Honestly, I've heard so many mixed reviews for this place, was very hesitant in trying it. They're running a $9 special for Bun Bo Hue for the month of February. This is not a bad deal, bc normally a bow like this is like $16-$18 in Katy/Cypress area. I was down by Bellaire so stopped in for a quick lunch. The bowl of BBH came out piping hot and looks delicious! But it just wasn't what I liked in BBH. The broth didn't have a lot of lemongrass flavor but on the sweeter side. Had to use a lot of shrimp paste and adjust it to my liking.. somewhat. The meat portions was okay. It's enough for me. But I was very disappointed in the veggies.. it was mainly just green leaf lettuce. Wish there was more herbs to it. Overall, it isn't a bad bowl of Bun Bo Hue, just not my preference. But it is a good deal so worth a try. Service was great though. The lady was very nice and accommodating. It is a lounge like environment so expect a karaoke bar. I drive by here so many times and I can see that they have been open for a few years now. So I convince my friend to take me to go try here. I guess I am not the target audience for this restaurant as they have a big bar and Karaoke setup, but I was here for the food and I had one of the worst banh xeo (savory Vietnamese pancake) because it taste like it was cooked in old oil and barely any meat inside. The only thing we had that was good was the bo luc lac (Vietnamese shaking beef). The restroom was not truly handicap friendly, the bathroom stall does not have room for a wheelchair to enter. Once again, airline Rewards program brought me to Lem's Kitchen on a quiet Sunday night. The disco lights and music were blaring. I thought I went to a wrong restaurant. I never knew this was a restaurant with unique Vietnamese food here. From the exterior window decals, it looks like a party room. I was greeted by a young lady wearing party dress. I'm okay with that as long as they serve food. She pointed at the booth seat by the wall where I could see the entire restaurant and the dance floor. Very festive here, except when I tried to take a look at the menu. I ended up taking pictures of all items in order read the menu. I wanted something soupy. She introduced bun bo cay. Then I spotted bun bo hue. Very quickly I realized how the menu was organized. I ordered mi bo cay as egg noodles vs rice noodles. I like any noodles. But the spicy beef caught my attention. I couldn't agree more with Caroline N's review about the tenderness of beef chunks. The spiciness is pretty mild but it made me cry. The savory is intense. I didn't need any other condiments at all. My photo didn't come out clear because of the disco lights. Oh well. Try again next time. There was another table of 4 sitting by the singing booth, I think. I received my dish pretty quick. It's cozy to be a nightclub and lounge. I highly recommend Lem's Kitchen as my choice of entertainment and dining stop on the west of beltway. read more

This is my 1st time at this restaurant and omg the most horrible experience of worse service ever. The restaurant is quite huge but only 1 server and so many guests. Why did they schedule 1 server on the weekend??? I saw at least 10 guests left the restaurant bcoz they lost patience on the service. Some waiting at Keats 10min at the door and no one guide them to a table some other guests already sat down but didn't have anyone came to assist them. If we didn't order the food , we probably stood up and left too. We waited a good 30min but food came partially . Some of us finishing eating and the last person on our table hadn't been served. Then we got served we ask for condiments which supposed to come with the meal such as basil, been sprout and other herbs to eat with the food and was told they ran out of it, but saw the server serve another table the same items to another table. Overall it's the most horrible experience I ever had at a restaurant. Food was mediocre. Not even good. Definitely not a come Back for me. read more

I've been wanting to try out this place after seeing the owner posting Facebook live videos of herself cooking and then eating the foods. I was very curious about their specialty Bun Bo Cay. I have to say, omg guys this may be my new favorite broth noodles! Just like the name suggests, it is literally bun noodles, with variety of beef cuts, and it's spicy (perfect amount not too much). The closest thing I can compare to is Bun Bo Hue, but more beef flavored and spicier? The beef cuts in the Bun Bo Cay is tender and I love that there are some pieces of tendon and fatty brisket too. It's super flavorful and good amount of spice to it so I don't have to really add on more seasonings. I literally was craving it so much today I had to make the drive to go get it. I also tried their bun mam nem and it's pretty good. Not many restaurants offer these items on the menu. Their bun dau mam tom is good but I've had better cha, and their pork belly is a little too fatty...But I can't wait to come back and try more. If you enjoy quality food, do not come here!!! We came because we saw an advertisement for crawfish but will not come again. The service was extremely slow, we did not get half of what we ordered after an hour of waiting. The crawfish was smothered with MSG, it gave us headaches afterward. Very overpriced and sketchy people. Seems like they cater towards a party crowd, club music playing and holes in the walls. Worst experience ever, come by the day after Christmas with my family. The place was empty and only 1 server. The server walked by and dropped the note pad on the table and told us to write down what we wanted to order. She doesn't let's us explain what we wrote and walked away. End up missing an order, and she gets mad at us. What type of service is this? They added 20% for the gratitude but not giving us any receipt and just said the total. When we asked for the receipt, they said we can go take pictures because the system broke down and can't print. Mi qua: noodles doesn't taste freshly made, doesn't have that authentic made Bo ne: not the best, one of my friend was craving but we knew it wasn't gonna measure up to bo ne houston. The pate and butter for the banh mi was just for decoration but not meant to eat. (Smallest of portion, butter was straight out of the fridge, not spreadable). I came with my husband and parents and was very disappointed the 2nd time I had their meal here, from the front staff to the waitress it was not a pleasant experience. Washed my had and their sink was clogged with good particle in floating in the water. We came back for the nem nuong platter my husband and I shared since last time we couldn't finish it. Want to try authentic Vietnamese food, but not adventurous enough for that hole-in-the-wall place? Lem's Kitchen falls perfectly in the middle. Don't be fooled by the dead plaza, the inside is actually very modernized and clean. More importantly, the food gives off a home-cooked meal kinda vibe. You definitely want to start off with the Banh Xeo, which is a crispy egg crepe filled with bean sprouts, shrimp, and pork belly. It's huge so you want to be sharing it with others. It doesn't actually have much taste so you need use the fish sauce dip. Lem's cooks it to a perfect crispiness and doesn't skimp on the fillings or the veggies that come on the side. My favorite will probably be the Com Ga Nuong, a chicken thigh + leg that is marinated then deep fried without batter. Perfect combo of crispy skin, juicy meat, and soy sauce flavors. The Bo Luc Lac, or Shaking Beef, isn't too heavily seasoned like other Americanized places, and cooked to a perfect medium rare at my request. The Mi Bo Kho, a beef stew with egg noodles, is a very hearty dish with excellent rich flavors. Everything tasted like it was cooked fresh with attention to detail and served in huge portions. The food is actually 2 starts but I'm adding an extra star for the service we got. We had the bun dau mam tom, bun rieu, and bun bo cay. The bun rieu was bland and doesn't have all the typical toppings like crab or snails. The broth is very strong in tomato taste. The tofu is not soaked in with the broth, looks like they just threw some in there last minute. The bun bo cay came out with lots of oil on top. My friend had to scoop them all out. My bun dau was the best option of the table, though it is a bit pricy ($13.50) for a portion. It has pork ears which I didn't have before. The disappointing part is the tofu which was very thick and soft. The shrimp paste sauce was overly sweetened. I like supporting small businesses but unfortunately I don't think this shop did a good job to earn my business a second time. read more
