Terrible, food was overdone and dried out. Looked to have been out all afternoon. When I tried to get a refund the manager refused.

It was a decent meal for a decent price. Only thing was cream cheese wontons lacked any substantial cream cheese!

We tried the Szechuan dumplings in chili oil, cream cheese wontons, and the kung pao chicken. There was a lot on the menu that caught my eye, especially the orange beef - but unfortunately, they do not sell that dish anymore. The dumplings were mostly warm, but some were cold. The flavor was impeccable, so I didn't mind the mixed temperature. That's something that could be improved. I haven't ever ordered kung pao chicken, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but it was amazing. Seasoned well and served with a little heat. The amount of chicken you get is impressive. It is served with a side of rice. The wontons were some of the hottest/freshest wontons I've ever eaten. Steam was coming out of my mouth! It definitely was a fresh order due to them originally forgetting that part of our order. I was pleasantly surprised by this experience, although the dumplings were cold, and an order of wontons was served late, everything was unique and cooked well. The flavors are amazing. Will definitely be back.

We got the spicy dumplings, sesame chicken, garlic green beans, and pork egg rolls. Dumplings had zero spice flavor from the sauce - it was alarms or as if they were sitting in soy sauce and a bit of colored oil. The skin was a little thick and partially dried out for our liking, wouldn't get again. Sesame chicken was fine - not remarkable, not bad. Egg rolls similarly were lacking flavor and were so small compared to other locations - would skip next time. Green beans were our favorite part but felt a bit overpriced. This is the kind of place we'd go back to for takeout in a pinch but not something we'd seek out again.

We had a later lunch and by the time we left, there was still a long line to get in. It has a nice variety of dishes to select from. One of our favorite parts of the buffet is the hibachi area - my husband, our older son and I all had our own selection of ingredients stir fried for noodle dishes. There are many tables available for seating and the servers are nice but super busy.

Trash!!! FIRST AND LAST TIME!!!…read more Never been here, always drove by it for years and it looked crappy but my niece wanted to go here for her bday dinner- Was supposed to be beautiful evening, i didnt eat because i ate beforehand but my daughter wanted to go and it was my nieces bday! Upon entering it reeks of raw, spoiled meat i had to cover my nose to stop from gagging. My daughter didnt want to walk around and find food, she shy (pretty common for children) so i went up and made her a plate, she said the beef was dry i got her, so i asked our waiter for steak sauce and took a bite and told her to try it and it was better. The little boy at front door the little hostess guy, who claimed to be the ' manager ' said it cost $25 if i want to make her plate for her!! And that I wasnt allowed to get up, or try her beef and season it for her- unless i paid 25 dollars.. i told him thats outrageous and i wont help her anymore and he said doesnt matter and demanded 25 dollars!! He called me a liar and proceeded to argue with me in front of the kids! He lied and said i asked the waiter for silverware - never happened!!! So i left, who pays 25 dollars for one bite of dry beef?!!! This place is horrible, horrible food, horrible prices, horrible service, horrible customer service and location etc. literally the worst "restaurant " i been to in years!!! As a daughter of a very prominent, local attorney and someone who has been in hospitality for over 20 years - not how this should ever be handled! I told him, he didn't tell me that I was not allowed to leave the seat and get my daughter her plate for her if she didn't want to go up and get her plate and then I told him that he didn't tell me that and he told me I had to ask him for him to tell me.... Insanity! I don't work there I'm not the "manager" you don't ever tell a customer that it's their job to do his job... Its clearly his first job and he sucks at it. Also, BBB will be notified. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Save your money, this is bottom of the barrel. I told the man that kicked me out for taking a bite of my daughters dry, unseasoned beef and me helping her season it. He ruined my nieces birthday and he didnt care at all. Heavy serial killer vibes!! Zero empathy!! Or common sense etc. Yuck, yuck, yuck!! Do not waste your time, take your hard earned money to a place with quality food and service instead!

This is our go to for great Chinese food (we had it delivered via Grubhub this time, free delivery, thanks to Amazon Prime). The food came piping hot and consisted of Cream Cheese Wontons done right. Crispy, not soggy, and actually had real prepared hot mustard, not the stuff in a packet. Not greasy at all. The wife got the garlic chicken, extra spicy. The chicken was spicy hot, and the veggies crisp. Just be aware that there are thinly sliced wood ear mushrooms (for those that don't like fungus). Tasty! I got the Prawns in Garlic Sauce, extra extra spicy. It was a mirror of the chicken dish, but came with a lot of perfectly cooked plump shrimp. Like I mentioned earlier it was very hot temperature wise, and the burn to my upper palate was worth it when I dipped into it. The portion size is excellent, with enough food per container for at least two meals per entree. The prepared mustard was excellent as well, and cleaned out the sinuses. For those of you that don't like the sinus clearing mustard, mix a little with the sweet and sour sauce. It adds a nice tang when dipping. This was a great meal to celebrate the beginning of spring break! My wife was happy as well (she's a 2nd grade teacher) and was a bit hangry when she came home. As for me? I'm retired. Everyday is Friday!!!

A Trip Down Memory Lane at 50th & France: Supporting a Neighborhood Icon…read moreThere are some places that don't just serve food; they serve memories. For me, Great Wall Chinese Restaurant at 4515 France Ave S is exactly that. I've been coming here since the 1980s, back when I was just a small child peering over the tables. Walking in today, I was struck by how the place is still absolutely filled with wonderment. Even though it's now under its second owners, that soul of the neighborhood remains perfectly intact. The Classics Never Fade This visit, we leaned into the staples that have kept this place a local favorite for over 40 years: Kung Pao Chicken: Perfectly balanced heat and crunch. Chicken White Rice: Simple, clean, and the perfect canvas for their sauces. The "Legit" Sauces: You know a place is the real deal when the spicy mustard has that proper kick, the chili paste is rich, and the sweet-and-sour for the veggie spring rolls is exactly how you remember it. As I sat there, I couldn't help but reminisce about my "all-time" favorites from years ago--the Mushu Chicken, the Mushu Pork, and of course, the legendary Flaming Duck. Passing the Torch It's heartening to see that while the ownership has transitioned, the business is as solid as ever. Throughout our meal, there was a steady stream of takeout orders heading out the door--a true sign of a small business that the community continues to wrap its arms around. The best part? Getting to share it with the next generation. My seven-year-old gave it a definitive two thumbs up. Why We Support Local Great Wall has been a fixture of the Minneapolis/Edina border since 1981. In an era of ever-changing food trends, there is something deeply special about a spot that maintains its consistency and "old-school" charm. It's a reminder that supporting our local small businesses isn't just about the meal; it's about keeping the history of our community alive. Even though I've traded the Twin Cities for California, Great Wall remains a non-negotiable landmark on my itinerary every time I return. It's more than just a meal; it's a connection to my roots. Distance might change where I live, but it hasn't changed the fact that this is a must-stop whenever I'm back in Minneapolis. If you're lucky enough to live just around the corner, don't take this gem for granted! If you haven't been back in a while, or if you're looking for a reliable spot for your next family dinner, give Great Wall some love. Let's keep this local gem going for another 40 years! #GreatWallMinneapolis #50thAndFrance #SupportLocal #MinneapolisEats #RetroMinneapolis #CommunitySmallBusiness #ChineseFoodNostalgia
