My Aunty recommended we try to go in at opening for open bowl. They offer $3 games Monday, Tuesday, and Friday 8:30-10 am and they have better maintained lanes than Aiea Bowl. The only thing is they have a lot of leagues. We got there 8:45 am and their lanes were already full. We signed up on the wait list with only one party ahead of us. We ended up waiting an hour half before getting a lane. The lady working the desk was super nice and when asked how many games, suggested two. The kids only wanted to bowl one game so I paid for that plus $5 shoe rentals. They have a 3% convenience fee for using credit cards. Once we started the game, the kids were going through frames quick since they were guttering a bit. They decided they did want to play another game and the lady accommodated the last minute change and added the extra game. The cost did go up to the junior rate of $4.50. They announce that all games must be completed by 11:15 for the early bowl. I enjoyed the old school feel to the bowling alley and it seemed like everyone knew one another there. I ordered 3 bao buns with crispy pork for $15 and a spam and egg sandwich. They were both tasty and the kids loved it! PRO SHOP ONLY REVIEW! I wanted to have a ball drilled and but some other equipment. I called the front desk and they said the pro shop opens at 6pm. I showed up and waited until 7:15. No pro shop employee to be seen. I called the number on the window of the pro shop and left a message. They called me back an hour later and said they would be there around 8:30. I left. I called a few weeks and left a message for the pro shop person, then left another message the next day, and the next. Never a call back. I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND utilizing this pro shop. The staff member working the front desk, named Rollie, was the most rude and disrespectful person I have ever encountered in a customer service setting. His behavior was unprofessional and completely ruined my visit. I did receive a full refund, but the way I was treated has left me with no intention of ever returning to this establishment. Came in on Thursday 3/21 at 11am with my little brother and friend for a fun activity. Walked in and we were told that there would be no lanes until 2:30, even though the open play is claimed to be 9am-430pm Mon-Fri. There were also no signs showing that there would be League until 2pm. Left and spent some time around the shopping center and called to see if we could make a reservation but were told they "can't generate a reservation list until it gets busy". Interesting that having no available lanes isn't considered 'busy'. Came back at around 1:50 and there were plenty of lanes available. Stood at the front counter for a while before the guy, I think his name was Rollie, acknowledged us. Rollie was very unclear with his words, we were under the impression that we paid for 3 games but it ended after 1 game. He was also extremely rude to us, raising his voice and pointing around when asked simple questions, reluctant to give us our shoes as if we don't know our own shoe sizes, and ignored us multiple times when I just wanted to pay for another game. Went back to the counter after our first round because I forgot to set up bumpers for my nine year old brother, but was told that he was too old to use bumpers, since their policy is that bumpers are only for kids 8 and under. I understand that I didn't read the sign, but I think it's a bit of a ridiculous rule to not let anyone over the age of 8 have bumpers. If not for this one particular man, I would give Leeward bowl about 4 and a half stars - a very positive rating. Now back to the culprit. I have bowled in multiple leagues at Leeward Bowl since year 2000. I quit in March 2020 due to covid shutdowns. Just two weeks ago, I chose to came back and I joined a Tuesday 9:00 PM league. On the evening of January 25, 2025, I came to Leeward Bowl around 8:00 pm to work on my game and bowl a few games. Lanes 1-22 were taken by a 6:00 pm league making only lanes 25-28 available for open play (up untill shortly before the 9:00 league starts (lanes 23 & 24 were unused but not available to create a buffer between the 6:00 pm league and open play - totally understandable). My name was at the top of the wait list for open play when I approched the suspect man who told me there were no lanes available for open play. I said nothing, then a minute later I walked towards lanes 25-28 and discovered that the people on lanes 25 and 26 were packing up and leaving. When I returned to the front desk to inform the man that lanes 25 and 26 appeared to be available (about 8:15 thereabouts) and presumable open and available to me, the man broke out into a shouting tirade and in an extremely beligerent and threatening manner yelling: "THERE ARE NO FUCKING LANES AVAILABLE!!!!!! CAN'T YOU SEE?? I HAVE A LEAGUE COING IN AT 9:00 PM AND NEED EVERYBODY TO GET THE FUCK OFF OF THOSE" LANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' When I CALMLY and POLITELY told him that that was no way to treat customers and inferred that he has not had any training in customer service, his rage became even more strident and called me vulgar name. In fact had his beligerence and threating posture increased further, my next step would have been to call the police because I felt PHYSICALLY THREATEND by this person. There was another lady working the front desk attempting to be a 'peacemaker' but she appeared to be taken aghast by the scene and wanted the easiest way to calm the scene. I have seen and been to this bowling alley since 1983, when I first came to the United States on vacation. It looks much the same outside in 1983, as it is today, 2022. There's ample parking spots available, since there's a Don Quijote store, Long's Drugs and a host of food places in the area. Inside, the alleys are pretty packed most times. It might be advisable to do a reservation since the place looks pretty popular (hence full!) And everything else inside looks pretty much like a regular bowling alley. There's a pro shop inside, a food concession and lanes left and right as far as the eye can see! There was a couple of leagues running at the last time I visited. I don't usually leave reviews but after my experience felt that others needed to know before going to Leeward. I would give zero stars if I could. Went here to see if we could bowl on a Sunday. We understand it's a busy day for the alley and had been willing to wait. First of all customer service was pretty rude. The guy at the front desk was yelling at patrons and didn't really give clear instructions on availability besides you have to be out by 4pm. Later learned that lane pricing on weekends was $45 an hour....how crazy is that? Last time I've been to this alley was decades ago and it hasn't seemed like they've done any upgrades besides the rude workers. When we voiced our surprise and comparisons to other alleys on the island the workers told us to go take our money there instead. This was the first time we visited Leeward Bowl and may be the last. The process of reserving a lane is rather inconvenient. It's by appointment only and requires a "cash" deposit. You're required to sign a contract acknowledging you will not bring any outside food, other than a birthday cake into the alley. The open lane hours for the weekend are limited and strange, Saturdays:6pm-8pm & 1am-4am Sundays:9:30pm-4am and are limited to certain lanes since they have league bowling during those times as well. We ordered several fountain drinks and 2 order of French fries. Now prepare yourself to hear something pretty unbelievable and disgusting...we found a piece of a roach in one of our drinks! Yes, you read that correctly, a piece of a roach!!! I couldn't believe my eyes we were rushing to get to our next destination so I simply brought it to the concession and showed it to them. The guys looked horrified dumped it out and offered another drink to which of course I denied. He didn't even offer to refund me but I was in a rush and left. The 1 order of fries to almost 30mins to get but did come out straight from the frier blazing hot but I dont think and order of fries should take that long. The positives is that there is ample parking and a handicap ramp to get down into the bowling area which was great beacause we did have a wheelchair in our party. Showed up at 1930HRS on a Saturday. The lady/worker stated no lanes open, but we clearly there were a lot of open lanes. The lady/worker was very rude and very inconsiderate. I called the establishment and I was willing to drive there and show them how bad the quality of food was. For some odd reason, as compared to when we were in high school, it's so hard to find open lanes at local bowling alleys for spur of the moment bowling nights. Thankfully, Leeward Bowl is the easiest to make lane reservations with. During fall break, we stopped by twice for a night of bowling. The first time we walked in and immediately were assigned a lane and the second time we placed our names on their list to reserve lanes that evening and stopped by before they started open lanes to wait around and have a bite to eat. It's a very family-friendly atmosphere and no one seems to mind our crazy antics (we have a little too much fun bowling). There are automatic bumpers for the younger children or adults that are not-so-great at bowling. There's also a lot of seating, so you don't feel so cramped while waiting for your turn to bowl. On top of the lane availability, the food is delicious and the Aunty that works the counter there is very friendly and is especially great with kids. They also have an electronic system that shows your receipt number to notify you that your food is ready. The bartender is friendly and is quick to serve drinks. The soju is a bit pricey for the size, but it's definitely addicting. I recommend the watermelon flavor and not so much the honeydew flavor (unless you're really into melona bars). I didn't even realize they had karaoke in there (per other reviews) if I knew it would have been game over and I could have serenaded the bar with some of my favorite jams. I initially walked in to see if there were open lanes, before I could say a word to the guy, he tells me "no open lanes", with attitude. No introduction what so ever or to even see what I really needed. So I acknowledged what he said and walked back out. I then called around 5pm to see if there was open lanes, immediately knew it was him, he says "yeah" and i then asked what time I would have to be off the lanes, he responds "what?!", I proceed to repeat my question. He says "12", again with the same attitude. I say, "okay thank you", and once again, "yeah" and hung up. I then go to the bowling alley around 6pm. This all might be up to me but customer service is very important to me. I don't expect you to be happy go lucky or smile at me 24/7. Just got back from bowling with my family and the lady with glasses, black hair with a knee brace working at the front desk,I think her name is Yolanda. She was very mean,very rude and very unprofessional. I'm not sure what her problem was with us maybe because we had a large group. Or maybe she doesn't like poly people cause she kept her eyes on us the entire time. We were the only poly's there. She even cut our game short for all 3 lanes. Like she wanted us out asap. Mind you we were just enjoying ourselves like any other family would with kids. We weren't loud our kids were behaving and enjoying themselves. She even came to us and said are you guys done ?! Short Review: Go to Aiea bowl. Avoid this place at all cost. Long Review: My friends and I were planning to go Bowling on Saturday 5th. I got inside hoping to find them but they were running late. I ask the lady working behind the counter if she had a free lane. She told me she had one. I told her I will wait. "IT'S LANE 8, THE ONE WITH THE GREEN SCREEN." Oh, I'm sorry I couldn't see the lane number which is literally a small number on the corner of the super old CTR screen. There isn't even signs with numbers around. I try to get into one side of the alley, the lady yells at me "HEY, COME BACK HERE" I complied. "DO NOT WALK IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLES LANE" Jesus, alright. I'm sorry that she has to work a low paying wage and have no retirement at her age but you don't have to take it out on customers. The ironic part is that when a group reserved the lane next to us, this "lady" literally walked in front of me to give them a bowling ball. I can't make this shit up. Rules don't apply to them. Everything is super old here (including the people working here). You are not allowed to eat in the area you are bowling. Good luck even getting a "Hi", let alone a "You're welcome." They say they are "family-oriented" in description, but this was completely false. They dont even have bowl ramps for young kids. They were so strict that they had to check our bowling shoes for approval or that I couldn't bowl for my 2 year old old when he wasn't interested anymore. The lady informed us that no outside drinks or hydroflask allowed, but everybody in the league and non-league had one! Leeward was such a fun place to go chill with friends but I feel management really has to train this guy on customer service. When most people think about Leeward Bowl they think bowling. While I never had a bad experience like some of these other people had I thought it was an ok place. I thought the score board was cool. Had some issues with not switching over but that was a quick fix just read the prompts on the screen and follow directions. Another reason I like coming here is they have a hidden gem of a place for food. Where else can you go and get a generous amount of Kal-bi pupu plate and their dynamite chicken is another winner. Don't like bowling, you can go into their sports bar and get some liquid courage and sing some karaoke till ya can't sing no more or until someone takes the mic away. If you aren't into any of those things, then you play some video games and even try your hand at the crane game and win a stuffed animal for the one you're with or even yourself to add to the collection on your back window or seats. read more
