We came here as this is a great activity for the kids (and adults) whether the weather is good or bad. We were able to make a reservation just the day before online, but this availability may vary during more peak seasons. We were there during the shoulder season. The kids class (Shard Shop Original Art Class) is really reasonably priced and they had a blast creating their own piece of art! Strange, but their only other location is in New Orleans. We showed up on time for our appointment and did not feel rushed. There was one party leaving and another party was there with us, so my kids had their own table full of supplies. They have sample you can base your art off of, or you can freestyle it. Everything was included! Note that it takes a little over 24 hours for your art to cure so don't plan this the day before or the day you are leaving the area. They can always mail it to you, but there is a cost associated and it's more fun to pick it up yourself. read more

This was such a creative and unique place! My sister-in-law took me and I had such a fun time making a one-of-kind framed piece of art. There are so many interesting items and thousands of different colored pieces of glass shards that you can choose from in "The Shard Bar." You place them on a framed board to create any design that you'd like. They have many ideas already outlined on boards if you don't know what you'd like to make. What I found so interesting is that you don't usually glue anything down, you just place the pieces on the board. You have an hour (which goes by in a blink of an eye). When you are done, you leave the art piece there for them to pour a clear resin within the frame. In a day or two, it is dry and solidified and you can pick up your work of art! As you can see in the photo, each person's finished art is so very different. Many are images of things like a seahorse, ocean wave, or palm tree. Others had more meaning like a unique Christian cross or Hindu hashma hand. And then there was mine: an abstract piece that I'm sure looks like a pile of junk to most non-artists (and maybe some artists, haha). But it represents me, each piece in it has a purpose or meaning, and I loved being able to do art again as I did in college before I became a graphic designer. If or when I go again, I would like to make a conservative charcuterie board. I think that would be just as fun and creative to do...and useful, haha. After following The Shard Shop for years on Social Media, I finally planned a trip up there from Clearwater, and it was a dream come true! My daughter and I booked our spots for the class, and tried to figure out ahead of time what design of glass art that we each wanted to create since the ideas are endless depending on your imagination. When we arrived we were able to start picking out all the materials we would need to create our masterpieces, since we already knew what designs we wanted to create. The Shard Shop is such a cute, happy, colorful environment full of artistic inspiration. I couldn't believe how many different items there were to choose from to add to your art. Some things to choose from were Goggly eyes, pearls, beads, a variety of shells, little toys, bottle caps, and trinkets in addition to all kinds of glass and sand. The staff were so friendly and helpful with teaching how to use the glass cutters and giving tips if asked. It is so much fun creating, but the time flies by. My daughter made a beautiful abstract piece, and I made a Margarita on the beach. We were so excited to pick up our finished pieces the next day. We can't wait to come back to The Shard Shop to create again! read more

Just a word of advise, an hour goes by amazingly fast, so either have a design in mind ahead of time or choose a design quickly while there so that you leave plenty of time to create. The Shard Shop is a novel idea and potentially fun way to spend a couple of hours. Unfortunately for us, the Shard Shop lady wasn't welcoming and in fact, seemed inflexible and unfriendly. She seemed to prefer to bark orders at us or reprimand us for minor things. (We were four 50 something ladies, not teenagers.) Maybe she was having a bad day. Rude staff...Families please read - Beware..staff and owner not good with children and families. My family and I had a very uncomfortable experience. We arrived for a class that we booked the day before with a kind female employee who explained to us in great detail how things work. We booked two boards that the employee said we could help our children create. She explained we'd stand around them and might not have a seat if the class was full, but would be able to create art with our children. We were thrilled to make memories and support a local business. Upon arrival, we were greeted with rudeness and disgust at our lack of understanding and confusion - apparently each person must purchase a board (we were not told that fact but would have been happy to do so had the owner not escalated the situation to an agonizingly uncomfortable degree). We did not understand what the class routine was because we were TOLD THE WRONG INFORMATION, but the young girl at the counter was extremely rude and disrespectful when we asked questions. We were being blamed. I asked my children to walk away so they did not hear the disrespect. We asked to speak to the manager and the girl walked away, whispered something in an older woman's ear, and this woman stormed over with anger, irritation, and annoyance - not a shred of kindness, understanding, or eagerness to help. We were baffled and confused. We immediately felt attacked, as if we were criminals or in trouble. ?? She proceeded to imply that we were "LYING", that we "CHEATED THEY SYSTEM" and she told us we "tried to come in here and buy only 2 boards for 6 people!", and spoke in a condescending tone to tell us multiple times "this has never happened before" and "we have 5 star reviews on every platform" - bragging and blaming us. Yikes... She threw her 'store policies' around like were were here to steal from her, yet never helped us navigate how to make it right so we all could participate. Had I known my confusion would have been met with such a sharp, ungracious, and offensive response from the store owner, I would have never entertained the idea of family fun at this location. I was caught off guard and felt embarrassed and immediately attacked... please note - this is not a place for families. Toxic chemicals in a small room, sharp overpriced glass (it is NOT that expensive) and customer service that no one should pay money for. I cannot stress this enough... this owner is not prepared to deal with customer questions with kindness and grace... neither are the employees.. and she should most certainly NOT be working children or families who come in to make memories. Take the owners advice - before kicking us out (yes, we were asked to leave - confused and baffled but appreciative that she gave us our money back) she shared we should go to Rock Paper Scissors - across the street. Such fun, welcoming environment, safe experience. Take her advice... spend your family time elsewhere! Side note - I am sure she will take the time now to respond to this review with kindness and respect, but please know the negative reviews tell the stories of what could happen if you find yourself in a position to be asking for kindness and respect. We came across this shop when we had lunch in the area and it seemed like such a neat opportunity so I brought my daughter and her friend back later that afternoon to make a custom art piece out of glass. This was so fun to do with my 6 year old daughter! They had lots of stencils to choose from or you could do your own design and the instructors were very helpful to both of us! There were so many beautiful colors of glass to choose from and you can cut your own from larger pieces or use the tiny glass in containers on the tables! They provide safety glasses and gloves. It's a good idea to book your class a few days in advance! You have to come back to pick up the art usually 1-2 days after or they can ship it home! Super unique and cool activity to do! I never received my refund and when I called to request it again, I was treated like a criminal and was told they had no record of whether or not I attended the class. After drooling over Mary Hong's original glass art pieces in her art gallery on the Emerald Coast of Florida and buying a piece, the manager mentioned "The Shard Shop"' next door offered classes to teach people how to create glass art on canvas. So I immediately signed my daughter and I up for the next available class. They had a wide variety of colored glass, sea shells, and fake pearls, as well as pre-painted canvases to choose from in case you didn't want a white canvas. They provided all the tools necessary, including safety glasses and gloves too. They gave very good instructions on how to safely cut the glass and sand the sharp edges down. They even provide a cute little piece of flat glass for us to put our signatures on. After we completed our pieces, they carefully brought them to the back so they could pour Art Resin over them that evening. Our glass art pieces were ready to pick up the next day. It was a fun, well taught, and well supplied art class. My daughter and I enjoyed it very much. They also sell kits, tools, glass, and other objects you can purchase to create glass art outside the class. read more

This is such a fun experience. I did this with a family group. We all really enjoyed it. It's perfect for all artistic levels.

Such a fun concept. They give you a wooden tray and you can either create your own design or use one of their stencils to creat your glass art. They have tons of precut crushed glass as well as larger pieces of glass you can cut yourself for your project. My 12 and 14 yo daughters and I had lots of fun creating our masterpieces. The staff was very friendly and offered suggestions to help us. It takes a day to have them pour the resin to finish your project, so plan accordingly. A bit pricey at $100 a pop, but was fun to do while the weather was chilly. read more

This was our 2nd year to come to the shard shop and our 3rd and 4th time there. We also went 2 times last year. This is something my preteen daughter and I enjoy and we are always so excited to take our pieces back home to display! I'm not great at names but really wanted to mention Vera (I believe her name was) who helped me when my magnolia (8-4-22). She was so incredibly sweet and helpful when I got stuck with my leaves. :) There was another girl with curly hair who I don't remember catching her name who broke up some places for it as well who was wonderful! There was such a sweet young lady (again awful with names) but she was not only with us last year, but this year as well!! She has the sweetest smile and is so kind. She had purple in her hair last year and a blue color this year. I'd love to know her name. She was so kind and patient and made my daughters day, raving over her flamingo she made. :) She also talked to us about my daughters disability. (Rare condition in one of her legs that causes her to limp/hop.) It made my daughter feel so good to have someone ask so kindly and let her explain her condition. This was on 8-6-22 around 11:30am. My friends and I had a terrific experience at the Shard Shop this spring creating our own glass artwork. You pick from a few different canvas shapes with different backgrounds ready to go. They have a huge variety of templates you can use, or go rogue and create your own. The studio has a million different glass shard colors, sizes, shapes and up-cycled materials to use to create your art. We diligently worked on our pieces for 2 hours! The employees would come around and make suggestions from time to time, which were really helpful! Once finished the staff takes them and puts a coating over to keep it all in place and make it shiny. 2 days later our masterpieces were ready to pick up! Everything made it home in one piece. I made two art glass pieces three years ago. The resin turned yellow and I had to spend more money to have them "refreshed". I received the pieces and one of the piece was ruined. Additional glass was piled on it, no longer fits in the frame I've had it in, it is too heavy to hang due to the additional weight and looks completely different. When I called them I was told they all yellow- so be prepared for a glass piece that looks bad within three years. After the manager talked with the owner they offered a half price class to remake the piece. I've already spent at least $200 and was never told of the normal yellowing. I don't want to invest more in the shop and was disappointed they didn't offer the free class to replace the ruined piece. Just know if you make a piece it won't be worth hanging after it turns yellow. They didn't tell me it was normal for it to turn at all. Don't recommend this business at all. Keep in mind if you spend thousands on a piece created by the owner it will turn yellow also. The manager told me that on the phone. What a terrible investment. read more
