I ask my local friend to take me for an authentic Mexican breakfast experience. She immediately says Menudo. Now I've had the dish before when I lived in Texas and wasn't a fan. But, I keep telling myself I need to try things multiple times to form an opinion. We arrived at Lenchita's on a Saturday morning. She mentioned how the place can get busy and they sometimes run out of tortillas. I took the time to read about the place's family heritage and was really impressed with the history. We started with some quesadillas and I got my first taste of the handmade tortillas. They were fantastic. Followed up with menudo which was equally good. Have been going to Lenchita's for approximately 30 years. Big disappointment with service. Called to place a to go order and was asked to hold. After 15 minutes of listening to the woman take walk up orders and tell a man he would have to place a to go since his party did not have their proof of vaccine and they had closed a section due to only one server I hung up and called back twice only to have the person pick up and out tte phone down without a word. This establishment has been in business for decades. I love their tortillas de maiz. Went there to have dinner with my Son. Sat at a table that was not yet cleaned/bussed however the waitress came over and wiped the table down almost immediately. I asked her if they had caldo de res and she looked like a deer in headlights as if I were speaking to her in different language. She then said "I need to go check." She proceeded to take another groups order and that was the last time she checked on our table. 15 minutes later and we were not yet even asked what we would like to drink. Lenchita's serves the typical platters you'd find in a Mexican household, it is traditional and tastes as if your you were eating at home, only better. It is the handmade tortillas that separates this eatery from most, even the average home since most of us buy pre-made at the market. I've been eating here for more than a decade and little has changed, including the food and its taste. They remain true to "why fix it if it ain't broken" and understandably so...it's patrons remain as loyal as the food itself. They take cash only, and you'd have to go across the street to use an ATM. Although this would be a downside, it's not enough to take away a star, the food and service and make up for it and more. I particularly enjoy the open kitchen concept in which you will see a team of cooks preparing the day's meals, but most importantly, the making of fresh tortillas is quite a sight. read more

I actually rate it 5 star for the food but gave it a 3 because it is always a long wait to get tended to and then another long wait for the food. Today it took 15 minutes before someone noticed us and then its taking another 25 minutes to get the food served. If it is lunch or dinner time I would just have more than 3 waitresses taking orders to accomodate the big flow of people. I wish they expanded the place because it gets so crowded. I went to Lenchita's for lunch last week and will definitely give it another try. I think I was the only Gringo in the place and that is fine with me , at least I know the food is not Americanized. I got the Chile Rellenos with rice and beans, everything really tasty and cheap! It's certainly not a "destination restaurant ", very plain decor, just a place to stop by and get a nice lunch. From what I could see it is kept clean plus it was very friendly. Obviously not a 5 star or even 3 star restaurant in the traditional sense but this is Yelp where some chain taco places get 5 stars. read more

We came here to eat because a family member recommended it but for our surprise it was a terrible experience. The waiter was rude and when she went to get our order she asked us what we wanted and then left to another table, she came back and asked us again and when my sister was about to tell her the order she left again to another table. This place is right in the center of Pacoima. What makes this place above the rest is their handmade tortillas. Made fresh to order. Everything here is made from scratch from their Salsas to the delicious soups. Perfect for rainy cold days. The tacos are not your standard taco truck size, they are big...almost as big as flour tortillas. If your craving your grandmas homemade tortillas you won't go wrong here! They are amazing! As I write this review I'm fighting with my husband and sister about how many stars I should give Lenchitas. They say one but I think two is fair. My mom always buys the sopes, only the sopes without any other items, and they are great. We stopped going there for some time because they got a "C" for their establishment grade. My grandpa said it was "C por Cochinos", LOL! The service is pretty bad, terrible actually. There's this weird lady with pantyhose on her arms, what the heck it that all about? The food is good but it has the potential to be even better if they keep it fresh. Once my husband ordered birria and he received a semi cold plate full of grease, practically lard since it was cold. The tortillas are amazing but then again all fresh tortillas taste great. It's a long time Pacoima establishment though so many people like to go there from this area. I think they can improve and bring in more business but if the owners are happy with the way things are then that's as good as it will get for Lenchitas. read more
