    Fried Beef Bao, Spring Roll
    Alyssa G.

In my numerous trips to Chinatown, this was the first time I have seen this particular shop. I was in need of quick service with someplace to sit on a lunch break from Jury Duty. You order at a kiosk, which is fine by me so everything is accurate and I can read food descriptions (I have a shellfish allergy so this is helpful to me in Chinatown). The fried beef bao came out slightly crispy, but still pillowy with a good amount of filling. The flavors were great! The spring rolls were hot, crunchy, and filled with delicious vegetables. The pork and cabbage dumplings were steamed to perfection--they kept their shape, but were soft, and oh so flavorful. The prices were fair for quick service items I probably would not attempt at home. The bathroom was spotless, the seating area immaculate, and it was quiet, but not like I was in a dumpling library. All the items you would need from napkins to chopsticks to plates were readily available for you to grab. The presentation was so cute, the plate looked like a basket, but so much easier to clean, haha. I enjoyed this surprise discovery and look forward to eating here again!

This is a really great spot for dumplings and noodles. Everything tasted super fresh and was cooked to order. If you come during peak hours, it does get a little packed inside, so just something to keep in mind. We tried a bunch of dumplings, and honestly, they were all delicious. They also have really good noodle soups, which are pretty filling on their own, so be careful not to order too much. The vibe is very classically reminiscent of Asia, nothing fancy but comfortable and homey. I'd definitely recommend this as a solid dumplings and noodles spot.

Fresh, flavorful beef Bao. That's the tagline here. I haven't had great luck with bao in the Midwest, and I think it comes down to finding a spot that doesn't sparingly fill their dumplings or reuse old ingredients. This place had great dumplings. The fillings tasted great, and there was a little bit of a wait which is reassuring to know that I wasn't getting pre-made dumplings. The dumplings were hot, fresh and nicely stuffed with beef. The restaurant itself is pretty unassuming in the best way. I would definitely come back for more dumplings when I'm in Chinatown.

I stopped into Legend Dumpling + Bao on a Saturday afternoon. It was fairly quiet when I arrived, but the place started filling up once I sat down. Ordering is done through a kiosk, which was actually really helpful since it shows photos of everything on the menu. I decided on the pork bao buns, and they came out in about five minutes. They were hot, soft, and really flavorful. Two was the perfect amount for a quick bite and kept me going while I explored the neighborhood. I really enjoyed my time with LD+B, and look forward to visiting again.

This is my go to spot for dumplings in Chinatown. You order on the kiosk and the staff calls out your number when the food is ready. They have premade dumpling sauce that is perfect for dipping. You can add chili oil if you prefer spicy. The dumplings are freshly steamed or fried. I like the fried dumplings. They have a crispy exterior and a juicy filling. It's a simple restaurant, but if you want dumplings would recommend this spot. Inside there's a few tables. It gets busy, so it's difficult to find seating at times. I'll be back to try other things on the menu!

I was very impressed by the quality of these dumplings! We got pan-fried and they had a nice crisp. The dumplings were juicy and had a good filling ratio. You order through a screen and then the dumplings came out fairly quickly, There's a table with all types of sauces that you can fill on your own, which I always appreciate. The interior was very cozy and casual! Overall, I was very impressed with the quality and thought the price was unbeatable. Definitely one of the best dumpling spots around Chinatown.

For those of y'all who want a quick answer: YES. Go here. Eat. Indulge. Enjoy. It's tasty and worth the trek out to Chinatown. For the rest of y'all who enjoy a gentle perusal of words and banter, here's the full review! My foodie-partner-in-crime is a BIIIG dumpling fan and chose Legend Dumpling and Bao as our spot of the day. We arrived during non-peak hours, so the seating in the dining space was a-plenty and we were able to peruse the menu (via the order kiosks) at our leisure. I really appreciated the ordering kiosks, as I'm a visual kind-of-person and enjoyed seeing pictures of the assortment of appetizers, bao, and dumplings. We ordered the spiced beef appetizer, pork soup dumplings, and steamed beef bao. While waiting for our order, we grabbed a small bowl of the "pumping sauce" and the chili oil that were at the condiment & cutlery/tableware station. I'm a sauce-sipper (meaning I like to sip sauce on its own to experience its stand-alone flavor) and my eyes opened WIDE when I tasted that pumping sauce. It was OUTRAGEOUSLY DELICIOUS!!! Even more tasty when pairing it with the dumplings and bao. The soup dumplings were by far my favorite!! They were perfectly steamed, the pork was well-flavored, and the combination of the soup with the pumping sauce and chili oil made for a knock-your-socks-off-tasy experience! The beef appetizer was light and refreshing - with the cilantro being an absolute delight. And while the beef bao were tasty, I would opt for more soup dumplings in the future. Overall, what a spot!! I highly recommend visiting this eatery to all locals and travelers alike!

I love dumplings, so we had to stop here! The prices were amazing and the food was so good! The staff was so sweet and I think I will be dreaming of eating here again in my dreams!

I really loved this place, right on the outside of China Towns Market. This is One of the only places we visited 2 days in a row during our visit to Chicago. The Fried Beef Dumplings are to die for. Thier Dumpling sauce is Top Tier making the sis all the better. Your also have the option for chili oil and sarracha. The service was Great as well Auntie really back there making magic. The inside is cute aswell with art along the wall and plant you wearing

This place was actually so tastey! It was a little hot inside but the food made up for it. They were fast, delicious and good sized. I would love to come back here!

Legend Dumpling and Bao is quite dirty with napkins and paper waste all over the ground throughout the dining floor, but I don't blame the one poor cook to be have no time to clean the dining tables as there are no waitstaff. Just one cook to hold down the whole restaurant is a bit rough. The pork soup dumplings is the star of the meal. I really enjoyed the bite sized juicy pork fillings in each dumpling.

This place was not good. Self order and then grab a seat. Their XLB was more of a meat bao than a XLB. Skin resembled a bao and looked like a bao. Was super disappointed. The noodles were okay but definitely needed more seasoning. The steamed dumplings were decent.

Super quick service despite it being packed that day! The noodles were done in minutes, and the xiao long bao followed quickly. An assuming place in Chinatown with self serve kiosks and a sauce station. You can pick your own seating! Got the legend house special rice noodle with tomato broth. Could've used more toppings and protein, but overall really liked the dish. The beef was flavorful. Also tried the xiao long bao, which did not have too much soup inside. The "pumping" sauce and the chili oil were absolutely delicious!! Note to self: try the potstickers next time!!

It was very much between lunch and dinner time, so the restaurant was completely empty inside. My friend and I perused the menu board and eventually each decided to get a regular sized build-your-own bowl. In my poke bowl, I got spicy tuna, salmon, and scallop as the proteins and purple rice as the base. I really appreciate them allowing three different protein choices, variety is great! I then got an assortment of other toppings, including my favorites, fish roe and imitation crab. Everything tasted very fresh as expected, though I think in the future I'd rather get a 2nd portion of scallop instead of spicy tuna (just a personal preference). My friend dined outside the restaurant on the sidewalk since it was a nice day, and interestingly some birds came by and basically begged for food. The price is super reasonable for the quality and portions and I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area. More likely though, I'll order delivery again from them first! The staff member who helped us was incredibly kind and patient, especially with my sister, and I love the build-your-own bowl concept where you can customize everything to your liking. FYI everything is freshly prepared in-house. I ordered a regular bowl with rice and greens, tuna, spicy tuna, and tofu, then added toppings like kimchi, corn, carrots, ginger, cucumber, onions, and a crunchy topping. They finished it with garlic aioli and another sauce, so good! The garlic aioli was a standout. My mom ordered a similar bowl with tuna, spicy tuna, and cooked shrimp. She was pleasantly surprised by the value and kept saying how much she loved the food. The portions were generous, we even had leftovers to enjoy later. We also tried the spicy miso soup for dinner, and she loved that just as much. My baby sister kept it simple with rice and spam. She said she liked it, but true to her picky nature, she took one bite and that was it. Overall, a fantastic experience with fresh ingredients, great service, and generous portions. Highly recommend! Granted the last time I went here was in 2019 to their old location just a few blocks up on Lincoln Avenue but it seems they got a corporate makeover after shutting down during the pandemic and rebranding. Maybe they have a new owner...? It's much more spacious and brighter with Herman Miller stool seats, a pinball machine and high ceilings. But with all of these new trendy upgrades it has lost its cozy, relaxing small business neighborhood vibe the old location had IMO. They added bubble tea and Mochi donuts to their menu. They also were playing rap & trap music and I honestly thought I had walked into the wrong place when I went in. Gone are the guys busy behind the counter. You order via an ordering kiosk (they seem to be popular with places cutting down on staff) made by one person behind the counter. My order was made quickly but I'm not really sure about the kiosk ordering system since you need to input your phone number. I ordered my favorite bowl of theirs, Jimmy's Creation. The first time I tried it in 2018 it was so good I nearly skipped out of the place and wanted to eat here everyday. It's still good but the rice is much more sticky, a little too sticky for my liking since I had to break it up into chunks with my chopsticks. The sauce was a bit too sweat also. Was it always this sweat...? A minor issue though based on preference I guess. There's a large number of ingredients and sauces that don't always taste the best together. I did appreciate the menu with steps to orde. It helped my husband who doesn't get poke as often to decide. My 2 cents: a preset poke bowl menu and pictures might help the ordering go more smoothly. The Tuna and Salmon were good, the shrimp was miniscule. Sushi rice was delicious and overall it felt like a nice healthy and fresh meal. Poke is overall expensive so portions were on par with other locations. I think its the lack of marinating the protein or sauces that are lacking in flavor. There was a variety of texture but no saltiness or spiciness or umami flavoring to offset the blandness or the veggies and protein. Interestingly enough, the spam musubi was one of the best I've had in a while. I loved the egg addition to the 2 slices of spam and warm rice.
