    Lamb dumplings

This is a really great spot for dumplings and noodles. Everything tasted super fresh and was cooked to order. If you come during peak hours, it does get a little packed inside, so just something to keep in mind. We tried a bunch of dumplings, and honestly, they were all delicious. They also have really good noodle soups, which are pretty filling on their own, so be careful not to order too much. The vibe is very classically reminiscent of Asia, nothing fancy but comfortable and homey. I'd definitely recommend this as a solid dumplings and noodles spot.

In my numerous trips to Chinatown, this was the first time I have seen this particular shop. I was in need of quick service with someplace to sit on a lunch break from Jury Duty. You order at a kiosk, which is fine by me so everything is accurate and I can read food descriptions (I have a shellfish allergy so this is helpful to me in Chinatown). The fried beef bao came out slightly crispy, but still pillowy with a good amount of filling. The flavors were great! The spring rolls were hot, crunchy, and filled with delicious vegetables. The pork and cabbage dumplings were steamed to perfection--they kept their shape, but were soft, and oh so flavorful. The prices were fair for quick service items I probably would not attempt at home. The bathroom was spotless, the seating area immaculate, and it was quiet, but not like I was in a dumpling library. All the items you would need from napkins to chopsticks to plates were readily available for you to grab. The presentation was so cute, the plate looked like a basket, but so much easier to clean, haha. I enjoyed this surprise discovery and look forward to eating here again!

Fresh, flavorful beef Bao. That's the tagline here. I haven't had great luck with bao in the Midwest, and I think it comes down to finding a spot that doesn't sparingly fill their dumplings or reuse old ingredients. This place had great dumplings. The fillings tasted great, and there was a little bit of a wait which is reassuring to know that I wasn't getting pre-made dumplings. The dumplings were hot, fresh and nicely stuffed with beef. The restaurant itself is pretty unassuming in the best way. I would definitely come back for more dumplings when I'm in Chinatown.

I stopped into Legend Dumpling + Bao on a Saturday afternoon. It was fairly quiet when I arrived, but the place started filling up once I sat down. Ordering is done through a kiosk, which was actually really helpful since it shows photos of everything on the menu. I decided on the pork bao buns, and they came out in about five minutes. They were hot, soft, and really flavorful. Two was the perfect amount for a quick bite and kept me going while I explored the neighborhood. I really enjoyed my time with LD+B, and look forward to visiting again.

This is my go to spot for dumplings in Chinatown. You order on the kiosk and the staff calls out your number when the food is ready. They have premade dumpling sauce that is perfect for dipping. You can add chili oil if you prefer spicy. The dumplings are freshly steamed or fried. I like the fried dumplings. They have a crispy exterior and a juicy filling. It's a simple restaurant, but if you want dumplings would recommend this spot. Inside there's a few tables. It gets busy, so it's difficult to find seating at times. I'll be back to try other things on the menu!

I was very impressed by the quality of these dumplings! We got pan-fried and they had a nice crisp. The dumplings were juicy and had a good filling ratio. You order through a screen and then the dumplings came out fairly quickly, There's a table with all types of sauces that you can fill on your own, which I always appreciate. The interior was very cozy and casual! Overall, I was very impressed with the quality and thought the price was unbeatable. Definitely one of the best dumpling spots around Chinatown.

For those of y'all who want a quick answer: YES. Go here. Eat. Indulge. Enjoy. It's tasty and worth the trek out to Chinatown. For the rest of y'all who enjoy a gentle perusal of words and banter, here's the full review! My foodie-partner-in-crime is a BIIIG dumpling fan and chose Legend Dumpling and Bao as our spot of the day. We arrived during non-peak hours, so the seating in the dining space was a-plenty and we were able to peruse the menu (via the order kiosks) at our leisure. I really appreciated the ordering kiosks, as I'm a visual kind-of-person and enjoyed seeing pictures of the assortment of appetizers, bao, and dumplings. We ordered the spiced beef appetizer, pork soup dumplings, and steamed beef bao. While waiting for our order, we grabbed a small bowl of the "pumping sauce" and the chili oil that were at the condiment & cutlery/tableware station. I'm a sauce-sipper (meaning I like to sip sauce on its own to experience its stand-alone flavor) and my eyes opened WIDE when I tasted that pumping sauce. It was OUTRAGEOUSLY DELICIOUS!!! Even more tasty when pairing it with the dumplings and bao. The soup dumplings were by far my favorite!! They were perfectly steamed, the pork was well-flavored, and the combination of the soup with the pumping sauce and chili oil made for a knock-your-socks-off-tasy experience! The beef appetizer was light and refreshing - with the cilantro being an absolute delight. And while the beef bao were tasty, I would opt for more soup dumplings in the future. Overall, what a spot!! I highly recommend visiting this eatery to all locals and travelers alike!

This place was actually so tastey! It was a little hot inside but the food made up for it. They were fast, delicious and good sized. I would love to come back here!

Legend Dumpling and Bao is quite dirty with napkins and paper waste all over the ground throughout the dining floor, but I don't blame the one poor cook to be have no time to clean the dining tables as there are no waitstaff. Just one cook to hold down the whole restaurant is a bit rough. The pork soup dumplings is the star of the meal. I really enjoyed the bite sized juicy pork fillings in each dumpling.

This place was not good. Self order and then grab a seat. Their XLB was more of a meat bao than a XLB. Skin resembled a bao and looked like a bao. Was super disappointed. The noodles were okay but definitely needed more seasoning. The steamed dumplings were decent.

Super quick service despite it being packed that day! The noodles were done in minutes, and the xiao long bao followed quickly. An assuming place in Chinatown with self serve kiosks and a sauce station. You can pick your own seating! Got the legend house special rice noodle with tomato broth. Could've used more toppings and protein, but overall really liked the dish. The beef was flavorful. Also tried the xiao long bao, which did not have too much soup inside. The "pumping" sauce and the chili oil were absolutely delicious!! Note to self: try the potstickers next time!!

5 stars based on Bahn mi, cha gio and iced coffee I ordered today…read more I must have been part of an early crowd. When I arrived, there was only one other table dining, which made it GREAT for me. It's a decent size hall with 10+ table arrangements, making it pretty great for a group to enjoy their lunch. It also featured a couple of kiosks for ordering, which I thought was a bit easy to miss, since it was tucked away in the left corner when you walked in. It looked like there was also a cashier available to take orders, if you miss the kiosks. I've seen places where they simply do not have anyone at the register to take orders, but that wasn't the case for Lotus. Before deciding to visit them today, I had an impression that their menu choices were very limited compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I was used to. I'm certainly not complaining, since I'm usually a huge fan of select "specialty" approach in restaurants. That's why I decided to order one of their Bahn mi, where I normally would have chosen pho for my first visit. And it didn't disappoint. First off, the size of the sandwich was good. I've had it where they charged a buck or two less, but they weren't big enough to be a full "lunch" portion. Lotus' size, I thought was decent. I had ordered one of their cha gios just in case the sandwich failed to fill me, but I think I would have been okay without it. Cha gio was super good tho! Oh, and the iced V-coffee was good, too. Typically, they'll bring out the coffee before your meal is ready, probably because they're ready-made in the morning and all you'd need to do is pour them over ice. I of course, have known legitimate mom n' pop places, where they'll actually bring out coffee as it's brewing in Phin (stainless steel coffee filter) and a glass of ice with condensed milk, so you can wait for the coffee to finish brewing and pour yourself one, which is what I *always* prefer. Not here, but no big deal. You can usually tell how good the food is going to be by trying their iced coffee. Even though V-coffee isn't known for using "incredible" beans, the balance of the strength of coffee and condensed milk *does* make a big difference in your experience. I felt this place had it correct! I'll definitely come back myself and even bring coworkers or my family to have their Bahn mi again. What I'm not sure about is whether I want to try their pho or bun. First, they don't offer too many variations, so I'm stuck choosing from just a few. (For example, I usually go for "brisket-only" or a combo of brisket and rare steak, but they didn't seem to have those options. Granted, it's possible they'll make it happen if I asked) Secondly, I think they're a couple bucks more expensive than what I would like to pay for a bowl of pho. We'll see.

Before that, I…read morechecked out a few eateries on the 4th floor of the Nordstrom building, but nothing really stood out, and honestly, none of them seemed very busy and the one restaurant Lao Sze Chuan was way too expensive, $30+ entrees were average and the place wasn't busy at all. So I decided to try Shang Noodle, which was tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's across from the Nordstrom building, past Labriola's, down some steps and about a block away located on the south side of the street. As soon as I walked in, and I wasn't expecting this but the restaurant was extremely loud and nearly every seat was taken and everybody seemed to be enjoying themself, families, couples and groups. I figured that was a good sign and it signaled to me that the food was probably good! At first, the host wanted me to sit at the bar, which I politely declined because I don't usually sit at bars, also, I was there to eat, not pick up somebody! I noticed a small table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No 'tude either! As far as my server goes, she was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit and probably because I didn't look like the other customers who were more familiar with the cuisine. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken Chow Fun. The pot stickers were a little small, but crispy and very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce on the side which I'm glad I did because it paired nicely with the pot stickers instead of that plain vinegar sauce they usually serve you. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was more than generous, and the char-grilled beef had a great umami flavor. A few of the rice noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall though it was quite enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable to me, considering it was on the dinner menu, the portion sizes were humongous and the restaurant was located on the Near North Side, which is usually quite pricey. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead, or go with friends of mine.
