My first time ordering from Star wok because it is near home, but my family was so disappointed and dissatisfied with the quality of the shrimp fried rice I mean this rice was literally made like mashed potatoes and no veggies and not even really shrimp in it! The food quality and the service have gone down considerably, and there's a woman there (I believe one of the owners) who is always yelling, dour and mean. Hole in the wall is what I'd call this place. It's easy to miss, but I would not let that deter you!! It's honestly some of the better Chinese I have had in a while. When I went they were the only place open late enough . Grateful they serve a late crowd. The follow all covid guidelines. There were two staff members working. Might be the best place in Hopkins for Chinese take out. If you want fresh vegetables and proteins with some flavor in it, here it is! It has more flavor than Eddie Chang's-if you're familiar. Don't expect a gentle greeting or a gentle goodbye. However, this is a family run business and they do what they are able-cook delicious food! They're not rude by any means, but think being this place has maybe 3-4 tables to sit and 3/4 of the space is the kitchen, they focus more on the food they serve than anything else. I ordered takeout, bean curd homestyle vegetables. This tastes almost as flavorful as my dad's. (Sorry, no one beats my dad's cooking.) this isn't why I gave them 4 stars. I think their public restroom could use some deep cleaning as well the as the front of the restaurant. This won't prevent me from coming back however. Amongst the many small Chinese shops I've been to, this is the most flavorful. I have been here a few times...but unfortunately I think I will not be returning. While they are able to get your food done fast, the quality has been massively decreasing! This past time I walked in and ordered 2 egg rolls, large sweet and sour pork, large beef and broccoli. When I got home, I discovered, no egg rolls were in the bag, no sweet and sour sauce (so I basically got just fried pork nuggets) and only 1 container of rice (it should be 1 per entree). The beef and broccoli tasted like it was a combo of leftover sauces and just not right. While I was standing there waiting, I watched as the 2 children pulled out a box of snap peas from the back, poured them onto the table in the dining room and ate some before bringing them to the back to cook with...did not see any gloves or washing happening. so...yeah i think i will be looking for a different place that can get your order right and the flavor actually tasty... read more

Okay, I have only eat one dish here, but I really like them. The dish that I get every time is the Kung Pao Chicken. I find the way they prepare the Kung Pao Chicken is perfect. There is plenty of chicken, carrots, celery, peanuts, and onions. They cook it to order right in front of you and the celery ends up still being somewhat crunchy which contrasts well with the chicken. I also enjoy the fried rice and the choice of soup that comes with the lunch special. The egg drop soup and hot and sour soup are a very good choice. The lady that takes the orders is very nice and makes sure you get what you ordered. I will be a repeat customer as long as they keep making the Kung Pao Chicken they way they do. read more

Vegetarians and Vegans, please note that you should NOT try to eat here. I'm a vegan and tried eating at Star Wok on Saturday night with my family. It was the most trying experience I've ever had in any Chinese restaurant anywhere in the world. What I discovered is that all of their sauces are pre-made and they ALL have a mixture of various animal and/or fish products. Consequently, their sauces are neither Vegan or even Vegetarian and if you care at all about knowing what ingredients are really in your food you shouldn't eat here. Even foods that one would assume could be vegan (such as their tofu dishes, eggplant, etc.) are NOT. Their vegetable and tofu soup has a chicken base. The only things we ultimately could eat were green beans (simply sauteed without the sauce), mock duck with vegetables and mei fun, all of which were incredibly salty. In addition, since we were going to the movie theater down the street we thought we would eat in. There is essentially NO service. You battle to just get luke warm water served in styrofoam cups. The owner is constantly on the phone yelling to whoever she is speaking to. It's a horrible dining experience. read more

In a very dumpy part of lovely small town hopkins. I survived. The food was solid for takeout. I can't speak for the soup, but the sesame chicken was all white meat and quite flavorful. Large chunks. As for the customer service, it was fine. The lady up front was very busy and I didn't expect her to be all smiles and candy. I see a lot of reviews bashing this aspect of the business and I think we could all be less harsh critics of customer service, especially when the establishment is very busy and folks are working hard. I've been going to star wok for a few years now. Pretty much your standard American-Chinese take out place. The sesame and general tso's chicken is always crispy unlike a lot of other places and most buffets. The sauce is your normal corn starch based sauce. It's never spicy even if you ask for it that way. And always too damn sweet. The fried rice here is just meh... More of a take out place than a sit down, they do have a few tables but I've never seen anyone eating there except for the owners kids. We order from here about once a week. It is the only Chinese food we can agree on. We pretty much get the same thing every time for the four of us, with plenty of leftovers: Szechuan Beef (my favorite with a perfect amount of spicy burn and ample vegetables, this one has caused some major shouting on my part when my youngest and her friends will eat the entire thing without waiting for me to get any), Moo Shu Chicken (my second favorite, but no sauce or tortilla - awesome as-is, but my wife eats it as intended; daughters won't touch it), Cashew Chicken (Tastes too Chinese IMO, so I avoid, but my daughters and wife love it), Sweet and Sour Chicken in Orange sauce (I love these as-is, no sauce - really good lightly battered white chicken; the rest of the fam smother in sauce), and finally, what causes a lot of angst and accusations of eating someone's share because we all love them, the cream cheese wantons (not overly sized or fried). When I review Chinese food, I give the caveat that I do not like it in general because of the tendency to use too much sauce and salt. That is not the case here, which is why I am willing to go along and order. They also deliver, which is another bonus. Their menu is gigantic. I really need to branch out. 5 stars. read more
