My husband was assessed and accepted for the enhanced level of assistance at Maiden Park by social worker Stephanie McLaughlin, who witnessed the exact level of assistance he would need to use the Apex. Within days of being moved to Maiden Park, my husband suffered verbal abuse as well as physically rough treatment from several aides on the overnight shift who would not assist him with the Apex, telling him that they had bad backs, they didn't know how he got accepted for residence in the first place, it was ridiculous that they had to do this, that he needed to do all of the work himself and that they were not familiar with the Apex and he would have to tell them what they needed to do. When they did finally lift him, my husband repeatedly told them to put him in his wheelchair instead of the recliner in his room. They refused to do what he asked and put him in the recliner anyway, causing him further distress and making it almost impossible to lift him again. Upon discussing this with Jennifer Gilboe the next day she informed us that, after checking with administration, Maiden Park's policy for Enhanced Assisted Living is a light one-hand assist, not nearly the assistance that McLaughlin witnessed during her assessment or the implied level that I was led to believe during conversations with salesperson Kayla Gaiennie. The next day Sarah Marcello told me that my husband was beyond the care level that the facility could provide. She said that administration would not hold us to the agreement made for admission. My husband was sent to emergency and admitted to the hospital. When the social worker from the hospital contacted Maiden Park, Gilboe described the enhanced level of assistance as a LIGHT one-hand assist with an Apex and a two-hand assist WITHOUT the Apex. The social worker asked Gilboe twice to clarify the two-hand assist and she replied again, it is a two-hand assist WITHOUT the Apex. The social worker expressed concern for my husband's safety at Maiden Park, especially since some of the people who would be doing the two-hand assist, with no equipment, had made it clear that they have bad backs and that they did not have to perform at the level he needed. In the meantime, Gilboe and McLaughlin set up an assessment at the hospital. During an email exchange between Ryan and Marcello, Marcello noted that she had no knowledge of the assessment appointment and that she could not be present at the assessment. It should not have been set and that the information she had received from the hospital about my husband's condition did not come close to Maiden Park's required level of admittance. Later that afternoon, McLaughlin contacted the social worker at the hospital and said that the assessment was cancelled. The administrator sent us a reply after getting all the above information, and them some, stating that "their internal investigation" said that "all the allegations were unsubstantiated" BUT they had terminated an employee who said that my husband belonged in a nursing home and that he never should have been accepted at Maiden Park. We are curious how an employee was terminated for making the remarks listed but the internal investigation found all the allegations unsubstantiated. I was also told by a former employee, who left of their own accord, that the staff regularly comments that they don't know how new residents get accepted and complain about the level of care they need to provide them relative to their job description. Between the one-time "registration fee" and the amount of rent that we were denied back, we are out about $8,000. We are working with the local Eldercare Agency to see what else can be done to warn people about Maiden Park. We are also posting this review everywhere we can. My husband moved to another facility just two minutes down the road from Maiden Park and the difference is astounding. The staff, the care and the atmosphere is 100% better. I know that most of the reviews here are glowing, but in the few days my husband was there we saw a totally different picture. read more

My mother has been a resident in the memory care wing at the Legacy at Maiden Park for just over a month. So far I'm pleased with the facilities, as well as the care that she has been given. The staff has been great in helping my mom adjust to her new living situation. read more

My aunt is a resident at Maiden Park. It's a beautiful place. But looks can be deceiving. Within the last four months several beloved staff people have left. That's a total of over 8 0r 9 people in a very short time. The care has worsened and good luck trying to talk to the new director or manager after 6 or 7 pm or weekends when no one is around. My dad and step dad are there for right now. Do not go there! Health dept is making their 3rd visit in one year. They gave the wrong medicine to my step dad and then gave him triple the dosage of another all within 2 months. The person dispensing the medicine is still there. Health Dept validated each complaint. They order them to shampoo the rugs because they were disgusting! Bathrooms don't get cleaned. Aides complain all the time to families about their unhappiness. They rely on those same aides to influence whether a person should be moved from assisted to enhanced! All they had to do was stop giving him dairy products when they know and it is documented that he is lactose intolerant. Wires hanging out of the wall from his pull cord. They keep shrinking the compression socks. They keep losing the towels and wash cloths we buy. They never recognized shingles on a patient until it became very serious. They serve the juice in shot glasses!! Servers in dining room are rude and not helpful at all. My family have called out a server or two because of the way they treated the residents. If the aides on the enhanced side they will NOT help the Assisted side and vice versa. No team work. Upper management never walk around. They stay in offices. Director Liz Richardson has you on speakerphone when you call. You can overhear Shelly telling her what to say. They don't call you when something happens. One resident fell and cut his elbow. Someone bandaged it very poorly and never even let the nurse on duty know. When the nurse found out, she was livid. She had to put water on the gauze to get it off and redress it. No phone call to family. Don't put your parents there. After the holidays we are looking for another facility for both of our parents. We don't want to move them because moving them causes them to go into confusion, hardship and upheaval. But we are left with no other alternative. Please stay away from here. read more

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE TO LEGACY AT MAIDEN PARK IN GREECE, NY. My husband was there for 3 months. I missed 4 days out of 3 months of going to see him. He eloped 2 weeks after his admittance and again shortly thereafter. The facility advertises "safe and secure". So far from the truth you can't believe! The second time he eloped was at 11:26 PM in 20 degree temperatures. How long did it take before he was brought in? Your guess is as good as mine. I have had conflicting timetables! We have been refused to see the tape which tells us someone is "hiding" great information. Two employees were sent out to find him of which they reported him "running". Can you picture a 90 year old man that walks with a cane "running"? When he finally was brought in, it was reported he was cold and chilled. Administration said "he was warmed" and "OK". They also used the excuse "it was change of shifts" and that is why it took longer to go after him. Of course I was not aware of any of this until 9:00 AM the next day! Why wasn't he taken to the hospital to be checked out, not even his Doctor was called. Due to neglect of "Legacy at Maiden Park", Administration called a meeting between them and our family the following Friday. They "kicked him out"! Their words were "he needs a higher level of care than what they can give him". On April 8, 2018 (Sunday after last elopement and meeting), I with other family members and friends, went to visit him only to find him very lethargic and behaving abnormally. We had difficulting waking him, he was walking very slow, his speech was slow and didn't make sense. We asked for a nurse to come and then we questioned what meds he was given. She stated she was a nurse, but we later found out she was only a med tech. (Earlier that day we asked for him to be checked for a UTI.) At that point we asked that an ambulance be called because no one there was doing anything to evaluate him. And this is called "memory care"? NO WAY !!! Alzheimer residents do not need nursing care, they need love and protection that Legacy can not give. He is surely not the first person to elope from there, there have been several elopements, and as of recent another resident has twice. Even the police were called on this person to bring them back inside On another note, a couple weeks after moving in, his shower was not draining properly. It was growing mold around the end where water was standing. One of the "Nayas" reported this, to whom, I do not know. Nothing was done. A different person called the "head of maintenance" of which he checked this out. He said the only way to fix it would be to replace the shower because the pitch was not toward the drain. As of April 29th nothing was done to fix this problem. I believe everything happens for a reason and this was a blessing in disguise because now we can be reassured that he is in a facility where he will be safe and properly cared for. read more
