We got free validated parking across the street at the Dole Cannery parking structure! We waited in the lobby of the Castle & Cooke Building where our Escort checked our names off the list and led us to the 4th Floor. Along the way, the walls were filled with portraits of previous performers such as Jim Brickman and Na Leo Pilimehana. Impressive! After walking around to what seemed to be the back of the building, we entered a large living room full of sofas, ottomans, barstools and tables. We were warmly greeted and invited to partake in refreshments of shrimp platter, croissant sandwiches, fresh fruit, pasta salad and bottled water. The Emcee, Kevin Jones of Star 101.9, kept things lively by introducing the band members, asking engaging questions , and adding interesting trivia. He really helped make this event a more comfortable and intimate one. My friends and I sat in the first row where we could check out the jewelry and shoes (and bare feet) of the band. We enjoyed watching them communicate through gestures and eye contact and how they pressed the buttons of the amplifiers with their feet! I truly enjoyed watching Ka'imi's fingers glide over the frets of his guitar so effortlessly. ..He's a very talented songwriter even though he sang songs from the Doobie Brothers, Prince, and the Pixies, too. I was also amused by his playfulness as he approached the electric fan which blew his long hair wildly around his face! We're grateful to be invited to the Oceanic VIP Music Hall. It's a very special place! Hope to get another chance to return!

This has to be my FAVORITE part of Clear Channel! Posters on the wall from previous artists that have performed to the couches you can chill on, how can anyone not like it here? Sometimes it can get cold, it just depends. I don't know what else to say, if I had to pick watching an artist at the music hall or at a venue, I'd rather it be here. It's just cool like that.

The venue is small but intimate concert venue where the audience and artists are able to interact. The studio has really great sound and perfect for small concerts. Proceeds from concerts go to the artists. It has a very short lobby and reception area and the bathroom access is a ways from the studio. You check in with the receptionist and they lead you to the concert area. Street parking is available for concert goers and the venue is easy to find. It is accross Don Quijote.

You know that you're getting old when you start seeing so much of your friends and classmates at this concert, I had to stop and think...Am I in Downtown Las Vegas?? Anywho... I was always a fan of America's music from their very beginnings and they put on a excellent concert singing all their hit songs. I was really surprise how many damn guitars they have,it seemed like there was a guitar change on almost every song they played. America jammed out tunes that kept the crowd happy,clapping and singing along throughout the concert. This concert was totally worth it as there were no intermission breaks, they just rocked it non-stop. I can say that I thought that little girl who came out and danced on stage during the last song of the encore was so Awesomely Cute! Great way to end a wonderful concert!

At the end of the night, while I was clearly distressed searching for it, a gentleman introduced himself as the janitor and kindly offered to help by arranging an Uber for us to get home safely. Thankfully, my phone was found by the time the ride arrived, but his kindness and willingness to help left a lasting impression on me. If anyone knows who this kind person is, I would truly appreciate the chance to personally thank him. His thoughtful gesture spoke volumes about the care your staff shows toward your patrons. The venue is definitely small and unfortunately the a/c was nonexistent. My friends and I had to step out couple of times to take a refresher outside. Also the area is in Chinatown and didn't feel too safe. Make sure you have Uber ready to go cause they were kicking people out from the streets.

Tim and Carolyn (owners) are very welcoming couple who work in tandem to operate this place. Tim is the chef, artist, and manages the music events upstairs. Carolyn is the musical director for the school downstairs. All proceeds from dinner/shows help support the Manoa School of Music and the Arts downstairs. The ambiance is beautiful and well-decorated with plants, art, paintings. Tim is an artist, so you will find his paintings for sale too. We took one home during the NYE event and admire it everyday. Your ticket includes live music and a tasty 4 course gourmet meal who is cooked by Chef Tim. Just a word of warning is that the meal is on the smaller side. The dishes are served on mostly paper plates but I assume that's how they also keep the costs lower. Most of the attendees seem to be 50+ so the food might be catering to those who are older and don't eat as much. Although we ended up being content by the end with drinks. You will likely end up sitting with strangers since the tables are large, circular, and can seat up to 6-8 people. This can be a good way to socialize and make some new friends. They also have a bar that has very reasonable prices. $25 wine bottles and only $7.50 for beer/wine glasses. Cocktails available too. They have Salsa on Thursday nights so I walked from my hotel to this place which ended about 15-17 minutes which is not that bad. I had to walk through a sketchy area while following my navigation on my phone. When I left the place, I walked through the Ala Moana Center which I felt safer. $15 cover charge which includes a ticket for a free drink which I used to get a bottle water. Small bottle of water, but still nice. I got there during the middle of the lesson in which I stood back and just watch. It was the super basic steps in which I already know so I didn't want to partake, plus I saw that there was not an uneven number of dudes so there's no need for me to jump in. Haha... I made it a goal for that night that if I danced 5xs then I will be happy to leave as I was not feeling the best. I did dance 5xs, and then I left. I'm glad that I got to salsa danced in Hawaii, but it's definitely not as fun as salsa dancing back home in California. Lol.. Not much people there. Mostly couples who are complete newbs. From beginning to the end, it was just 5/5 the show is very interactive and story telling, you really get to learn about the culture and the show is just beautiful, the host is funny, roams around the stage area as you learn and just great times! Now the food, it's very decent, snow crab legs, whole fish, the seafood chowder is 1000/10, sushi is average, there's lau lau pork, lechon, Korean bbq, Kim chee, prime rib, and many sides like beef fried rice, pasta, clams n shrimp, vegetables, yams, and a whole lot more I didn't even get to try. Attempted to check in at 5:15 which is the VIP standard and was told by the hostess to go to the back of the line. While trying to explain I had purchased the VIP package, the original hostess would not acknowledge until another manager was involved. The group had a low customer service standard clearly. Felt racially motivated, so beware people of color! The host tried to make up for it but he was a sassy guy too. The team is clearly tight knit and went out of their way to give our group a poor experience. Would not return to Luau or the Hyatt Regency because of this poor experience. Hard to enjoy a 4 hour Luau when you are treated so terribly from the start. Cheap, low cost production. I do not recommend this Luau. The dancers, music were fine.

The problem and the disappointment is that the drinks are way too expensive. $16 for mediocre drinks that are mostly ice cubes in small plastic cups. And then, if they do have specials, they run out of them. Before the event even starts. That's my biggest problem with this place. This is the only queer space on the island that has weak small drinks. For a high price. That is not a typical culture of a queer space. All the other queer spaces have much larger stronger better drinks, and the prices are lower. It's really a bummer because I will only order one drink here and then if I want to have more drinks go somewhere else. But it's OK shouldn't have to drink to have fun anyway as I suppose. Even the Republic has bigger better drinks, and they're not even a dedicated queer space.
