Our friends ordered a Grilled Turkey Reuben on Rye Bread loaded with sliced turkey, sauerkraut, 1000 Island dressing, and melted Swiss cheese and a Mamie's Open Faced Hot Sandwich with a huge amount of fresh-baked Turkey Breast topped with gravy and another huge amount of mashed potatoes (check out the pictures). I enjoyed my favorite sandwich, which is Mamie's Favorite Triple Decker Shrimp Salad and Crab Cake Club with chips. My husband was taken aback with the size of his Country Fried Steak and mashed potatoes. Everyone had something to take home with them. The portions are more than generous. The one thing that Mamie's always does that makes them stand out from all the other restaurants is that they give you a free dessert. We were all so full, we took our to go. The young women at the register told me items could be modified, so I asked if I could get a veggie wrap. She said yes, but that I'd need to order the chicken bacon wrap if I wanted avocado. I ordered it and asked them to remove the chicken breast, cheese, bacon, and mayo--essentially leaving me with a veggie wrap. The total came to $16.88. I spoke with the manager, who offered no solution. Instead, he told me the avocado costs more than the meat. After a group of 12 people came in to support their business, that response felt incredibly disappointing and unprofessional. What a shameful way to treat customers--especially when they're trying to accommodate dietary needs in good faith. I will never return and my coworkers (who are not vegan) won't go back either. Hopefully, we'll find another place in the area to host future events.
