My wife's horrible experience My wife wanted to get a cosmetic procedure on her teeth for many years but we couldn't afford it. We started to save for a very long time. When Covid came she ended up not being able to work so we figured now is the best time since she would need a lot of rest. We went through the first procedure to have bone graph put in by another doctor. After 6 months of that healing we scheduled an appt with Dr. Howard Lien to have the posts put in . During day of surgery we came in and they sedated her and put in 6 posts into her upper jaw. Our follow up appointment was 1 month later during that appt he put more stitches in and said she needed a deep cleaning . Follow up appt after follow up appt each time adding more stitches and more deep cleaning. Over the 6 months of stitches my wife couldn't stand the taste in her mouth. On our 5th appt he wanted to install the teeth which we had a very bad feeling since it didn't look right. We got a second opinion and that dentist said it was the worst he's ever seen and Dr lein put to many posts in to close to each other and didn't put them deep enough. They were suppose to be 90 percent or more and he was at 70 to 80 percent. The taste my wife was tasting is the dead bone in her jaw. He spoke up about malpractice and said we would have to do everything all over. We went to 3 other specialists with every one saying the same. When we reached back out to Dr Lein to tell him and he said I will refund you the money and that he was sorry. How can you keep adding stitches and want to install the teeth if you knew it was messed up ?!?! I asked him what about the $8000.00 we had to pay for the bone surgery and he said NO since we didn't pay him for the bone graph. He completely damaged the bone graph that the previous surgeon did perfect. My wife's gums are damaged for life now and we have another year and half to two to get them to where she can have teeth with a look that was worse then when she first started. This has been a complete BOTCHED nightmare!! OMG...I cannot believe these other reviews for this office...I wish I knew about YELP before I chose to go to this dental office 3 years ago. They are total SCAMMERS!!! Everytime I went, they find cavaties...I am starting to believe they are drillling holes then filling it up for $. Dang it!!! I am getting frustrated at myself for being their patient for over a year. I chose this office because they are located near my old job and because they spoke Cantonese (whyyyyy did I do that?? I could speak perfect English too). Another thing I did not like was the inconsistancy in dentists. I get different dentists working on my teeth everytime. The dentist removed 1 of my wisdom teeth horribly! He used numbing shots, but it still hurt and I was screaming in pain. My one side was swollen and painful for 3 weeks and my lip on that side was numb for 1 year. (So he almost permanently damaged my nerve beyond repair.) I went to another dentist to get my other 3 wisdom teeth removed. It went faster and there was no pain during the procedure. (I was awake.) There was no pain at all and no swelling after 2 DAYS! Don't go to this shitty dangerous dentist. Who knows how my nerves could of been damaged if I wasn't awake to feel the pain. I had no problems with the teeth cleaning. Fack this place!! I've never had a cavity until I became a patient here. Apparently I needed a crown on one of my tooth. Had it done. It screwed up my bite. Had to go back several times for them to "shave" it. So i'm wondering, did they ever use the molds they took of my teeth? Or just charged my insurance for it? Scammers. When I went to another dentist, the first thing he asked me was, "were you born in the United States? Cause your dental work looks foreign." WTF does that mean?! A week ago Dr. Thinh Vu while thoroughly cleaning my teeth found a cavity in my #7 so I went back today to get it filled. What a job Dr. Howard Lien did for me in less than half an hour! I felt absolutely no discomfort during the entire procedure - right from topical all the way through final polishing. The best part was not having to learn to get used to my newly restored tooth. It's as if nothing ever happened. Talk about skill and confidence, Dr. Lien did it in one pass! He also checked in with me here and there to make sure nothing's bothering me. I would give it 0 stars if I can. This dental group is more like a scam. Let me walk you through my dental nightmare: First, they make you wait.....a long time. You make an appointment at 10, and they don't call you into the chair until almost 11. What's the point of making appointments if they can't honor it? As the dentist is going through my teeth, she started listing cavities. She listed a total of 15 cavities. FIFTEEN! I was like, omgwtf? but wait, I'm not finished, she said I needed 4, count it, FOUR root canals. I was absolutely stunned, but wait, that's not even half of it. I came home and examined my teeth, and couldn't spot any of the cavities, but what I did notice is that my teeth still had plague around the gum. WTF? Was she so preoccupied with making up cavities that she forgot to actually clean them? They were also very pushy about getting the cavities filled and root canal done. So I had to make an appointment on the spot. After I had my root canal done with them and "4" cavities filled, I just didn't trust them anymore, so I went and got a 2nd opinion with a new dentist. The new dentist examined my teeth and told me I didn't need ANY root canals. Also, the "4" cavities the dentist had filled were hardly visible, while the major ones went unfilled. I guess Stanley Dental Group was spacing out their work and leave the big ones undone so I would have to go back to get them done. First thing first, if you are on the sensitive side, this isn't your dental office; but if you are like me, whose schedule is utterly predictable beyond a 2-day horizon and who has a generally cavalier way of looking at life, you may do pretty well here. A phone call typically results in an appointment in less than 2 days (including weekends!) And alas, I pulled all my remaining widsom teeth (3 of them), received 3 crowns and a full dental cleaning in just 2 weeks. The dentists here are indeed a bit cowboyish. They won't bother to tell you how long your anesthesia will kick in unless you muster the courage to ask with a syringe 3 inches from your face. Neither was the dentist too concerned of you puking on your shirt when she jams the plastic apparatus into your mouth for a dental X-ray. Like the way most Chinese people see it, your absolute comfort is secondary to their efficiency. I love efficiency, in time and money. Their charge seems to be very reasonable, and if you are OK with massively swollen face for a week, they are OK with pulling as many teeth in one shot as you wish - even if it involves cutting open your gum, breaking a tooth into 3 pieces before prying them out. My negative vacation day balance didn't go further negative, and I lost all wisdom with minimum monetary outlay. I'm a fan. read more

Came in here off a recommendation from my sister. Our old dentist is always taking vacations and never really cleans our teeth well, so we decided to switch. This place is not too hard to find, it's in the Asian plaza on Lundy and Hostetter and right next to Pho Tau Bay. Front desk has two workers, both of who are very nice and friendly. I called in to schedule my appointment, and the soonest opening they had was in a week. However, when I told her I wanted to get the appointment over with ASAP, she offered to call me back if anyone canceled- and she actually did!!! Great customer service :) I ended up getting an appointment 3 days after I first called the office. If its your first time, plan to get there a little early to fill out some paperwork, and of course bring your insurance information! That said, the dental cleaning went as smoothly as they go. After I was called in, they took some routine X-rays of my teeth before Dr. Lee came in to do the teeth cleaning. Most of the staff speak Cantonese and maybe some Mandarin, so it may be harder to understand their English. I feel like he did a much more thorough job than my previous dentist, and also took the time to show me how to floss right, as well as answering any questions I had. Not bad for me; I usually dread those 6 month checkups! However, I did try to use a Yelp offer at this place, which specified 50% off for first-timers. It was my first time, and it did not mention anything about leaving a review first (you can't even post reviews on your mobile), but they didn't give it to me and said only when you leave a review and come back again. Wow, I'm so sorry that everyone else had such a bad experience here. I actually really love this office. It's true that I usually end up getting different dentists when I go there, but I think if you like a particular dentist, you probably could just ask for an appointment with the same one over again. I have never been to the other branches of Lee Dental group, but so far, I thought they were so kind here. They never made me wait outside that long. Dr. Jeannie Lee was the one worked on my cavities the first time, and she was very gentle. She was also very informative. Last time, I saw Dr. Winnie for Teeth cleaning, and she was so friendly. (I'm not sure if I got the two doctors mixed up, but one did my teeth cleaning and the other fixed my cavities.) I was so sad that I was moving to LA, so I told her that I will really miss this dental place. It's hard to find a good dental place, and I actually really liked this place. I have had horrible dentists in LA. I've also had my teeth cleaned by 2 other doctors there, and they were also nice. I forgot their names though. A guy doctor who didn't talk much, but he did his job well. Another girl doctor that had a very soft voice. She was quite young. I think her name was Dr. Tong or something like that. I go every 6 months for check ups. They didn't really pressure me. I only had my cavities worked on the first time I went there. After that I have visited them 5 times and they said I only needed teeth cleaning since there were no cavities. The only time that they were a bit concerned was when I told them that I wanted white fillings instead of silvers in the back of my teeth. They were against it saying that silver is stronger and will last longer. They asked me many times if I was sure about the white fillings. They explained to me why they recommend the silver fillings, but they did honor my choice and gave me my white fillings anyways. I appreciated that they didn't force their view on me since it is my choice as long as I'm aware that white fillings are more fragile. (I was actually concern about the mercury in silver fillings.) The thing that touched me the most is that... one time, my cap fell out cuz I was chewing caramel (stupid me), and Dr. Stanley glued it back for me for free. He took me in rightaway and said that I will probably need a new cap eventually, but it will cost a lot. Meanwhile, he glued it back for me. I thought that was so kind. When I had no insurance, they also said it's okay because they give dental discounts to those without insurance as well. Again, sorry for the people who had such bad experience, but I actually liked this place so much that I was trying to persuade my mom to fly to San jose just to go get her teeth done by them lol. I have been going to Lee Dental in San Jose for over 15 years. I have had x-rays, cavity fillings, braces, wisdom teeth removal, and crowns done by the dentists there. Most of the time, my appointments are scheduled with Dr. Stanley Lee and Dr. Ree. My appointments are always confirmed with a reminder phone call the day before and I have always been treated on time without long waits. The front desk, assistants, and doctors that I have interacted with are patient and take the time to answer my questions, whether regarding treatments, procedures, costs, insurance, or appointments, etc. I really like that the office is open til 6:30pm (later than most offices) and on weekends. This is convenient and allows for more flexibility in scheduling appointments. In addition, the staff at the dental clinic are all bilingual (English, Chinese, Cantonese) and this is especially helpful for those who may not speak English very well and would prefer communicating in Chinese. I have been a patient of Lee Dental Group for about 20 years now and their service has always been top notch. During that time, I have been under the care of Dr. Lee and now more recently, Dr. Ree. Both are masters at their craft and I have never had any complications or excessive pain from teeth cleaning, fillings or extractions. At the front of the office, the manager and staff do a great job of accommodating the patients and informing them of rates, treatment plans, and scheduling for future visits. The magazines in the waiting area are current and will keep most people occupied while they wait for their appointment. I was a bit shocked by some of the negative reviews on here. I think some can be attributed to the fact that people generally dislike going to the dentist, and regardless of whether they were treated at Lee Dental or another place, they would still hold that negative bias. Overall, I have nothing but praise for the care and service Lee Dental Group has provided me over the years. I would happily recommend them to anyone looking for a dentist in the south bay. It's easy to book an appointment and they try to get you an appointment at the best time possible. The environment there is very nice and clean. It is located in an Asian plaza, easy to find! I had been going here for years and years, ever since I was in elementary school. Key word: HAD. Don't get me wrong--Dr. Stanley Lee is crazy efficient and he knows what he's doing. Dr. Jennie Lee is so nice and sweet, and is a lot more gentle on teeth than her father is. HOWEVER. Dr. Stanley does not seem to care one iota for his patients' comfort. I used to dread having him clean my teeth because he would go wild picking away at my teeth, such that he'd stab at my gums as well. Ouch! Then he'd be all done in about a minute and have one of his assistants polish my teeth back up (and wipe the blood away). Dr. Jennie Lee is so friendly and personable, but the last time I was in her office, she marked up my dental x-rays stating that I had 4-5 cavities. I was dismayed, of course, because I had never had cavities before. She pushed me to get them done quickly. Looking up reviews on yelp, I discovered that people have had issues with Lee Dental Group about cavity issues--or rather, lack of cavity issues. I took myself over to another dental office and found out that I actually didn't have any cavities at all--and the dentist over there double-checked thoroughly too. Today, i had an appointment for my wise tooth extraction. Right before the appointment, they wanted me to sign a consent form. I read it through and have question about neighboring tooth. So I asked the assistant, she didn't explain anything to me but took the form back and said " If you don't sign the form, we won't do the extraction for you." BELIEVE THE TERRIBLE REVIEWS! This place is the worst. It left such a terrible impression on me 7 years ago I had to comment on yelp. Back then online reviews were not readily available, so with the advent of Yelp I can finally tell my story. I knew this place was shady but the number of negative reviews confirm my feelings. Got a routine cleaning. Everything seemed fine until I decided to check out at the front desk. The receptionist then proceeded to tell me that I had a cavity and needed a root canal!!! She then proceeded to pull out my xrays and then show the spot to me. I then told her that I could not see anything on the xray. She then told me "You are not qualified to look and understand xrays". I then told her "NEITHER are YOU!" Why did the dentist not say anything? Why is the receptionist telling me this? She wasn't even a hygeinist. She is the one who picks up the phone and schedules appointments for crying out loud. Needless to say I walked out and switched dentists. On my next cleaning appointment 6 months later I asked about the alleged tooth that needed a root canal. My new dentist said, it was fine. And IT IS STILL FINE 7 YEARS LATER. This place is the WORST. I called in to make an appointment, the front desk was very nice and patient, she answered every of my concerned questions. This place does not deserve even one star! This is the worst dental office I've ever been into. The staff is okay but the dentist, Jennie Lee, that my daughter encountered was horrendous! She had no patience for my 8 year old daughter. My daughter expressed that it was very uncomfortable the way she was sticking the x-ray tab in her both and she used even more force. That made my daughter ask to talk to me. Winnie then stormed off without a word. The office manager then asked me to wait outside of the area. I refused. I am here for my daughter and will be by her side no matter what. She then said we need to go some place else. We'll gladly go someplace else. I gave DENTAL LEE services a "lone star" due to bad experience, for which, I wish there to be a sub-zero rating I can pick. I have been DENTAL LEE patient in the Hostteter Rd San Jose clinic for a year when first moved to the Bay Area. I chose Dental Lee at the time, after seeing a nice paid TV advertisement about Lee Dental in the bayarea Chinese TV Channel. However after a year being a patient at Dental Lee , my overall feeling was that the dentistry had offered excessive services that might not be required and some of the services were performed poorly. at my first day of visit, I was in need of a rountine teeth cleaning, Dental Lee, however instructed a very expensive gum sanitizing treatment to my teeth and gum (in the thousand dollars range, when all my teeth really needed was a regular routine cleaning). Prior to the procedures, I was told by the staffs that I don't need to worry about pay much out of pocket since I was working for major tech company with excellent dental coverage. Please also note, none of my prior dentists or later dentists have ever recommended any gum cleaning treatments like such that would cost in thousands. In a different visit, Dental Lee had pointed out a "damaged tooth" and persuaded me to set on a crown to it, later the crown set by Lee was cracked within a year, comparing to a different crown I had from a different dentist 15 years ago that is still in ok condition. Overall, I am unhappy about my visits.. In addition, I also noticed that the equipment in facility did Not look recent. I am not a field expert to judge the equipment maintenance, but just from the looks, comparing to other dentists facilities I had been to before or later, the equipments seem old. To say that I am amused at the negative reviews, would be an understatement. We live in a society where people do not accept responsibility for their own actions. To blame dental professionals for finding cavities that cannot be seen by the naked eye is laughable; unless you happen to be gifted with x-ray vision you will not see cavities that are starting inter-dentally (between teeth for the uninformed). I am a former Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) with over 11 year's experience. I have heard it all. Most people do not understand what the dentist tries in earnest to explain; if you do not understand say so, do not just walk away confused. Take responsibility for your mistakes, quit blaming others, it is time to look in the mirror and really see who is responsible. As far as taking multiple x-rays while doing a root canal, it is imperative that they do that so the dentist can confirm if they have removed enough of the infected pulp and have reached the apex of the root of the tooth. The reason they are so cautious is they do not want to perforate the root into the bone of your skull. For the person who felt they had plaque forming on their teeth, this is a continuous process and becomes more pronounced following ingestion of food. Dr. Lee is a skilled clinician and I am very impressed with his caring manner. He explained everything to my husband and me. I did not let him know that I was a former dental professional because I wanted to see how he related to patients. I later informed him I was an RDA. He passed the test with flying colors. I will continue to go to Dr. Lee even though he does not belong to the two dental plans I am covered with Medicare and California Dental Service. Even if I have a portion to pay on my dental bill, I will do so willingly and happily. As far as the office personnel who support Dr. Lee, they are very knowledgeable, cordial, and helpful. If you found that you had a long wait before you were called in, perhaps Dr. Lee had emergency patients that needed immediate assistance in taking care of an abscess or fractured tooth other times a procedure may require more time than was scheduled. Would you not want to be worked into his schedule, if you were in a similar situation? Would you want the doctor to race through a procedure if not enough time was booked? People today are so self-absorbed; remember the world does not revolve around you and your schedule. In closing, I highly recommend this office. Dr. Lee is an amazing professional dentist. If it matters, I am not Asian and I feel extremely comfortable in this office. I am Mexican and my husband is Greek.
