I had a very disappointing experience here. I went in with a few simple questions about repairing my shoes, but the owner was rude, impatient, and clearly annoyed that I was asking. Instead of answering my questions, he eventually threw his hands up and told me, "Go somewhere else." I've never been treated so disrespectfully as a potential customer. I had just had a pair of platform gladiator sandals fixed by another local cobbler as the heel had separated from the shoe. I went to wear them for the first time after the repair and noticed the heel was already beginning to separate again which was disappointing. I decided to go see Lee and he said the only real way to fix was to sew the heel to the shoe. $20 and I was able to pick up within 24 hours so I could wear the shoes at the event I was attending. It's not often you find a true cobbler who knows what he is doing and does a wonderful job. Yes, the shop may look like a tornado blew through it but I have a strong feeling that Lee knows where everything is! I would highly recommend visiting him for any shoe, bag or repairs. Lee's Shoe Repair is reasonably priced and does excellent work. I brought in a pair of leather boots that I had accidentally left outside. They got wet, dried out, and warped so badly that I couldn't even wear the right one because the toe had completely caved in. Mr. Lee told me it would take a week. When I came back, the boots looked incredible. The toe was fully restored and looked almost no different than it had before the damage. In fact, this is the best these boots have looked in years. They are well loved and well worn. I use them for work, yard work, hiking, vacations, and everyday wear, so they have truly been lived in. Seeing them brought back to life like that was impressive. I even received compliments on them after getting them back. He did such a great job that I almost wish I had more shoes that needed repair. Mr. Lee is an institution in Ventura. He does not only shoe repair but alterations, some upholstery, suitcase and bag repair and even wetsuit repair. His shop may seem like a jumble, but he knows where everything is. He does a great job and takes pride in his work. He may not have everything ready at the date on the tag (no computers there) but he always gets it done and done well. He seems to be working there almost constantly. Pros: Lee does a pretty good job and his prices are reasonable. I've been going to Lees for a few years to have 1/2" lifts added to my right shoe. Cons: He wants you to pay in advance. Really? Does he pay the car mechanic BEFORE the car is repaired? His turn around time is about 10 days. Often the shoe is not ready when he says. He rarely answers his phone, though I did manage to catch him twice at 8 am. When I go in his shop, it's like walking on eggshells. If he doesn't like what you ask, he'll just make you leave. He has no interpersonal skills. Also, the last shoe that he applied a lift, wobbles. I won't be taking it back to him to fix because that would require another 10 days and every time you rip apart a shoe, it weakens its integrity. I will not be going back to Lees. Too stressful for me. I have found someone else, who actually even texts! Communication is important. read more

I took in a pair of Cole Haan boots that were stained two years ago (I know, I'm a negligent owner!), a Cactus Plant Flea Market hoodie that needed to be sewn up (the front pocket ripped while exiting a table after getting caught on the corner). I have gotten my heels done here in the past and have never had any issues. I came here again recently and Lee was very rude. First off, I had came in on a Friday and he told me my heels would be ready on that next Wednesday. Wednesday came and he had completely forgotten about my heels and he said he would have them ready the next day. I then came back the next day and once I saw my heels, I wanted to make sure they were cut to the inch I had requested so I asked him to measure them for me. He then responded with "you don't trust me??!" "I don't need to measure it, I told you!!" "get out of my store!! get OUT!", because as a paying customer, I asked him to measure them? Well... I just came back from my 5 trip to see this clown. I was looking for a new strap for my bag...he quoted me a price of $ 10.00. But that was 3 1/2 weeks ago... It is a10 minute job. I'll assume Mr. Lee is the cute old man who took my shoes last Wednesday and had them repaired by Friday. I popped in on my lunch hour (it's a tiny building with mint green trim; on a corner floating in its parking lot). As I rambled to him about how I'd walked so hard on the heels that the little end caps had popped off, he calmly wrote out a ticket ($6) and asked when I needed them by. I said 'No rush', and he said 'Friday'. I was in and out in less than a minute. The repair work is very good. The leather on the heels of my pumps had gotten scuffed, and the plastic end caps had disintegrated to leave bare nails on the tips. He smoothed out the scuffs and put new caps on both shoes. I'll be going to him for any other shoe needs, for sure. read more

I love Lee and I imagine you will too! He's such a character. I like repairing things and hate the disposable Amazon Prime/instant gratification/throw away culture we have. I get tremendous satisfaction from buying high quality things, using them hard, keeping them for many years, and repairing as needed. Lee has helped me repair broken surfboard bag zippers, cycling panniers, and all kinds of things related to outdoor activities. He always does it for a fair price. Most repairs are $10-$20 in my experience. One tip is Lee is not super organized, so I would call him before you come by to pick up your repair. Keep your ticket. He won't lose anything but sometimes he forgets dates and times (or pretends to ;)). A few of my repairs took a day longer than quoted and I had to follow up a few times. It's just one of the quirks of dealing with a 1-employee, grandpa-aged man business that does good work cheap! I'll be sad when Lee hangs it up for good. Another tip is be prepared to give into Lee's suggestions. He has done this for many years. He is not an aesthetic perfectionist but his repairs are solid and utilitarian. I wouldn't bring high fashion boots here that need to look just so, as another reviewer who gave 1-star did. read more

I've now taken two different leather items to Lee. The first one was my favorite, expensive, Michael Kors leather jacket. I ripped a huge section on the hook of a hanger, I was so upset I actually cried! I took it to a leather store on downtown Main Street and the guy there said it couldn't be fixed. I didn't want to give up so I did a little more hunting and found Lee's Shoe Repair. He was able to fix it and you can hardly even see where it was ripped! I can't remember what he charged but I don't think it was more than $20! Great deal and awesome work. Only complaint is it wasn't finished on the day he said it would. So, I recently bought a pair of leather boots. Unfortunately, the calves were about 2 inches too big for me. I again took them to Lee's and he did an amazing job! You honestly can't tell that they were ever altered! They fit perfect now! However, once again, he did say they'd be ready on a specific day and when I got there they weren't even started. I had to come back a couple days later to get them. I had also asked him to stretch them a little and he forgot to do that, I would've had to leave them again for a few more days. He charged $60 for the alteration which sounded a little high, but the amount of work he had to put into them to make them look as good as they do made it reasonable. So, the only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because both times he said they'd be done by a specific date, and both times they weren't ready. He may need to organize his time a bit better, but he definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to alterations! read more

Been going to Mr Lee and his wife for 10 years. Extremely well priced and fast sewing alterations and shoe repairs. I have had bra hooks inserted, jeans altered, shoe soles reattached, lots of shoe shining-all excellent. Red shoes do seemed to be cursed however! The three times I have brought in red shoes to be polished, they get misplaced or forgotten. I think maybe they need a special polish or are hard to match. Not sure really, but I like to tease Mr. lee whenever I bring my red shoes in. I would recommend if you are asking for a polishing on shoes that have different material types or leather colors, you ask how he is going to take care of them as I had one pair get polished all one color, when they should have been two. Also if you are having things added to your clothes or shoes (missing button, buckle) you check that in advance that the added item "matches" to your taste. I am pretty sure this a cash or check only place... I strongly recommend Lee's Shoe Repair. Honest, fair priced and good, quick work. read more
