We had plans to ski nearby Gore Mountain but the wind and a -40 degree windchill kept us from the slopes. This turn of events left us with more time than we expected at the lodge. Lucky for us, there were plenty of available on-site activities to keep us cozy and entertained. Highlights included: - Indoor heated pool & jacuzzi: What a luxury in the dead of winter! Spacious indoor area with large windows to house their pool, kiddie pool, and jacuzzi. Lounge chairs, tables, etc. Ample supply of pool towels, easy access to bathrooms, and separate changing areas so you don't have to walk through the lodge in your suit. - On-site activities: Board games available with ample seating near a fireplace. Large bar area. Group activities like bingo. The list goes on. - Comfortable rooms with useful amenities: Large televisions (great as the Olympics were on!), soft beds, mini fridge, Keurig, and the like. - Proximity to Downtown Schroon Lake: Although there was dining available on-site, it was nice to have a number of restaurants to select from 5 minutes down the road (and a stellar view of the frozen lake anytime you're pulling out of their property). - Hot drinks & snacks: I enjoyed some free cookies and hot beverages available in their lobby and main bar area on several occasions. Speaking of their property, the drive in among their towering trees is impressive. Lots of variety in the type of accommodation you can book. Ample parking. Great with snow removal and ensuring guests can get in and out. Staff were very helpful. Only snafu we encountered was right at check in. The heater in our first room sounded like a jet engine taking off with an incurable rattle. It was late but the front desk was very responsive and moved us to another room. Unfortunately, the room was quite a trek and was only accessible via stairs (which was a bummer as we had quite a few things we needed to drag in). To our delight, on trip 2 to our vehicle, the front desk stopped us and offered a 3rd but much closer room that became available after a last minute cancellation (which we gladly accepted). They didn't have to do that but we really appreciated them keeping us in mind. We were also granted a slight extension on checkout given our change in plans. Would definitely stay here again!

We had the pleasure of staying here the past two summers for a long weekend, both within the…read moretownhouses. They are not in the main hotel building but a short walk from it (and short walk to the pool). Sometimes feels like a trek going back and forth since it's a bit uphill one direction but it's ok. We LOVE their outdoor pool with a beautiful lake view behind it. We've also been in the indoor pool; nice option if it's raining or a cooler day. At times the pool can be relaxing if you find a good spot but other times a lot of kids. Our fave part of the hotel is the ice cream at 3:30 out on the lawn- we don't miss it! Their rec center is INSANE- a kids dream! Mini golf, baseball, video games, ping pong, rock climbing etc along with their outdoor facilities like pickleball and tennis. Never tried out the little movie theater or their art workshop (the stuffing animals one ahh!!) but such a cute idea. Everything in our townhouse was nice and spacious- loved the balcony especially facing the lake and hearing/watching the boaters (or deer!) go by. Oh also love the standard boat ride included that gives a tour of the lake and my daughter got to have her first time on a boat experience so she was pumped- just a nice change of viewpoint since we stayed at resort most of the time. I wish the restaurants were more family friendly at least with pricing.. or casual eateries..but we love a few of the places in Bolton landing just a short drive away so that's fine too (BEAR's CUP for a bear claw anyone?? I had to!). Just nice to walk somewhere if possible. Also was disappointed with their customer service two summers ago when my FIL needed to cancel the fine print was a little wacky- but we were able to move the date to reschedule without losing $ at least. Hopefully this will be a fam fave for years to come!

I've heard about The Sagamore Resort for years and was excited to finally experience it this past…read moreweekend. Everyone I mentioned it to raved about how wonderful it is, so we arrived with high expectations and lots of anticipation. At check-in we were given a list of activities, which all looked fun -- though we later learned most didn't begin until the following day. Not a big issue, just something to be aware of if you're arriving for a short stay. We stayed in the Hermitage Lodge, and the layout of the room was actually very nice -- a downstairs kitchenette and small living area, with a beautiful loft upstairs featuring a king bed. The only drawback was having just one bathroom. Unfortunately, shortly after arriving, we noticed several ants -- first on the bed in the loft, then in the bathroom, and later in other areas of the room. Given the cold winter weather, it was surprising. We chose to mention it to the front desk the next day. They kindly offered to move us and provided a $70 credit, which we appreciated. Since we only had one night left, we decided not to relocate. At the room rate, we had hoped for a bit more in terms of condition upon arrival. We enjoyed lunch at Caldwell's and dinner at Mr. Brown's Pub, and later at La Bella Vita -- all pleasant experiences (I've reviewed those separately). The property itself is truly beautiful. In the winter, however, many of the scheduled activities and amenities seemed primarily geared toward families with young children. That's perfectly fine -- I've raised two boys, I get it -- but it wasn't quite the "grand" weekend experience we had envisioned. I can absolutely imagine that in the summer, with the stunning views of Lake George and the full range of offerings, this resort feels magical. In the winter, while still lovely, it didn't fully match our expectations for the price point. Overall, it's a beautiful property with kind staff and great dining -- just perhaps better suited to families or a summertime stay.

The Inn is run by a lovely couple Cheryl and John who couldn't have been more helpful. We originally reached out by email, which was respond to quickly. Then the email was followed up with phones for payment, which was extremely reasonable for this over the 4th. After speaking with them it felt like we had known them for years. Very down to earth people. Now we're looking forward to our actual stay in July so stay tuned for our next review of that experience here went. Until next time, later!

We were pretty disappointed in our first stay at Shaheen's. Upon arrival, the sign on the office…read moredoor said contactless checkin, and every guest was emailed the info. So I checked my email and had nothing from them. Thankfully someone walked in the office and asked if I needed help. They said it was a text, not an email. I didn't receive a text either. He looked up my info and the text was sent to my home phone number. So he told me my door code. I couldn't remember that code all weekend, so I had to look it up on my phone every time, I'd rather have a key. Also, he didn't tell me how to enter it, but I figured it out. My husband had more trouble when he tried lol. Every time. That keypad is very very touchy. And the kids next door, fighting over who gets to enter the code, yelled it several times. So now the whole parking lot knows their code. I guess Shaheen's is doing a lot of remodeling. I think we had a new room? But I'm not sure if it's finished. The ceilings are painted black, trying to look elegant I suppose, but looks kinda creepy. Many white paint drips / smears everywhere, unfinished carpentry, chips on the freshly painted door. New beautiful bathroom has a large sink but it's completely flat and stuff doesn't rinse down without a ton of effort. Toilet roll is a far stretch to reach. Toilet seat is sharp, really high, and uncomfortable. I know I'm sounding picky here but it was a lot. There is zero soundproofing. Thank goodness we needed the air conditioner, it helped drown out noises from neighbors and construction. For some reason, there was a man sitting in a truck, right below our back window, smoking and playing music loudly. Two nights in a row. Not sure if he was a guest or a worker or what. Public water in the area must be brownish yellow because the new toilet always looked dirty. I noticed the same water in the lobby Keurig machine. I believe the ice machine has a filter because the ice looked clear. As we were leaving, we noticed a little old lady with oxygen was having trouble getting in her door. We watched for a few minutes then asked if she needed help. She told us her door code and we showed her how to do it, but now we have her code. So dangerous if we were the type to take advantage, thankfully we're not. The only plus - my motherinlaw called the hotel to ask if they had any amenities she could purchase for our wedding anniversary. The man said no, but he'd be happy to go get whatever she wanted. She suggested champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. He said he had to go to the store anyways, and he'd make it happen. She called the night before to make sure everything worked out, and he said he forgot! Jeez! He ended up getting a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates from Adirondack Chocolates, and even a card. A very nice touch! But we definitely won't be back.

Glad I chose these quarters. I attended a four-day astrophotography conference in mid-September…read more Cost was fair and room was clean and well equipped. Glad there was Wi-Fi, microwave, and fridge with freezer. Having recently come off surgery, I had requested a ground floor which was granted with ease. My stay was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was available at 8:00 am--simple but appetizing foods, drinks, buns, wrapped energy bars, coffee, etc. All good. A few days after I departed, I realized I left two chargers in the room. I got in touch with Jesse at the desk. He volunteered to pack and ship them using my on-file credit card for postage. Within a week or so, my chargers arrived. Needless to say, excellent customer service! If I return to the conference next year, I will likely book my stay at Shaheen's.

Just returned from a wonderful getaway and stayed here with my wife. This is a very nice B&B…read more Nancy and Larry were at all times very hospitable. We were greeted on arrival by two super friendly but well behaved dogs, Buddy and Bella. Our room was very clean and serenely decorated with it's own bathroom (nice claw foot tub). The sheets felt like a thousand thread count sheets if there is such a thing. No in room TV, but Linksys WiFi was there so I watched Netflix with earphones. Nice in room fireplace for ambiance. The breakfast was amazing beyond words. Everything was expertly homemade and served on a well set dining room table that sat 6. First, fresh fruit cocktail with raspberries, nuts, melon, grapes and pineapple. Second, sticky buns the likes of which I've never had. Third, croissant made with egg, potatoes and Canadian bacon. Fourth, challah French toast with local syrup. It was Mother's Day and all the ladies received a rose. Very nice hiking to the top of Mt Severance nearby. You'll love the view. Recommended if you are looking for a relaxing place with well thought, homelike touches.

Very cute cottages, I hear its great for cross country skiing, ice skating, real reindeer's!, and…read morenordic bowling. I went here on my one year anniversary for one night and it was very cute. The owners greeted us warmly and warmed up our cottage before we got there. The cottage is a very simple layout, full kitchen and ours was the Ruska which has 3 bedrooms. Even though we were there in December they did not have enough snow for cross country skiing or snow shoeing. It was a bummer but the owners let us rent our sleds and ice skates at no charge because of mother natures inability to cooperate during the holiday week. They also set up a nordic bowling game on the frozen lake which was fun. We were also able to take a hike on the snowshoe trail which also appealed to us. The negatives were that their food if you chose to eat at their little restaurant was terrible (bring your own food!) and that when you do cook you have to make sure to clean up after yourself (no house keeping) It was a nice get away with the hubby however I want our next winter escape to be a little more pampered.

Positives: Contactless check-in: I booked online and received an email with my room number and door code the day before. We were able to arrive at our convenience and got into the room without any issues. Ambiance: We stayed in a 2-queen room, which was clean and modern. There were thoughtful touches throughout that made us feel welcome, like decaf coffee pods for the Keurig, a mini fridge with a freezer, a microwave with cup o' noodles and oatmeal packets, and a small entryway table. Beds: Very comfortable with plenty of bedding--sheets, a fleece blanket, and a comforter, making for a cozy winter stay. Parking: The parking right outside our room was incredibly convenient, especially with all our luggage for our brief visit as part of a much longer itinerary. We also appreciated that the lot was kept clear and well-plowed despite the snowfall. Location: Just a short distance from downtown Schroon Lake, with nearby restaurants and Lake Placid within an hour's drive. Opportunities for Improvement: Odor: There was a faint smell in the room--nothing overpowering, but noticeable. After a while, I stopped noticing it, though every time I returned, it would remind me it was there. Inconsistent water temperature: After a cold day outside, I was hoping for a hot shower but could only get lukewarm water. Later, the water from the bathroom faucet was scalding, which was frustrating. Bathroom: The bathroom could use some updating to match the rest of the room. The walls and tub were a bit yellowed, there was some dirt and dust in the corners, and there wasn't any counter space for toiletries. Overall, this is a solid place to stay if you're looking for somewhere comfortable and affordable to rest during a weekend of adventures.
