On Friday my husband picked up some chile rellenos to go, they were so good, stuffed with plenty of cheese the order comes with 2 chiles along with rice beans and handmade tortillas. Finally, my husband and I had a chance to dine in on Sunday. We got there around 10:30 am. The parking lot was packed but found parking on the side street. Once inside, we waited less than 5 minutes, someone got up and we sat down. The waitress came over right away to take our order. My husband ordered the costillitas en chile rojo with rice and beans. It was so good. That is one of the popular dishes. I decided to get the Menudo, it was so Delicious, it even had some pasta meat and some hominy. This included homemade corn tortillas. It is so nice to see all the hard working ladies in the kitchen, especially the ones making the tortillas, now that is a special gift to manually make them! We really enjoyed the food, next time I will order the tortillas to go ahead of time, since it takes awhile for them to prepare. Lenchita's has been around for so many years. I remember coming here as a little girl, every Sunday with my Tios' & cousins. & now i get to bring my children to enjoy these authentic dishes. Today we ordered some quesadillas de asada, Costillias, Molcajete, Caldo de rez, Sopes de asada & Gorditas de asada. The food was delicious so tasty and we have no complaints. If you are in the mood of some hand made tortillas this is the spot. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. It is a little small restaurant that wakes you feel right at home. I grew up in Pacoima and we use to go to Lenchitas back when it was a hole in the wall next to La Placita Market back in the early 80s. I remember my dad ordering menudo and we got the tacos. I now live in phoenix but when I go to LA I go there and order 20 tacos to go because there is nothing here that compares. Loved them read more

The tortillas and beans were excellent. Sopes were good, but the asada was overcooked and hard. The salsas were terrible. The red one made my food taste worse so I stopped adding it. There was a less spicy one that was almost pure water. Cash only and be prepared to have random people coming in the restaurant to sell you random things. Today we had some people selling razor blades, fruit, fake flowers, and gelatin desserts. Be prepared to wait 15 min in line to pay your bill. read more

Food Flavor was like 6 out of 10, Service is taking too long, my coffee was cold, the female server was all disoriented and I saw people leaving the restaurant cause what they ordered to eat never arrived. Well locations closes and it closes why because am sure they have roaches and rats doing the hula hula in the chile rojo or taking dives in the caldo de res however the food is good so if you have a need for hand made tortillas and good food come here just member there grade is like a D last time i checked lol read more

Very fresh (especially the handmade tortillas), very reasonable prices - and free refills on the agua frescas, (just go to the counter and ask!) Two problems though, ONE they never give the right amount of tortillas for your order especially if you order in groups always missing atleast 1/2dozen ... Try the Costillas Rojas, please; you will not be disappointed; they make the best Costillas, omg, as close as they're going to get to my mom's Costillas (short ribs). The quesadillas with steak, omg, so good. I get them every time I can and am in town! Their soups are the bomb, and they're tamales, sopes, EVERYTHING. Grab some agua fresca, and they're Mexican dulce de leche candies too! The only thing is the wait here. Be ready for a line almost any time of the day unless you're dining in. The service is fast and friendly. That's just the price you have to pay for quality. I call in for takeout whenever possible to avoid a long wait. I've seen folks from all walks of life here, from suits having business lunches to neighborhood folks bringing their families after church on Sundays, and then there was us, the broke college kids. These days I still go here when I need my Lenchita's fix. I pray this place never closes, at least not in my lifetime. Cash only ! Lenchita's is always busy, no matter the time of day, but especially at lunch time. Our family comes here for their masa (dough). The staff is so kind and they are always in matching uniforms with the cutest hair. I can see they take pride in working there. Back to the dough. They sell dough for tortillas and for tamales. Make sure you specify which one you're buying. It's very affordable, and delicious. The only downside was their bathroom could use some cleaning. read more

I originally ordered the carne asada but was later informed that they had ran out. So i changed my order to chile rellano. I thought the food was good overall. The handmade tortillas are probably the high light of this place. They come piping hot served to your table. All the other dishes were good from what i heard. I started coming here many moons ago, as it was the favorite family Mexican place of my best friends growing up. And over the years, if I'm in the area when I visit Southern California, I always try to stop there. This place hasn't changed much but in a good way. I originally fell for their tamales, which were as close to homemade as I've ever had. I love the green chile and cheese. They make their own tortillas and that makes all of their food even better. In addition to the tamales, some of my favs are the gorditas. Because they make their own tortillas and you can choose the meat you like they are always good. I like the carne asada or carnitas. One of the pork choices is I believe from the rib end area and has cartilage in most pieces. Great flavor, but kind of a pain to eat, so if that's something you don't like skip it for a boneless option. Also, they have great horchata and champurrado. Just a heads up - This is a homespun, casual place that is authentic. I've only come here with Spanish speakers. I wouldn't say I'm fluent, but I can get by - I assume someone on staff speaks English, I've just never heard it. So, if you don't speak Spanish, prepare to point at the menu. Also, they only accept cash. And since you will want to order everything and then tamales or tortillas to take home - just be prepared. read more
