I love coming here for authentic Mexican food! I usually come on the weekends when they serve menudo and pozole. The pozole is so savory and delicious. They load it up with meat and hominy. They give you all the condiments on the side so you can prepare it how you want and they give you tostadas on the side. The burrito mojado with green salsa is also delicious! It's super huge and loaded with meat. They are definitely not stingy. The salsa isn't too spicy if you're looking for more spice you can go with the red salsa. They are always super fast here and it does get busy on the weekends. The inside of the restaurant is pretty big so there is plenty of space and tables to sit at. read more

Tacos El Gordo is always a great stop. The place has a cool vibe with giant Mexican Lotería cards on the walls. Looks way different from when I first came as a little kid. The staff is incredibly friendly. What really stood out about the staff was seeing them offer to walk a handicapped couple out while carrying their to-go food. Small gesture, but it says a lot. The food is delicious, portions are generous for the price. What keeps me coming back every time is the guacamole sauce. Very addictive! read more

We came here today to pick up food to go on Mother's Day 5/10/26 and the food was horrible we ordered chicken tacos the chicken was old and beyond stale, my husbands wet burrito had old stale carne asada and the saddest red sauce over it. And the huarache is suppose to be a fried oval tortilla and it was soft and soggy with lengua full of nerve and fatty pieces of meat. Overall it was $35 dollars spent and it went straight in the trash. Do better especially on a holiday Sunday. read more

First time going here. Very clean and fast. Came for their 2 for 1 nachos on Mondays I believe. Solid nachos. Lots of meat and cheese. You will need a fork. Salsa pairs well too. So far I've tried the asada (bomb) and pastor (also bomb). Even if you dont come on the special day they are still worth the price. read more

First time coming here and ooohhh boy what a bust, I really really wanted to like this place but it was just not good at all, I've seen this place on my feed on YouTube with San Fernando Valley Eats guy channel and we definitely have different taste buds when it comes to Mexican food. I had the borrego with consomé, taco de cabeza it was ok, and my uncle had the Chilaquiles rojos with beans and 2 eggs, by the way they charge and outstanding price of $2.00 for each egg which is mind blowing as I've been to many other Mexican restaurants that charge $15 dollars flat with a steak, first off the beans on my uncles plate were absolutely flavorless, I gave them taste and they weren't good at all, my borrego was not good, being from Jalisco and having it often this borrego is no where close to being good, there's plenty of other places in Los Angeles that have way better borrego, these food review guys should be honest when trying food and not just be one sided. The chilaquiles were actually not bad, but they were room temp (far from hot) and the totopos/chips were not cooked with the red sauce. I think proper chilaquiles are cooked with the sauce, not just chips with the red sauce on top. Found this through Instagram, glad to say it is a good find. Great food, the service is also great. No problem communicating with a Deaf person on the phone. I like that the menu is full of pictures. What I see is exactly what I ordered. No issues with my order, happy with the food and people working there. There is a place nearby in Mission Hills that I attend regularly two times weekly so I will surely return next time with a group. Parking lot available on the site, shouldn't be much of an issue finding a spot. read more

The agua de pepino was bomb, especially on a hot day. The menudo and the salsa were very watery and had no flavor. The restaurant itself is dirty, the floors are not swept and the tables don't get cleaned. When I was served the menudo I didn't even get any utensils, I had to get up and get them myself. read more

The restaurant had a lively atmosphere, with a good crowd enjoying both dine-in and takeout services. The salsa bar was impressively maintained, featuring neatly stacked condiments. I was excited to try this place but I was caught off guard by their burrito. It was nothing but meat and rice inside. I had to add my own onion and cilantro from the salsa bar. This made for an awkward burrito eating experience. Imagine having to add some onion and cilantro on top of your burrito before every bite or risk opening up burrito and re-rolling it yourself. The pastor was mid, I'm not sure why all the good reviews on it. I also ordered a carnitas taco which was excellenté. The handmade tortilla was very good. I wish ordered a carnitas burrito instead. Carnitas were ok, lacked a bit of flavor. Carne asada was a tad bit fatty for my liking but for $1 can't complain. Pastor was by far the favorite of the meats. Well seasoned. We had the Al pastor, asada, pollo, and lengua tacos, and each and every one of them was delicious. We got all of ours in the homemade tortillas, which were fresh, flavorful, and had the perfect texture - soft and pliable, with a little bit of chew, and strong enough to not get soggy in lime juice and salsa. I especially appreciated the tostadita with beans that was served alongside the tacos. Even the beans had a ton of flavor. I asked the woman at the counter what her favorite dish was, and she suggested the enchiladas in mole, which were some of the best enchiladas I've had in a long time. The salsas here were also solid. A verde and a spicy red, both distinct, flavorful, and complimentary to the meal. This spot immediately went onto the official list of great tacos in LA. read more

Handmade tortillas made a huge difference in the experience i had at Tacos El Gordo. We ordered Asada and al pastor tacos as well as a burrito. The salsa bar is on point, love that they are not stingy with salsa, onions, cilantro, limes, and all the other accouterments that you need to have that perfect bite of taco. Salsa was fresh and plentiful at the clean salsa bar, these little details are why I'll be back again.
