I have been dying to eat at Lempira. I had stopped in there one night to pick up take out for a friend and when I saw the severs going by with their plates I almost passed out. I haven't stopped thinking about eating there since. This was a couple weeks ago. I finally got some time to go. I got there late afternoon, around 4:00, not the busiest time in the restaurant business so I got seated right away. I was so excited to be here I couldn't wait to see the menu. And it was amazing. lempira serves Mexican, Salvadoran and Honduran dishes. I love ethnic, cultural food and any time I get a chance to eat authentic cultural cuisine I am in heaven. My waitress came to attend and I rather exuberantly attempted to convey my unbridled excitement at what I expected to be an experience I would not soon forget. She, however looked at me a bit quizzically and said uno momento. While she was gone, I gleefully pressed my nose into the enormous menu that was broken down into the three cultural cuisines they serve. She was gone a good bit. When she came back she was a little stressed out as she tried to explain to me that there was no one there that spoke English. Now I got even more excited. My head was screaming Jackpot!!! This is what authenticity is all about!!!! Fortunately the menu was in both English and Spanish. Now the drink menu.....not so much. So I picked a drink called Jarrito using the point to the pretty picture method. She completely understood. Jarrito as google reported to me is a Mexican Soda. This drink had Tequila in it, so I am assuming it was a Mexican Soda with Tequila. It was good. For my dinner I had the Parillada Mexicana. Which I just found out means Mexican Barbecue. It was amazing. It was a tender and delicious grilled steak (flat iron), Devil Shrimp, Chicken Quesadilla, and a salad. All extremely generous portions. I cant eat any south of the border food without including Tostones, so of course I ordered a side of them. It was a very large portion as well, but I can assure there was no lamenting over the overabundance of food. My only concern was not eating the leftovers in the car on the way home. I really wanted to relive this experience tomorrow. Everyone should eat here! It is some of the best food I have had, made in a humble atmosphere by people that do what they know and that is to prepare and serve the food they know..... and I cant think of a better thing!!!

Soooo I will say this place has amazing food , it's absolutely delicious however the place was NASTY the booth was dirty the floor was dirty the bathrooms was horrible. Not to mention the FLYS !!!! The staff doesn't speak English when you really need them to ( trying to bring attention to the dirty) We got our food and left it was just too dirty . We did go in a Sat night not sure if that makes a difference but it still wasn't clean

Food was delicious and authentic. The place was packed for lunch . I got a sope with carne asada on top , it was so good ! I can't stop thinking about it . I'm ready to go back . The staff was nice and the prices were reasonable . If you go be patient they were short staff .

This place might be challenging to really enjoy if you don't speak a little bit of Spanish. While the menu is in English and Spanish, I did a lot of translating between the waitress and my gringo boyfriend. ;) Food here is fairly authentic and so, so cheap. It's hard to believe the amount of food you get for the price. Papusas & tamales for $2, huaraches for $4, tacos for $6... Incredible! Quality is pretty inconsistent -- some dishes are great and others below average. The same dish might even be great on one visit and not good the next. Overall, worth a visit though, especially if you catch them on a good day! So, grab yourself a Spanish speaking friend and head to Lempira! I prefer weekend lunch when the place is full.

This place was awesome as soon as i walked in, i was greeted. I chose a booth and a quiet spot with no one around. In the corner My server was on point. Food was so delicious great flavor and taste...Trust i will be back in time. Food came back fast and it is really not that expensive..

Definitely our new favorite restaurant!! I'm not sure if any of the servers speak English, but the menu is extensive with pictures and descriptions in Spanish and English so worst case scenario you could just point at what you want! I speak Spanish so it was fine. Everything we had was delicious. Mexican coke, pork and cheese pupusas, enchiladas, flautas, a baleada...it was to die for. And reasonably priced too! Service was fast and friendly! Can't wait to come back!!

The restaurant has both takeout and dine in options. There is plenty of seating both in the front and rear of the restaurant. They have all your typical Salvadorean staples like the famous Pupusas as well as yuca con chicharrón. The typical breakfast dishes are also great. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes. However I suggest you dine in and have some fresh made pupusas revueltas. They are basically tortillas stuffed with Mozzarella cheese and grounded pork. You can also get them with just cheese or just pork. For a cold drink try the Horchata, it's made from a grounded down seed. For a hot drink try the Atol de Elote, made from corn.....deliciously smooth and velvety. The bakery has typical cookies and sweet breads, they are all on display for you to pick and choose. The store has candies, chips, medicine, arts and crafts & shirts all imported from El Salvador. If your missing home this place will take you back. If you want the Salvadorean experience than you have come to the right place! The staff is friendly and efficient, place is casual and laid back. Food is cooked fresh so you may wait a little, be patient. If in Charlotte stop by and get a little taste of my country you most definitely will not be disappointed!
