I don't know how this place gets by charging what they do. We took our 3 year old here with his cousins (11 of us total- ages ranging 3-5) and spent maybe an hour max before the kids were easily persuaded to leave. Our son seemed to like the flying ride, but not enough to go back on a second time. He was disappointed by the other ride on the track (probably due to being a Disney kid and having high expectations). The play area and build a car were "okay" but excitement faded fast for all 5 of the kids. I would only ever take my son back if he becomes super into building Lego cars or if adults are free. What a waste of time! So we have passes to Legoland in Florida and with our pass one of our benefits is we get to go to all other attractions they own in America so we were like why not come here it's something new! Upon arrival we went to the front desk where their employee started off immediately telling us we can't go in because we don't have a kid which we were unaware of and that didn't really matter to us because we go to parks and attractions all over the world it's part of what we do I said this to her and she instantly started like shaming us for wanting to come here which I don't understand why as yes there are kids attractions but there's also a 4D cinema as well as a dark ride from what I can see online and those alone would be cool to experience because why not. So it does say you have to have a kid on their website where you buy tickets which is something that we didn't check because we already have a pass benefit to come here which when we bought the passes it doesn't say anywhere that you have to have a kid to come here it just has a list of attractions we can get into! That right there needs to be explained better to the point of why are we paying for benefits that we can't use? Like I said we visit and experience attractions for all ages all over the world and it was a bummer not being able to come here just for that reason alone as us seeing what their is to do here isn't hurting anyone it actually would have been in their benefit to let us experience it as we have many friends with kids in the area as well as well as those who travel to attractions all over so now when we get asked how our experience was we will let them know not to go here and by the other Yelpers reviews I can tell that it's only a matter of time until this place closes their doors along with the rest of the business dying in the area. It's hard to find a redeeming quality about this place. I can easily list everything you'll find inside: - an admittedly impressive large recreation of Chicago with a ton of Easter eggs to be found - a really small jungle section with like three large animals built out - a virtual reality ride that costs extra - a ride/game where you shoot at targets and projector screens as you go through the ride - a helicopter kind of ride that goes around like a merry-go-round and you can go up and down - a little indoor playground - a 10-ish minute 4D movie (so 3D glasses, wind blows on you, a little water sprays on you) - a few free build areas with Lego and Duplo - a little cafe - a Lego store on your way out That reads like a lot, right? I mean, it's fine for a couple hours, but it's really not worth the price of admission. If you have a kid who is of an age that might like this, you're probably better off going to one of those indoor playground where they only charge per child and not adult. The literal only thing of interest to an adult here would be the Chicago display, older kids will probably get bored too easily, and younger kids will probably play most with the indoor playground like mine did. Don't be fooled - this is nothing like the large Legoland theme parks elsewhere. The Dave & Busters in the same strip mall has more to do than here. Heck the furniture store is bigger. Maybe if you have cheap or free tickets it's an ok way to kill time, but don't make a trip out of it. read more

My first time here, and my last time. The displays were broken - pieces all over the place. Upstairs in the build area - pieces missing so that you couldn't build things like most importantly - HEADS for the bodies in the Friends collection. We searched through every bin. Speaking of, those need to be cleaned! I would be greatly disappointed if I drove from somewhere further than I did to "experience" this. My 6 yr grandson was punched by an older boy blocking the canon in the play area? Who is watching this area? Just left to the parents who were mostly sitting on phones. I went to find an employee who did go talk to the boys and the employee was concerned about how my grandson was. The Ninja Experience? Ha! Closed or you had to wait. We were able to do only 1 of the I believe 5 stations. Looks like they took the water station away as well per my daughter who took her older son here. We went to the shop and there were quite a few bins mostly empty - see photos. We were done with the first floor in 15 minutes - he didn't care much about really looking at the exhibits. We didn't pay extra for the ride or movie thank God! Upstairs is a play area, Starbucks, birthday party area and some building areas along with a ride he wasn't interested. Overall we were done in 2 hours only because we kept telling him to go play. He did build a car and try to get it down the track but failed. No employee there to help or direct. That would have been helpful. The 2nd thing he liked was the Duplo blocks but again a lot of missing pieces. This facility took absolutely no accountability for what happened to my child and never followed up with me, even after I called. While on a field trip, my child's hair became caught in one of the slides. An entire braid was ripped from her scalp. As she was trapped with her hair stuck, other children continued coming down the slide and stepped on her before the situation was finally brought under control. The most disturbing part is that no LEGOLAND staff member came to assist my child during this incident. A child was left in pain and distress without immediate help. That level of negligence is unacceptable. What happened was traumatic, but the complete lack of concern afterward was just as unacceptable. No accountability. No follow-up. No apology. Nothing. As a parent, I am left questioning why my child was left without assistance. Maybe it was because she's Black. I don't know, but after seeing how my child was treated and the complete lack of accountability afterward, it's a question I cannot help but ask. Not Worth the Money, Even at a Discount I was really disappointed with our visit to Legoland Schaumburg. Even with a 40% discount per ticket, it felt like a waste of money. Adult and kid tickets are priced the same, and each adult must be with a child to enter -- which makes sense, but still adds up quickly. For the price, I expected a lot more. Most of the attraction is just pre-built Lego displays to look at, with very limited hands-on building opportunities. There are a few things for kids to do -- a small indoor play area, a short VR experience, a little theater, and a mini kiddie rollercoaster -- but overall, it's minimal for the cost. I can't imagine how crowded it must be on weekends, even with the timed entry system. We went during a less busy time and still didn't feel like it was worth it. Bottom line: I definitely wouldn't pay full price for this place. I spent $70 plus for two adults and two kids (5 year olds) I wish I would've bought them a nice Lego set and it would've been better for them! After an hour ish, the kids wanted to leave. read more

It was worth visiting LEGOLAND for us... but I completely understand all the reviews. Here are all the caveats. We got in on a buy-one-get-one-free deal. So instead of $56 for an adult and kid, we just paid $28 total. Secondly, my kid is 4. And lastly, I only went with him. For $28 per person, I can see how the costs run up quick especially if there is more than one adult accompanying. Add on the fact that the rides are simple and wouldn't appeal much to kids much older, I can see how you may want to just spend the cost of admission for your family on a large LEGO set to build with your kids at home instead. While there were a good amount of spaces to build together, the variety was limited to just houses and one section for building simple cars. While the two rides were interesting to my 4 year old, the 4D show was a nice experience, and the pirate play place wasn't much different from what you can find at a McDonald's, we ultimately spent a little over 2.5 hours on site before growing tired. The LEGO mini Chicago and jungle were impressive to see but were ultimately just a short stroll. I think if admission was atleast $10 less per person or there was more variety in the LEGO sets that could be built, there could be more of an appeal to visit the Discovery Center. Otherwise, if I'm spending almost $60 if not more for admission, I'd just stay home and use that money to build a LEGO set with the kids read more

My high energy Lego loving son had an absolute blast at this discovery center. Staff was pretty friendly. We stayed there for about 3 hours. He loved the 4D movies where it blows wins and sprinkles water on the audience. Some parts were geared more towards littler kids but he enjoyed most of it. We are from out of town and just visited downtown Chicago, so seeing the whole model of the city was awesome! We also bought tickets through AAA, so we got two tix for $52. It's meh. I am always looking for fun things to do with my little one and today, I finally caved and checked this place out. It is over hyped and over priced. The worst combo. First off, their main ride, the Merlin wasnt even operating, which they failed to let me know while paying. Pretty scammy IMO. Secondly, the shooting ride was so lame. The shooter wasn't working (we went twice) and it felt like they were trying to rip off the Toy Story ride in Disney but failed epically. On the upside, no one was rude and there were lots of places to sit. However, if given the choice again, I would just go to the Children's museum. Both Kohl's Childrens Museum and Dupage Children's Museum are cheaper and a better way of spending their time. Would not come back, but would still buy legos. read more

Super expensive for what you get. If brought my 5 year old and his 2 friends, keep Keep in mind if under 48 inches you can't ride the main ride without an adult. So we couldn't ride that at all. Way overpriced! We paid $170 for the entry and 3D ride for 4 people (2 adults, a 5 and 7 year old). It was very underwhelming. The mini roller coaster ride was fun but VERY short and the line was over 45 min wait. Definitely not worth the extra price. Will not be back and do not recommend. read more

Loved the mini land builds! Thought it was super cool how it could switch from day to night mode so the buildings would light up. The dragon ride was also fun--you could use laser guns to shoot at interactive targets. We also enjoyed the 3D movie with all the effects (including real rain)! However, overall, it felt run down and dated. Many things were either broken or dirty/dusty. It was a big bummer that the upstairs ride was not working, either. Also, the majority of the blocks that were meant for building with seemed like leftover parts just thrown in the bins. This is one of those places that's such a great (corporate) concept but in reality... kinda gross because it's not well maintained. There are a couple of rides you can do without getting the premium ticket, but they will either break or the seat will be so small you can't pedal. In the biggest playroom--legos all over the floor and children absolutely everywhere. Not for the faint of heart or anyone who with a walker, fall risk, etc. BUT: the kids will love it because there's such a great variety of activities. You start with a recreated Chicago skyline and jungle, then lots of free play with legos, a play structure, etc. We went with a 7 YO and two 5 YO on a basic ticket and got through pretty much everything in 4 hours. Looks super cool from the outside until you find out that the fun ends at the front door. I am 18 years old and this "family" establishment refused me due to my 6 months of being 18. My dad and I bought tickets for general admission, and was sent away immediately because there was no child with us. When we asked why we were denied the manager rudely said because it is a "family establishment." Making me feel like I was being accused of something. Why make legos for everyone if it's clearly not. Unfortunately this was the one thing I was most excited for on my visit to Chicago and I hate to say that I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here unless you're looking for disappointment and a rude "manager" to make shameful and demeaning innuendos. You get to see a LEGO replica of local Chicagoland, nice life-sized LEGO models of tigers, monkeys, alligators etc with a quiz trail, Kingdom Quest Laser Ride, where visitors experience the multiple objectives while looking for a treasure chest. LEGO 4D Cinema showing 4D films featuring popular LEGO characters was fun, a police chasing a culprit, some water shooting your way during the chase. There is a LEGO Master Builder Academy offers classes with LEGOLAND Discovery Centre's Master Model Builders DUPLO Village features a play slide, large animal models, and DUPLO bricks to build. It needs serious cleaning and attention to exhibits to fix broken and ripped cushion. And my photos are just samples of trash and dirt laying around. Just gross. I almost walked out. A train ride, once before they closed it, we did build our own LEGO ice cream trucks and the downhill race way for your race car was pretty tough considering there wasn't much in the way of wheels and axles to build with. I felt the reason for the experience was actually to get us to their store where you could buy LEGO sets for the same price as Amazon. We were expecting a lot more from LEGO. The displays on the first floor were pretty impressive, but there was a fine layer of dirt on everything. (What were supposedly white pieces appeared to be pale yellow.) It would have been so much more vibrant had they been clean and all of the lighting was functional. The second floor was less appealing. A giant, worn play structure, a carnival ride, and an overcrowded cafe. All of these with LEGOs scattered about from the unsupervised "build and race" area. It was mayhem. We didn't give the 4D theater a chance. Perhaps that would have partially redeemed the place. On the way out through the gift shop. Super picked over, but they did have some pretty hard-to-find sets on the shelf. Essentially the entire establishment is a glorified line for a mediocre gift shop. read more

We tried to take our 14 year old here today on her request. The website said we had to have a child 17 and under, so we thought we were golden. I've attached a screenshot of this policy to my review. When we got there we were refused entry and given a refund since we didn't have a child 12 or under with us. Then, two adults and a 17 year old were let in next to us. They have you buy tickets online to reserve your time although we still waited in line for a long time to make our way through. Waited in line for at least 45 minutes to get on the dragon ride then the ride had to be reset and was down for 20 minutes! Finally got that done then went to the cafe. It was ok, not many options for food but lots of Starbucks coffee. Went to the movie next and it was 4D. The movie stopped abruptly at and we all still sat in the dark. No explanation so we all just got up and left making our way out with our phone flashlights. Went to the build room and play area next where the last ride is featured. Also, waited in a long line for 30-40 minutes. Honestly way too many people inside and no places really for parents to unwind while their kids are playing. Overpriced for what you receive.
