As part of a major re-landscaping I decided I wanted to paint the house, which then turned into a stucco repair which then turned into a stucco re-do. Cliff Davenport is the kind of contractor we all hope to meet: honest, knows his stuff, fair prices and good follow through. It turns out because of the age of my house, sandblasting would have been prohibitively expensive. Cliff recommended an acrylic stucco which could be custom blended to have the exact paint color I had chosen for the house. Apparently many contractors will sandblast the house and hope the city doesn't find out (lead paint issues). I appreciated Cliff's business ethics and that he does things the right way. The stucco job had to be coordinated with my landscape contractor and the two worked together seamlessly. James, the Lemon Grove foreman, was a pleasure to work with...James' crew even came back after the landscape job was over to do touch up of the areas that were dinged about by the construction. The house looks amazing and I have received numerous compliments from neighbors on the job, the color and the professionalism of the crew. They handled my neighbors with kid gloves. Lemon Grove also offered a 12 months interest free plan which allowed me to pay for the job out of my cash flow rather than committing my savings to the job. It was totally painless! Holy smokes!!! These guys are good. I'm finally on a roll in hiring contractors!!!! Thank you Lord! I went through a period of hiring the worse contractors out there. I seriously thought I had a sign on my forehead that said "Screw me". Lemon Grove Stucco is one of 4 bids I received. Their price was as low as one company and lower than the rest of the companies (way lower). Cliff the owner offered up the estimate to me. He's been around the business for quite a while. Cliff is not a hard sell guy, something I really do appreciate. Anyway, never any negatives from Cliff when I asked for certain tweaks to be done to my house. Here's something... The guy will actually call you back in a timely manner. It makes me crazy when the contractors don't call me back within a reasonable time frame. I liked Cliff and I liked his price. Oh, before I forget..... ONE YEAR SAME AS CASH!!!!!!!!!!! That makes things sooo much easier to afford to get the repairs done. So, the guys show up in force the first day, led by James. What a pleasant group of men. I never once felt uncomfortable leaving my home while the guys were working. They are all very nice and very respectful. Here's another thing that Lemon Grove Stucco offers that a lot of the other guys don't----sandblasting. Most companies only offer water blasting. They say that water blasting is as good as sandblasting. I'm not totally sold on that. I think the main reason they don't offer sandblasting is because a permit (license) is required and cost money and is more work to do and way more clean up. The guys taped off all windows, doors etc and then made a tunnel of tarps to work in and to keep sand from blowing in your neighbor's yard and everywhere else. They even taped plastic over my decorative rock. When they were done for the day, all the covered areas were uncovered and the yard cleaned up. **NOTE*** this is sandblasting people. They can't get all of the sand swept up from every nook and cranny. Ever go to the beach or desert and get all the sand out of your vehicle the first time you cleaned it? I doubt it. So if you have your home sandblasted, don't go ragging about the cleanup. After the sandblasting the guys had to go around and grind out by hand all the latex based (read rubber sh**) that was used to improperly repair the cracks from the previous moron I hired. The next day was stucco day. They came out in force again. They taped everything off again and got busy.The guys worked hard until after dark. The texture of the stucco was beautiful. Not a typical track home stucco job, that's for sure. When Cliff gave me his estimate, he gave me his home address, and told me to go look at his house. He said that he would make my house look as good as his home. Guess what- my home looks fantastic. I had a lot of patch work done on my house prior to Lemon Grove Stucco starting, ie window removed and filled in, new windows installed and a door installed. When the stucco was applied to the repaired areas the color gets sucked out of the new stucco and you could still see where repairs were done previously, by the splotches in the color. No problem. Cliff was out the next day inspecting his men's work. He did a complete walk around of my home. He noted some small things that he wanted his men to take care of, ie better cleanup of some areas and the splotchiness of some of the color. He sent a man out that afternoon to do final clean up. Keep in mind that these guys finished in the dark and couldn't see too well at finish time Next, Cliff arranged to have the guys come out and "fog coat" over the splotchy areas. Well, to my surprise James and Jacob taped off the house for a third time and pretty much fog coated the whole house, making sure that the whole house was an even color. The house is just beautiful. Neighbors are always commenting about what a good job Lemon Grove Stucco did on my house. I tried to write this review with detail, hoping to help others in deciding on which company they should use for stucco work. Lemon Grove Stucco did a stupendous job for me and I have every reason to believe that you too, will get a stucco job on your home that you would be proud of. read more

We obtained three bids to stucco our rental in El Cajon (Nurse Stucco & Bolan Stucco). All three bids were about the same. We decided to go with Lemon Grove Stucco because the sales presentation and recommendation from our painting contractor. The job was done to our satisfaction but there were bumps along the way. Cliff neglected to tell us or our renter to remove items from the walls that might fall as they were prepping the house. On the first day a hand made wood item fell to the ground and was broken. Cliff offered to pay for it but it something our renter had gotten while on vacation in another state and the value was unknown. On the second day Cliff did not show up at the work site. He said that he was ill and had been "locked out" of his phone and was unable to make or recieve calls. On the same day a water pipe was broken as soil was being moved from around the foundation. The job foreman, James, told our renter "don't worry about it. We broke it so we'll fix it". The next time we saw Cliff we were presented with a $275.00 bill to repair the pipe. Cliff said that the pipe was old and ready to break so he could not be held responsible for it. We offered a 50-50 compromise but he refused it and we paid the bill. The day after the job was completed our renter noticed that the sprinkler control box was full of stucco and her sprinklers wouldn't work. Cliff went out the next day and removed the stucco from the box, pulling out some wires. He again said that the system was old, which we acknowledged, but it was working perfectly prior to stucco getting into the mechanism and we felt he should repair it. The system was repaired after almost two weeks. Although the quality of Cliff's work appears to be very good, the issues along the way were frustrating. We realize there are problems with every job but it would have been a lot less frustrating if Cliff had returned our phone calls and/or kept us informed. read more

This is an important and fair update of my previous review for Lemon Grove Stucco. Cliff at LG Stucco called me and explained why there had been such a delay in responding to my inquiries. He personally took charge at that point and twice came to our house in Julian to inspect the problem areas and then attended to them with a worker who was also sincerely interested in correcting the problem areas. They brought and applied exact-match stucco patches and offered advice on what can be done to prevent any further problems. Lemon Grove Stucco originally did stucco work on our house in La Mesa in the early 2000's .Over the years due to earth movement, there was a problem of stucco at the bottom edge of the house cracking where it met the concrete patios. . Cliff has sent his crew out on 2 occasions and done a wonderful spot repair. The technicians will walk around the house and repair anything that needs attention even if it had not been noted before. We also like the style of texture they use. Cliff and his company, Lemon Grove Stucco did a great job with our house. Our home had multiple types of stucco from various former jobs; Cliff and his team created a uniform sand finish coat for our home, added framing to our windows, and replaced the front boards of our home with stucco. The team also put stucco under our eaves in many places in our home. Cliff and his team coordinated well with our other contractors, as our major project was the renovation of our back yard. Among Cliff's many talents, he is very good at scheduling, and timing. He was always on schedule or early, and his team was equally neat and organized. one challenge of two story homes I think is getting a uniform color where the scaffolding steps are. Cliff and his team came back out to improve the blending here after the first project. I would suggest to future project planners, if you go with a lighter color I think that this issue is less problematic. Let me begin by saying Thank you to Cliff Davenport, Owner, of Lemon Grove Stucco from both my daughter and me. Cliff, you are a kind man with integrity, you are knowledgeable in your trade, you take great pride in your work, and in your company. I appreciate everything that you did for us for the past two years, especially taking time out of your busy schedule to be my expert witness in my Arbitration Hearing. I first met Cliff in 2014 when he gave me an estimate for color coat/stucco on my home, he explained the process, he gave me references, and he answered all of my questions. I was quite impressed with him and how knowledgeable he was; he was my first choice for stucco work but, unfortunately my funds were limited and I went through a program that suggested I go with the general contractor on their list that was repairing my home. HUGE MISTAKE! Even though Lemon Grove Stucco did not do the initial stucco work, I called Cliff again in 2015 explaining my situation and I asked him if he would come out to look at the house, and give me an estimate to redo the previous contractor's substandard stucco work. Cliff came out within a day or two, he looked at the stucco, he pointed out different areas and explained why the work was not to trade standards, and gave me an estimate. If you are reading this post, please remember, your home is the most expensive item you own, it is an investment unfortunately, I learned the hard way not to cut corners/costs. It is better to pay a little more for the work from a well-known and respected company like Lemon Grove Stucco so the job gets done right the first time. The original contractor was my worst night-mare, he completely ruined the exterior of my home it was a two year battle, and I filed a complaint with the CSLB then, we ended up going to their Arbitration. In 2016, I again, called upon Cliff and asked him if he would be my expert witness in my Arbitration Hearing without any hesitation he said yes and I won my case against the other general contractor. I have learned that re-stucco on the exterior of a house is better than a new paint. I called for a free estimate and Cliff Davenport came, on time. After a quick evaluation of what needs to be done, he recommended that we don't need a stucco job done, instead he recommended minor maintenance on the surrounding bottom areas of the house and did explain to us as to why deterioration is occurring. We chose Tempest for the color along with a "Lace" texturing, the combination of these really updated the look of the house. We originally had Lemon Grove Stucco sandblast and re-stucco our home in October of 2000. This was after getting several bids. The work was excellent from our first meeting with Cliff to the crew who came out and did the job. When we added a new electric panel box in 2014 and needed to do a stucco repair job we of course called Cliff and had Lemon Grove stucco patch the area.. Recently, a large chunk of concrete from an old planter which was originally attached to our home outside of the living room picture window came loose, fell off and the remaining area needed repair. Once again, Lemon Grove Stucco came out. The bid Cliff offered was less than I expected and not only did the workers remove the old concrete, and re-stucco the area where it fell off but touched up several areas around the perimeter of the house. He noted we had new concrete in the back yard and to give it a finished look applied a stucco line to the bottom where the patio meets the house. It's been 17 years and the exterior of our house looks great! The stucco technique this company uses has a far better appearance than so many of it's competitors. I feel so lucky that I found this company to do a new stucco job on my home. It is 3 stories tall in places, and surrounded by a real jungle of plants. Not only did I get a beautiful stucco job, my plants survived! I got a great price -- they beat out 3 other companies, but they also did extras for me at no charge. There were 12 workers on the job and they were done when they said they would be, instead of the job dragging on and on like the horror stories I have heard. We bought a 1920's spanish style stucco house that had a bad re-stucco job sometime years ago. It desperately needed to be re-stuccoed. We ended up using Lemon Grove and were very happy with our decision. Here's a few reasons we gave Lemon Grove a 5 star review: - We got multiple bids and Lemon Grove's pricing was competitive. Cliff was super thorough and informative when he came by to bid the job and we could tell he was honest. - Some of the other contractors said they would power wash instead of sandblasting. But, we agreed with Cliff and decided sandblasting was the way to go. - Lemon Grove has re-stuccoed a bunch of houses in our neighborhood so they provided a list of houses with colors, textures, year completed, etc. This was very helpful because we could drive around and look at real examples of colors and textures before making our final selection. - They were organized and responsive. I spoke with Cliff on the phone several times before they did the work so we could coordinate some column framing and other wood repair items that I was completing before stucco. If he wasn't available, he'd always call back the same day and take time to go through the details. - We had some concerns from our neighbor regarding noise and access. I was at work and couldn't be there to deal with it so Cliff handled it in a professional manner by calling and talking to them in person to resolve any issues. - Their quality is great. We were very pleased with the quality of the stucco that Lemon Grove Stucco applied to our home. It was a long process from powerblasting all the old paint from the outside walls, to our priming and painting the trim and then the final coat of stucco. There was a few misunderstandings. We sanded and wiped down the trim and primed it, which we were told would be ok, and which was quite a job for 2 60+ old gals. When LG guys came out to blast we had to rewipe and prime a lot of the trim again. A bit frustrating. We were initially told that we could have a couple of extra days to put on a final coat on the trim. But then they said no, not possible. Then it rained. So we got our day anyway. A wonderful friend came out and used an airless to put on a final coat on the trim. The guys had to come out a second time to fix a few problem areas, lite spots here and there and heavy areas applied around some windows. Overall, they were very good and most all of the Lemon Grove Stucco people were friendly and helpful. We've had many compliments on how new our home looks. Very reasonable price for all the work done and manpower used. read more

BEAUTIFULLY DONE STUCCO WORK We contacted Lemon Grove Stucco because we were impressed with a stucco job that they did on a neighbor's house. We have a Tudor cottage style house built in the 1930's and wanted to ensure that the new stucco would maintain the original character and style of the house. We discussed this with Cliff, the owner of Lemon Grove Stucco on his initial visit to the house. Cliff had very good suggestions on what type and texture of stucco would work best for our house and more importantly what would not work. We were quite happy with what he showed us and felt re-assured that he instinctively knew what would be appropriate for our style of house. Cliff also helped us out with advice and direction on a restoratation project that we were working on. This project involved replacing a sliding glass door, which was not original to the house, with a door and window that matched the original doors and windows. He gave us advice on how to frame out the new door and window openings so that his crew would be able to match the existing stucco bull nose detail surrounding these openings. We were thrilled with how this turned out. The bull nose detail around the openings looks exactly like the original ones. We ran into one major setback when it was discovered that our existing stucco contained lead. This meant that the old stucco could not be sand-blasted off due to new environmental regulations. Cliff proposed using acrylic stucco that, while more expensive than regular stucco, can be applied over the existing stucco without sandblasting. We were very concerned that the texture and appearance of the synthetic stucco would compromise the architectural integrity of the house. Cliff came out on numerous occasions to show us samples of the acrylic product. He applied different types of the acrylic stucco with diffent techniques until we were satisfied with the appearance. In the end we were thrilled with the job done by Lemon Grove Stucco. The job was executed with attention to detail and great skill. The color and texture turned out beautifully. James (the lead foreman) and his crew of workers were excellent craftsmen and very nice guys as well. read more

We have a house that we did two large remodels on in 1992 and 1993. We had put bars on the windows due to burglaries in the area at the time. When the original remodel was completed rain gutters were not installed. As a result rust stains ran down the house and even stained the concrete. We decided to replace our windows with break resistant ones that are more energy efficient. 22 years has provided some progress in quality. We contracted with Dave Hancock at Raneri and Long to replace all 22 windows, the back patio door and patch some roofing issues. Replacing the windows would mean removing the bars. Removing the bars meant re-stuccoing the house. They referred us to Lemon Grove Stucco. We had already gotten a few bids from other contractors to do the stucco but we were so impressed with Raneri and Long that we decided to give Cliff Davenport at Lemon Grove Stucco a call. We are really glad we did. Cliff worked very closely with Dave on timing of the job to impact us the least - which reduced our stress. They did a great job redoing the entire exterior of the house and even blanked out two bathroom windows that were no longer needed. The crew that was here was polite, considerate and great to work with. James, the foreman, always kept us informed as to what was going on, was very professional. We have done two major remodels to our house and have worked with many different construction crews and this one was exceptional. They made sure that the house was clean every day when they quit work. The wall patch required a second application to blend the colors properly but that was handled with minimal impact to us - and even looks good. Every walkway was swept; nothing was left out of place. In fact, I know our yard was cleaner when they left than when they arrived. Lemon Grove Stucco was not the most expensive bid we received but they were not the cheapest either. But the following the old saying you get what you pay for is still true. With the quality of the work and the attention to detail we feel we got a great deal.
