cha siu, this is for you!) For main, we ordered the Alaskan Crab (eaten 2 ways). There is a list of flavours/sauces you can pair with your crab.... I think we did ginger scallion, and truffle flavour. The legs were fantastic, super meaty and fresh, would definitely order just the legs again! We also ordered green bass fish, pea sprouts, and stir-fry udon - they were all very tasty. We pre-ordered Longevity Birthday Steamed Buns (Shòutáo Bao - 寿桃包) for the birthday girl, and they presented a basket of freshly steamed buns at the end of our meal. They didn't charge us for the buns, and also gave us Mango sago dessert as well :) Thank you for such a nice dining experience. We will definitely be back again! This is Yu Seafood's second location, the first one is located at Richmond Hill. Service is good and ambiance reminds me being back in Central in Hong Kong. The way the menu works reminds me of Lee Wah Heen where most of the stuff are ordered by the piece or one order consists of two pieces. You order off the iPad. For example, the King Crab Dumplings (2pcs) for $13.00 Sea Urchin Siu Mai, one order 2 pcs for $13.00 . The tea is per tea pot so it is not like the regular dim sum restaurant where there is a flat rate per person for the tea. We ordered the WuYi Hong Pao $16.00 and the Jasmine $12.00. The prosperous dim sum platter $35.95 is a good sampler. The lobster noodle roll is served with a lobster bisque. This dish was okay as it lacks the sweetness in the lobster. Overall an amazing location and very good ambiance where I can drink unique cocktails while having dim sum. read more

First time eating at a fancy place, I decided to treat myself and my boyfriend because they were having a dollar oyster promotion. The restaurant is spacious and there are no small tables it seems. It's kind of dark, and pretty loud. The service is extremely polite and kind, but not that attentive. It was a bit hard to flag down a server. Overall though, I think most of the fees go into service. The food is very normal. It's good, but the prices are pretty high. The total came out to about $110 for two people, we had yangchow fried rice, half soysauce chicken, half a dozen oysters and the fried taro pastry. The taro pastry was pretty good- the outside is crispy and the inside is soft. I enjoyed it, but it was $8 for two. The yangchow rice was okay as well, the pork was rather ordinary. The half soysauce chicken was good- it doesn't come out hot. The oysters were okay. For drinks, we had jasmine tea and the fuzzy peach bellini. I was a bit bothered that they didn't tell us that the tea was an extra charge. It's refillable at least. The fuzzy peach bellini was really good. I recommend it. Overall, really pricy and the food was just okay. You're mostly paying for the service. read more

This is a fancy Chinese restaurant located in Yorkdale mall. The restaurant itself has beautiful decor making it a great place for gatherings, and the service was good as well. However, I was quite disappointed by the taste of their dim sum. Despite the creative and eye catching presentation, the flavours were not comparable to other dim sum restaurants I've been to. The streamed dumplings, which are usually my go to item at any dim sum restaurant, tasted as if it was purchased frozen and then resteamed for customers. You also need to eat the dumplings as soon as it comes out, because if you are like me, busy chatting and catching up with my friend, and letting food get cold, you will find that the skin of the dumplings gets a little hard once it has cooled. Maybe their dinner menu would be more satisfactory, but I would not go back for the dim sum. read more

A hidden gem for us since I never associated Yorkdale with quality dimsum, but we were pleasantly surprised!! The dimsum was very well presented and relatively tasty. It's been a couple of months since we visited so unfortunately I can't accurately review each item, but I can say everything exceeded our expectation - except for the bun since we expected a more gooey filling. The ambiance is that of an upscale western/Asian fusion restaurant, great for dimsum/dinner dates, special occasions. The price tag is pretty comparable to other upscale dim sum restaurants. Given the size of each order, I would say it's a good bang for the buck. Our server was friendly and smiley, very pleasant and attentive. Will return for more dimsum dates! read more

After a long yet fruitful day at work, I decide to reward my hardworking with a fine dining experience. The Yu Roast Duck is calling and tonight I am not sharing it with anyone else! It is a bit embarrassing since this would be my fifth time to have the same duck within the past 6 months. Yu Seafood Yorkdale feels like home to me. Service is great, Ambiance is elegant and quiet. There are no more than 5 Cantonese restaurants at the GTA that can fully satisfy my picky tongue and my high expectations for fine dining experience. Yu Seafood Yorkdale is one of them and definitely my most go-to whenever I feel like celebrating or relaxing in comfort.
