As an update and after much discussion as a family, we have pulled my son from this school. As much as I'd like my son to continue here because of the cohort of students he's with, my family just doesn't trust his safety in the hands of Principal H or anyone at Vertex Education. I gave my son the option and he chose to leave. Decisions that are made at the top affect a lot of people and unfortunately, the principal's choices and lack of transparency and honesty affected my son enough to make him want to leave. We try to teach kids to treat others with respect and honesty but if your principal's not willing to do it, then the flag couldn't get any more red. On to better things. read more

I have always loved this school for my kids, they have been attending since kinder, and I've been impressed with their growth and knowledge. They have great structure and routine for the students, I believe it helps them thrive especially in a school that is advanced with challenging material, but I know it will truly set them up to be successful adults. I have loved all their teachers! Whenever I have concerns I've always felt heard. I'm also thankful for the driveline, I know it can get crazy at times, but is so safe compared to other schools! They constantly have fun events and things for the kids to do. They are great at communication too, I rather get a bunch of emails everyday because I also get busy so I can be up to date on what's happening/book reports/poems/drills/dress down days/parent square/anything and everything! I am writing this review as an involved family member (aunt) whose niece and nephew are currently enrolled at legacy traditional surprise. My purpose is to alert other families to significant issues regarding the school culture and the administration's failure to address critical safety concerns. Areas of Concern: Targeted Bullying by Staff: My nephew, in particular, has been the target of sustained bullying and social exclusion tactics that appear to be perpetrated by adult teaching staff, rather than just fellow students. This hostile behavior from authority figures has created an unsafe and detrimental learning environment for him. Discriminatory Treatment: It appears that certain families and students are favored, while others--including my niece and nephew--are marginalized. Lack of Administrative Support and Accountability: When their mom attempted to formally report these incidents to the administration and principal, their concerns were consistently dismissed. The administration has employed avoidance tactics (e.g., repeatedly claiming to be "in a meeting") and has refused to engage in meaningful dialogue or launch an investigation into the reported staff misconduct. This demonstrates a troubling lack of accountability. Conclusion: A functional and healthy school environment requires transparency, inclusivity, and a commitment to protecting all students from harm, especially when concerns are raised by family members. Based on our experience with the current climate and the administration's unsupportive and unresponsive behavior, I cannot recommend this institution. Spalding curriculumis used which is fantastic. Weekly spelling tests given. Students sit in rows and a direct instruction approach works for most students. Loved that all grades have monthly poem recitation as well as book reports. Teachers are wonderful. Administration had frequent turnover. In addition, administration at the time could also be biased and give preferential treatment. After awhile you start to notice who is friends with who. Female principals seem to be on power trips, that is especially true of the principal. She likes who she likes and makes it very obvious who she doesn't. As with anything, its keeping up.appearances. I will say legacy does have parent involvement. It also is geared for students who are self motivated. If your child needs more support, legacy is probably not the right choice. Both legacy surprise and west surprise need a class in customer service. I am 35 mins away from meeting the teacher and I have not been able to figure out who it is. I went by the office at 415 and was told that they would not help me until 5. This.is far from the only instance of "your bothering me" attitude that I have to endure. My daughter just started kindergarten here in August 2023 and so far it has been wonderful! Her teacher is great and she has been learning a lot. There is a lot of homework but you get used to it cause it's the same every week. They do give you a lot of resources to utilize if needed to be successful. They really are setting the kids up for success. Drive line is very organized and moves pretty quick once school is out. We have been at legacy Sweetwater and it was great. My kids were getting stair A's The teachers were consistent then after Covid things became to relaxed. One of my kids teachers treated the class like they were her grandchildren, cannot contribute feedback and she holds a grudge Such great teachers quit because of administrative staff... which is a joke! In my experience, after several years of enrolling my child at this school, I have observed a troubling decline in leadership under JH Vice Principal Hendrickson. Her history of targeted interrogations of students (as expressed by some parents), combined with unprofessional questioning, has raised significant concerns. There is even a petition with thousands of signatures calling for her questionable character in her role in the dismissal of a teacher over a Crocs issue, which further reflects the growing dissatisfaction. The handling of incidents lacks integrity, and I no longer feel that my child is safe here. It's so convenient that the Surprise website lacks the updates otherwise I would've avoided this school year had I known she is still running things. While the teachers and staff are dedicated, their efforts are limited by the current administration. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this school. read more

This school is a piece of shit because they overworked students and staff. Bullied students and staff the principal denied threatening allegations against students; did not enough food for the students. Principal Dailey is self centered and only cared about himself; bullied staff and student. He wouldn't address violent issues. He is married and flirts with divorced teachers for attention. He didn't do anything about students that were high on drugs. He lets students smoke in bathrooms. He let the boys vandalize the bathroom. un-fair dress code regarding shorts for girls because the boys could wear booty shorts and not get in trouble even though they wear a uniform. The girls got in trouble for wearing a tutu on a dress up day and got yelled at because they thought is was too short: when the boys wore it, it was encouraged; even though the girl was wearing jeans underneath the tutu itself but the boy was not in jeans underneath. This school is a place for bad memories and trauma. Teachers have obvious favorites, and those that were favorites got good grades even though they did the assignment wrong: they would also get more bathroom passes while others that were not didn't receive the same treatment of bathroom passes and good grades. When students had medical emergencies and tried to call parents they got their phones taken away; and even though they had bad GPA's they where still passed. read more

I had high hopes for my kids attending this location, they had attended the deer valley location in the past and we had a great experience. My kids were in a public school this last year in Peoria and the drive was too much, I had to switch them to a school in surprise this year and again, I knew the expectations and our family had loved Legacy. Fast forward to enrollment, did everything online and then was told we were in and didn't have to worry about withdraw from previous school. Got a text at the beginning of July that 1/4 of my kids was still enrolled in their previous school. Called legacy told me it was the public schools fault and again not to worry. Then I had a question about my sons schedule Hilary told me she "i had 3 mins of her time to talk" so asked when my 7th grader was supposed to be picking his classes- again we are a transfer and nobody said a single THING about his classes, interests nothing. I then ask Hilary what my son's classes are. She told me they picked them in March. We enrolled in May so that didn't make sense to me. She then asked me his interests and I told her sports, PE, etc. he's a 12 year old boy- what do you think? I told her he liked STEM and she asked me what stem was I told her and she said "yeah he'll have science and math class" well DUH?! How are you even working in education and you don't know what STEM in? Embarrassing. Told me that he probably won't like his schedule and that he was not even PE. I demanded a change in his schedule and she told me that she could only change PE but everything else was principal's approval. How inconsiderate of this school to not only have no care about the child's interest and to literally make a child feel so out of place coming from another school and never took the time to even call or ask, even email!! Blows my mind. Dis enrolled all 4 of my kids that day. To top it off, when we did re enroll in a different school, their previous public school had reached out to make sure it was okay to release the records to the new school so again, they never got the withdraw forms. So glad I stayed away from this nightmare of a school, I can't even imagine being a parent here. read more

After teacher here for 3 years, I can tell you that in MOST respects, parents can get a good deal. However, class size (averages in the JH are are 33 per class), is far from ideal. That's something to take into consideration. This review is more for those who may be considering working there. As for teachers and staff - they are AMAZING. However, the company that runs the school - Vertex - is horrible. They do not treat teachers as professionals who have multiple degrees, years of continued professional development, and have been in the trenches for years. They do not trust them to do their job, and control every aspect of your work, like Stepford Wives. They pile on demands such as testing, data, lesson plans, and then, oh yeah, teaching the students - that comes last. Vertex employees, however, make HUGE bucks, have outrageous benefits, and do all expenses paid trips to places across the country to start their school year. This year, they chose Boston, then cut teacher pay for 301 hours from $5,000 at the end of last school year to $1,000 in 24-25 without telling the staff. And if we don't meet the goal THEY set for us? That drops to $500 - at the end of the year when you've already contributed 301 hours. . I guess they're saving up for a trip abroad. Run, don't walk from this employer. I can promise you, you will sacrifice your sanity, health, family, and mental health, and will die "taking one for the team." read more

Ok I went to this school in 3rd through 5th probably the only good thing about this school was the teachers (especially mrs powers). The band teacher mr Evert he was the worst he was doing good teaching me the flute at first then he completely gave up on teaching me. He picked favourites one of them was my friend charlottes who whenever I say I hated him she said he was the best. Then at our concert he skipped my duet he went on to like 5 after I was supposed to go. So me and the person I was doing my duet with were saying his name and he was ignoring us. Then he finally answered and we told him he skipped us and he proceeded to say " I guess you can go". So I hate him. Although the only reson I didn't switch to P.E. is because of the choir we had the best teacher her name was Mrs Owen. I give her so much credit she was amazing. Anyways with the nurse once I whacked my head on a pole and went to the nurse and proceeded to do no tests and just give me an ice pack and then send me back outside. So ya if you want to send your kids here I wouldn't and take the student advice. read more

Was a student here and in second grade I was in 9 square a legend game at the time and this teacher comes out saying to stop TOUCHING THE STRUCTURE OF THE 9 SQUARE and then the next day the teacher banned it and the protesting started we said 9 Square Back!!! And there special needs teachers other h to en my speech one just HORRIBLE and it was exhausting in the Mozart program to much work advanced making me depressed. My oldest goes here. It's a great school with an advanced teaching method. Sometimes they seem to do a little much compared to what we would have done at the same age. In 1st grade they're learning way more than I would have thought and 30 spelling words a week. The area is a little cramped but mostly organized for drop off and pick up. Today I took my son to the Meet The Teacher event and was excited to have my first experience with my son where will be attending this upcoming August as a Kinder. When we went to the check-in booth, my son was scheduled for a PM Class. I requested in my application last summer for an AM Class due to my work schedule. When I had asked why my son was in a PM class and are we able to request for a AM Class again. The women behind the booth immediately interrupted and deliberately said the class was full. It was a lottery. Without any eye contact or even a real conversation. My husband and I felt so awkward and walked away. I wished they made the effort of communicating in regards of the lottery since last year even if we requested an AM class schedule. Or even tell us ahead of time. We both felt the racism and the white privileged. We didn't even stay to meet the teacher. Didn't see the point if that was our first experience interacting with the staff at the school. We let our son play in the playground for a few minutes and went straight back to the parking lot. Definitely beware if you are a family of color. read more

Horrible school...Teachers can't spend time with the students due to the huge class sizes..my son was in the school 2 weeks and said the teacher never spoke to him except to tell him to stop crying (Miss Lundberg) My son also said he knew none of his classmates names due to the teacher not introducing everyone and the kids not being able to say two words. The kids have to walk around in a straight line with their hands behind their backs and sit in their desks a certain way with "bubble lips..." ( wtf are bubble lips?) Sorry but that's not what kindergarten is supposed to be...it's supposed to be fun and where you meet new friends that you're going to spend the rest of your school years with. I knew the homework was extensive and the work was a bit harder but I wasn't under the impression it was basically a military school. If you want you child to have school years they'll enjoy, do not send them here! read more

When Legacy first opened it was everything we wanted. Small class sizes, back to school basic teaching etc.... over the past year and a half that has changed significantly. The classes are almost maxed out with 30-34 students (the school in general is maxed out at being as big as a HS) Specials teachers share a room and have to push a cart into classes) The kids get about 10 min to eat lunch if that. By the time they get in the cafeteria there are so many kids per grade level it takes forever to get through the lunch line. At recess the little kids are supposed to be on one side and bigger kids to the other, they end up mixing and the littles get pushed around or hear inappropriate things. I personally like being a part of a PTA so I know where raised money is going. Legacy has a PVO and it is not shared with families where or how much money there is. We were told each grade level would get 1 paid field trip per year, but twice my kids have either have had a field trip at the school or we had to pay for it. You get a feel that many students and parents feel entitled about going to Legacy, the parents pages are filled with many issues about, bullying ,theft, kids who should have been kicked out still there years later (so much for their zero tolerance policy) parents in general being rude to each other in driveline etc.... The one great thing about Legacy are the teachers. They have some gems there. read more

I have been so pleased with this school and staff. My daughter is in first grade this year. She's on a 504 plan for medical issues. I have felt she has been taken care of and concerns are met. She is thriving in this learning environment. She can be a handful and so was worried that the strict structure wouldn't mesh well with her. My kids have all gone to this school for the past two years and have had a great experience thus far (for the most part), but I will say...I do feel as though some of the administrators don't take into account the parents concerns or wishes. This year has been rough with a new teacher on campus by the name of Forrester whom teaches 6th grade. Because she hasn't been able to keep good control of her classroom she has allowed the students to make the rules and execute according to those rules. Seems ridiculous when I know a masters degree buys you more then that on how to develop a plan to make a change in the classroom culture. read more

Well my views on this school have DRASTICALLY changed. My daughters are both straight A student's but there grades have taken a curve due to ENORMOUS packed classes. My youngest daughter has a slight speech issue and 1yrs 1/2 later STILL NO SPEECH CLASSES. Now I'm paying for private speech therapy. A 7th grader brought drugs into the school and passed out in the bathroom, ALOT of very toxic bullying were a girl wanted to kill herself in 6th grade. The bullying is HORRIBLE the school does NOTHING about it and if your new good luck, Also girls sports teams are HORRIBLE, the coaches are awesome It's just the kids are very entitled, I don't know why? But a lot of the parents think this way too. Last time I checked their were No Billionaires running around at that school that attributed to the success of humanity ‍ Anyways save yourself the stress! Just don't do it, this particular Legacy is horrible. I can't speak for other ones in the valley but their are Tons of great schools around here, make sure you really do your research .
